QuickCharge 2.0 tests - G4 Accessories

I bought a few QC2.0 chargers for my AT&T G4:
2-pack Samsung Adaptive Fast Charge AC chargers: .walmart.com/ip/45734981
Tronsmart Dual Car charger: .ebay.com/itm/191645992162
Aliexpress knock-off single QC2.0 car charger: .aliexpress.com/item/Qualcomm-Quick-Charge-2-0-Stand-USB-QC2-0-Car-Charger-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S6-HTC/32364542508.html
..... and compared with the performance of the STOCK LG G4 1.8 Amp (non-QC2.0) charger.

I charged my G4 with power OFF, and used Battery Monitor Widget
( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw )
to measure before and after % remaining,
I "generally" began the charge cycle when the %remaining was low (3-16%, 11% average)
and charged for about an hour (52 minute average)
For each I repeated the test 2-3 times.
Here are the results:
Stock Charger: 1.033 avg, 1.04 max % per minute
Samsung: 1.249 avg, 1.300 max % per minute
Tronsmart: 1.248 avg, 1.290 max % per minute
AliExpress: 1.221 avg, 1.270 max % per minute
So.... even though QC2.0 CLAIMS to charge up to 75% faster, my results were closer to 25% faster
All the QC2.0 chargers were rather consistent in their performance.
I found ambient temperature was an important factor.
The 1st test with the AliExpress was done in a closed car on a 110F day (without AC on)
I got 0.25%/min - but disqualified this result due to the temp extreme
(All other car charger tests were done with car running while driving with AC on)
I'd be interested in seeing if anyone else can test their chargers similarly and post the results here.

I thought QC chargers only quick charged QC compatible devices?

They do. The Qualcomm website claims that G4 is QC 2.0.

I would think testing closer to 70° would be wiser.

I get this spike using my 2.0 charger, it never stays that high for longer than 10seconds.

Que QC 2.0 on the G4 is a joke, it barely doesn't even exist.

I can't even use my quickcharge 2.0 charger. Anyone know why that may be the case? I'm on software version G, the charger works perfectly fine with my note 4 for quick charge but not on the G4... It's a GETWOW qualcomm quick charge 2.0 charger

Your battery is 90% full, is it any different if your battery is lower, like 10%?

My Keedox qc 2.0 is charging my g4 faster than my ex-m9! It can fully charge from 45 to 100% in 30 mins only, it was 50 mins with the m9!!!

No complaints from my Quick Charger

Ive got the uk plug aukey single port quick charge 2.0. Did a timed charge last night 14->48% 25minutes (1.36%/minute), 48->71% 16 minutes (1.44%/minute), 71->92% 19minutes (1.11%/minute) - total time from 14% to 92% one hour (1.3%/min) so about the same as OP test.

With custom kernel we should be able to reach much higher charging rates...on g2 with dorimanx kernel i never saw anything below 1600 and got up to 21xx

Agree. I use aukey QC 2.0 3 port. Using QC 2.0 port, or just the same charging time using stock charger. From 5%-100%, both need time about 105 minute. No different. I sold my aukey.
Aukey using 9v (8.9v exactly) and 5v for stock charging.

[Q] Quick Charge 2.0

So yesterday I bought a 2.0 charger off of amazon with the choe brand name. According to the ad it works with nearly every android phone, including the HTC one m8. For the past year I have been using a charger from my last phone which was a crappy flip phone and thought nothing of it, but I am wondering does this charger truly work?? According to app "Ampere" it is much slower. Also, I've read reports about phones heating up and that's what mine did last night, is that normal? How long should it take for me to full charge my HTC one m8?
It will heat up, that is normal. It'll use most of its 2.4A between 20 and 70% and then slow down. Your total charge time shouldn't take more than 1 hour, and make sure you're using the supplied cable.
Thanks for the response! So if it doesn't charge 1 to 100 in 1 hour than is something wrong? Also will a charger like this have any effect on how long my battery lasts? My last charger for whatever reason was for my last flip phone believe it or not, I never bought a new one.

