Wow, these samsung emoji are terrible. How to change to google? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm guessing without root you have to basically download an entire font set, correct? Anyone successful in changing the emoji back to google's?

I'm interested to know this too! I don't quite like Samsung's emoji.

I usually change it with root. But yeah, they're hella ugly. It sounds silly but it's the first thing I do after rooting lol.

You need root access to change the emojis.Get google/iOS notocoloremoji.ttf and replace it with samsung one in /system/fonts.
If you want those ttf files let me know i'll upload them.

I guess we will sit tight and hold out for root

Have you tried installing the emoji fonts from Play Store? No root is required. Not sure if it works on the Note 5.

Yeah, but they look pretty terrible vs the factory font

So you have to replace your keyboard in order to use different emojis? There is no way to add emojis to the current keyboard?

[Q] [Request] Live Wallpaper & Keyboard

I realize that Nexus S isn't available for retail sale yet, but when the code becomes available can someone provide the LWP apk seen in all the images of the Nexus S? Also, how about the Gingerbread keyboard apk? Thanks to whomever attempts and/or gets this done.
gingerbread keyboard is already out, searching is your friend.
as far as the LWP, those will take a few weeks after the phone comes out.

It's only possible when people have modded it in a way so that it doesn't need system access because originally it did need root. This means that it is theoretically possible to have the keyboard without root but it would mean that somebody would have to modify it so that it's a standalone app which is unlikely and even if done will take a while.

I know nothing about the inner workings of the Droid X keyboard. I'm assuming they modified it into it's own standalone apk apart from LatinIME if you can install it without root.
the3dman made a nice copy of the wallpaper here .
-Install ninjamorph and go to /system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk .
-Replace pyramid_background.png in /drawable-hdpi with the new wallpaper.
-Finish Project
-Select Nexus LWP from Wallpaper Menu
-Profit
Or if you got 99 cents. You can buy NexusKang from the market, and set a custom wallpaper.
Should hold you over until the official one is out.

Farsi True Type font
I have a True Type font with Farsi fonts on my PC (Win7). As you know, Unicode fonts have international characters (like Farsi), however Android 2.1 is not supporting them.
I don’t want to change the default Android fonts. Can you procedure be used to add my Farsi True Type font to Android (or even a Unicode font from Windows)?
Thanks

No, is the simple answer. Also, I would suggest doing it on an older/not used computer first. Less chance of screwing something up, or losing important data. Also, ffs, learn bash commands. They'll save your ass at some point.
Oh, and just an fyi: I built my own computer when I was 15. It's not hard to get your own.

Also, most of these will work except for the nav bar height. It will take some time as they're spread out all through the thread. These are for the S8+ and I'm using several on my Note 8, as I said all but the nav bar height should work.

Substratum can't do that yet, I have a couple of layers that can - one with blue and the other with red.
Are there any substratum themes that are free for our note 8?

So glad someone brought this up, as the only one I could find was Swift Dark. I chose the tab for Samsung devices and Swift Dark was my only option to purchase. Waste of money as it currently stands since my current theme dark high contrast from the would you believe it Samsung theme store works just as good if not better. Substratum is hyped up in imho or immature for the N8.
My take, rubbish.
Edit: shouldn't have said "rubbish" , but inadequate at this time.

I'm just using the samsung themes at this point; there are a few that are pretty nice, and until there is a BL unlock/full root for this phone, I wont bother with Substratum at this point..had it installed with a couple of the themes that supposedly work on this phone, but it borked gmail, play store and a couple of others, so off it went..
Its too bad, since I have bought around 20 or more subs themes in the past, so hopefully it will be fixed down the road.
This phone just came out, so its a matter of patience for now..

When you mention working with Samsung, one still has to avoid selecting certain options during installation of the overlays right ? Meaning I cannot merely select all after choosing S8 in the pull down menu without running the risk of bootloops?
In summary, which options should one not check for installation for those you linked on your post? Or are the Samsung specific ones all bootloop free.? Cheers

I've used all, just select S8, except for the nav bar. I use another for that. Haven't had any bootloops and have been using them from day one. If you do have issues you just need to boot into safe mode and uninstall the overlay and you're back in business. The ones specifically for Samsung should be okay but the others probably not. Here's a new onr, I haven't tried it yet as I have mine setup just the way I like it.

Change Nav Bar height?

Back with in S8+ days there were 3 apks floating around that allowed you to change the height of the navigation bar in order to increase screen real estate. I quite liked it as did a lot of other people I assume because you can find links to plenty of websites talking about it. However I can't find any talk about it for this phone.
Does anyone know of anything like this for the Note 8?
Still on the s8+ but considering getting a note 8 soon. Just out of curiosity, have you tried installing the same apk?
You can change the Minimum DPI setting in DEV settings to make it look higher res. I have mine set to 475 and it has a lot more space. You can then change the font size to be one mark below normal and it really helps.

Yep I had changed that. on both the S8+ and Note 8. That's good, but the nav bar still bugs me on this phone. Everytime I look at it, I notice it's too big lol
Hmm. I wonder if the guy who created the old apk uses an S8 and hasn't bothered to make one for the note 8. I'd imagine it is quite simple. Wonder if you could make the request?
Edit: I made a request to tigerhoods, who I believe authored the apk for the s8.
Here is the response I got:
it works when packed in a sammy theme if that makes sense..
u have to decompile a Samsung theme then add the nav values to the common.apk then recompile theme for it to take effect now

Looking further into how to do this, but I haven't yet been able to get my hands on the apk for the theme I've been using. But, from what I gather, you can't just install an apk to change the Navbar height with the note 8. You have to specifically edit the apk for whatever theme you're using.
