Do you mean the capability of talking on the phone and being able to surf the web on the phone's browser or even talk on the phone while you are tethering the phone as a modem for a computer or laptop????
If that's what you mean the answer is a big fat NO... Had a long conversation with Sprint about this today. If there is no third party fix for this. My phone will probably be going back and they will have to eat the restocking fee themselves...

That is ridiculous! I used it a lot (tethering and talking at the same time). I can't believe they stepped back in this! Do you happen to know if this is only with Sprint or it is the same with other carriers?

Oh i agree. Same with me. Used it everyday. Think the newer notes dont have dual antennas or something like that. Baffling.
This is definitely a Sprint thing although when I had the S3 it had the capability to do both at the same time on Sprint.

You are right. The S3 was the last Samsung phone to support talk and surf under 3G service.
It's called: SVDO. I'm not so sure about Sprint but with Verizon, when you have LTE/4G, you can talk and surf.

I had a Note 3 in sprint which had 2 antennas and it could Data+Voice . Note 5 has only 1 antenna so it can't (atleast in Sprint Version). Also I think Sprint doesn't support VoLTE atm.
yes in another thread I started it has been confirmed that you can talk and surf on the Note 5 through other carriers....Sprint NO though Crazy to think I was talking and surfing on my busted up Note 2 just a few days ago, but can no longer do it on a brand new flagship phone. Just seems super backwards.

Samsung Note 5 on Verizon no longer supports talk and surf. Very frustrating. I thought I was upgrading from my Galaxy S4, besides the large screen, the Note 5 is a step back. Several other annoyances: you are no longer able to paste a telephone number into the dialer. The work around I found is if you press a number on the keypad first then you can paste the number in...you just have to make sure to erase whatever key you hit on the dialer. And there is no longer an option to quick dial a person more than one number (ie: cell and home). If you look at previous Samsung widgets they give you more than one option, now it is only showing one.
I also noticed not only does this kill talking on the phone and browsing the web but it can effect other things too. Everyday I find more and more limitations to this phone.
-Since I use texting a lot for my business, I started using free messaging app like Kik and others for personal and social texting....That way there are no mix ups between personal and business text... lol no accidental text. So While I am talking on the phone I can not receive any of those messages until after I end the phone call. Since those apps are internet connection based.
So does this mean Email and paypal notifications will do the same? Meaning I cant get an important email or paypal payment notification until I hang up with the client? This would suck big time because I normally keep my clients on the phone to verify their payment has been received....

Well other people are now reporting that it is not just a Sprint thing so you may want to get some clarity before you switch.... Not even just talking and surfing or tethering and talking, but the fact that I cant get any web based messages, notification,or payment alerts while I am on the phone seems like there is no reason to have an all in one phone. Might as well just have 2 devices...
This is terrible. Who else reported this? I doubt it's a GSM user

Looks like Post #11 in this thread is saying Verizon is no longer doing it. I have also seen others post this as well. I wish there was something that could be done about it. This really hinders my business use, social life, and entertainment vs my Note 2. Just an overall huge step backwards for me in every direction. I am just leery of buying a used Note 2 because I cant find any new old stock of them... Otherwise this thing would be back at Sprint ASAP.
All GSM note 5 are identical. There is no reason i could download, talk, hotspot and browse all at the same time using either LTE or a combination of LTE and wifi and other GSM note 5 can't. Isn't verizon also CDMA though? We don't have anymore CDMA carriers in Canada but I remember verizon being now or at some point CDMA

On my verizon note 5, I have to activate "advanced calling" in the settings. Only drawback is it sucks more battery juice on standby First time I activated it I had to reboot phone. I read the reason they had to change it is because 2 separate radios were used previously for voice and data. Now its a single radio.

Wow .. So it is possible with only one radio? I was under the impression that tome couriers opted for dual radios allowing talk and surf and Sprint did not. This is somewhat hopeful maybe there can be an app or hack to get or activate the "advanced calling" setting for Sprint. Would love to hear or see more info on this.... There is so much conflicting info on this.

