Vodafone SmartPass NFC & Wallet on ROOTED Samsung [UK] Tested on G900F - Galaxy S 5 General

The Dilemma: Apps wont function on Rooted device, running the application on non-Vodafone firmware won’t work, can’t install Xposed on stock Vodafone firmware.
After about a week of tinkering around I've managed to get this working on my rooted device with custom kernel and xposed installed.
The biggest issue is that there really isn’t really any concise information on the subject so everything was pretty much experimental for me.
Initially I tried using Phoenix S5 Touchwiz Rom, which is built from the latest Samsung firmware for S5, this didn’t work as the SmartPass application kept prompting me to update to the latest firmware although I already was on the latest version available to Vodafone S5's, conclusion is that it’s because it was built from the unbranded FW and not VOD FW.
Things you need:
- Vodafone Branded (SmartPass supported) Phone Apparently (I actually doubt that branding matters because Vodafone don’t supply branded Samsung’s, I believe it’s just the VOD FW that counts)
- Vodafone NFC Enabled SIMcard (You can swap for one in store - It has a little nfc logo on the simcard and its basically a sim that allows the storage of your smartpass credit card details and is used to authenticate the transactions using in-built NFC)
- Be on Vodafone's new billing system (I believe that everybody is now but you can confirm over the phone with Vodafone)
- Latest Stock Vodafone Firmware (I used G900FXXU1BOE2_G900FVFR1BOE2_VOD from Sammobile)
- Latest Odin
- Latest Custom Recovery Odin flashable (I used TWRP)
- Latest SU Binary flashable ZIP
- Selinux Permissive kernel Flashable Zip (I used Boeffla-Kernel for Samsung Stock Android 5.0 Lollipop for G900F)
- Latest Xposed flashable zip for arm7
- Android SDK for ADB
- Samsung usb drivers for S5
- JoelDroid Lollipop Batch Deodexer V 2.4 (2.4 is very important, it doesn’t seem to work on 2.5 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/and.../script-app-joeldroid-lollipop-batch-t2980857)

Unfortunately I'm a very busy guy so I can’t make this guide too comprehensive, it should be easy enough to understand but I recommend not attempting it if you are really unsure of anything.
Please Note that I offer no guarantees and you follow this at your own risk!!!
The Steps:
Official Bit...
1) Use Odin to flash the Stock VOD Firmware you downloaded
2) Boot up and install all the updates and download the Vodafone SmartPass and Wallet Apps
3) Follow the in-app instructions to configure the wallet and smartpass, it should detect your NFC secured simcard and automatically configure. You may need to sign up if you have not already.
4) Ensure you have SmartPass and Wallet working and test it at a pay terminal - if you have any issues during setup you should call the SmartPass team using the phone number in the app.
If your payment gets declined phone the SmartPass team to make sure your NFC chip is activated on the wallet.
5) If you wish to use it on the London Underground or busses you have to login to your Oyster Account online and add the Smartpass virtual card details to your Oyster account as a contactless card, otherwise it’s not authorised and you will get a Red-Light
On to rooting... [Knox will be tripped here]
6) Flash Custom Recovery using Odin
7) Run a Nandroid Backup
8) Flash your permissive kernel in recovery
9) Flash your su binary in recovery
10) Boot device (DONT open Vodafone apps from this point)
11) Enable USB Debugging in developer options and follow the guide listed above for DeOdexing your rom (Remember to only use v2.4)
12) Transfer the flashable ZIP of your deodexed apps you made over to your device
13) Reboot into recovery and flash the Deodexed apps ZIP file then clear Dalvik and cache
14) Perform 1 Boot up - May take a long time to boot
15) Another Backup if you wish might be good at this point
16) Reboot into Recovery and flash Xposed
17) Boot up and install both Xprivacy & Rootcloak Lollipop versions (you may need to enable test versions in settings before you will see them in the download list)
18) Enable both modules and reboot to activate them
19) Add Vodafone SmartPass & Wallet to the Rootcloak list
20) In Xprivacy you need to be very specific with what you deny - See below for details
Xprivacy Configuration
SmartPass App under Shell you must deny only 'exec' & 'su'
Wallet App under Shell you must deny only 'su'
21) Launch the smartpass app and check that it still opens up correctly, displays the NFC symbol and allows you to open the wallet and displays the balance and transaction history.
22) That’s it!
If you get any errors or warnings in the app or if you can’t open the wallet portion, then make sure your xprivacy settings are exactly correct as per above and then delete data for both SmartPass and Wallet apps or even reinstall them as you probably opened them before you finished the process.
Also enjoy your Rooted, Deodexed, Selinux Permissive Stock Vodafone Rom.
I hope this helps anyone experiencing issue with these apps as it was a proper ball ache for me.