no I wouldn't say that.
my 2.0 QC will get it done in about 1-2 hours compared to the 3-5 or so it took with stock charger.
0-100% will take more than an hour. I've timed mine a few times from 0-100%, not using the phone at all and in airplane mode waking it up every 5 minutes to check percentage, volts, and charge rate using Gsam batt monitor.
Comparing the two chargers (OEM HTC QC 2.0, and original HTC charger- which I believe is QC 1.0) the QC 2.0 is definitely faster. Even though there is nothing on the phone telling you it is using the higher wattage charging mode, it is. So, 0 to 100% using HTC's QC2, usually takes around 1:20 minutes if I remember right. As in the other post, it starts out rather slow to around 20%, then kicks in to high gear until around 80%, then slows back down all the way to 100% so as to not overcharge the battery and harm it. It really is amazing the speed that it charges at. It does get rather warm, which is normal, but shouldn't hurt the phone.
Now, completely draining and recharging these batteries frequently is not good for them and will decrease the useful life sooner. Keeping it somewhere around 80 % is ideal but realistically not practical and the manufacturers know that. That's why they build in overcharge circuitry protection so leaving the charger on all the time "shouldn't" harm the battery. Draining it down to zero and doing a full recharge cycle on it frequently WILL decrease the lifespan. The batterie's useful life is basically determined by a finite number of charge cycles.
There's tons of info on charging and batteries out there if you are looking for more reading too.
Anyone heard of the brand Auzen? It's popping up alot on aliexpress and around asian market. Not too much reviews yet on that brand.
don't play with quick chargers .I bloated my m8 batt once trying it .it charge at 2.4a .our device max is 1.5a.
If you insist using it then don't full charge with it n monitor closely .
That's impressive, I use a QC2.0 car charger, I use a variety of wall chargers that run from 1.0A to 2.3A at 5V.
So far, my battery is still very happy.
Sounds like you got a cheap knock off charger or your battery/charging circuitry was damaged/faulty and/or your ROM/firmware weren't proper, for that kind of damage to occur.
I don't think Ampere works. I once did a test (last month) and had 6 different USB cables and I wanted to see which was the best, every time I used one I got a different reading, from 200 up to 1600. Even using my Anker Quick Charge 2.0 I only got 400 so it stated.
I have been using Aukey QuickCharge 2.0 and gives pretty decent charge times.

You know there is some colors on cable conectors ends you have to choose the right one..
- If the cable is not a quality one can result to slow charging.
Black ----- 1.0. most in stock phones
White------ 2.0. the right for fast charging...
The time on reaching 100% on battery,well Quickly charger 2.0 will reach 80% on your battery fast and it will change the next 20% slower...
There is some app in playstore can help can see the amperage live in mA..
Connect your charger to get the battery charging current or disconnect it and get the negative discharging current... and you can see your battery charging current mA is constantly changing because even on charging phone still using current (negative discharging current) and this is always changing.
On my case I see higher mA reading only under really low battery...
I have a problem with my m8 and aukey 2.0 quick charger....
After firmware update to 6.12.xxx.xxx mm , the app ampere tell me max 1600ma before update its tell 2000ma .. Its a bug or a feature of the new firmware base...??? I have cyanogenmod 13

M8 is 1.5a max .if you use 2.0a logically you're overcharging it. Just wait for it to get bloat n replace the whole bat. worth it ?
Hi, i just wanted to say something. After many bad chargers i bought, i found the Nillkin chargers (2Amps)and Nillkin cables (2.1Amp) the best and best quality. I am always testing with good Usb voltage tester and it can charge up to 1.5 amps max on M8 and on LG G3 1.8 Amps. As long as the charger is 5.0V, amps can variate and it doesnt hurt your battery, it just charges slower or faster. In my case its charging 1% per minute on both phones. It doesn't matter if the cable is black, white, green... cables must be thick, around 18AWG that support high ampers which mean faster charging. thin cables are sh!#. And for car i also found the Scosche dual charger great for every device with Nillkin 30cm cables and Kenu airframe holder.
You can use 2.4A chargers on M8 without problem as it will only receive 1.5amps.

