Android 5.1.1 OTA for ZR is rolling! - Sony Xperia ZR

Just got the news here: http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/09/0...olling-to-older-xperia-z-series-10-7-a-0-222/
It seems only for C5503 now. Anyone got update yet?

Can i flash it on my C5502 without serious problems?

Damn. It's only for C5503. Is there any possibilities that it will release for C5502?

Yes, it will be released for C5502 as well. It might be soon or you might even have to wait for a few weeks.

Are you sure? If I can, I could flash the C5503 ftf file to my C5502 without problems? And I could flash it using flashtool with locked bootloader, can I? And one more question, will it remove all internal memory?

I am sure about flashing C5503 rom on C5502 device because i am using it myself.
To flash custom recovery bootloader should be unlocked as far as i know but this is an official rom so i dont know. It may work without unlocking. (You dont recieve official OTA updates with unlocked bootloader thats the only harm, if you end up unlocking remember to backup TA files)
If you are on stock you can try flashing it without wiping internal memory but it is recommended to wipe it as not wiping may end up with problems like some apps not working.
Good Luck! :good:
PS- I am also a newb, you can search again and verify this information though i think it os correct.

Yes move to SD is available in Lollipop ROM

4.3 has been very stable for me, and I've been using it for the longest time, unwilling to update to KK even. However, now, I'm thinking of updating to 5.1.1, but I keep hearing a voice in my head saying "if it ain't broke..." It's just that the lure of moving apps to SD is strong, especially since the ZR only has around 4.5GB of usable space. I'm also unwilling to lose my progress in some of my games, so I'd like to update but I don't want to wipe/reset to factory default. Which means the update might make my phone unstable and laggy. I'm just so torn about this.

A carefully planned upgrade with app data backup should be hassle free.

I've now updated to 5.1.1 (without wiping my data) and everything went through without a hitch! I'm liking it so far . Sadly, it looks like this is the last update for my beloved ZR, as it probably won't get Marshmallow anymore.

yep, but this method still makes internal full because not all files moved to SD.
i recommend link2sd or foldermount
root required of course

Sorry for wasting you time man. I know it is very frustrating not to get your device rooted. But it worked for me. I'll just try to do this again and let you know. Hope I'll not loose my root (fingers crossed).

Yeah it works great, I have tried it too but it comes with a cost of loosing some stock apps, installed apps and data. Wouldn't it be great if we can just do the OTA update without having to loose anything and also keep root?
Thanks for trying again, I'm starting to think that it's my phone or region's problem. I tried a lot of different methods but none worked.
Sad case for me...

Hmm, it turns out to be like this.
Once you are on 14.1.G.1.534,
1. Root it with VROOT, Install Super Su Pro, update binaries and enable survival mode*.
2. Reboot and unroot using VROOT and reroot then update Super Su binaries.
3. Repeat Step 2 twice.
4. Now try to do the OTA update.
Let please let me know if this didn't work. Thanks and good luck.
Save this attachment in your sd card in a folder with name romsu.

[Q] Can't write on system after root- Kitkat Xperia Z1- no permission

Hi everyone,
I know my title just explained everything
but i will explain in details now here
i bought an Xperia Z1 after burning my Xperia Z because of over heating it.
anyway
all what i wanted to do is rooting my Xperia Z WITHOUT installing another firmware UNLESS there's a way to not lose my data.
i guess what i have not is a half root, i have SuperSU installed
CWM installed BUT i can't access it. i only access it by flashing it again from the PC, its like one time use only :silly:
anyway i installed supersu and rooted the device
root checker says congratulations you have root access
busybox says install was not successful try another path AND i tried another path which leaded me to the same result
the problem is
I DON'T HAVE THE WRITE PERMISSION IN THE SYSTEM!!!
HELP?!
KitKat 4.4.2 Xperia Z1 LTE - 14.3.A.0.757

Hello.
I was experiencing the same problem after rooting 14.3.A.0.757 on my Xperia Z1. I searched the forums and found that the problem is due to Sony's RIC service. Correct me if I am wrong. Updating to the latest XZDualRecovery will solve the problem.
This is what I did: (I am assuming you have a working rooted 14.3.A.0.757)
Download the latest flashable zip from NUT's XZDualRecovery thread in Cross-Device Development and flash it via recovery. You have now upgraded your recovery to the latest version. Now you can mount system partition with r/w.

[Q] D5803 lollipop to D5833 region

I want to try the lollipop that everyone loses their mind with so is it okay to flash d5803 firmware to d5833 phone? Is there a very simple guide here that explains everything? And when I flashed that d5803 firmware will I lose my keys?
Also, if I dont like the lollipop, can I flash back to d5833 kitkat firmware?
Thank you guys! I dont have any knowledge about this flashing things so I wanna ask you guys first.
I'm no pro and not sure if folks will answer without telling you to search. But I'm almost sure this is a surefire way to brick your phone. Differences between radios and stuff will have a significant impact on your device functionality. Talking from experience of flashing a lot of roms, not a dev by any means.

