I have a strange problem. When I receive a call from people stored in phone Contacts sometimes I can see the name who is calling, many times there is only phone number and no name!? All those calls are from people stored in Contacts.
All contacts was stored to the phonebook at one time by sync with my Gmail.
I look and tried everything in Options but I still have no solution.
I even tried to erase some contacts and added them back again and it s still the same.
Please help me!!!

Use other dialer (download any dialer from google store) . I had the same problem and this helped
I also had the same problem, I added the same number prefixed +44 as a secondary contact and that fixed it. And then I got a new dialer.
The problem maybe is with the duplicacy of contacts. If a no. is added twice then, no name is shown.. Also make sure contacts to display option has phone memory has phone memory selected and all contacts are also copied in phone memory & no duplicate contacts..

Go to setting -> Contact Storage : Clear Cache, Clear data
In Lenovo K3 note, "clear cache" & "clear data" are in DISABLE state in CONTACT STORAGE.
Can you tell me how to proceed further?

SOLVED !!!
I was also facing such hanging problem ! sometimes all contacts tab in WhatsApp used to load very slow!
I checked on many forums,
I had a Chat with Lenovo Support team, they suggested to do a factory reset,
I have also been to authorised service center, even they suggested to do a factory reset
But before doing a factory reset I thought to clear all data for Whatsapp (that reset my whatsapp) and since then I am not facing such issue !!
After Whatsapp reset, its about 5 days I am using my phone but no hang issue
1.
'Backup chats' from whatsapp setting
2.
Settings > apps > whatsapp > Clear Data
(this resets whatsapp, like new installation)
3.
uninstall whatsapp
4.
restart phone, and reinstall whatsapp from google play store
5.
run and sign in to whatsapp, It prompts to restore chat from backup, you can restore if you wish to (I restored)
6.
bang ! done, check yours...

My all Contacts/account SYNC is ON

I have no idea what is going on, or why it started, but I've had this issue since I got my Droid 3, and I hoped that when I got my Droid 4, it would stop...
My phone is assigning random facebook pictures to people as their caller ID picture. I will get a phone call from friend A, and it will show the picture of friend B, or some other random facebook picture.
If I assign a picture to a contact on my phone (such as one I took with the camera), if I receive a call it will show the picture correctly, however, if I dial that person it will show some other random facebook picture.
For some people, the picture comes up correctly, but for many it does not.
Certainly there is some cache somewhere I can clear to fix this, right?
If you have FB contacts syncing, the phone will try to auto pair them with your Google contacts.
Mine tries to tie my info that I have in Gmail for my alternative e-mails/numbers with my dad's fb info even though our display names are listed differently(he's in fb as Billy, and my info is under William)
If that's what's wrong to fix it, in contacts go into the contact that is messed up. Hit menu, and look for separate(under more).
Alright, so I am still having this problem, even after uninstalling the facebook apps...
I want to clear my Contacts Storage, but in Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Contacts Storage the "clear data" button is grayed out.
Any way to clear this WITHOUT doing a factory data reset?

Have you tried joining the contacts (I assume they are already joined), then setting the google profile as Default? That will make their name and photo the one you assigned to the google contact. Let me know if that works.

I have this problem that the contact name & picture does not show on my phone incoming calls, call logs etc. I have contact pictures for all my contacts in google, i can see them in the contacts , but the call logs and incoming call does not display the picture
i also notice in the call log it doesnt even show the contact name, just shows the phone number with "unsaved" written below.
when I add a contact to the PHONE contacts and not google then it shows name and picture, but my google contacts dont show. This is so strange as it worked before but suddenly now past few days it doesnt work
I have rooted the phone and used Titanium backup to disable a lot of applications after referring to the safe to remove list, I am familiar with that as i did the same on my S2 i had before.
anyone with any ideas on this please help.

Clear the Contacts and Contacts Storage data (under Applications Manager>All) and resync. that should solve it.
Failing that reboot in to recovery and clear both cache's.

I recently backed up my phone using PC companion and I'm having issues restoring my contacts.
Everything else has restored including call log and text messages (although it took several attempts), but I'm having issues with the contacts.
Strangely enough some of the number in my call log do have contact names, but none of them appear in in my contact list. it may be the case that they are already store on my sim.
The other strange thing is that when I first go to call log, all contact names will appear for a second before disappearing. I've tried this method of pulling the contacts from the backup by Johannski but in the backup there is no file called com.sonyericsson.android.contactsimport. I've tried other files that end in names like localcontact but had no joy.

Hey there, i have a rather odd problem. The contact app crashes if i select the owner entry, i.e. my own entry.
I'm running CM11, so I'm on the stock rom. Except for this small issue, everything thing is working fine.
Just for your information: The contact was working, but after an edit it just started to crash.
So, what can I do about it?

UPDATE:
After a bunch of research, i had made a forced re-sync of my contacts, delete and reboot, the problem still persists. I.e. the data over at google hast to be corrupted as well. What can i do about it? I really need that feature, because i use my own contact to share my contact data quickly to other people.
Yes i could make a new entry, but that would generate redundant data and doesn't fix the problem at all. It's just a workaround.
Sorry guys, but i have to push this thread... still not resolved!

Narrowed down to the mobile number used by the phone... i.e. if i add the number used by the phone, to any contact, the app will crash.
Hi guys, since 2 months google dialer started showing number+surname instead of name+surname when i receive a call.
Only some old contacts appears fine. I've tried to delete dialer, contact and messages data but nothing was solved.
nb. if i search for that contacts in the contacts, name were fine
Just tested on mine and its Name+Surname on the top and number underneath. So it's showing all these 3 things at once. You sure they're saved correctly and synced to your Google account?

It's due to syncing, I had a similar issue. I don't remember which syncing option I switched off but it did the trick. I also had to delete those strange names from the contact list.