Hey guys a friend of mine is thinking of getting the nexus one for ATT and has a few questions before he decides to buy it, I think I know how it works but I'm with T-mobile so I wanna make sure I give him the correct answer.
- does Google voice work flawless? Free unlimited local text?
- for those running froyo, will portable hotspot work? Any restrictions from ATT?

*GV uses data since its voip so definitely make sure its unlimited

I second that. GV is working fine running FRF83, last time I tried hotspot it worked fine as well (on FRF50). I have the unlimited data plan for iPhone and have had no issues with cellular data.

Google voice is not voip, it initiates the call and calls you and the google voice app handles that. So you need a little better signal to initiate a call. There were some odd things when setting up the voice mail but I disabled it the n set it up manually by dialing the*004* codes in true phone. It works great. The sms is nice, although not true sms,you can't send free picture messages using the voice app,i don't text alot though so it doesn't bother me.
Definitely make sure he gets the unlimited data though if possible,i use a lot of data, streaming music, email, web browsing, navigation, latitude updates. i used about a gig and a half a month.that's just me though.
Tethering works fine too, just don't over do it. I used 3.3gb one month cause I was out on the road for work.

There's no AT&T Nexus One, just a model that happens to support their 850Mhz HSDPA frequency. The ONLY difference between the 2 versions is the frequencies that the radio chip supports, everything else is identical, including the OS. Everything works _exactly_ the same. AT&T has nothing to do with it, it's made by HTC for Google, not for AT&T.
I understand and I'm well aware of the difference between the two versions. Matter of fact the Nexus is not officially supported by both ATT and T-mobile. Just didn't see the need to emphasize and be technical about my question, I figured "most" people would understand what I meant. that's a (small) shame.. I was able to use Wifi Calling once when out of the country (cell radio turned off)... saved me a ton of $$ when I needed to make a few important phone calls.
oh wait.. let me over-react... OMG that's it I will NEVER buy this phone... just kidding.
If there was ever such a thing as a good carrier app, this would be it. Shame, but not unexpected.
Really wish tmobile would find a way to get it on the market so all tmobile phones could download/update it.

Not a surprise since Wi-Fi calling only works on GB ROMs, it doesn't works on ICS/JB ROMs.

It's working on ICS roms. I'm reasonably certain that as soon as Tmo releases a JB rom with this in it, we'll see it ported to other devices/roms. I'm definitely hoping we see one for this device at some point as well. Won't stop me from getting this phone, but I'm hoping eventually we get the goods.
this is a deal breaker for me, as i am frequently in large buildings without reception.
there is no way for anyone besides tmo to add wifi calling. custom roms will not fill this gap. google voice kind of by not with the carrier number.

Not entirely true. Its built into the SGS 3 T-Mobile JellyBean leaks but it is not a simple task at all to get into other ROMs like it was in GB... it is now built into settings with a bunch of libs and such. Not many devs look at it as something worth spending days on to figure it out and code it into a custom ROM. Unfortunately of course.

