Note 5 Screen Mirroring problem - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just bought a note 5 to find there is no screen mirroring on this phone.
I have also tried to download the Samsung link app but it says it is not compatible with this phone.
Does anyone have any ideas, i only want to stream my videos to a Samsung T.V.
So far this phone has been a huge dissapointment, no external memory and now they take away something i tended to use everyday.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
CH

I used screen mirroring the day I bought it.

Well since the OP didn't say it wasn't working, I didn't feel the need to say how.
The OP said screen mirroring isn't on the device. Simply pulling down the notification shade shows the button to enable it.

Funny

If your phone is not rooted you should have no problem with screen mirroring if it's rooted you simply need to add a few words so that you can allow it to work again. It works it's there

Note 5 doesn't sees chromecast as screen mirroring device... Anyone have this issue?

You can also access screen mirroring from the Gallery by clicking share, screen mirroring is one of the options.

Pull down the notification panel and press "Edit" should be on the top right corner and it should pop up there

I don't think chromecast works with the built in screen mirroring. You have to use the chromecast app it's just as easy.

Go to About Device in Settings. Click on Status. Scroll to the bottom. If it say anything but "official" you won't be able to use a bunch of different Samsung apps that do a status check.

I had the same problem. Pull down notification bar select quick connect.

Figured I'd look into your request. First goto menu on Samsung TV, then goto network. Should then see a screen mirroring choose, select that. Then like mentioned, select screen mirroring in drop-down and Samsung TV choice should appear. In future you may just need to activate screen mirror after this initial connect. This was done from my Note 4, as well as my Note 5!
Hope this was helpful.

I'm having trouble connecting the screening mirroring with my tv...I have the Samsung all share hub...help!

hey . ive rooted my phone and in the status it doesnt say official but custom .. ofcourse cos its rooted
now what steps do i need to go through to enable screen mirrorring ?
thanks

My N920T is rooted so of course Status says Custom. Screen mirroring works perfectly fine for me with an Amazon Fire TV.

Ok on my non rooted note 5 on sprint the instructions about going to the settings and edit and select screen mirroring d9nt workwork, as it's there. To enable it take a picture go to the album select the picture, hit share, at the bottom click screen mirroring. Way to go Samsung and sprint.

Thank you for that tip! I just upgraded from a Note 4 (SM-910T) to the Note 5 (SM-920I) and lost the menu option for screen mirroring. Your instructions worked perfectly. Annoying that we have to do that, but glad that the functionality is still there.

I found a tricky way to mirror video from Note5 to tv.
Pick any picture from your gallery.
At the bottom , there is a pop- up screen , choose share option.
Then choose mirroring option. Then your phone will look for tv or devices that you want to connect. After you choose that tv or device. Your phone will hook up and everything that shows on note5 includeing video will show on tv.

Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter
My Note 5 with Lolipop 5.1.1 doesn't work with my Microsoft Wirless Display Adapter...it sees it and tries to connect but never does it. My Note 3 on Kitkat 4.4.2 works better than anything I have every seen with this adapter, there is almost no lag! (unlike with Chromecast) I read that Lolipop broke a lot of phone's Screen Mirroring capabilities. Anyone know why or how to fix it yet?

Enable tethering blindly

My SGN display was broken including the LCD, hence i'm not able to see anything. I'd like to access and control the device from my PC, what is the best app for this?
My main goal right now is to enable tethering. The touch still works, so i'm confident it can be done.
In the interim, could someone take screenshots of each step from the home screen to enable tethering and post them for me?
I'm going to try and enable it blindly.
Thanks in advance.
The device is a N7000 running stock ICS.
I had a similar problem...

I won't say it's easy but if you are on a Samsung based ROM you might have a chance. (Obviously you'll need to buy a MHL cable though.)
Alternatively, if you've got USB Debugging turned on then you might be able to use Droid Explorer which includes a remote control add-on.
Yes, mhl cable +hdmi is the best chance

I don't have one of those cables right now, and i really need to enable tethering. Could someone please post the screen shots? I don't think it will be that hard, i just need to see the position of the options on the screen

Hit Home
Swipe to Unlock
Hit Menu
Hit approx 1cm above menu button (You're now in Settings)
Hit roughly the middle of the screen (on the left hand side - its just easier on the side) "More"
Hit approximately 1cm down from the middle of the screen - "Tethering....."
Press approximately 1 inch down from the Samsung logo.. - "USB Tethering"
Good luck...
Thanks a million.
Haven't gotten it done yet, but i feel much closer.
Trying to get to settings from swiping down from the top of the screen as i'm not familiar with the other method.

Assuming you have swipe to Unlock
Just lock the screen with the power button - Press power button again then;
Swipe anywhere to unlock
and then press the Menu key..
The Settings option is about 1 cm or so above the Menu key
Lol, i just figured out what the menu key is. I must admit it wasn't a key i used alot.
Something else i just found out, the bottom 1/4 of the screen, touch doesn't work.
I'm starting to lose hope of getting this done.
Could you swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification screen, there is a settings link there, thats where i'm use to getting to the settings from. I think with a screen shot of that i'll be able to get it done.
Got it done. Found a pic on the internet of the screen i was talking about. Would still like a proper pic. :good:

Any chance you have AirDroid installed? It has a live view (screenshot) in pc browser ability built in, it can help if you don't have an MHL adapter.
If not, force an install from accessing play store from pc.

