wifi settings file, weird - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I updated to 5.1.1. using prerooted flash and all worked fine except I lost all my wifi passwords, I did a twrp backup of 5.0 before doing the update
so I have looked and found where wifi passwords are stored (/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf) but when I look for this file I get to /data/misc/ but there is no wifi folder there either on the phone or in the twrp backup I did before updating
I know I am probably doing something stupid like looking in the wrong place but it seems fairly simple
root folder /data/misc/wifi/ what am I missing, does the xperia do this differently to other devices ? I have one stored password on the phone already and have used a password display app from the PS and it is able to find the details so why can't I

@Geoffxx
I've lost my WiFi passwords many many times but not anymore. Link in my sig - end of Post #3.

[Q] No SIM-card found

Hey all!
So my problem is that my SGS can't find any SIM cards...
First of all i got 2.1 android and then i updated to 2.2 version:I9000NEJP2
After that it seemed that my SGS was really slow, so i decided to use CFW.
I installed Darky's v.8.0
Everything worked fine, was really fast.
The next step was to unlock the simlock. First i tried SGS Unlock freeware.
I watched some vids and read some threads and the most of em said or wrote that this app worked fine. I tried it but the app couldn't find any codes on the phone.
After that i decided to try the PC version. I downloaded "Generate Unlock Windows" but this doesn't work for me too. No keys were shown in the box -.- .
So i tried it sometimes, and the result was, that i couldn't use my SGS any more.
Can't find the sim. I tried several times, nothing worked.
Then i downgraded my fw to I900XXJP2 once more, but useless...
does anybode have an unfreeze code, or does anybody know how i could solve that prob?
maybe unlock-code?
and if yes, where could i get this the best way?
Simlock is [3; Austria]
IMEI (still the original one): 354795/04/228598/8
thanks for any kind of help
maybe i'll sound a little bit nooby, but i'm new in that forum and also a new android user
thx
This may or may not solve your problem but some people have found that their SIM card seems to stop working after they have changed their product code. The fix for this is to run the following commands from ADB (you need to be rooted with SU installed):
- adb shell
- su
- busybox chown 1001:1001 /efs/nv_data.bin
- reboot
Or if you have a Terminal Emulator on your phone you can do the following:
-su
-chown 1001:1001 /efs/nv_data.bin
-reboot
AFAIK it can't do any harm running this file ownership command on nv_data.bin even is it isn't the cause of thr problem so give it a try, I hope it helps!
so first of all i got to tell u, that i've never used ADB before, and i do not know what that is and how i can start that
i started to google it but after reading several pages i'm do not know more...
could you pls tell me how i can start and type that?
and also where i can find it?
thx
didnt work
I tried the one with the terminal emulator..
did everything like u wrote, reboot...
nothing happened
seems that i ruined something -.-
maybe an other idea how i could solve that prob?
additional information: i got a little simcard symbol at the top of the screen and next to it there is a callsign
try nav_data.bin copy to your pc and run sgux from cmd or post it here

in market download super manager also install busybox if you don't have
run super manager>settings>select busybox file
then select /system/xbin/busybox
and select enable ROOT function
after that run file explorer in super manager and go back till first folder isn't acct and 2nd cache folder; now scroll to efs and copy nv_data.bin to sdcard
after that you can unclick enable root function in settings of user manager

Not sure but try this. delete files I send you in elf folder and copy these 2 files from zip and then reboot phone and see with code is network lock on or off and if it doesn't work then delete files from elf folder (ones I send you) and copy orginal nv_data.bin back; then reboot phone and with code see network unlock
and please post back for all situations. Also try booting phone without any sim in it and then with sim
when enter code if no locks are there then it should be everything like in picture

OK this is last shot. If nothing worked before try these 2 files from zip on phone and post back; and before coping them delete old ones and also can you post your nv.log from efs folder?
Tried everyone of your solutions and in every case i could NOT see the [ON] or [OFF].
It seems like it disappeard. Only space left, no symbols, nothing.
And the card can't be found too.
ups sorry forgot to attach 2 files. If this doesn't work I don't know what will. then put back orginal file in efs folder.
Also if you know someone who has also sgs still locked to your network copy his files here (complete efs folder)
all files I posted are modified and worked without problem on my sgs. Also please post nv.log from you efs folder here

[Q] how to restore whatsapp conversation? (I have all the needed files)

I have done factory reset and deleted all the files. before doing that, I did copied ALL the whatsapp folder from SGS1 to my computer.

how can I restore all the conversations I had? what 2 do?

