Wireless Charging Issues - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone had any issues with wireless charging on the Note 5? I picked up 2 Samsung wireless chargers with the Note and on both chargers the note seems to stop charging after about 15 minutes and never resumes charging unless i pick the phone up and put it back down.

I'm also having this problem. I have a TYLT Vu at work and a CHOE Stadium on my nightstand at home. It charged through the night once on the CHOE Stadium (but took unusually long).
Out of curiosity, what variant are you using?

I'm also on the tmobile variant. Would be interesting to see if other users with the TMo variant are also having wifi charging issues.
Edit: I ordered a replacement Tylt Vu (it was within the 30 days) and this one appears to be charging the device normally. I'll keep fiddling with it and report back with an update.

I have the Verizon version, but my wireless charging works just fine. Have fully charged it 5 times, and partially charged it a few times too.

When i put mine on the wireless charger it wakes the screen every minute or so and pauses charging. then resumes a second later... its retarded

I may take it back to t-mobile or change back to the wired charger at night. The last two mornings I have woke up to a dead phone after being on the wireless charger all night. Just wondering if the problem was just with my device or a wide spread problem.

Do you guys have cases on? If so, does it do it with the case off?

No case on my phone. Looks like it's a problem with my wireless chargers as my replacement Tylt Vu charges the phone normally.
The pad I use at home it too small and I'm most likely not placing the device on it properly.

Damn and I thought I was the only one having this issue. Lol but I noticed it the first day I got my note 5. I bought the samsung wireless charger as well from my local T-Mobile store. Not sure why its doing that, but my gf's Galaxy S6 is charging fine on that same charger. It just doesn't like the note 5 for some reason. I've had it stop charging after about 10 to 15 mins and I heard a noise that sounded like my phone got disconnected from the charger, then I get a blue light blinking on the dock. I also have seen it stop charging then start charging again without touching my phone lol, Its very weird.
I didn't have a case on my phone, I returned the charging dock and I will just find a different one later.

No case here.
Maybe there is an issue with the new wireless fast charge?
Thought it may be drawing to much current from the charging pads causing them to shut off. Does any one have this issue with one of the newer Samsung fast charge pads.
Seems like the current slowly ramps up, have seen it as high as 800maA. I don't have much experience with the wireless chargers and a little unsure what their normal outputs is.

I had this issue, I found it worked better by either having never sleep or daydream turned on when charging. I'm thinking it might be related to screen time out? Let me know if this helps

Apparently the wireless charger with the Best Buy deal was excess Galaxy S6 stock and they don't work too well with the Note 5. The new fast charge one from Samsung is supposed to be the one intended for the Note 5.

My AT&T note does the same thing. I have two Nokia chargers that work great with my GS5. Just got it (the note) today and am still setting it up.

Has anyone tried using the cable and ac adaptor that came with the Note 5 on the wireless charger and see if that make a difference?

I have the Choetech Stadium charger and a Yootech charger (the triangular one). The Choetech works great, but the Yootech constantly disconnects. My phone is in an Otterbox Commuter, but taking it off made no difference. I'm using the Verizon variant.
Edit: I use both wireless chargers with the adapter that came with the phone.

I have the 3 loop nokia chargers and find they work better sideways.
This makes you center your phone on it but it doesn't sit there cycling, which is a very bad thing. My GF ruined a g III battery by doing that overnight for 2 weeks.
Its a bummer the galaxy 5 doesn't seem to work as good as the oem abb on backs for the note 3 I had.

I tried using the Note 5 charger last night and had the same issue.

I created a thread on the AT&T Q&A section with the following and then i stumbled across this thread.
"Ok, so im using the Spigen Neo Hybrid case, and when i use wireless charging, it may work 30 seconds, or 10 minutes, but it always stops. What happens is i place it on the charger and it indicates its charging. Then, within a short time period, the light on the charger starts flashing to indicate charging isnt working properly, and the screen comes on and says wireless charging paused.
I have 3 different Samsung chargers, a Nokia charger and several Powerbot chargers. One of the Samsung chargers is the newest (not fast) chargers. I take the case off and it seems to be fine. Anyone familiar with this case knows its not thick by any means. Also, i have 2 GS6s in the house both using Neo Hybrids and they charge just fine. Ive adjusted positioning dozens of times but i know from experience that most devices dont require an EXACT placement.
I went to Best Buy, where i purchased it, and this is where it gets odd. They placed it on their display charger in the Samsung section and it charged for 10 minutes no problem before they told me they couldnt duplicate the issue so they wont replace it. I brought it home and the damn thing charged to full charge no issue. The next day when i placed it back on the charging pad, it starts cutting out again.
All my chargers have been tried over USB, and yes, with multiple wall plugs. My first thought was not enough power over USB but clearly thats not the case. "
All that said, i last night after posting, i tried my sons Choetech charger, its the stand style thats listed in the accessories thread, and it charged perfectly the whole night. It seems to me this might be an issue with the reciever in the actual phone. My sons S6E charges just fine on the samsung charger and he has a spigen case on his phone so this leads me to believe its not a fault of the charger.

