Chrome Home Button - ONE Themes and Apps

If anyone is interested in having a little home button in Chrome, it's pretty simple. I just copied the ChromeCustomizations.apk from the newest COS 12.1 build to the appropriate folder, set the correct permissions and it worked!
I know it's a trivial mod but thought I'd post it here in case anyone else wants it. I have only tested it on CM nightlies (more specifically Sultan's CM 12.1 CAF ROM). It should work on CM based ROMS but not sure about others.
You can either copy the apk file to system/app/ChromeCustomizations/ folder (you'll have to create the folder), or use the attached flashable zip.
Enjoy.

Thank you very much. I've been looking for this. Confirmed working on latest Chrome Beta after flashing through TWRP too. Awesome work.

Thanks

Yes, it worked for me with Chrome beta. Didn't try on Chrome. After installing as per the indtructions, reboot your phone to see it working.

Works beautifully.
Moto X Pure. Chrome beta. TruPureXMM.
I used the flashable file.
Edit
It takes me to a bing search. Why?
If someone needs to remove it. Hold down on the home button till a remove box pops up.

I confirme that works with appsettings 3.13 xposed module and tablet ui mode
Now i have three buttons
Home, back and forword
Great work
Thanks

You know you can change the default home page in the chrome app settings, right? The default is bing because this mod is from cyanogen OS but you can change it to whatever you want. Like the screen shot from the OP where I have it set to BBC.com.

Fantastic. What I was looking for and works is leaving the home page blank. Hit home and takes me to google page.

I don't have back/forward buttons. You should ask the person that posted those screenshots. Looks like a cool mod but it's probably due to the app settings xposed module which allows you to use the tablet UI. I personally don't use xposed any more.

This is great. I like it a lot. Ty.

I just found this. The lack of a home button was a major obstacle to my using Chrome as my default browser. Some versions of Chrome (e.g. T-Mobile) and some 3rd party browsers come with speed dials or home pages as a default, and Firefox has an add-on. This is just what I was looking for for Chrome. I set my home page to chrome-native://bookmarks/mobile-bookmarks, which brings up my bookmarks as my home page. Perfect. Thanks!

You're awesome!
I just wanted to thank you so much for this! I've been looking in all the wrong places to return the home button to my chrome! Honestly it's been driving me insane!
Sorry if I double post, I tried replying once already and it bugged out, so I'm not sure if it's delayed.

So, is there a way to add the Home button on a Droid Turbo 2 (Marshmallow) without Root?

Excellent! I've been searching for ages for this so to my great delight I finally found this page, thanks a lot man!

Freaking awesome!
I have been banging my head over this since I switched from stalk is to cm13 one my Oneplus One. Thank you thank you thank you.

[APP][ROOT]ScreenToggle - turn off your screen (e.g. while plugged into hdmi)

Wanna turn your Screen off while watching videos over HDMI?
Or need a watchful Xoom but don´t want the screen to be on all the time?
Here´s the app you need!
Description:
The App adds the posibility to turn off the lcd backlight to your xoom. Its nothing less then a shutdown-button for your display backlight.
The app toggles your lcd backlight to zero and back, said doesn´t just overlay your screen with black, like the other apps inside the market.
it turns off your screen light completly , but the screen stays responsible and the devices stays awake.
Use it instead of locking your xoom, if you need your device itself to be active but dont need the display to be on, e.g. while you´re watching videos over hdmi, use your xoom as a vnc server or something like that.

Use this awesome little App with some "starter app" of your choice.
For example, use the Shaking Shortcurt App, register ToggleScreenXoom.apk and you could turn your screen on/off with just shaking your device.
(tested on xoom [email protected] but should work on every rooted xoom)
Thanks to [email protected] for his work on this.

Does it work on xoom2? with 3.2.2 rooted?
I used the old method that this thread started as, using market apps. Unfortunately it doesn't work with the Cornerstone version of the Eos roms. What exactly is app? Can you provide more detail? I don't just download apps to try them without some type of info...

"Basically" the same as the old method, right. Just in one app without the need of configuration and with more flexibility to be launched by other apps.
Maybe you´ll try "Shaking Shortcurt". A nice app that lets you launch two other apps by shaking your xoom.
Yeah, think I'll try that instead of SwipePad. Since Swipepad rely's on the borders of the screen and Cornerstone alters the borders, I'm guessing that's the issue. Maybe the Shaking app won't have that issue.
Thanks again for the clarification, and the thread. I really can't believe this thread hasn't blown up!

NO!!! don't flash in recovery, i say that, mainly cause I don't know what it will do... you can install the app while ics is running, I think I used astro but can't remember. What you just asked was the same thing I had wondered.