That logic is incorrect. The phone will only draw as many amps as its rated for (1.5 amps) regardless of what the charger is rated to supply. Think of the charger amp rating as the "maximum it can supply" instead of "what it will always supply".

Ampere shows max charge rate for me at 2000ma. Where do you get the idea it will overcharge?

I recently bought a quick charge car charger for my older phone-- will the G4 be able to do quickcharge? I hope so... I mean, I only paid $10 for the charger, but I would like to still be able to use it. Thanks in advance!
the thing is the g4 doesnt actually have quick charing its just the battery it self hold more battery i should say at 100% idk if you noticed but it stays at 100% longer to 99% than 99% to 98% by like alot this is because how the battery itself is designed this was the same with the lg g3
The G4 doesn't have fast charging. You could try using your charger, though no idea how using a fast charger on a non-fast charging phone will work/affect it down to road.

The G4 does not have Qualcomm brand QuickCharge 2.0, but it does charge quickly at 1.8 amps, compared to the 2.0 amps in QuickCharge 2.0. Keep in mind, though, that the G4 has a 3000 mAh battery, which will take slightly longer to charge to 100% than a smaller battery at the same current.
An advantage with the G4 compared to the other flagships this year is that with a spare battery, you can bring it to a full charge in less than a minute.
it doesnt have quick charging but it might force a higher voltage per minutes than a normal charger. so in theory it might actually charge it faster.

Quick charge won't work on the G4, the charger will output 2amps @ 5v like any 2amp charger. If the charger sees the device is quick charge compatible it switches to 1.67 amps @ 9v (15 watts vs 10 watts)

I am also having this quick charge but the batter drains after 1 hour.
Haven't tried it yet though but will definitely check on this.

Is there a way to probe that my quick charger is really supplying 9v while charging? I have battery monitor but on widget it only shows mA.
QC 2.0 on this phone is a lie. According to LG that tweeted to me and this website it is QC 2.0 compatible. I have 2 compatible chargers and they charge at best 20% faster than stock charger. Qualcomm's website says that a 3000 MaH battery should charge from 0-60 in 30 minutes. With this phone of and doing nothing it takes nearly 60 minutes to do the same. Double the time!
Absolutely! I bought a Aukey and did the test from zero to full:
Stock charger: 122min
Aukey: 101min
Afaik quickcharge charges fast from zero to 60% and charge normal for the rest to avoid damage on the battery. I can't see any change around 60% in the graph.

Technically it's not a lie. The fine print on Qualcomm's website allows manufacturers to implement QC 2.0 in their own way. So it's in the phone but LG has implemented it in a way that it's crippled.
I think someone discussed this on You Tube during a review of the G4 and they stated that a update was coming to the G4 later on in the year for Quick Charging. Don't know why it didn't ship with it. This phone is not living up to the hype. I normally don't buy phones when they first drop but i just like everybody else I brought in to the promotion and I wish I would've held off. Just saying.

Droid Turbo Turbo Charge , Quick Charge 2.0 question

So few days ago got the phone , but always charged it through USB port. Now finally tried turbo charger and it definitely isn't "turbo". I know most of those Turbo claims what I saw were just selling strategy , but I'm pretty sure I'm not even getting 1% - 1 minute. Latest Marshmallow OTA.
So , on a relatively new battery , how fast does your phones charge ? You can write with phone turned off and on..
Also looking at the charger it says for output :
Standard output :5V =1.6A
Turbo output :9v=1.6A
Turbo2 output :12v = 1.2A
This deosn't make any sense to me, while raising volts may solve some power losses through cable , amps are what charges your phone faster or slower , and 1.6A , isn't really a big deal not to mention 1.2A. Reading somewhere that quick charge 2,0 supports up to 3amps draw..
I have One Plus one and it's original charger is 2.1A (quick charge 1.0 ) , with custom kernel bumped charging rate all the way up and good cable I'm seeing about 2Amps of charging in real life , or little more than 1% per minute . I was expecting motorola to charge faster or at least even , even though they are 3100 vs 3900mAh batteries.. Not to mention I can easily mod OnePlus One and get same SOT and battery overall as motorola's, while on motorola I'm stuck with stupid locked bootloader . Original idea was to sell OnePlus One because of Motorola, but I don't know now anymore..
The volts and amps listed on an electrical device are typically its max or rated output, NOT what it "always" delivers. That being said, most power supplies will deliver their rated voltage most of the time, but the current is determined by the charged device (through it's effective resistance)... so as long as you run below the rated current, you'd be fine.
Secondly, from what I'm reading, the OPO doesn't have quick-charge technology (ref: https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/co...lcomm_quickcharge_20/?st=ix64k1gy&sh=6d7492c9 ) so I'm not sure what you're talking about there. Again, the charger may say 2.1A, but that doesn't mean it's actually delivering that much all the time. I have a relatively old Kindle Fire with a 2.1A charger, but I know it doesn't charge very fast even with that device.
If you want to talk about Volts and Amps, you need to use actual volt/amp meters to see what you're getting.. The Turbo has a relatively massive battery. Mine takes...somewhere upwards of 3ish hours on turbo charging to replenish.