I'm starting to think it may be coil alignment. Perhaps if we knew exactly where on the back of the Note 5 the Qi coils were, we could align them properly on the charging device.

Wireless Charging Issues

Anyone able to reliably charge wirelessly? I have a few Qi pads and without carefully and meticulously placing it in just the right spot it won't charge. And even then it often toggles in and out of charging.
Any suggestions? Or a pad that will work reliably?
Thanks

I have charged on Tylt Vu every night since I got it with no issues.
I put it on my TYLT every night now and its at 100% when I wake up. It does goes to 99% faster than when I charge it with my regular charger but I think that's just me.
couple of the threads on this in the accessories section.
OP should post up the pads he or she uses so others can compare.
i too have no issues charging wirelessly with two different model chargers.

You’re right. I have two different pads I’ve tried:
*
1.*******CHOETECH Qi Wireless Charger Pad – works almost never. Even with meticulous placement.
2.*******PowerBot® PB1020 Qi Enabled Wireless Charger Pad – works reliably with very careful placement.
*
I’m intrigued to try the TYLY Vu, just ordered a used one. Hoping this provides more reliable everyday use. I’d prefer to be able to just put the hone down before bed and be assured it will work every time.

The tylt seems to be the best deal in terms of consistent docks. I have returned several different chargers and am using the tylt and choe stadium chargers..
My charger works fine, but stops supplying power once the device reaches 100%. I'll wake up with about 98% because of several hours of standby drain.

I have the powerBot and can confirm the same. Works reliably, but takes a bit of moving around to get it started. Once I get the solid blue light on it then I've never had an issue with the charge being incomplete.
Was also looking at tylt vu, might put it on my xmas list..
The Nokia DT-900 wireless charging plate I got from AT&T a few months ago for $5/ea works just fine.
i have the CHOE Stadium Qi Wireless Charger and it's working without issue. it even charges with my (thin) case on the phone.

it works fine, but it turns the damn thing on 100% of the time. i don't want that. charges Nexus 5 just fine while it's off. for now i'm just using the turbo charger until i can figure out what the hell to do
With my nexus 6, I have had good luck with the itan ( a tylt vu knock off) http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00LE6X5VU/ and tylt vu charger, also the 2012 original google wireless charger, but my other qi chargers do not work well, including two airdocks and the 2013 nexus wireless charger. It is more an issue of correct placement, than the qi technology per se. Qi works on the nexus 6, butit is harder to place the n6 correctly due to the two axis curved back plate, which has no flat part at all, so the small single coil chargers do not work as well as the larger triple coil chargers, like the itan or tylt vu or chose stadium.
Following back here, I have been using the Tylt Vu without flaw for a month of so here. It's very good at working with the 6 when I just put it down on it, no fiddling necessary ever.
Definitely recommend.

I have the CHOE triple coil QI and I have had no issues charging my Nexus 6. It even charges through my INCIPIO rubber case.
Using a Nokia as we speak, never had a problem. That being said you have to realize that the charging coil is off center in this phone, approzimately 1/3 of the way up from the bottom, I assume to facilitate the use of chargers designed for smaller phones. This can cause a charging problem for those that don't position the phone correctly over the centered charging spot on the charger. Remember that and all chargers should work on the N6 as well as they work on any other Qi phone.
Using a vzw 3 coil. only thing I've noticed is that sometimes it doesn't start charging. I usually unplug the pin connector, wait a few seconds, them plug it back in and its always been full in the morning.
Qi Powerbot
I have a Nexus 6 and using the Powerbot PB1020. It works very well, connects easily, charges fast, not much heat but when it finishes it cuts the powerbot off and will not charge again until I unplug and re-plug the powerbot. This is not a huge deal but I would like to see myself never touching the plug again. Case in point, my elderly parents are very interested in Qi charging as they have a hard time seeing the plug on the phone and would benefit greatly from total Qi charging. However, if they have to unplug and replug the powerbot every night to reset it, then it seems a waste of money. Any others having this issue? Is it only on the Powerbot? DO all of the chargers do this? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks,
Rob