Schiziodd's ROM flavors for HTC desire

in the subsequent posts below, you will find all the info you need for not only the device but the ROMs I have had my hands in.
each person who I pulled the files from will get a thanks in the posts as necessary
NonSense 1.04
Disclamer: these files are meant specifically for the HTC Desire 510. Use these files at your peril, you assume any responsibility for loss or damage that may result from use of these files or procedures. what has been included in this tutorial is for the HTC Desire 510
You have been warned.
note: from now on CRI signifies cricket, and B-S signifies sprint/boost if those signifiers aren't used, it applies to both type of this phone
now to the goodies.....
List of supplies:
1. Phone (HTC Desire 510)
2. USB cord that syncs with the PC
3. USB drivers installed for the phone
4. the zip files from this location. click here
4.1 there are 2 different versions of the same ROM, but the *1.04-lean.zip is US only (refer to changes to see why).
4.2 CRI for cricket/att, B-S for boost/sprint
5. read these instructions completely before attempting
before we get started make sure you have supersu (which can be downloaded from here), and NonSense1.04.zip copied to the root of your external SD card
NETWORK UNLOCK (I.E. switching services)​
as this phone is LTE compatible, it takes a SIM card no matter the service to receive calls and data. so it stands to presume all you need to do is network unlock the device (Sprint calls it UICC unlock, others it's the Network Unlock Code)
the phone needs to be network (SIM) unlocked in order to switch it from cricket to sprint, or from sprint to virgin mobile, etc.
to network unlock the phone:
1. make sure you are on stock ROM (the one that came with the phone, not the one listed in this post nor CM)
2. call the respective original service provider of the phone (i.e. cricket, sprint, etc.) and tell them that you are leaving the country (like to Australia) and you want to unlock the SIM so you can use your device for service down there.
2.1 if you bought the phone second-hand or don't have service on it, you will have to find a reputable unlock service online
2.2 for sprint customers, your account HAS to be at least 6 months old before they will give you the UICC(SIM unlock) code
2.3 for boost customers, your account HAS to be at least a year before they will give you the UICC(SIM unlock) code
3. once you have the SIM unlock code, pull battery from phone, remove the original SIM, put your services respective SIM in (i.e. originally a cricket phone now running a T-Mobile SIM), put in battery, boot phone, and enter the unlock code where it asks.
4. once your back into device, you'll notice you will have no data.
4.1 what needs to be done is to program the APN (google will be your best friend here - for example sprint lte apn settings, or T-Mobile lte apn settings).
5. now that you have the APN settings, you can program them into the phone.
5.1 APNs can be found in the device by going to settings, then mobile data, clicking on access point names. in there in the upper right hand corner should be 3 dots that are verticle. click on that and then on new APN.
5.2 add the respective settings, click save and then make sure it has a green dot next to it.
6. sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor
APNs for this device can only be written once the phone has been UNLOCKED and the original (cricket) service providers SIM is NOT inserted, and your using another service Provider ( sprint, T-Mobile, etc.) SIM.
UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER​
1. for the drivers, use the ones contained here in the HTCDrivers.zip and extract them to the desktop
1. extract and use the file contained in adb.zip to flash unlock token
2. follow this tutorial and choose all other supported devicess when it asks about device.
INSTALLING TWRP AND KERNEL​
in the adb file you should notice a file called recovery.img. that is TWRP recovery for the device
there is also a file called boot.img. this will allow read/write permissions at the System level once root is obtained
if you have either the sprint, boost or another service provider's variety of this phone, try flashing their respective kernel after you install the ROM or before you root (no guarantees that flashing the respective kernel will work. as I have the cricket variety of this phone, I am only developing for that one)
1. from home screen, go to settings and scroll down to power and then scroll all the to the bottom of that and uncheck "fast boot"
2. shut down phone completely
3. go back into fastboot (vol down + power)
4. Select fastboot from the menu list and press the power button.
5. open command prompt and use the CD command to get it to the root of the adb folder (CD C:/users/sky/desktop/adb).
6. plug in device and wait for it to say fastboot USB
7. type in command prompt "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' (should complete within 4 seconds)
8. in the same command window type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" (should complete within 4 seconds)
8.1 step 8 can be skipped if your just flashing *NonSense1.04*.zip
9. pull battery once that is completed and put it back in.
10. power device on (skip this step if rooting)
OBTAINING ROOT (can be skipped if installing NonSense1.04 as it's already rooted)​
1. re-enter fastboot mode and choose recovery. press power to select it
2. once in recovery select install and go to external SD and select the supersu update package.
3. once selected, you should see a slider on the bottom of the screen that says swipe to confirm. do so
4. once package is installed you should see a button that says reboot device. do so
5. wait for it to fully load
INSTALLING NonSense 1.04​
1. re-enter fastboot mode and choose recovery. press power to select it
2. once in recovery select install and go to external SD and select the NonSense1.04.zip.
3. once selected, you should see a slider on the bottom of the screen that says swipe to confirm. do so
3.1 beware, it may take a bit to install. just be patient, it's working.
4. once package is installed you should see a button that says reboot device. do so
5. wait for it to fully load. be forewarned, it may take about 15 minutes to load
CHANGES​
CRI versions
1. DEODEXed the ROM
2. added external SD support into the ROM
3. fixed FC on clock app (switched clock/alarm from stock worldclock.apk to AOSP clock)
4. changed bootanimation.zip, boot sound, and stock ringtones and sounds.