Thanks! Actually, OnePlus ONE DOES have quick charge 1.0 which is 5v up to 2.1A. Snapdragon 801 supports quick charge 2.0 but OPO didn't implement it with phone. There are billions of topic on this at OPO forum and a lot of people done tests including myself. The problem with OPO is it's very sensitive on cable so it works best with OEM cable and it somehow recognizes it. There is app called OPO charging current so I monitored with it and synapse . Kernel setup hardware to be able to recive very max 2100mA no mather which cable. Stock ONEplus charger. Some cheap cables gave me from 300 - 600 mA max with screen on . I found at home some cable that looked cheap but said charge only, tried and it charged around 1600mA with screen on and around 1800 screen off. Later got Anker 21 AWG and results were even better , aroun 1800-1900mA screen on and close to maximum 2000mA screen off. Phone was charging 1% in less than a minute. Thought turbo can charge at same rate. After all , it's "boosted" lol.
I know it doesn't do quick charge after around 75% , I tried at 30%. Given all that , 1600mA which is maximum I see on the Motorola's charger is not something special if we disregard Voltage..

Again this is very interesting. Already here we see 2 totally different results with one being almost as double fast.. Sparksys , you are on stock charger and stock cable?
Because if you charge from 0-100 in 1h 15min, thats around 3.2Amps charging current , while our buddy Einsteindks here gets around 1.3Amps and max amp I see on "rola's charger is 1.6Amps. I'm confused now.
Also can somebody post picof stock droid turbo USB cable shipped in bundle? I think I don't have stock cable, it says right at the plug phone side "be hello". No other labels or anything..

According to your guess-timate and max rated power I see on the charger, that seems about right and realistic guess BUT there also isn't anything TURBO about it. I'ts the average charging speed of every device today (1.5A) which doesn't have any kind of quick charge option. Even quick charge 1.0 is faster with 2.1A at 5v . Thats why I opened this topic, I'm confused.
Only voltage is higher on turbo charger than let's say my OPO charger but amps are lower and voltage doesn't have that much of an impact on charging speed, amps do!
When I have my Turbo in my truck at night, and running about a dozen things at once, in addition to all the background stuff, NO 'regular' charger can keep up with the power demand, and the battery undergoes a insanely slow discharge. By itself, the battery lasts 3 or 4 hours, tops. With the turbocharger, the battery charges at a modest rate, maybe 10% per 30 minutes...while under high demand.

Since no other turbo users jumped in...
At the time of starting the topic I have disabled some Verizon's bloatware (completely stock, locked turbo). After reflashing completely stock FW , and with untouched software, droid really did charged turbo fast. More than 1% per minute and around 0-60% for 30min just as advertised for quick charge 2.0 . So if anyone was wondering, that should be benchmark.
On the other hand, phone is almost impossible to charge with any other type of "normal" charger..
My Turbo, running stock MM/root/Xposed with a large load of apps, will charge 20-30% per hour on a normal 1A charger, while lying on the desk with the screen off. It charges at a similar rate via Qi wireless charging. This is plenty for daily overnight charging. My usage habits are such that I usually have 20-40% battery left when I get home from work in the evening.
In a different usage case, when I play Ingress (a real battery eater, screen on + 3D animated graphics + GPS + data) the Qi charger in my car holds discharge to about 5-10% per hour.
I've never had a turbo charger to compare, but I've never found the normal charger or Qi charger to be significantly lacking.

