My phone is stuck on twrp after failed flashing 12.1 cyanogenmod - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I followed all the steps to flash a rom onto my s3 mini. See this picture to see the problem: http://postimg.org/image/j4invhd0v/ I can transfer files using adb, but when i boot the phone, it goes automatically to TWRP. And when i try to flash the rom, that thing in the photo happens, basically my phone is gone now... Please help, this is quite urgent.

in twrp you can also fix permissions. It's in advanced or some menu like that. Good luck!

It says failed to fix permissions.

I would try to delete as much (wipe) as possible from your phone to make it work again. Wiping doesn't remove your recovery. Or flash another recovery tar if you can get into download mode.
install odin on windows pc: http://depositfiles.com/files/m2n77b1vc
install samsung drivers on windows pc: http://developer.samsung.com/technic...000000117#none
get cyanogenmod 12.1: http://novafusion.pl/
get the odin version
when mobile powered off, hold volume down, home and power button. You get the downloadmode option on your screen, let go all buttons and press volume up button.
Now connect the phone to your pc with the usb cable and let odin find it.
Load the tar file in the downloaded zip file as pda and flash it.
If you want clockwork mod, install this as tar, also in pda flash option: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95887005526789241
If your samsung doesn't work but you can still get into download mode, view next page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2122548
and install a fail safe firmware according to your type of phone.

What I don't understand is why the flashing went wrong, I did everything right, at least I think. Wipe everything and flash the rom, why didn't it work?

[Q] Cannot boot to CWR

OK, so I'm using ICS beta 4 for the Streak, and on ROM manager it says I have CWM 3.0.2. But when I try to boot into it, I either get stock recovery or fast boot. When I click on Software upgrade via update.pkg on SD card, on the stock recovery my screen turns blank and I have to hard reset.
Can someone help me get Clockwork Recovery please? Thanks!
PS. I used NVflash to flash ICS, don't know if that helps, but Im trying to provide sufficient information.
ICS B4 comes rooted with SuperUser7 and CWM 4.0.1.4 installed. Don't think that your supposed to use a ROM manager with it. Not sure how you have another CWM version unless you installed it yourself.
Reflash again and don't use the ROM manager app.
OK, well if it came with it, why can I not boot to it. I downloaded ROM manager but never used it. Never installed and other version of CWM, and if I did install another version, wouldn't I be able to see it? I can not boot to CWM.
Thanks for your suggestion, but reflashing is last option. Does anyone else think they know what's going on?
DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER!
First off, CWR isn't working very well right now, I have a new recovery image I've created that adds some functionality to recovery but its still a work in progress.
To get into recovery mode:
1) Power off device
2) Press Power and Volume+, hold
3) You will come into the Dell recovery menu
4) Use Volume (-) to get to "Install Package" and press Power to select
5) You are now in CWR
When I tried that it lagged a second and then booted normally. I'll post a video in a bit.

Did you use ROM MANAGER and flash a recovery? If you did, recovery is hosed and you will have to fastboot flash the recovery from the B4 directory.
I did use rom manager. And where would I find it in the directory?

Look in your ICS B4 download, you'll see "recovery.img" file.
Thank you both. I finally signed up when I had my first problem, and you guys hooked me up with speedy replies. Much appreciated.

[Q] Install CM for Galaxy S i9000 stuck

Hi All,
I've tried to find the answer but cannot see one specific to what I am experiencing.
I followed the guide from wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
Semaphore's ClockworkMod Recovery was not working so I used the file from Replicant's recovery.img as per instructions at bottom of the page.
I followed the instructions. I rooted the phone, but I'm stuck. I can get into the recovery mode but I cannot mount the phone back to the PC so I can put the CM zip file onto the sdcard.
As soon as I turn on the phone, it goes into the CM Recovery menu.
Anyone know how to get the phone to mount to the PC and how I can get a CM image to the phone to install?
Thanks, please help. Need to get this phone working as I want to give it to my daughter to use in Italy.

Thanks, but I figured it out late last night. In recovery mode, there is an option to turn on USB mode. With USB on, the PC will see the phone. I downloaded the CM image (zip) to install. Put this into the root folder. Also downloaded the correct Google App as described in the link and put this into the root of the phone.
Turn off the USB. Leave phone plugged into the pc. With recovery mode, select install zip and select the CM zip file you put onto the root. This will install the CM. It will do this twice to convert the phone file system.
Phone will boot up and your in with CM. Now turn off and boot phone into recovery mode again using 3 button method. Select the Google apps zip file to install. This will install the Google Play and other software. Reboot and setup the phone!
Got the Galaxy S i9000 working again!

Flash philz kernel (.tar) from pc odin while in download mode (latest version). See if you can get into recovery, if you can, download and put the CM rom+gapps on external sd card, flash without any wipes from recovery or if you did take any nandroid backup you can restore that from philz kernel.

download philz kernel from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
download the one that says .tar instead of .zip. put the phone into download mode. Open PC odin, connect phone to pc, COM ID should light up in yellow with some number. click on PDA and choose the .tar file and click on start. once it is finished, reboot into recovery and see if it works. You can fix the counter and yellow triangle later with Triangle away application.