[Q] Troubleshooting Wireless Charging w/ Droid Turbo

About a week ago I used a match to singe the nylon that was fraying as it was bad and I was past the 2 week return policy from Verizon. Ever since then my wireless charging has not functioned properly. I had two different chargers. The first one was a Keedox stand and the second was the PowerBot
So I was using the keedox charger but after awhile it would just randomly disconnect and the phone would say detected wireless charger starting charge. I tried the Powerbot charger and it went all the way through no issues with the screen turning back on constantly. Well now the Powerbot is doing the same thing the first one did. I left it on the mat last night but when I woke up it was only at 50% and had stopped charging. I use an app called battery widget and it showed me around 60% it just stopped and starting discharging. I already returned the Keedox one assuming it was defective but now this leads me to think its a problem with the phone. Could the receiver coil in my phone be bad and causing issues with the wireless chargers?

I've never been able to get my $15 Powebot (the small circular one) to work well with my Turbo

I have the same problem with the Powerbot. I have a feeling it might be the rubber around the edge not letting the phone get close enough to the coil. it works perfectly to charge my Nexus 7 and Moto 360 though, so it might just be the Droid.
For the record. the Aukey Wirless Charging Station is by far the best charger for all my devices. Droid turbo works great in portrait or landscape

But is it possible exposure to alot of heat could have harmed the wireless charger to the point where it no longer functions? That was my other concern. Im not sure how the receiving coil is in the phone.

My phone won't charge on my PowerBot, but I have 2 Nokia chargers that work excellently with the Turbo. The Powerbot charger works fine with my Moto 360.
I believe the Nokia charges have 3 coils in them, so it is really easy to get a decent placement of the phone on the charger.
I think the powerbot is a single coil charger, and placement is really critical. I think I've been able to get the Turbo to charge before, but only after playing around forever with placement. The distance from the charger to the phone shouldn't be so sensitive that the rubber on the charger would keep it from charging.
sensor size
just my opinion, but compared to the last phone i had, I feel like the turbo has a very small sweet spot to actually charge clean.
still love the phone, it's awesome. The huge battery has had me slowly not being always worried about finding a charger all day. My battery ptsd is going away!
just my 2 cents..
Has anyone had a good experience w/the powerbot? I already put two on my Christmas list
Is it just finicky, or doesn't work at all?
Though if the Moto 360 charges ok on it I can still use it for that I suppose.

Samsung Wireless Charger (not rapid) Problems

I decided to make a thread on this as I keep seeing people reporting problems with the Samsung branded wireless charger in use with their Note 5 or Galaxy 6+ Edge. I am trying to get an idea of how prevalent this is.
What happens is this, I put the phone on the charger and it lights up showing it is placed appropriately and it charges. It then charges for a time period, and will suddenly stop and the LED blinks blue. This can happen after 1 minute to an hour or so into the charge, to not at all. Often, unplugging the charger and plugging it back in seems to reset it and it works again. Very bizzare. I returned the first charger like this and got a second one, but it does the same thing.
I am wondering if Sammy did this on purpose to get us to buy the rapid wireless charger when it comes out....
Also, I know it is not my Note 5, as my other wireless charger works fine.
Please post your experience with this charger.

This is a built in protection mechanism. They blink blue to say they are nearing the end of a charge cycle. Once complete, green. Then it wont charge again till the phone calls for it. This is only going to happen with that charger and these phones as they are programmed to work with one another like that.

But then why does it stop charging around different percentages? Like sometimes it is at say 50%, another time at 70%. This morning I woke up and it was at 74%, blinking blue, not charging, after sitting on it all night....