Same! It's great for those who need it, but I am not in that group.
It just means this device is going to be stock on T-mobile so likely they will get updates just as fast as the Play Store version (it may be the same firmware minus Google Wallet).
It is a shame... when I went to China I could still talk to people at home for free which was amazing. And it helps in large buildings.
This is still entirely possible, without using anything developed by T-Mobile. It's not ideal for everyone, but I will be posting a comprehensive guide one of these days. I've been promising people for months, and once mid-terms are over, I'll be able to deliver.
Well using a sip account over WiFi will accomplish the same thing
The way I see it, this is actually a good thing. If they were to support WiFi calling on the Nex4, then it would need to go through them to get updates. If we got them from Google, then WiFi calling would break, and **** storm of complaints would hit TMobile support lines. This sucks, but i havent used it in over a year and to me direct updates > WiFi calling.
Agreed that it's only a small shame.
I'm not the one for long phone chats, anyway.
Here is the solution:
1. Port # to Google Voice
2. Setup a voip.ms account with a DID, setup failovers for no answer to forward to TMo # after 3 rings, unreachable, forward to TMo # after 3 rings.
3. Install csipsimple and register SIP account/voip.ms
4. Install Google Voice app and select "Use GV to make all calls"
When making a call, it prompts if you want to use voip.ms or cellular (Tmo). Incoming calls get routed to Google Voice, route to voip.ms, if not answered after 3 rings/14 seconds it forwards to TMo #. I get my TMo prepaid card for $28.50 a month (callingmart.com), I have the $30/month TMo plan (Unlimited 4G, unlimited text and 100min). I use the 100min up first then resort to voip calling the rest of the month if needed. voip.ms DID is .99 cents per month, and each minute on voip.ms is 1cent per minute, compared to 10 cent per minute after 100min on TMo. So I basically pay $30 per month after tax and after voip.ms fee's, insane.

Using SIP is not the same thing as WiFi calling. I think most people here know how to setup a VOIP account but T-mobile's version was fully integrated into their account/phone #.
While making a call on the EvoLTE i had 3G/LTE and i could still use the internet but on the HTC ONE this seems to be a problem even if i dont answer. My tethering will stop and my 3G will be disabled. Is it my ROM, Sprint, HTC or just me
The One does not have SV-DO like the EVO LTE did. They wanted the EVO to have SV-DO because Sprint's LTE network was still in its nascency when the phone came out and they thought that the ability to do voice and data simultaneously would ease their customers' complaints.
The One does not have this ability because both antennae can be used for LTE to minimize RF fade, which enables the One to have better LTE reception than the EVO did. The One does, however, feature SV-LTE, so you can do voice and data when connected to LTE.

OMG I was just about to ask the same thing! Why on Earth would no one bring this up before I purchased this phone? I thought it was originally the rom I was using (stock with goodies) but this is just plain dumb. LTE is not everywhere! How could they do this and get away with it. Now I'm sending the phone back and getting a Galaxy S4. HTC you've dropped the ball too many times. First the HTC EVO LTE and now this stupid iphone wannabe clone.
Is there anyway possible anyone can change this via a hack?

#1 Yes its my first post but I've been a silent member and supporter for a few years now. #2 This should have been made clear and the fact that it passed by me shows it wasn't because I would have never gotten this phone if that was the case. #3 I'm not under any Sprint contract anymore and can go to AT&T where I'm sure GSM can deliver both voice and text quite nicely and with ease and that SG4 at least has removable storage unlike this dumb iphone wannabe. And last but not least #4 I just got off the phone with Sprint and they're sending me a free HTC EVO LTE for the bother and trouble they've caused me by being idiots for not having LTE towers in my area.
When everything switches to LTE everywhere around the country then only will this phone be perfect. Until then it sucks and I can't wait to get back to my sense 4.0 with my good ol' message,music,email,bookmark,and note widgets HTC were best known for back in their prime. After bragging how much this phone crapped over the SG4 and anything apple could ever put out I'm ashamed and disappointed in Sprint and HTC.

Which is why I made Sprint send me a free new EVO LTE. Now I know I will always need a secondary phone until the year 2020 when LTE covers the globe. Knowing how slow Sprint is with their coverage and towers.

Yeah I don't see the big deal, it's a cool feature but nothin to get all crazy over. I wouldn't even want to be with Sprint if they didn't have 4g all over my city anyway because their 3g sucks big time.
Does anybody else remember when AT&T used to advertise the fact that it allowed you to browse and call at the same time? They made a pretty big deal about it. Until they were able to throw around fancy terms like 4G and LTE.

