I thought it might be a good thing if we all chipped and showed him some support after all the help and support he has provided. He unfortunately had an accident and his phone ended up destroyed. P1 has done a lot for this forum including support a lot of people that needed help. Aside from that I am sure he has helped many cooks testing their work before they published it to this forum. He has done beta testing for ROMS that you might have used in the past or might be running now. I see him as one fo the key people that keeps information moving in this forum. Those are just my two cents.

ohhh myyyy gooood, you have got to be kidding me, the man dropped his phone in oil, if you want to donate then do so, if not don't, p1tater has a BIG reputation, the fact that he has a FTP site for everyone to use was well worth the donation i made. you can find all kinds of cool FREE software to download for FREE. If thats not justification for a donation i don't know what is. Also if you had dropped your phone in oil and helped a bunch of people on here wouldn't you hope that others would donate. Just for the fact of being able get him a new device so he can help beta test to make the programs you download work properly. you should be ashamed of even righting what you did.

Nobody need to sell you the idea because this is a DONATION.
Engrish is my 2nd language but I do understand the meaning and spirit of the word. If you dont , please look up in the dictionary.

Hello everyone..
This I thought was something important that I decided to put in the theme thread since the above mentioned developer has had such an impact in the theming world.
So I was talking to cacheinjection just a few minutes ago on gtalk, and he unfortunately told me to let the xda community know that he will be leaving the android theming for a while.
He gave the reason as he was getting very busy with his job, and so does not have that much time right now(which i'm sure is true for most android developers since we can't be on xda all day every day), and also he expressed his discontent at people's lack of appreciation for all that he did/has been doing. He has been quite a revolutionary themer and most people would agree with me that the new things that he brought to the android scene, along with the help of other great developers: freekyfrogy and djosiah, made us love our g1's/mytouch 3g's all over again. With my time being on xda, I have seen this too many times where some ppl on xda actually end up pushing developers away because they do not realize that all developers have lives apart from the work they do for free for the xda community. I think it goes without saying that we as an xda community should show our appreciation to developers, as our way of saying thank you for taking time out of their day.

Very true. Also, I feel even worse for the Devs, they aren't that much more appreciated either! They make wonderful Roms and include awesome instructions yet people ask questions that are already answered and demand more and more and more. I don't know how some of them (including themers) put up with everything. Reading the posts people make in Rom threads make me go They want this, that, etc etc etc!
If only people took some more effort into doing some stuff themselves or even learning the basics, it would probably reduce a lot of these issues. I love when I see a theme release and people just ask for different stuff when they can do it themselves lol, I wonder if they even know how much time this stuff takes. I also don't think most of the people understand or know a thing about the Roms, other then flashing it! Which leads to more demands and devs that have to deal with it!
Just another example of a great developer being pushed away by unappreciative idiots on this forum. It's kind of sad really, alot of people have nothing better to do but to refresh the page every 5 seconds waiting for a new update (usually for a minor bug) even though an update was released just a few days prior. Better yet, the same people will b*tch and moan if a Dev hasn't put anything out for a week, while completely disregarding the fact that people like Cache work for free despite the fact they have actual lives outside of xda. This applies for ROMS and themes.
Xda should be a pay site and I'm serious. Either subscription based or download based. If not then this site will slowly die, do you think devs will continually put up with this crap over and over again? I have no problem paying a mandatory fee for an amazing theme or ROM. Nothing major, just a few dollars but at least the devs will get some guaranteed compensation.

Something like the membership @ modaco. People get angry when a new update doesn't come out which is ridiculous.

It seems people want things on there schedule and how they want it.. A dev developes for him/herself and then share with the community.. We shouldn't expect anything from them we should be happy that they took there time to make something for us (community)....

Ah I'd be totally down for some kind of membership/subscription here (As long as it isn't too much! Just some membership thing would be nice)
And now that you guys mention people constantly wanting updates, that reminds me of how ppl appear to go crazy when Cyanogen doesn't release an update and think he's left the project to die cause of nexus one lmao. I personally think most of us will just keep wanting updates (flashaholics!), even at the point where updates are almost no longer possible!
It's terrible how all the complainers ruin it for all the people who truly do appreciate the devs work. The lurkers like me far outnumber the haters but the fact that we lurk is probably part of the problem. We'll miss him cache's work has definitely been some of the best.....the Darkstar theme is the best thing on any cellular device to date imho.
Sorry to see him leave, he will be missed.

ive been part of the android community since day 1 of the g1 being released...
i wasnt a linux geek or themeing master but i patiently waited...learned the tricks and began helping others...
it was fun to give people tips and tricks on how to do things
help run their roms on their phone when they cant anymore...
and i feel what ur saying
its hard to keep up with a community thats so young and wants everything quick...some people just dont realize the time that goes into it...
well i hope u do come back and if u keep ur themes for a select few i understand that...for peopel who donate and what not i would be more than willing to pitch in...everyone deserves payment for their work...nothing in this world is free

damn this guy was my partner in crime lol. to be honest without cache here updates for elegance and darkstar will be very slow. he was the one who mostly updated these themes. its sad to see him go because he has taught me a lot and if it wasnt for his initial darkstar concept i wouldnt have gotten into themeing. hopefully he will be back sooner than we think.
@shadowch31 syaing that he 'bit off more then he chew' isnt a very fair statement to make. he chose to try and do all these things to help the community and when the community dont show appreciation they are just throwing it back in his face. im not having a go at you or anything, just thought it needed to be said.