With your experience in flashing a lot of roms, I can reflash back to kitkat( d5833 firmware) from my bricked phone right?

Also you can flash back to 5833 kitkat firmware but it has to be a clean flash (must wipe data).

Been out of the flashing world for some time now, as i need my phone for work and can't risk a bricked phone for even a day. Do we still have to worry about losing Sony licenses for the camera and bravia engines from unlocking the bootloader? Forgive me, i can't remember all of the terms. Do we need top unlock the bootloader to boot still?

NaminatoR1254jaime.sier said:
Yeah, I did flash it.
I used xperifirm to download a Generic Latinamerican Firmware, because Im from Chile, and I use carrier Movistar, and their firmware is soooooo old, is the number version you use to root the z3c (the one finishing in .93)
After that, I used flashtool (I used 0.9.18.3) and built the firmware, but left cust-reset.ta and the other reset.ta out of it.
Finally, with the same flashtool I flashed everything, except baseband and in wipe I unticked data.
Took a long while to flash and a longer to boot (optimizing apps blabla) but it runs great.
EDIT: Working with it a little more, the only thing I dont have working is the led notifications.
EDIT2: Yes I do. Turns out I love to use the phone in silent mode...but silent mode [and priority mode] disables led notifications (even if they are in fact enabled in settings). So I have to use "sound mode" and vibration.

Usually when you downgrade from a newer firmware (this is from experience) without wiping data there will be an unlimited wave of error messages popping up. so yes if you want to go back to KitKat wipe data as well - you can make a backup of data using TWRP then restore only the data (that worked for me a few times)
And yes that guid looks good - although you can just download the .ftf file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706 Just makes the process a bit easier

Yes it's the best guide. go for it! When you flash back to kit kat you have to wipe data. But when you upgrade to lollipop from kitkat you don't necessarily have to wipe data. Have fun
And like he said, just grab the ftf from that link. That will save you the trouble of going through the xperifirm steps. Just follow the flashtool steps. I am with Nordic (5803) version on my 5833 phone since a week ago. No problems so far, i am just not using 4G (where the most differences are assumed to be).
The only issue I had, was the battery drain in the first hours after I've flashed. Then i just restarted the phone, and since then, no problems.

I'm using the Baltic D5803 Lollipop update on my Australian D5833. No issues or noticeable change in radio connectivity, I'd say flash away.
Seems 100% cross compatible with D5833. No idea why some users are suggesting it will soft brick or otherwise harm your device.

Your System Apps use high amount of RAM and they even clear user apps memory to do so. This is called memory leak.
You can i guess, since you have used Xposed, I would say flash any pre rooted 5.1 Zip

This might be stupid question but did you move them like going into App info -> move to SD or have you partitioned your SD-card to ext4 and FAT32 partitions and moved apps to ext4 partition. Or did you do it some other way?

Yeah that is the native way. I think it doesn't move whole app only some parts(very small parts). If you want to move whole app to SD-card you'll need rooted device and SD-card with 2 partitions (ext4 and FAT32).

Maybe I can help(atleast I can try)
Which model you have? (Che2 or some other)
Which android version do you have?
Do you have unloked bootloader?
****If yes to last one****
Have you been able to flash any custom recovery?

sometime back i unblocked bootloader and changed Rom then faced so many issues with 4G network so i rolled back it, now bootloader is blocked. if is there any other way to move whole app using third party app? then let me know. I don't want to unblock bootloader again cause don't have time to handle issues after rooting.

You must be rooted to move whole apps to SD-card. Btw which rom you changed to?
Also if you just think what you are doing and have a backup, rooting shouldn't cause any problems on stock firmware.
(Well, some apps have been made so that they won't work if device is rooted)
This is weired behaviour on 4X and reported by many users. Haven't came across solutions yet
This is one of the reason i am still with KK and haven't updated my phone even once.

Nah, sorry root is only method I think. (There is also adopted storage for android 6.0, but you might still need root make it available).
Also I guess you have Qualcom snapdragon version, so I probably couldn't help anyway. (But all things should work better on snapdragon version than on kirin 620 version).

yes it's Qualcom see the attachment.
I'm assuming that you have che1-l04 variant. Upgrade to marshmallow or rooting your phone only will do the job. I was also frustrated with low storage so I switched to custom roms and now using SD as internal storage, marshmallow's adoptable storage was good but still I wasn't able to install more than 45-50 apps(system apps aren't included).
you are right i'm using che1-L04 with marshmallow. i can root it but don't wanna switch the rom

Thats sad brother. but seeing the post was started in June. We may have few roms which support 4G now. atleast MM based ROMs should have this for sure.

I understand there must be more ROMs but i don't wanna take risk again. As you know it takes too much time to manage new Rom and it's not possible there will be no bugs after installing MM based rom.