The fact that you know how to flash ROMs and mod your phone does not mean you have done proper research. Obviously, people knew that the One was not going to be SV-DO before it came out, as evidenced by the article that I posted above. SV-DO was somewhat of a surprise feature on the EVO LTE and Galaxy S3 when they were first announced and the FCC filings were reviewed. Anyone who knew anything about CDMA should've known this, yourself included.
What concerns me further is the fact that you've been coming to XDA for years yet still make generalizations like this:

You're right, GSM will support voice and data on the SGS4, just like it would on a GSM HTC One. But really? Comparing the One to the iPhone? Yes, I do wish that it had external storage, but I'm getting along just fine without it. As an Android phone, however, it is just as customizable as the SGS4. But, what I'm curious about is why you even bothered with this phone if you spent so much time on XDA as you claimed above? Surely, you knew that this phone did not have expandable storage or a removeable battery, so I'm confused as to why you even mentioned those shortcomings here, to say nothing of actually buying the phone.

Again, I can understand the fundamental limits that Sprint's network currently imposes on the One, but I'm confused as to why you are blaming HTC.

This is just outright confusing. You are clearly indicating that you plan on holding onto the EVO LTE until 2020. Do you know how useless your phone will be by then? If your battery manages to still be useful until then, the phone will be wildly outdated simply with respect to the frequencies it has access to. The EVO and One can only run on Sprint's 1900MHz LTE network. Sprint is currently rolling out LTE on their 800MHz and 2500MHz frequencies. Sprint will start selling tri-band phones optimized for all 3 of their LTE bands late this year/early next year (they're already selling hotspots for them). By then, a number of carriers (Sprint included) will be moving on to Vo-LTE making this entire issue moot. I don't even think Sprint will be transmitting 1xAdvanced by that point, so voice on the EVO LTE might not even work.
By the way, I see you've started to spread your disease to other threads, I'm going to be following you, cleaning up your mess.

With CDMA carriers adopting LTE, this will become less of an issue as all of Sprint's LTE phones support SV-LTE. Once Sprint transmits on all of its available spectrum, and once their network upgrades are complete, LTE will be pretty much everywhere that Sprint has 3G now. However, if you can't wait a year for their tri-band phones to come out, then you gotta do what you gotta do...

They tell me they'll have LTE everywhere they have 3G. But they don't have 3G anywhere! It's all name sake! Most of the time I can't even do a speed test!
Sprint has terrible coverage, even in huge covered markets like San Francisco. The speeds there were pathetic, ranging between 2 and 5 megs. If that's the best Sprint can do, while advertising speeds of around 20 megs, they should be sued for every dollar (or yen, I guess) they have.

I can't speak for San Francisco's network state, but if it is anything like Chicago was at your level of deployment, I can tell you that it's going to get a LOT better. EV-DO (3G) was BLAZING here between 2006-2009. Back then, I was regularly getting between 1-2Mbps, then it started dropping to 10-300Kbps (yes, 10Kbps). Now, when I don't get LTE (which isn't often now that Chicago is nearly done), my EV-DO is sill around 1Mbps, which is totally useable.

This is as of July 29. You should note that "LTE Sites Accepted" does not necessarily mean it's transmitting LTE yet, so the actual percentage is probably lower lower. This is where I have some trouble defending Sprint; they announce a market as "launched" when only a fraction of the towers are transmitting LTE.
Given the nature of LTE, it is a much more fragile airlink than EV-DO. Given the same frequency, LTE will drop before EV-DO does. That being said, 1900MHz LTE should be available around 80-90% of the places that 1900MHz EV-DO is. Once Sprint begins transmitting on 800MHz, the increased penetration means that LTE should be available everywhere 1900MHz EV-DO is now. So, if you're in a spot where you have the "3G" icon but you aren't able to get any data through, that means you're connected to a tower that has not received Network Vision upgrades. Once the NV upgrades are complete for 1900MHz, you should get useable 3G at a minimum. Once the tower starts transmitting LTE on 800MHz (assuming you have a compatible device by then), you should receive LTE.