Right, I've also used "normal" charger before. Now, I have all QuickCharge plug chargers -- but I still use Qi wireless charging every day, as does my wife.
I also plug in via USB port on my computer and it charges fine.
okay the way the turbo charging works is that it's like a tier system at very very low charge percentages it works the fastest and slows off after about 60 or 70 percent it just charges like a regular charger all the magic happens at the lower charges. another thing is that unless the cable you are using is total garbage it won't matter at all. it is all the phone and the ac adapter that do the work any variations in the cable will be negligible. I am monitoring my battery through the custom kernel (bhb27 and its app) and it says right now at 81% charge on a turbo charging that I am getting +1172.x mA if my battery was lower this value would be much much higher
lastly I recommend only using the turbo charger when you really need power quickly. if you are just plugging in your phone for the night it makes no sense and will actually be bad for your battery health. the faster it charges the more it heats up and heat is not good for the battery health when I plug my phone in at night I use a .5 amp charger and my phone says that it will need like 8 or 9 hours to charge (this may be exsessive but the quick chargers heat up my phone a lot I also use a 1 and 2 amp charger nearby

Well charger supplied in the box is 1A so dont think thats quick charge isnt 2A quick charge not sure without looking into cpu specs the SD 435 supports it but its charges quicker than standard say , allso hooked up to my pny power bank that does 2.4A and charges fast battery life seems good

So you are saying it charges faster with other fast chargers??If yes,how much time it takes?
Well, after a little test. The phone has charged from 2% to 100% in 1 hour 17 minutes approximately.
It is a 30W Ugreen charger with 2 inputs, one QC 3.0 and the other 5v 2.4A (use USB port QC 3.0)
I feel that the load is normal, but compared to the one that comes as standard, this one charges me better (I calculate that it has to set the load to 5v 2.4A, since the charger is adaptive charging, we are not going to ask much of it at an average range of 2 years ago)
As a clarification, the charging was carried out with the phone turned off
The phone didn't heat up during charging, which is good.
Well, that's all I can get out of the LG Q6's "fast charge"

Qi Wireless charging problem

Hello!
i've bought Nillkin Disk Charger III which support fast charge (9V/1.7A max 10W) so does original Sony XZ2 charger and XZ2 itself. Sadly, when charging using Nillkin, XZ2 uses normal charging mode, not fast. 25% in hour. Only 400-500mA on wireless charger vs 2600mA on cable. With or without phone case, doesn't matter.
What can I do to charge it faster?

Can you download Ampere app from the play store and run it while charging on this Anker pad. Let us know if this one can really charge the XZ2 beyond the standard 5w speed. Report the mah if it can exceed the 800mah standard qi rate. Remember, fast wireless charging at 9-10w should be around 1400 to 1500mah.
I have tried 7 different brands of fast 10w wireless chargers so far (but not an Anker yet). None of them can exceed 800mah on the XZ2. I wonder if the official Sony one can really do it at 1500mah.
So, please use Ampere and report back your results with the Anker, thank you!

max with the Anker QI charger was 760mA. I use it to charge it at my office. I never cared about the charging speed A friends Galaxy S9 can use 1420mah with the same charger.

I too have a similar question. But it's about maximum allowed power for XZ2 wireless charging.
I just talked with Sony support and they too have no clue how XZ2 Qi wireless work. They told me better to buy (if at all) other brands' chargers with output NOT exceeding 9W, since it is the maximum output by the official Sony wireless charger.
But apparently some 3rd party brand reps told me that Sony uses Qi 3.0 and 10W chargers are completely fine. And all fast charger on Amazon output 10W with Qi 3.0 adapter.
So I am really confused whether those faster charger is safe for XZ2 at all.
'And it is very confusing that the Sony original adaptor has 3 working power: 5 V 2.7A DC, 9V 1.8 A DC, 12 V 1.35 A DC.
What do you guys think?