Mine does this as well. I thought it was the vibrations during notifications that was moving it off the "sweet spot" causing the charge to stop.
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
It is seeming more like a manufacturing defect in the charger. I had one that did the misalignment blinking blue and sent it back. Bought another at my office and its fine. Got the replacement one and its also fine. My first was a pre-order when the S6 edge came out. Maybe the coil or firmware were messed up. Just exchange it and see.
Yeah, I have exchanged it once already, and it still persisted. Reading reviews on Amazon it seems others were complaining of the same issue with the Note 5 or Galaxy Edge 6+, which is why I am wondering if it is something else going on.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
My S6 did not do this but my Note 5 is doing it, on the same charger so yeah there is something clashing with the new and old wireless charging tech maybe? I have my same puck I used from the S6 and it would be at 100% when I woke up, my note today was at 98%! Blasphemy!!
I was thinking we needed a thread for this too. I'm not sure what's going on. I googled it the first night and no one was really talking about it for the note5 and edge+, so I saw lots of the thread for the s6 and s6edge. I'm going to try my wife's phone on it, but I keep forgetting.
EDIT: Day Dream, and keep phone awake, neither of them will work on the wireless charger. My screen just turns off like normal Maybe this is a clue?
Adding distance between the phone and the pad, moving the pad into another room onto to floor.... Any other suggestions?
It definitely is not blinking because it's finished anything. it blinks when the phone is under 15%.
The first night, it never worked. i woke up and it was still blinking. The 2nd night, it blinked once, and i took it off, and put it on, and went to sleep. When i woke up, it was fully charged and cool. The third night, I woke up at 5 am and it was blinking (thankfully I put it on the fast charger and get it 100% before having to go to work). I don't know what I did the 2nd night!
PS: I'm testing right now, and will update soon on my wife's s6 status.

If my memory serves me correctly, they said in the unboxed event that it was backwards compatible. Plus, it's a Qi standard, it should HAVE to work to maintain that standard. Plus, That would be messed up! But it is possible....

This is what I am wondering. If Sammy did something here to make only the fast charger work. Of course I have no issues with my Tylt wireless charger though. But I would like the Samsung one to work right if possible. It is just so random. Sometimes it works great and other times not.

Just finished charging, no cutting out on the s6. Weird. But it's not the device, because others report it's not the phone because the phone works on other chargers.

Day dream works fine with this charger. You just have to remember to change it to work while charging and not docking. Been using timely with it with no issues. I have had the blinling blue light a few times and also the green light. I think its more of a sweet spot issue than anything.

I did notice that with the day dream last night. After i thought I'd been through all the settings, I'm finding there's still more to discover. If it was as sweet spot issue, why would it start charging? Sometimes it charges for 20 mins, then starts to blink.
Fix for wireless charging issues
So I saw another thread on this somewhere I can't remember. But a guy who claimed to be an engineer said that he figured out that there needs to be some sort of gap between the wireless charger and the Note 5, since I was having the same issue you were I tried it and it worked fine and fast. Apparently it's designed to work better for if the phone is in a case or something I just put some paper in between the wireless charger and the phone and it worked and charged all the way instead of only a couple percent and stopping. Hope that helps!
Just an update, mine worked fine last night fully charged and woke up with it charged.
Yeah, I don't get it. Night before last it fully charged up without a problem. Last night, it was charging fine when I went to bed, when I woke up, it was flashing blue and not nearly fully charged. I mean come on. If I am going to use this, I need it to be reliable. Not sometimes charge and sometimes not. And I do have a thin case on my phone too, so there is a little space there....

I got this one from Amazon yesterday and it worked flawlessly! Woke up and the red charging led on my phone was still lit, as well as the led on the charger saying it was connected. Phone was cool, and it was at 100%. I LOVE the fact that it's tilted/angled as well.

I just got my phone on Tuesday and had the wireless charging issues both Tuesday night and last night. I have tested it some more this morning and it still goes to blinking after being on the charger for a while. I am going to try an exchange today and see if anything changes, but my hopes have diminished after seeing many people experiencing the same issue .

Wireless charger bundles with Note 5 same as S6?

Question for all. Whats the model number of you charging pad? I got a Note 5 and a bundled wireless charger and i just realized that they gave me the same charger that they gave me when i got my S6 edge.
Model: EP-PG920I
The Note 5/S6edge + charger is still not officially available from Samsung Store, so is it possible we all got S6 charger, that's isn't fast wireless charging? Takes me 2.5 hours for a full charge when i thought it shouldn't take more than 90 minutes.
Yes, it's been stated many times. The charger best buy or anyone else gives you is not a fast wireless charger and often doesn't work correctly with the note 5.

"doesn't work correctly" ? I used the old wireless charger at an AT&T store and it worked just fine... albeit much slower than the Fast Charge pads I tested in Korea last month.
They intermittently work.