Is the Kernel version essential? Since Philz v5.11.2 has several Kernels you can choose from, where as you cannot check which one you have running since the phone does not boot anymore.

Philz Kernel may need a LINK here. maybe URL ?
THanks ALL ! feel that solutions are near now.
as you cannot check, you can download the one for your region, check on sammobile.com/firmwares for which one is for your region and i already gave the link to the philz kernel, i wont post the direct url for the file.

It doesn't matter which kernel you flash, you're just flashing to give you recovery and then you can flash cm and gapps. It won't boot, it's not supposed to.

Not sure I'm in the same boat...
is anyone seeing the same as I am - I also can't boot into Recovery since nightly 20130824. I can boot into Download mode... and... I can still boot into my current CM10.2 nightly (20130824)!!!
I've tried reflashing CWM using ROM Manager, even a few times... but nothing changes. Trying to get into recovery using VolUp+Home+Pwr doesn't work (after Samsung GT-N7000 white text... blackscreen (which I can see is still 'on'). If I try to boot into recovery using Rom Toolbox or similar, it behaves the same and I can only get it to reboot into the ROM once I've pulled the battery out and then put it back in and connected to a charger so the battery charging icon shows... which somehow clears the 'boot into recovery' flag somewhere.
Very concerned... saw something in the changelogs back at 20130824 about recovery fixes and wondered if this might happen. The first time I got it to boot back into the ROM something wasn't quite right with the internal/external SD mounts... all my ringtones and alerts etc. were reset to just numbers (e.g. 40125) which actually happens more often than I expect... but this time I couldn't find the ones I usually use in the selection list.
I rebooted with SD card out... then re-inserted it... and then things went back to how they should be and I could see and select my preferred tones again.
Have tried booting into Recovery via app, via hw keys... with SD card in, SD out... SIM card in... SIM out... both SD and SIM out... there's just no way into recovery.
Using ROM Manager I also tried to setup the alternative Recovery (TWRP) but that also gets stuck with the message 'ROM Manager has been set up to use your existing recovery installation'. but same behaviour when trying to boto into recovery.
I've also used Android Root Toolkit to try save/protect Root... Restore Root.. etc. but to no avail.
Any ideas... please?
EDIT: Thanks for the Odin3 / PhilZ Kernel advice - that seemed to work.
Question: Now that I've got back to recovery and updated to nightly of 20130826, did I overwrite PhilZ kernel?
yes
Yes,

Read the rom thread, fixes there

Broken volume flex

Hi everyone I have a big big problem. My volume buttons are broken, so I can'n navigate through CWM revovery. I have cm10.2 and I want to try the kiktkat ROMs. What should I do? I tried to use goo manager but after I press "flash roms" it reboots in recovery, where I can't do anything unless reboot now. Is there a way to install TWRP touch recovery? I think of installing stock jellybean with ODIN and use a custon kernel through DD command method, but I don't know how to root without using the recovery. Any other solutions? Is there a way to install TWRP directly on cyanogenmod 10.2? Why goo manager doesen't work? Rom manager do the same thing, instead of flashing my rom, it reboots in recovery. Please help me, i'm desperate. Basicaly I want to install ROMs or TWRP recovery WITHOUT USING THE VOLUME BUTTON.

I think that we do not have any CM kernel that has TWRP. And you can't install separately recovery from kernel. Maybe you can do this, install CM11 kernel - it has touch CWM. When you swipe up it goes up, when you swipe down... But you must be carefull, and to get 100% working CM11 zip in your recovery, to avoid getting a bootloop. Unpack it on PC and see if zip of it is not broken,
You can install CM11 kernel by getting it from CM11 zip, copy it to the phone and use Universal Kernel Flasher from Play store. After installing it I think that you can't go back to CM10.2 anymore, you will end up with a bootloop. So you must install CM11. And another thing, I am not sure if reboot recovery works well, you will end up with nothing if it does not. So do everything at your risk, do not blame me if you fail...
We do not have working ROM manager or similar thing.

So I should unpack the CM11 zip and flash the kernel in CM10.2 that I already have? If I will end up with bootloop how should I enter the recovery? The only way to do it is through reboot to recovery option in my rom, if I get stuck in the bootloop I will not be able to do anything. Can you explain one more time, step by step?

I can't guarantee that you can reboot to recovery, because sometimes it does not work. This process is risky... You can't go to download mode too after that.
1. Download CM11 zip, get boot.img from it
2. Install Universal Kernel Flasher and some root explorer
3. Install boot.img with Universal Kernel Flasher
4. Reboot recovery
5. Install CM11, do factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik cache...
I wouldn't try something like this with those risks, I will rather get my volume buttons fixed before trying this. I think chances to fail is greater then not to.
I understand now.. as you said is too risky. Can anyone help me with a method to get root on stock jellybean without using recovery or to use goo manager? I want so bad to try kitkat but I don't want to brick my phone in the process. Thank you Shutdown anyway for the help.