UPDATES​
for those of you who have downloaded the ROM since first release, I will include an CRI_NSupdate.zip or B-S_NSupdate.zip file found here. it will include the changes I have made to the rom since it's initial upload.
the file by the name of NSupdate.szip will include update that pertain to both the CRI and B-S ROMS
to install the updates, just put the update file onto the root of the SD card, reboot into recovery, choose install, pick the update file, swipe the blue button on the bottom, reboot and enjoy.
EDITING THE BOOTUP​
location of files mentioned is in /system/customize/resource
to change boot animation
1. find your favorite boot animation
2. rename it to AIO_bootup.zip
3. copy/move and overwrite the original with a root explorer to /system/customize/resource
to change the boot sound
1. find a sound file you like and want to hear every time the phone boots (can be changed at any time)
2. convert it to wav (the file has to be wav in order for the phone to recognize it)
3. rename it to CRICKET_LOGO_24bit28k_STEREO.wav
4. copy/move and overwrite the original with a root explorer to /system/customize/resource
reboot and enjoy...
THINGS NOTICED WHILE CREATING ROMs​
1. both (cricket and boost/sprint) phones are exactly the same except for the boost/sprint ones contain a CDMA chipset.
1.1 the only things I had to change from the cricket rom to the boost rom was apns.xml in framework-res, apns-conf.xml, and the preferred network type in build.prop.
2. all kernels work for both (US) versions
3. the same recovery is used on both (US based) devices
so essentially, if we develop for the boost/sprint version of the device, change a few things, it will be ready to roll for the cricket version as well
TO FIX NATIVE TETHER ON B-S VERSIONS​
1. Install Script Manager – SManager app from the Play Store.
2. Open the app and grant it root access when prompted.
3. Now, navigate to /system/etc/init.d and tap “tether” script.
4. Click on SU and Boot (Android skull and gear icons, respectively)
5. Click on Run and Save options.
The issue should be fixed now. Reboot and enjoy!

I will be building CM11 for the device for both the cricket and boost models. look for the info here as I update it a I need
****edit**** ok so I figured out some of the issue with CM11 not wanting to install apps. I got the internal memory pulling the 1.1 gbs but now I need to symlink the external memory where it goes.
****edit**** so I have figured out what needs to be done...... the kernel for CM11 needs to be built from the ground, up (or one needs to be built that is compatible with it). i'll upload the current one that fixes the memory error (look in downloads).

Question to you Schizoidd......If I install the new 1.04lean over the previous build, do I still need to flash that update or is is already included in 1.04lean. I already falshed that some time ago when you first put it out, so I'm just not sure if its needed again or not. Thanks bro.