I'm assuming that 2-5Mbps is when you're connected to LTE, right? EV-DO Rev. A maxes out at a theoretical 3.2Mbps. I'm not really sure what you're doing that you need more than 2-5Mbps, but once all the backhaul is complete, you should be getting 6-8Mbps with low latency. Where did you get 20Mbps, just out of curiosity? I've never seen that number... The maximum theoretical throughput of Sprint's 1900MHz LTE on a 5x5 carrier is 37.5Mbps, though real-world should be what I said earlier.

Yeah, CDMA does not allow simultaneous data and voice. Its very rare that you should have to do this, but it is another reason why I'll never buy another CDMA phone ever again. The One is my first and last with Sprint.

I wouldn't be on sprint if i wasn't on a large family plan (that i don't pay a dime for). When the time comes to pay for my own service, i'll probably go unlocked on T-mobile if they have good Chicagoland and Michigan coverage.
I love HTC phones (because of how clean sense is) and I love Sprint (for their unlimited data only). Heres what I hate about them both...Sprint is clearly the weakest out of all the carriers but they make up for it with unlimited data plans. For them to not include the same tech in their new flag ship phones such as the HTC ONE/SG4/and future tech like the EVO LTE and SG3 has is PURE BS*! Theres no way Sprint will have country wide coverage of their LTE service even in the next 5 years and if so it will be spotty as HELL. I think its a slap in the face to many of their loyal customers who still live in rural/farm/or dense suburb areas. I haven't seen anything this stupid since the unveil of XBOX ONE! Sprint better take a note from Microsoft and reverse this $hit very fast because when people come out of their 2 year contracts from the EVO LTE and SG3 they're gonna be pissed when they find out their new upgrades can't do what their old phones can.
Screw what you and I know now about the tech subhuman. The fact of the matter is the mass general consumers of Sprint have no idea about the tech inside the phone. They will just expect their new powerful phones to be able to do what their old phones use to do. For Sprint sake they better have LTE towers up every damn where in the year or all HELL will break loose. Sprint is going to lose a lot of costumers to AT&T.
Now onto the HTC hate. For some reason HTC keeps dropping the damn ball with their phones and software (sense). For every step they take forward they cut off a limb. The built in battery $hit and no SD card expansion are stupid things I've grown to make fun of Apple fanboys for but now I find myself on the other side of the fence because I trusted HTC to show Apple they could do exactly what they're doing and beat them in quality....HOW FOOLISH WAS I TO THINK THAT! The whole unibody thing is neat and the front speakers are amazing but thats where the HTC ONE stops becoming awesome. SENSE 5.0 is $hit! Where the hell are all my SENSE 4.0 widgets?! Why do HTC keep cutting these things with every new phone instead of adding to the already elegance of the OS (I mean sense not Jellybean).
I have 5 Sprint lines open and one of them is the new HTC ONE which is the only one under a new contract. I still have 8 days to cancel it if I choose to. I personally use 3 of the lines which are all rooted HTC phones. The original EVO 4G,EVO LTE,and now the ONE. Its amazing how the original EVO still has a better 3G connection than its newer cousins and can download files faster using wifi tether. It just pisses me off that Sprint didn't care enough to include all their handsets with their best 3G services (for voice and data) until they figured out all this stupid LTE placement.
Now thanks to Subhuman I'm more educated on all the frequencies and radios that go in these new phones vs the old. I know the phone is capable of sending text while on a call now but only on LTE. But I have a few questions/request that will help me determine if I will keep the HTC ONE now. As of right now I'm using the phone as a Windows 8 wannabe with the Launcher 8 app (I know, I know, I'm lame) Please help me out if you can.
1. Can someone please find a way to put the SENSE 4.0 widgets on the HTC ONE including HTC Notes?
2. Is it me or can anyone else not access your apps while using the ONE with the HTC Media Link HD?
3. Since this thing doesn't use micro SD cards and you have to copy data to the phone its incredibly slow. Is there anyway to speed the data transfer up instead of copying 1 item at a time?....HTC Sync sucks too :-/

My Motorola photon q 4g lte was able to use 3g while on the phone. Seems like we're taking a step backwards, doesn't it?