[Q] Jellybean "computer" is very disapointing

I had the 'great idea' to hook a monitor, keyboard and mouse to my Atrix HD and use it as a PC (to save $70 month on internet) Problem is, it's HORRIBLE. It goes into some kind of 'Dock' mode, and you can only have 4 icons. Flash player doesn't work in Chrome or Browser, so you have to launch youtube videos in a new window. Plus, all these ****ing "mobile" websites that everyone loves suck, and I can't figure out how to change Chromes user-agent header.
I bought this cable: shop dot teamblackhat dot info Cables_c4.htm
Think I'm going to try and root it and get the wifi hotspot to work.
Does anyone know if there is a way to keep the 'Dock' mode from showing up? It's worse than just the normal phone (which wouldn't be bad)
Forget chrome bro, its oversimplified garbage. With stock browser you only have to set desktop mode once every time you open it, with chome its everytime you open a website + everytime you open the browser.
Also, chrome doesnt have plugin support, you need this flash, and it will work in default browser: Adobe_Flash_Player_11.1.115.17.apk
When the dock notification comes, you should chose charge only so it doesnt switch to clock mode. BTW JB is **** with hdmi, google messed it up.

thanks but none of the settings solved the screwed up display on a lapdock.
But I can't see how it's still ok mirroring to the 2 TVs we have at home.

Seems like they only support 720p and 1080p resolution now...
atrix hd does not support webtop like other motos, so it will only look like a big android screen just like the phone. no tablet mode or anything like that.

I didn't see any reference to webtop. we all asked for true 720p display on the lapdocks.

if it support 720p, we would get a very small black band around the display (as if you plug any other hdmi capable device in the lapdock (like a blue-ray player))
there's something wrong like if they targeted the lapdock on purpose.

I haven't received mine to be able to say but did read Clove's blog:
Update via phone
From page 14 of the user manual below:
Tap Update when a window appears on your Android™ device asking you to update your SmartWatch 2 to the latest software version
Support website
From the Home Screen on your SmartWatch 2, find and tap [settings icon]
Find and tap Support > Support site. The support website is opened on your Android™ device
SmartWatch 2 start up guide
View and download the Sony SmartWatch 2 start up guide below:
Not sure if this helps or not. If you go to clovedotcodotuk (replace dot with .) and click on news you will find the correct blog for this for the remaining instructions.
Thanks for the manual the problem is I cant even access the home menu.when I tap the home button the screen goes blank and then go back to the clock like its in a loop...

Screen mirroring not working

Is anyone else having issues with Screen mirroring on the Tab S2?
It will recognise my Roku3 and try to connect, then fail to connect. I then get a toast message on the screen "UNABLE TO START SCREEN MIORRORING BECAUSE OF A HARDWARE ISSUE". Issue isn't with the Roku, Screen Mirroring works fine with my HTC M8 and Tab4. This issue was present prior to rootng.
I have this problem to.No problem with my galaxy s6.

This works, it fixed the SM on this tablet. Edit your build.prop file (system-buildprop) using a root file manager and add this line at the bottom without the quotation marks "wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable", save the file and reboot the tablet. PS you need root for this fix.

Drop down menu press edit and a "Screen Mirror" icon should be available
I've not been able to get the "Screen Mirror" icon to work either with any of my devices (a Raspberry Pi running Kodi, a Sumvision Cyclone Micro 4 or an iPush HDMI dongle) but what has worked with all three is by using the "Quick Connect" function that you can activate just below the quick settings panel, and then selecting the relevant device on the same network.
You then either get options for mirroring or streaming movies/audio/pictures to the device, depending on what they allow (the Sumvision can support mirroring via Miracast receiver mode, the other two only stream although not an issue in my case as it was basically playing a movie on the TV that I was after doing anyway).

Always on display

Hi
I recently saw the MWC event for the unpacking of the S7 and G5. These devices comes with a feature call always on display. Samsung said theie not going to release it to other phones so you can buy their latest flashship. I have the note 5 and I like the sound of having the screen always on so I don't turn on my phone. Specially it's a amoled screen meaning if it had the feature it won't use all the pixels. I try to search online and on the play store for a app but there wasn't a app that didn't use all the pixels or was appropriate for amoled screen. So my question is if there is any way to developed this features for the note 5?
Hi yes
Please port from s7 always-on display feature for note 5

Try AC display from the play store. Great app!
I have installed the official Always On Display APK downloaded from APKMirror. The option to enable the feature appears inside Display configurations but it forcecloses when you tap to enter inside it. At least the system is recognizing the feature, will it be implemented as soon as 7.0 arrives? Maybe.

Same here, the AOD framework is missing I believe and/or a non-edge display is detected.
It mentioned something about persmission when I tried to launch. So I set it up as a system app with correct permissions but no luck.
Many Note 7 ports also have issues with the AOD which leads me to think hardware detection is at work.

moderator please feel free to move this to correct section thank you

well i can i went to the internet and typed in samsung aod apk and downloaded 1.7.3.4 and when in google play and downloaded fx files explorer with the root add on for it then went into sysyem root found priv app the aodservice and deleted everything that was in folder and copied my new aod in then added a second copy of it as well i named one AODService.apk and named the second one AODService.apk.bak and set both security permissions to 644
and taa daa it works you can go to settings turn it on open it up change clocks etc and even see it on the lock screen know but the problem is that its very dim hard to see it

Try the 'Always on Amoled', from Google play, which uses your Amoled display too!
I'm using it for about a year with no problems!