First post is edited to get it straight.
Does this only work on the xoom? I have an acer 510 and I want something like this. It sounds like this gets launched in conjunction with whatever app you launch. I'd rather that while on hdmi the tablet display is off entirely. Or maybe this does that as well.
So is this specific to the xoom?

According to the readme provided in the zip file this application seems to be specific for the Xoom, or at least a few tegra 2 tablets.
That's disappointing. Why would manufacturer's assume that a user wants the display to stay on while using hdmi?! How about a sane default like leave hdmi output on and turn off tablet display after the normal inactivity duration. But allow a keyboard/mouse not to be recognized as tablet activity.
Could this be modified to work with more devices? Or say newer tegra 3 devices if it's chipset specific. But really, ics should have some application layer to control things like hdmi res, screen active etc...
Nice! Works in AOKP
First of all, this is a great app, and it works well in AOKP (build 37).
To trigger the app, I set my "home" softkey on my xoom (in Rom Control) to trigger the app when the key is held. Even though you can't see the softkeys when on hdmi, after a while, its exact location is easy to recall.
It is really convenient. Thanks for the much needed addition to a great device.

[REQ]GE 4.3 vibrate on call answer

Anyone found an app that actualy works for 4.3, anyone maybe knows how to modify phone.apk, whatever, I really miss the functionality from AOSP and Sense. Any suggestions, is there some kind of xposed mod for this?
I am using exdialer instead of the native one. This has some plugins that you can activate, one of those being vibrate on answer/end... Try it out.

I tried that one but I just can't live with a non stock app that is supposed to be stock,it's a medical condition.
I was hoping for a DIY mod or maybe xposed mod...I know,optimistic:fingers-crossed:.
There is the GravityBox Xposed module which has something related to vibration during call.
Also, the plugin for exdialer is a stand-alone apk that is messing with some api in the phone.apk .... it has nothing to do with exDialer itself ... maybe you should just put that one .
Snapshot from GravityBox settings ...

I will most definitly try just the plugin itself, thank you for the tip.
As for the module goes, I already requested this feature in one of the next version so, the dev wrote that he'll look into it, so I've got my hopes up.
I was hoping that enabling or disabling the feature would make the call answer vibrate but I guess it's only for disabling it so...I'll see what the dev can do. In the meantime, I'll try the plugin:good:.
EDIT: Awesome, the plugin works, thank you very very much. I installed the plugin but there is no way to open it. So I had to install the main app as well, set the root priviliges for the plugin, uninstalled the main app and the plugin still works...very happy .

Various app questions. Trying to finalize my NST setup using 1337 ROMs.

Hi, everyone. I'm currently trying to set up my NST using 1337 ROM and make everything works the way it should.
I am trying to get Google Voice to work. I have everything working except for the keyboard. I just cannot get the keyboard to pop up. Is there an alternate keyboard I can install or should I install an older Google Voice APK? I'm not sure where to go from here.
Amazon Appstore cannot be parsed properly. I am assuming that this is because the apk is the most recent version. I cannot seem to find any NST compatible APK so I'm wondering if anybody here could share a link to it for me please? Thanks
I am also not able to find the right opera APK. I want to replace the UC browser that came built in.
Is there any RPG games you can recommend for the NST? I'm currently checking out Andor's Trail. And a few RPG GameBoy games via an emulator. Just trying to get some simple games. Especially some that are two players so I can play with my wife too.
Thank you for any responses.

2. Execute the commands displayed below:

The menu background issues have been addressed by altering images in the framework-res.apk. There are two versions around, one with lighter backgrounds (still darker than the original) and one with darker backgrounds. These changes are global so they will affect the overall appearance of even B&N menus. I chose the lighter ones.
The installation is described here and you can examine more of that thread for additional info. The files described are no longer available at the links given in the thread, but I believe mergen3107 recently reposted them.
Thanks! I did everything suggested and it seems to have fixed everything. Still getting used to the new barely visible menu text but I think I can handle that.
Thank you both! the Nook is a lot more usable now
@Deafcyclist, I just updated my SBM Theme (which is used in yattaro's and my 1337 ROM) to include nmyshkin's and mergen3107's fix for the barely visible menu text. Go check it out, if you like. The .apk there with the fix is called framework-res.alt.batterypercentage+graymenu.apk. Follow the installation instructions, and you'll be good to go.

Keyboard w/ Dedicated Number row and Punctuation YAY!