When you flash the new one, wipe the system partition and then use an explorer to remove v4a from the user apps. Which is located in /data/apps and reboot

Well it's added to it. It just needs to be activated for now until I can figure out how to add it to automatically start from the first run of the Sprint/boost ROM

Yeah, I figured as much. Should have been clearer with my ? Is that before or after I flash the new lean. I though if I did it after, that it would set me back to square one. As in having to start fresh setting everything up again, which I really dont want to have to do. Apologies for my unclearness.

it'll leave ur data alone, just delete the OS. do not touch internal memory, davlik, data, or cache and ur stuff will be safe. I have done it and my stuff is fine

we cant really do a "aosp" kernel because of htc's modifications to the board and pins,and they have their own dtb issues...im 99% sure mine works with android 4.4.x because of larry using it in gpe,just repack the ramdisk the zimage and it should be okay

If you're going from bone stock to this, you need to do a factory data reset. Just make ssure you back up your data and use nandroid manager to pull it data back into the new ROM

Introduction
This ROM is based on lost101's, kingkaminari's and VitaTaf's work you can find here. The main aim of my modifications is putting debloating to the extreme and getting rid of intrusive Google spying services that violate user's privacy. Before you flash this ROM read all the information below and make sure you still want to do it as some stuff you find essential might be missing and irreplaceble. Flashing
1. Boot into TWRP

Setup (version 1.0 only)
When the installation completes you'll find there's no Setup Wizard, and some important UI components (Home button, Notifications, Quick Settings) are blocked. There's also no access to Developer's Options. Don't worry - they're normally being unlocked after you're done with Setup Wizard but since it's not there you need to do it manually:
1. Open ADB terminal on your computer
2. Connect your device
3. Execute the following commands:

Life after Google
You can try using Micro GmsCore to access Play Store content, and here are some alternatives:
1. Interesting and useful apps in F-Droid store:
- Adaway (system-wide ad blocker)
- AFWall+ (very nice firewall. I use it in whitelist mode because it blocks internet access to all apps by default)
- Etar (calendar. Won't work without Google calendar service and account)
- K-9 mail (bit ugly but awesome mail client)
- Open camera (stock camera replacement)
- Wifi automatic (turns wifi off when you lock the screen which saves battery and improves security. Bugged a little and randomly disables wifi from time to time)
- SMSsecure (messaging app with encryption)
- 920 Editor (text editor)
- Document Viewer (self explanatory)
- Network Log (self explanatory)
2. Other interesting and useful apps around the web (mostly on XDA):
- ApkTrack (app updates tracker),
- Calc+ (calculator),
- CoolTool (CPU and RAM usage and other info display),
- DejaOffice (office app that looks a bit outdated, but it's the only calendar app to work without Google services I found so far),
- Disconnect.me (private web searches; the app FC right after starting it, probably due to lack of Google search services available)
- DriveDroid (turns the phone into Linux live USB),
- ES File Explorer (file explorer),
- Firefox (web browser),
- Gravity Screen (Turning screen off and on without using physical power button),

I'm having trouble getting this to work.
Yesterday when I tried to install it i got the following error:
"symlink: no of syymlinks failed = 1
Updater process ended with error: 7
Error installing zip file '/sdcard/Identity+Crisis+6+LTE+v1.0a_NoGApps_mod_v.1.0_beta.zip'
Tried again today and managed to get it to install after rebooting recovery a few times, but ended up getting into a bootloop for 40 minutes.
I tried wiping everything, ART cache, system, data, internal and cache, but still get the same, an endless bootloop.
Any ideas?

The first issue is internal TWRP error that happens pretty randomly, just restart recovery and it should be gone. The second thing never really happened to me, and I have to ask if you've followed instalation instructions? They're quite strict. You must wipe data and do a factory reset prior to installation. Just try again, following all steps exactly.
I'd also consider waiting a bit for final stable version with error fixes of lost101's ROM I use as a base. It's still kind of WIP.
I'd sure want to try this out, just wondering how well Google Play and Youtube work with the Micro G framework? Those are basicly the only google apps I use.
I could use the browser for youtube, create a link directly to the homescreen maybe. And I probably could survive without the play store to, just download apk from a mirror and sideload, but it would be kind of a hassle.
Anyhow, I probablt wait a few weeks until the MM rom seems stable.