I think Goo manager is not working because it is not compatible with our device. Its developer needs to make it work with our phone. So I think there is no other method for rooting except the one we have, zip file and flashing it in recovery.
Why there isn't an odin flashable method for root as for gingerbread? I am sorry for bothering you, but you are of the most experienced dev/user of our device.. My volume flex can't be fixed unless I change the motherboard wich is far too expensive compared with the value of the phone. I also have a very unstable version of cm 10.2 (I installed it like 10 months ago) so my camera doesen't work in video and I have the in call volume bug. If I just could root stock jellybean with other method, I could use twrp and install any 4.4 ROM I want. It is frustrating because I am so close yet so far..

There is not Odin flashable root method because we got that Recovery method that is easy and does not increase binary count, and devs did not make the one for Odin. Anyway you can't go to download mode too if Volume buttons is not working. You need to press volume up to proceed...
I built a long time ago a CM10.1 kernel with TWRP recovery... CM10.2 CWM is touch recovery.
@cristinel13 Method by shut_down is perfect, but if you aren't not sure to do it do this:
I built this file for you, download it but don't extract, leave as it is
Open Odin and put that file in "PDA"
Open Terminal Emulator on your device and write first su, confirm access then write reboot download
Now your device is in download mode without need to press vol+ to confirm
Press "Start" on Odin
Let the device starts, then open again Terminal Emulator, write again su then write reboot recovery to enter in recovery. Now flash any KitKat ROM that you want

I think that you need to do factory reset... Can you use ADB? Try to delete data/data folder in root with ADB. You can use this if you need GUI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105707
You can try with delete of folder data/dalvik-cache.
P.S. I forgot that you flashed just kernel, try adb reboot recovery.

Try. Leave it sometime on that bootloop, and if it is possible it will give you adb access. Use reboot recovery command, like you did for download mode.

Oh right, kernels compiled on 4.4 can't start on 4.2-4.3... Sorry, I forgot that, do you have at least a very little knowledge about hardware? If yes, we can use a "pro" method that will 101% work to enter in recovery

[Q] bootloop in cyanogen 10.1

a few days ago i dropped my galaxy s2 in the toilet(dont laugh) so i went to using my brother's old s plus I9001.
long story short,i tried to upgrade the 2.3.3 to a 4.2.2 Jellybean using this guide : http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/4579...alaxy-s-plus-i9001-android-4.htm#.VAWoGfmSzGA
i searched a few other guides beforehand,most of which stated that i need a rooted phone,so i rooted it using a guide i found on this forum(here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001)
this is everything i did :
1. Connect the Galaxy S Plus to your computer.
2. Unrar the CM 10.1 firmware RAR file you have downloaded
3. Copy the CM 10.1 firmware you have extracted from the unrar file to the SD card of your phone.
4. Turn off the Galaxy S Plus.
5. Reboot the device into Recovery mode. Press Volume up + Home + Power keys simultaneously. You can flash this ROM using the stock recovery or a custom recovery app.
6. In the Recovery mode, select "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition."
7. Then select "install zip from SD card" and "choose zip from SD card." Search for the firmware you have copied on the device.
8. Select the firmware file and install it.
9. Go back and select "reboot system now."
so everything went well, until i tried rebooting the device.im stuck now at the cyanogenmod logo.basically i have a boot loop isue.
being a noob at these kind of things,my first thought was that my phone had bircked,so i followed an unbricking tutorialobviously,it didnt work.
can you please help me solve this bootloop s**t? :good::good:
First of all flash TWRP (Recovery).
Then download CM 10.2 from here and copy it in your internal SD card.
Boot into Recovery.
Do a Data & Cache wipe and finally flash CM 10.2.
Optionally: Flash Gapps (Google Apps)

Then download CWM Recovery and try it again.
Remember to flash TWRP after that.

but i cant get cmw recovery on my phone if i cant acces the memory :/
try using Aroma File Manager here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108 it won't install to your phone, it's a temporary file manager that you flash in recovery.
the problem is that i cant copy anything on my sd card, because my computer doesnt recognize the phone anymore after flashing twrp

Flash CWM Recovery using Odin.
Read this (How to install ODIN Version).
Download the following:
Odin
CWM Recovery
AriesVE.ops
If it still doesn't work I suggest you to go back to stock and repeat the procedure.

Make sure the Samsung USB Drivers are installed. Also uninstall/disable KIES (if it's installed).
i did that but it didnt work.i found out that the computer only recognizes my phone when it's in download mode,so i can only flash through odin.currently trying to flash cwm,but it beats me.currently trying to return to a stock rom, will post updates