Hi! I just now finished doing this same thing...
Its pretty simple:
Just copy all the whatsapp folder to the internal SDcard and re install the app.
After you put your phone number and name, it will say it found backup file and ask you if you will like to restore all that.
Just press yes
And you got everything back to normal

I think the way told by #6 must have worked. It works for me, at least.
Well, put the backup files in the same position of SD card and the app will ask if you want to restore the history on your phone.
But, next time, try the normal way to backup and recover your whatsapp messages on the SGS1. Actually, WhatsApp has the options in Settings. You can even back them up via email.

Help.. phone bricked, deleted /carrier applications

I was trying to cleanup carrier bloatware off my phone and I think I deleted some apps that were critical.
I deleted ItsOnService.apk (NetworkSystemProvider) and ItsOnUID.apk. Unfortunately I didn't make a backup of them. Then, wifi and LTE/3g stopped working (even if Wifi is connected, internet is permanently not available).
The worst part of this is that the issue persists after reflashing back to stock. The problem is I don't think the stock roms contain the /carrier directory. And now I cannot complete the setup wizard because at first boot, I'm forced to select a wifi network and once I connect internet is not available, so the wizard won't proceed.
Is there anything I can do? If someone were to send me the missing APKs could I use recovery mode and sideload them?

I do have the rooted image, as well as the stock image, I have applied both, the problem still exists. I think when I reroot or reflash it's not writing the /carrier directory, that must have come from somewhere else. I confirmed this by unpacking the TOT file and looking inside, it has all the apps, but it does not have the /carrier directory. Do you have ItsOnService.apk and ItsOnUID.apk? Maybe I could try sideloading them?

You need to know exactly what you deleted. The itsonuid is in the system/priv-app directory. I didn't see the itsonservice but didn't spend much time looking. You need to know if you deleted things out of carrier partition or vendor partition or both... Get a list together...

Thanks, I can confirm what you're saying, I did find ItsOnUID in system/priv-app, so at least I can restore that one. However, I am pretty sure ItsOnService is in /carrier and I deleted it using ES File Explorer. I had deleted ItsOnUID with Titanium Backup. Titanium Backup was not able to find ItsOnService, so that's why I had used ES File Explorer, which confirms that ItsOnService must have been in /carrier.
Since it looks like there is no /carrier directory in these TOT files, is there some other way I can get ItsOnService.apk? Can anyone out there send it to me?

If someone share WiFi via Bluetooth it connects perfectly, but it doesn't turn the WiFi on.
Someone know if it may be a software issue and somehow to fix it?

Well, after some research I still couldn't figure out which is my new device's problem.
Guess it's efs (I don't even know what does it means) corrupted, which only the official Motorola may repair (wtf).
Also, many users can't connect Bluetooth and WiFi. My problem is with WiFi only. My Bluetooth is okay and I can connect to a WiFi if I use another device, connect it to WiFi and tether via Bluetooth.
Still looking for a solution if someone has a suggestion.

hey,
I just extracted the archive and the files are all here...
Not sure why you end up with 0 bytes files... Anyway, once you'll manage to extract them properly, reboot to twrp and backup your own EFS first:
If you boot to twrp for the first time, swipe to allow system modifications. Select backup > Choose EFS only > Swipe to backup...
Now, while in twrp, connect your phone to your computer, open internal storage on your phone > twrp > Backup the "backup" folder on your computer
Now go in backup > Serial number > Date of backup > Delete all files here and replace them with mines...
Go back to home > restore > select the folder which you used to backup your EFS (which you replaced with my EFS) > Swipe to restore...
You just restored the EFS partition...

Lost Data Files After Update

if you have backups made the check the settings menu or use the search to look for backup restore
Thanks for the replies. I think I know the problem. I found one of the back-ups on OneDrive. It restored all programs and settings. It did not restore data files. I believe that is because they were not backed up, my bad. I can't seem to find a back-up on Google, so I must not have done that. At least I didn't lose anything critical, just a lot of shortcuts and websites I bookmarked.

oh right, I understand you more clearly now. I don't think you can backup app data in such a way. the only method that can do this without root is by ADB which has to be done one app at a time. some apps can be backed up by copying there folders from /storage/emulated/0/Android/data or /Android/media but even then that might not be everything you need for a full backup.
any folders apps create outside of the Android folder can be copied to external memory and copied back later. I have to do this to guarantee that my messaging apps will have all the media I've previously downloaded.
I downloaded a program called GoodLock which saves the items on your home screen and supposedly back them up. I don't know if that just means the icons or it backs up the data. I hope I never have to find out