I found this AOSP version which works EXACTLY like the installed Google Keyboard only it has those two items activated. I did not make any modifications to this, I found this on XDA here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590902
I've been looking for something like this for a long time. Swiftkey has something similar but the way that program handles next word prediction over previous word correction drives me nuts. Google keyboard has recently removed the punctuation long press option which also drove me nuts.
This keyboard works perfectly on my 6P. I love having the dedicated number row, punctuation and not having the keyboard be a jacked up size like the PC option.
The one issue I had was if I went into settings for the keyboard one of the options in there force closed until I selected the keyboard as active and rebooted. Then I was able to access that settings option without force close. YMMV.
No issues other than that. I just wanted to spread the word. File attached, you can also grab it from the link above. Zip is flashable.
FYI...... @Shaftamle has had a themed Google keyboard thread for a long time and has many different keyboards just like this. I personally use the transparent one because I'm a fan of that style. Just in case you'd like other options

Enable New Dark Mode setting for Google Phone (it's beta, but usable) - Root required

Hey everyone, I did a search and didn't see a quick guide posted about this so I thought I would write one up with some pictures real quick.
Pre How To Notes:
* the usual I am not responsible for your device, if you mess it up its on you etc etc. Make a back up or have an apk ready.
* I have only tested this on the v30= but im sure it will work on all devices running Google Dialer Beta 24.0.214850721 ( https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...gle-phone-24-0-214850721-release/#description ). I am part of the Dialer beta and was not pushed the beta 24 release, so I had to manually update it to this one. The needed setting do not exist in beta 23.
* I am using the following 3 Magisk modules - Google Dialer and Contacts for OP5 and/5T - Android 0 Apt x libraries - Pixel Experience. These may or may not effect anyones ability to enable these features, but since I am going to post and run I figured it was easier to say such now than find out tomorrow that noone could replicate it and this is the reason why.
* I just saw @syndre post a magisk module for the dialer and contacts that is version 24. May or may not work with that, and maybe if you all ask super nice he will make a second magisk module that has dark mode enabled since I have never made a magisk module and wouldnt know where to start.
* You must have "Preferences Manager" installed from the play store (or wherever i guess) in order to do this. ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.simon.marquis.preferencesmanager&hl=en_US )
Ok so its fairly simple.
How To enable Dark Mode on Android Dialer
1) Open Preferences Manager (make sure it has root priv) scroll down to "Phone" app and select it.
2) Scroll over to dialer_phenotype_flags.xml and find the setting G__enable_dark_mode_setting and switch it from "false" to true
3) Now find com.google.android.dialer_preferences.xml and find the setting for display_options_dark_mode and switch that one from 'false' to "true".
4) Close out, force stop google dialer, reopen the dialer.
5) Go to dialer Settings, and select Display, then check Dark Mode - Enable.
Boom, you're done. Its a little buggy but it works and I havent had any issues.
Let me know if you have any questions
:good:I just replaced dialer in Pie with the modified version!! Dark theme is awesome at night, Thank you!! :highfive:
the extra app isn't urgently needed for editing the xml files these files are stored in
/data/data/com.google.android.dialer/shared_prefs
and can be edited with a simple text editor capable of root rights.
thanks for finding and sharing :good: merci

No problem and Thank you @seadersn .
I was originally going to get into a whole additional paragraph or two of alternative methods to enable the necessary flags but decided to just use Preferences Manager as the example because it seemed like the most foolproof and easiest way for any level of user to accomplish the necessary steps.
And I figured that anyone with more advanced capabilities would spot what was being done overall and could accomplish the changes however they were most comfortable performing them (your post of course being a prime example of it accomplishing just that)

Just taking a quick look it looks like those files have too much personal information in them for me to just straight-up replace them completely with a module. I think that one line of the preferences file needs to be edited by hand somehow by anyone this right now until the implemented fully. I changed the one line showing in the screenshot and notice there was a toggle switch in the dialer app now, switching that makes it look like the third screenshot. I can't use it like that, lol

Thanks for this!
Can't get this working on my rooted lg v30. When I open preferences manager I have to show system apps to see Google phone. Then I have to scroll right to find data_rollout_dark_mode and set to true. Then scroll right again to display_options_dark_mode and set it to true. Force close app and no option for dark mode in display options when I open it.

I've tried a couple more times using different variations of the steps, and still can't seem to get the dark mode to show up in the application.

So I used se text editor to locate the files, and changed false to true. Force close dialer. Opened and still no dark.

I'd be more than happy to enable it if the option showed up. Thanks anyway.
just wait til g. releases it, fully functional; i do wait. atm it's ¾functional only, at its best. there are areas which aren't black-themed, which looks weird sometimes.

I kept picking at it, and eventually edited the correct strings. I've got working dark mode.
the new v25 magisk module containing newest dialer version does indeed look good with dark mode just tried it again, it looks much more better than in the last version. i think next version will contain it officially, there's a new "__data_rollout__DarkMode.EnableDarkModeRollout__launched__" bool.

Yes, that's the version I'm using. I agree, I think the dark version looks very nice. I'm a fan of darker themes.