First the ability to talk and use data on 3G (SVDO) not being included had nothing to with Sprint or HTC. It's because Qualcomm changed that. Read that article from s4gru referenced earlier.
The general concesus was that Sense was to gaudy and intrusive, that was always what most people said in critism to HTC, Sense 5 changed alot to be smaller, less intrusive, and also conform more to Android (Googles) Holo look and feel. As such, lots of the widget were taken out, but most of the critics have been positive in reference to Sense 5.
1. Sense 4 widgets will not work on the Sense 5 framework and would require lots of work if they were even to ever work. No one seems willing to do that work since you are the first I've seen to want it.
2. I don't have a Media link, but do you have the H200 or H300. I H300 is the new one that came as a bonus on the AT&T preordered Ones. Maybe the problem is you are using the H200.

@1. You didn't like the ease of the Sense 4.0 widgets O_O wow?! As much as I hear people cry about the blinkfeed it would seem they would want proper widgets back. Anyway I'm no a dev and I'm hoping someone good like Flex360 or another dev would go through the trouble of making them work on SENSE 5.0 I'd donate a nice amount of money for something like that.
@2. I probably have the H200 but I did do an update last night so it should be on par with the 300 now.
@3. Maybe thats the reason but I just find it always slower to copy to the device that has built in storage rather than the device that has a removable sd card slot. Its like that slow Apple syncing crap from itunes. I really don't get why its like that even on other devices. I copied 1.90GB yesterday to the HTC ONE (pics,music,etc) it took about an hour to transfer. If I was transferring that same amount to an SD card (like in my EVO LTE) it would take 8-10 min the most.
@4. No I'm not running any kind of adblock I don't think unless Flex360's Stock with goodies rom has a native adblock built in.

Please, try to understand the reason WHY they no longer support SV-DO. Using multiple antennae for LTE will increase LTE reception. What’s better, spotty LTE with SV-DO or a solid LTE connection without SV-DO? Assume you're on a fringe LTE area.

Sprint will be done with round 1 of Network Vision by the end, if not the middle, of 2014. They started rolling out LTE in late 2011 and are currently done with just over half of their 39,000 sites. All but roughly 100 (0.25%) of those 39,000 sites will not receive LTE because of licensing agreements or regulatory issues. I’m sorry, but I can’t give you more details than that because I’m getting this information from the Sponsor section of S4GRU.com. As I said above, on 1900MHz alone, LTE will cover 80-90% of the places that you’re getting 3G. As for the places where you can get 3G but no useable speed, you will get useable 3G, but it will unfortunately lack SV-DO. By 2015, Sprint will have 800MHz LTE on about 80% of its 39,000 sites, increasing LTE penetration and covering pretty much everywhere that is now 3G.

Looking solely at a phone’s ability to do simultaneous voice and data, AT&T does have Sprint beat, but honestly, so few people actually use this that it will not be an issue. You seem to be an outlier, wanting to use your phone while tethering. How many of the “mass general customers” tether their phones? Most of the people that you’re talking about don’t even know what “tethering” is. Additionally, voice is being used less and less, which is why so many carriers are practically giving it away. For most people, the few minutes per day that people spend talking on their phones won’t impact their ability to use data because they’ll probably be walking or driving while talking. Once the LTE rollouts are complete, it will be a non-issue because all phones will support SV-LTE.

I can agree with you here to an extent. When I first made the jump from Windows Mobile (not Windows Phone) to back in 2010, I considered both the iPhone and Android. I hated the locked-down philosophy that Apple had both in terms of hardware and software. I very much dislike being denied the ability to expand storage or swap batteries.