When I talked to Samsung they told me the fast chargers, the round white ones, were specifically made for the note 5 and the S 6 + edge. They told me the round black one, the same one Best Buy gave me when I bought my phone, was incompatible with the note 5.
Here's a link to the thread. Hopefully it helps answer some questions

I don't have any issues with my S6 wireless charger, except I was expecting getting the Note 5 charger. Also, how could it be incompatible?? It's a standard. That's like saying a microUSB cable is incompatible with Note 5. Doesn't make sense. I don't have any connection problem, it never gives the blinking blue light as some have reported, I actually find it works better with Note 5 than S6 edge. My edge sometimes stopped charging, or just started making the sound like if i just plugged it to power source, until I moved it a little, it could charge OK for 30 minutes than just start freaking out until i moved it.
I thought the same thing...how could the new style charger be incompatible? But that's what the dummy at samsung told me when I called. He seemed very unhelpful and like he didn't care. I'm pretty sure the only requirement to be tech support is the ability to use Google search lol
The older square one best buy exchanged for me works flawlessly. I can't complain tho, it was free with purchase. In the future, I definitely won't be buying any charger that samsung makes. I'll wait for aftermarket fast chargers. At least their tech support staff will care if there's any issues unlike samsung.
Yeah I'm not seeing how there could be an incompatibility. The device is QI certified, and the Samsung charging pads are QI certified. Different specs don't matter, the charging rate will be as fast as both devices can handle. In this case, the older pads only do the original rate, so the phone will only receive 5W instead of 15W that it would receive from the newer "Fast Charge" pads.
If something isn't working, I would bet that it's a problem with the pad hardware, or with the phone hardware.
Am I missing something?

I had nothing but issues with the free wireless charger and exchanged it multiple times with no success. After doing some research, it seems some carriers may be having more issues than others. I am on Verizon and have read that the problem may be a software change made to the phone. I do have a Tylt charger that works just fine. There appears to be something causing issues with the communication between the phone and the specific Samsung charger. I had also read that the interruption in charging may be related to receiving notifications. I no longer have a Samsung charger to do any further testing. I would agree that this should not be an issue since it is a standard, but too may people are experiencing issues for it not to be a real problem.
hey guys, please go vote here and lets narrow down where that problem comes from

Thanks for this...voted.
Voted- I have the Sprint Note 5 and it has the problem with the Samsung disc charger from best buy.
I have had problems with my s6 edge+ and the note 5 with the regular samsung puck i got from best buy.
Regular galaxy s6 charges flawlessly on it. If u dont have problems u got lucky.
Maybe it has something to do with the new reciever for fast charging. Pisses me off i get a free charger and cant use it on my new phone that it came with.
Someone mentioned software related issue but i have tested the s6 edge+ powered off without any software running and still had problems.
I use sprint service and have a n920p device. I just used the poll. Maybe that will start pointing us in the right direction.

I was told by the sammy rep at bb that it doesn't have enough power to charge the note 5. I was told by the advanced tech guy on the phone with samsung that my bb got a bad batch.
It's not a bad batch, and not enough power is no excuse. It doesn't work right when the phone is off. Plus is starts charging fine, it shouldn't suddenly have less power after 5-20 mins. Plus, the key is what someone else said: it's a standard. If it says Qi compatible, it's required to work. Samsung is having problems with revenue, and they desperately need sales. I wonder if they are just trying to cover this up until their marketing campaign is done and they have another flagship to push. This is very un-apple like
The Note 5 wireless charge model is EP-PN920BBEG. On the Note 5 wireless charge, it will have the phrase: Fast charge. If you use S6 Edge wireless charge for your note 5, it still charges normally but not fast. You must use the right type of charger to have fast charge . But there are many store still sale the S6 Edge wireless charge for Note 5 users because of profit or another reason. You should ask them carefully. You can google the model to see the Note 5 wireless Charge look like. Sorry for my bad English
On a side note - the USA Samsung website finally lets you order the fast charge pads. $74.95 after tax.... this is what I get for being too impatient to wait for the Korean model my gf bought for me to arrive.
I got a wireless pad bundled with the note 5 at purchase. So far there's no problem with it. Looking at the model number, I think it's intended for the note 5.

Galaxy watch 3 charging wireless issue

I have tried to charge my Galaxy Watch 3 on Wireless Charger after 7% charging, it became hot and started to show msgs even there was a cool environment. What should be the solution?
WHat type of wireless charger are you using? The one that came with the watch, or some other?

Did you check the ratings. I have had this happen when the charger was not rated/intended for my galaxy watches. Just a thought...
Yeah, I found that the Galaxy Watch 3 is quite sensitive with chargers. It won't work with my old Gear S3 charger either. After a few seconds, it'll start blinking red and stops charging.
I tested it at home first of course, but apparently not long enough. I went out of town and left the charger at home thinking that I just use the S3 charger I've got at the other place. I ended up having to charge it by reverse charging with my S20U. Which is a PITA because for that to happen I have to remove the wristband. The SS wristband that came with my Titanium holds its shape and the watch cannot be layed flat on the phone with it on.