I feel sorry about it, but I understand him, everyone who make themes/roms, would understand it too. Actually people, who never made anything, don't realize how hard is it, and how many hours we expend on it.
I also hate when people post negative comments like: "you should post concepts, or w.i.p, ...
I hope he doesn't leave forever, or even long, becuase we need him. He's one of the best, and always a good help for people like me.

I would say though, shadowch31, that from all the conversations that i've had with cache, money is not his main thing for theming. The guy has a love for theming and he seems he just has a heart to share the ideas with people. Just to clear that up. What's wrong with donations anyway? More so to him? The guy has really been revolutionary with bringing new ideas to the table, and you're right..not everyone can donate, but those who can, it never hurts to send a dev some monetary thank yous. i've done so myself when i could cuz i know the time and effort it takes to make anything, from the smallest thing to the grandest. but yeah..i was just letting you know that that's not what cache is about here.

I agree, developers can sell their software in the market, themers share it here. Donations is a good way to push creators to keep working and creating.
And I think 1$ is not a big deal for anybody here, but together, it would be a nice reward for every developer.
But it's just my opinion

yeah, this is most definitely not about money, I have a job, and that keeps me in beer and a roof over the head, in fact i was a little hesitant about adding donate links, cos i dont want people to give if they dont wana. its just about people appreciating work, also people letting us know they are still interested with what were doing, helps us know if we should continue to work on it for the comunity.

Your right the community had somwhat abandonded Darkstar besides me and my motivational nagging and Elegance was getting the same besides the odd 'Can we have...' brigade. Gonna be sad to see you go fella but it is a well deserved break and one I understand, just looking at getting into theming myself and know it ain't gonna be a walk in the park and is gonna take a lot of time and effort. Was just gutted and upset to see such an asset to the themeing community leave and for what seemed like weak excuses but now you have explained I fully understand your decision.

To this date I still haven't abandoned the last update of DS that had Stericson's lockscreen lol. In fact, I'm actually keeping the theme for quite some time since SD 1.8 is stable and fast enough.

I am in the process of developing an Android blog, whilst this may seem unneeded and a tad bit of extra competition to the many other well established blogs, I am sure that my upcoming blog will surpass all other blogs due to the content, context and a secret few features which I disclose at this current time.

As i am new here in the XDA world i don't know if this thread is legal or not but i will give it a shot, why not. I was always an apple fan boy since ipad 1, but for the past year i was having my doubts about apple. So i did my self a favor and i purchase an android device, more specifically a Samsung galaxy tab s 8.4 ( wifi only ) or aka ( SM-T700). I did a heave research before i purchased it and i realized it was the best thing under 10". ( i knew i was a getting a TW device )
After my purchase i realised i was not happy at all with the performance of the tablet and a friend suggested XDA as he is using it heavily for his own devices ( tab s, moto g 1st, kindle fire ) He was super pleased with the work of all the devs in here so i said why not, i will join.
After going through all the threads one by one, and reading every single post in them ( talking about T700 threads only ) i realized that the devs that are so effortlessly working on the ROMS and kernels they either don't have the tablet to test or they are not so motivated as they used to be, mainly because people demand things from them without giving back. I recently read in a thread a developer trying to defend his position about his ROM and another guy talking to him about the ROM and the battery life like sh**. Well if it was me i would easily ask from XDA to ban that user. After witnessing that i was like "WT* Dude"... Anw what i am trying to say here don't demand if you don't give, just wait patiently. These 3 paragraphs was only my introduction to my main point.
Since i want to thank our developers and i am talking about 3 here. The guy who makes CM11 @Barracuda77777 , the guy who makes CM12 @eousphoros and the guy who makes the kernels @UpInTheAir . I noticed that these guys are either not motivated enough cause many people don't appreciate or they either don't have the tablet to test and they are waiting for people to test therefore the ROMS come out slower.
My proposal to all of you users here and owners of the T700 version is why not collect some money and buy these guys 1 device each so they mod the hell out of it and everyone can get happier? This is not a charity for them and no they did not ask me to make this thread. I am making this thread because i want to thank them as much as possible for using their spare ours to give FREE their ROMS to all of us. How about we each tip 10-20$ to buy 3 devices and send them to the guys? It's a win-win for all. They get a nice Christmas present as a thank you from all of us and you all get better working roms with a cost of 10-20$
I am willing to collect the money for the guys, so i can get nice deals for the devices. If you are interested send me a PM and i will do my best to find the fastest shipping company in my country so i can deliver the goodies to them