The word “elegance” implies tasteful and simple, generally speaking. If HTC were to continue piling on superfluous options, it would be at odds with elegance. I think HTC believes that there are now enough options in the Play store that they can back off and allow people to choose what they want from there. I think that Beautiful Widgets is itself a testament to HTC’s prior genius; those widgets are obviously inspired by Sense. Which widgets are you missing, exactly?

The difference in performance is a little strange, I will grant that. The One’s 3G connection should be at least on par with the original EVO. Personally, I have not noticed any difference, though my one is a clear step up from my EVO LTE.

The One is capable of sending a text while on a call without being connected to LTE, I just did it.

1.) It might be best to search the Play store for the specific widgets that you need.
2.) I’m sorry, but I am unfamiliar with Media Link.
3.) This is a hassle, and loading everything on the phone typically takes time. I just mount it as an external drive and copy/paste, then leave it for the 45 minutes or so that it needs. I’ve never used HTC Sync, but for my photos, I have it set up so that it auto-uploads to Dropbox every time I connect to my Wi-Fi.
4.) This happens to me as well on YouTube, typically on slower connections. I think it has something to do with the buffering and/or compression.

The Photon Q was another phone that supported SV-DO, so all these arguments apply to that phone as well.

I'd be willing to place down a wager that the +Verizon Wireless and +AT&T variants of the Galaxy S5 will have the download booster feature disabled.
I can't imagine those companies taking very kindly to the idea of using WiFi and LTE simultaneously, just due to the fear of pissed off customers going over their data plans because they had no idea what they were doing. Plus it has the real potential to create even more usage on their networks, which most bigger carriers don't seem to like.
Considering how providers like to push people to use WiFi whenever possible (doesn't ever carrier have a WiFi finder app these days?), yeah, I don't see the big boys taking too kindly to the download booster. I guess we'll find out in a little under 2 weeks.
If my hunch is correct, I'd highly suggest that anyone owning affected variants scream and complain to anyone who will listen. This will hopefully lead to the guilty carriers releasing statements saying "The exclusion of the download booster functionality was an oversight and not intentional. We will fix this issue in a future software update."

Well AT&T's sure doesn't mention download booster anywhere on the S5 page. I swear to God if they disabled it I will raise hell. Such a great feature too.
But these larger carriers have to much control. They really shouldn't be able to touch any device or modify it. Only Samsung should do that. If T-Mobile didn't have such spotty coverage by me, I'd be on them in a second ordering my S5 instead of ATT.
Ordering the non carrier version of the S5 isn't an option either because it so conveniently doesn't support bands 4 and 17. WOW
That's because the unlocked international version isn't intended for the US market. It's intended to be sold at retail in other countries and the LTE bands that it suppers reflects that.

I don't see why they would do this. If a customer goes over their data usage, that's more money in the carrier's pocket. Playing ignorance isn't an excuse for going over your limit. I don't see why a carrier would hand-hold customers on this issue. Not only that, but I don't see Samsung allowing them to do this, considering this is a pretty major selling point for the S5.
I could be wrong but i would imagine there is a setting you can disable to prevent yourself from constantly using both. So it should be in the purchasers hands hence no reason for AT&T to disable it to prevent data overages. That being said, AT&T is a company that likes to piss everyone off and remove features that are major selling points just because they can.

I can definitely see them doing this. Let me tell you why. AT&T is the only carrier that has brainwashed people in thinking WIFI is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I've often had AT&T reps tell me, ya know you really should use WIFI instead of your data. I was like why do I pay for it then? I still have the original AT&T $30 unlimited data plan for smartphones so I don't care, but even with that, they try to tell me to use wifi. I believe its because they don't want the same disaster to happen to their network that happened back in 2009. The network overloaded with all the iPhones. Nowadays, the network is amazing and has no problem with capacity. But I think they instilled it into all their rep's heads to make people use WIFI all the time. I have passed an AT&T store while driving and my phone connects to their crappy WIFI. I even argued with one rep a while back that my mobile internet connection is more stable than their crappy in-store WIFI network.
So yea thats my two cents. I really hope they don't eliminate this awesome feature. I pre-ordered the device on AT&T and will be the first one to post if they did or not when I get it April 8

I preordered an AT&T GS5 as well. I don't think it will replace my Z Ultra GPE as a daily driver, but I'm definitely going to have fun with it.