That's called Qualcomm Quick Charge.
While USB is specified for 5V QuickCharge 2.0 can use 5V, 9V and 12V (not used in phones).
QC 3.0 is even better as it has adaptive Voltage scaling from 4V to 9V theoretically.
Practically it's around 4.6 to 7.5V changing fluently during the charger process.
For normal cable powered charging the device itself decides how much amperage it wants to draw. The wall charger can only set an upper limit like 'only has 1.5A at 5V'
As wireless charging sends out power I think there is a communication between sender and receiver which handles the power output. Haven't really read much about that though.

I bought a 10W wireless charger from Amazon and it only charges at 5V 1A whereas the same charger charges a friends iPhone at 7.55V 1A. Has Sony built something into the phone/software that only enables 9W charging with the official dock?

Not so far. Got a Seneo fast wireless charger and some other brand I can't remember the name of; both tried with multiple QC charging packs I have lying around (and even Sony's brick supplied with the phone). According to AccuBattery, the XZ2 never pulls more than around 700 mAh, while my Lumia 950 XL hovers around 1700.
I'm thinking you're right, there is something special the XZ2 looks for in their WCH20 wireless charger unfortunately. I've tried turning Battery Care on and off too but that hasn't changed anything as far as raising the current draw.
I really have to try it when the battery is below 20% though to be a fair test.

Update: So I bought an Anker Powerwave wireless charger and QC3.0 adapter which Anker claim supports 10W charging on the XZ2. I have tested it and it charges at 7.45V at 1.2 Amps so not quite 10W but it charges from 0 to 100% in 2 hours 50 minutes which is much better than the first wireless charger i bought which took over 4 hours 30 minutes at 5W. Hope this helps.

actually, 7.45v at 1.2A is 9 watts. Which is reportedly the XZ2's peak draw.
A couple questions:
What did you use to check the charging stats? (I'm using AccuBattery currently). I don't think the latest Xperia phones have any fast charge indications like some other OEM's do.
Was the 7.45V/1.2 amps reading at 0% battery?
Was Battery Care enabled?
Did you happen to check the charge levels at various times during the 2h 50m and see if it fluctuated?
I'm using an Anker QC 3.0 charger with my Seneo which charges great over USB, so I don't think my problem is the charger. I'm going to let mine go to below 20% and try again.

I use accurate battery on every device I maintain.
At least to give an alert, if 80% battery capacity is reached during charging.

Sorry, yes I know its almost 9W. I was just making the point that it didn't reach the 10W Anker claim it can.
I use an inline USB amp meter...
The 7.45V 1.2 amps was from 0% to 70% after that it was 7.45v 1.0 amp until 100%
The 1.2 amps could only be achieved by careful positioning on the pad, if it was slightly to the left/right it would drop to 1.0 amp.
Battery care was disabled.

I think the 9W cap is Sony, not the Anker.
I'm going to send back my Seneo, obviously something is not working right with the XZ2 regards fast charging. Tried it with several different QC chargers, moving it around on the pad etc..

I would love to test out the WCH20 but in the UK Sony want £129. Have found it on Amazon for £70 but it's still silly money for a charging dock!
If you're considering the Anker Powerwave, it is very good. My only gripe is even though it stops charging once the phone reaches 100%, the cooling fan keeps running until you remove the phone from the pad which seems like an oversight.

I have the Nilkin charging stand for my XZ2 Premium and I am more than happy, it takes about 2hrs to go from 50% to full charge, it will never be as fast as wired charging, and the battery life on the Premium is great, I can easily get 2 days but would rarely need that.
Sony WCH20 can do 1700 mAh but only to 50% of battery charge. After that it is slower 1400 mAh and that again slower.

Guess I'll have to try the Anker Powerwave (which one did you get if I may ask?). I tried yet another brand, which again, fast charges my old Lumia 950 XL just fine around 1600 mAh, but the XZ2 refuses to go beyond ~700 mAh. Wondering if it's my phone or the XZ2's coil is just in a weird spot.
I'll have to spring for an inline USB meter. maybe it'll help me find the "sweet spot."