Glad for you to be on Xda! I have a T800 (10.5 inch model) and yet we also have roms and kernels from the same devs in this post. They both made a rom/kernels for both models! I'm glad that we have these devs that bring life into our tablets. I dont have any money right now ( not old enough for a job) but Im willing to test roms/ kernels for the devs and report on back for the model I own. Hopefully these devs can get what they deserve. We are lucky to already have such awesome roms and kernels and some other tablets do not even have cm11 yet. Glad that you made this post! It could help the devs get what they deserve because of what they have done to our devices and gave life to them. ?
It's not always about money or motivation or ungrateful end user.
For me, it's also about time. I have a job that involves traveling away and a family. These things are most important to me.
I already support devices i can't personally test and help with guidance here and there.
There's just not enough time in the day to do more as i have other device I'm developing for.
If anyone wishes to donate, please donate to your favorite recognized charity or XDA for hosting these forums. Without XDA we would have next to nothing.

No bad intent ment here at all...but - Sporbillis, you're a brand new member to XDA. I would think there would be trust issues about sending money to ANYONE let alone a new member just popping up and collecting money. So don't feel like the folks here aren't responding because they're freeloaders....it's just too easy to get ripped off....

Yea i get that, if i was going to ripoff people i wouldn't get into the fuss of joining xda and specifically the T700 owners. i would go join some other device with much more audience. anw.
I hear the frustration. Personally, I like to see ROMs from someone who is so passionate and motivated about the device that they went out and bought one, is willing to trip the Knox counter, void warranty and possibly brick the device. That person, I hope, would love the device enough to continue with development when most everyone else has moved on to the next latest and greatest device (DanielHK for the Samsung p6800, for example). In addition, the developer has to be thick-skinned enough to read complaints (both constructive and destructive) and deal with widely varying age groups that have different levels of expectations. Even so, for non-programmer types there is much that can be done via modification of the stock ROM, remove bloat, remove Knox, write to sdcard mod, etc. There is a bit of a learning curve.
What is it about the T700 performance that is unsatisfying? Perhaps there is already a solution. New launchers can be easily installed (Nova, for example). Developer options can tweak some limited performance issues. There are build prop and .xml mods also (requires root).

In addition, the developer has to be thick-skinned enough to read complaints (both constructive and destructive) and deal with widely varying age groups that have different levels of expectations. Even so, for non-programmer types there is much that can be done via modification of the stock ROM, remove bloat, remove Knox, write to sdcard mod, etc. There is a bit of a learning curve.
What is it about the T700 performance that is unsatisfying? Perhaps there is already a solution. New launchers can be easily installed (Nova, for example). Developer options can tweak some limited performance issues. There are build prop and .xml mods also (requires root).

It fits because one of the developers noted in the original post replied and explained his reasons as to why he (probably) will not participate. He suggested that the donated money go elsewhere. Keep in mind that giving developers a tablet is not, necessarily, "giving back" -- for the developer it is also proposing that they work. Does the request propose giving the developers a tablet with no expectations of a ROM ever being developed for the device and not bothering them if a ROM is not forthcoming? If so, that proposal might be considered "giving back". Otherwise, the proposal is just reducing the material/monetary overhead for the developer but not reducing (or funding) the workload.
If a ROM is required, offer up a substantial bounty worth the developer's time and effort along with the materials -- then there *may* be some takers. That offer might make developers happy. Given the lack of responses at this time it appears that the offer as it stands (funded mainly by others) is not enough.

Now i get your point and you are right. The only purpose of this thread was to help those developers who are developing the rom and struggling without a tablet to actually have a tablet to test but most importantly for us to Say "THANK YOU" to them by giving them the tablet. If they want to work more or less after getting the tablet is their business. I was just kind enough to think about starting this thread. About upintheair i get where he comes from " NO TIME AVAILABLE " and i appreciate his honesty. Even though he has a tablet. The money portion of the thread collected can be given to him if he has a tablet and again as a thank you not as a "please work more"

I would like to start my journey with the xda-developer community by letting everyone know somethings about myself. I suffer from a severe mental health disorder that restricts my ability to keep a stable job, but I have always done the best I could to appear as normal as everyone I know. Technology is about the only thing that came me down and give me purpose in life, so I spend most of my time trying to absorb everything I can learn on the subject. I do have my episodes where I can't control my issues, but I promise I will do everything I can to not cause any disturbances or problems while I'm a member of this community. If anyone feels that a comment or post I've made seems a little of or strange, please let me know right away so that it might give me a heads up if I'm about to have an episode. And if you feel it is easy to off I definitely want you to contact whoever you must for whatever reason. The only way I will ever be able to enjoy doing what I love, is by getting it here and being a part of the communities that share my save passion. I want to thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding, and for the chance to develope not only technology, but my own skills at being a part of something greater than my mental health problems.