Yea I know. Part of me just wishes there was only 1 GS5 that was a world phone that supported every kind of LTE network.
I did use the International Galaxy S3 years ago on AT&T and it worked great. No bloat, fast updates, and a black dialer. I may sound contradicting here, but now may actually be a great time to buy an HSPA+ only device. The HSPA+ network works great and isn't congested anymore. I occasionally test it out on my iPhone 5S since you can turn LTE off. I always get about 7-10mbps down. Even during calls speeds are now great. But when your getting 50mbps on LTE going back to H+ kinda hurts lol.
I ordered the white GS5. Never owned a white galaxy before. Cant wait to get it.

This feature is a key selling point in Samsung's walk through of the phone, so I'd say it won't be blocked. My thought was actually that I will never use this feature unless it's an emergency" (I. e. need new rom ASAP) or I have a lot of data left for the month. Otherwise, AT&T could be making some nice dough off of people going over their data limits.

My thought was actually that I will never use this feature unless it's an emergency" (I. e. need new rom ASAP) or I have a lot of data left for the month. Otherwise, AT&T could be making some nice dough off of people going over their data limits.

I am hoping that there is a way to disable it, as I really don't need it.
As it turns out, I changed my mind.. Cancelled my order and ordered HTC One M8

According to that article, not only can you disable it, but it actually doesnt impact normal web browsing or downloading small files. All the more reason AT&T has no excuse to disable it. For the average consumer, you wont got over your data simply because its on. If you arent downloading files over 30mb, it does nothing.
I'm sure the feature isn't there on the store models. Maybe because no sim card or active data connection

Sure enough went to the AT&T store today and chgecked the s5 that has a sim card in it and couldn't find the download booster.

Wow... Well hopefully the floor model isn't running final software and there will be an OTA before launch. I'm not going to freak out just yet.

If they disabled that feature then I think its time we start retaliating. I probably will send my pre-order back and go with the International version. The LTE networks are getting bogged down nowadays, while the HSPA+ network is doing great.

I'm going to head over to the biggest corporate store in the area tonight and see if they have a GS5 on the floor. If so, I'll try to verify it. If it's true, you can bet your ass I'm canceling my preorder.

Sorry they came up inverted.
Some people never get my texts at random times. Receiving people using: Iphone, LG, etc. I've hear other samsung people complain about this with different sam phones. Tmobile here. Anyone else having that issue? Seems like it happens more on Note 8. Google and xda search no answers really.
Actually yeah, my gf doesn't receive my texts sometimes, she's on Sprint with a S8+. I'm on T-mobile with Exynos. I'm not sure what the issue is & if it is Note 8 related but eveyone else seems to get my texts w/ other devices & carriers. She's the only person I know on Sprint. Didn't have that issue with her previous Sammy (also on Sprint) & with my Note 8. Didn't have this issue on my T-Mobile Note 5 either.
I have since turned off SMS Over IP & it seems to be working. Still testing though. I tried turning off RCS/joyn but that didn't make a difference.

Hmm strange. Just curious why you not on family plan with gf? I feel violated without family plan. You using stock sms?

A bit complicated but yeah eventually. One reason is I don't want to risk loosing my godfathered unlimited data. My parents are on a family plan with my brothers on Verizon, probably add her to that eventually. I'll never go to Verizon! I take that back, my parents are on T-mobile now with Note 8s.

Friend go tmobile. $35 unlimited everything till 50 GB nothing beats it. Verizon feel violated. Maybe it is a t-mobile thing with no texts thing.

$35 is standard One plan, no HD streaming, throtttled to 480p, can't turn off Binge On. But whatever, I'm not chaning my plan, no benefit for me to change to their One Plus plan.