I do get a beep however that it is connected, and it says something like MTP usb device. But I can't do anything with that. I've tried installing it as an adb device instead but that didn't work.

I read through IC thread - Lost101 is still polishing it, so I'll wait for some final build. And I guess you've got problem with ADB connection, because you didn't add persistent ADB debug to build.prop, or added but with some dodgy notepad (in Windows use Notepad++) - the lines that need to be added are in the OP.

I have found a bug.
I was setting a lockscreen password that contained = in it and it came up as bad bad characted (I thought it's just a bug because it wouldn't show that error on stock firmware) so I have tried to enter the same password once more and it worked. Then I have locked the phone and couldn't unlock it because I allways entered the wrong password.
I think that the same thing would happen to encrypted devices.
I have found an interesting app that lets you enter permission control settings without root, because these permission settings is hidden in most android versions that came before marshmallow. Not granual, but still better than nothing.
It's size is 7kb, it asks for no permissions, probably because it's just a shortcut to the settings.
To people who don't have Play Store:
Install BlueStacks on your pc.
Root it using King Root.
Install desired apps using Play Store.
Install ES File Explorer:
From panel select:
-Tools/Root Explorer
-Tools/Show hidden files
-Network/Cloud/+/your desired cloud provider and log in.
-Local/Device/data/app .
Select your installed apps and copy them to your drive.
From your Play Store missing device goto your cloud provider website, log in ,download and install your apps.
This method can be long, but you will have all of the apps that you downloaded on cloud so you won't have to do the same process over and over again.

It's coming soon
@toster88 motivated me with his comment to spend some time on preparing updated version of this rom. It' based on @lost101's IC6 LTE 1.2c version and contains a few little changes:
- AnySoftKeyboard replaced with Hacker's Keyboard as ASK is a bit awkward when it comes to accesing numeric keys
- MiXplorer has been updated to the newest version (6.4.0)
- Nova Launcher added (sorry for some artifacts like empty folders or Google search box, but I have no idea how to get rid of them)
- persistent ADB debugging removed from build.prop as it's no longer needed. Init.d script deals with initial device provisionig now. /system/etc/init.d/setup can be removed after first boot if everything is working fine (quick settings, home button, developer's options, etc. are accessible).
That's about it, I hope you'll enjoy this build. Please let me know if there are any bugs specific to this rom (and not to MM or IC6 1.2c) as I'm not using XT1039 as a daily driver anymore.

You can just unzip the rom and remove unwanted apps (with their folders) by hand in Windows file explorer and then zip it back. Or, if you wanna feel more like a propper dev you can do it with Superr Kitchen where you create custom debloat list. Both methods are confirmed to work. Removing GApps is a bit tricky as you need to remove all of them - if you leave anything it may give you FCs or black screen after boot. You will also have to choose some way to provision the device without GApps and i believe the smoothest method is by init.d script sice it's enabled in @lost101 rom and doesn't require users to do anything after installation. The script looksi like this:

All I want to do is Identity working as it works itself, with no GApps and supersu working as it's been working always. Although I'd say installing microG may cushion the blow since it is a FLOSS Google framework that will not make things break in a regular use. To sum it up, do I need to create a .txt file or something with the code and thereafter make it work with a init.d script application or something similar?

Now, when you remove all GApps you'll have to provision your device. Long story short is that when you first boot your phone after flashing new rom it will start with Setup Wizard where you'll be asked for wifi password, google account details and where you accept all terms & conditions. By default you're locked in setup mode until it's finished - you can't use home button to escape it, you can't access settings, etc. If you remove GApps there's no Setup Wizard so your phone will stay in setup mode and you need to end it manually. Like I said before, the best way is to use init.d script. Use Notepad to create new file, copy the lines I posted last time, save it without any extension, I believe its permissions need to be set to 755 (rwxrxrx). Place the file in

and that's it.
Alternatively you can use ADB or terminal emulator to execute these commands:

At the moment I'm stuck at a step. I'm on Fedora 25 and I want to remove a whole folder within the system /system/app/MagiskManager/ or whatever the directory is and I can not. Albeit I might delete the superuser and Magisk folders whose location is the very first thing we see as we open the .zip, I can't do the same with folders within the system and I wonder why. The other option is extracting the whole content of the ROM in a new directory and deleting files at my will. Thereafter, I can zip it back. The problem is that I do not know how to zip it back. Do you have any idea of somebody who mod on GNU/Linux?
On the other hand, I saw this apk you passed on to make the init.d script work. The simple steps that popped up on my mind were:
- Factory reset.
- Flash ROM + supersu.zip
How can I put your application within the system folders and ensure it'll work as expected? Another thing that I lack knowledge of is the permissions. How can I give a file or a folder permissions on GNU/Linux? There's nothing else I can think of other than wiping everything, flashing the ROM alongside the supersu.zip and booting up but as you told me, I'd be frozen at the first screen. It's strange for me to get ahead but I'm keen to learn and get ahold from you anytime.

My knowlege of Linux is pretty much none. I'm using Ubuntu for Superr's Kitchen and that's it. I don't know how different Fedora is from Ubuntu, but Ubuntu interface is very similair to Windows, so never had any problems with simple files operations like unpacking, deleting, etc, and there's always Google at hand with tons of tips and help. Extracting the rom.zip is a good first step, but I'd install the Kitchen - it really makes things esier.
BTW - beside Magisk and Superuser folders there are also apps in /system/app that need to go if you're deleting binaries. They will survive factory reset but won't work. AFAIK they are in lost101's only temporarily and he said he'll use Chainfire's SU in next version anyway.
For setting permissions, as mostly Windows user, I have two solutions - you can either set them in TWRP using its file manager or do it in Android (I'm using MiXplorer for that). You just need to root your rom first.
And you won't be frozen at the first screen if you remove all GApps and SetupWizard apks.
I got almost everything working, but I can't access the Phone via USB from my WIN7 Desktop. It works with adb/fastboot but not as MobileDevice, also it is shown in WIN-Eplorer as XT1072. It did work before I flashed this ROM.
Any advice would be highly appreciated

suhide is an experimental (and officially unsupported) mod for SuperSU that can selectively hide root (the su binary and package name) from other applications.
Pros
- Hides root on a per-app base, no need to globally disable root
- Doesn't need Xposed
- Even supports SuperSU's ancient app compatibility mode (BINDSYSTEMXBIN)
- Passes SafetyNet attestation by default on stock ROMs (last officially tested on 2016.10.07)
Cons
- Ultimately a losing game (see the next few posts)
- No GUI (at the moment) - Unofficial GUI by loserskater
Requirements
- SuperSU v2.78 SR1 or newer (link)
- SuperSU installed in systemless mode
- Android 6.0 or newer
- TWRP (3.0.2 or newer, with access to /data - link!) or FlashFire (link)
Xposed
Xposed is not currently officially supported, but if you want to use it directly, you must be using @topjohnwu 's systemless xposed v86.2 exactly (attached at the bottom). It seems to mostly work during my non-extensive testing, but there are still some performance issues (both boot-time and run-time). Proceed with caution, expect bootloop.
Alternatively, there are some reports that the latest Magisk version + the latest systemless xposed (for Magisk) also works. I have not personally tested this.
CyanogenMod
I've personally tested with CM13 on i9300 without issue, however, several users are reporting it doesn't work for them. Proceed with caution, expect bootloop. Also, aside from just flashing SuperSU, you need to make sure /system/bin/su and /system/xbin/su are removed, or CM's internal root will still be used.
Usage
Install/Upgrade
- Make sure you have the latest SuperSU version flashed in systemless mode
- Make sure you are using the latest TWRP or FlashFire version
- Remove any and all Xposed versions
- If you have been having issues, flash suhide-rm-vX.YY.zip first, and note that your blacklist has been lost.
- Flash the attached suhide-vX.YY.zip
- If you are upgrading from suhide v0.16 or older, reflash SuperSU ZIP, and note that your blacklist has been lost.
- Optionally, flash the Xposed version linked above, and pray
At first install SafetyNet is automatically blacklisted.
If you have just flashed a ROM, it is advised to let it fully boot at least once before installing suhide.
Uninstall
- Flash the attached suhide-rm-vX.YY.zip. The version may appear older, the uninstall script doesn't change very often.
Blacklisting an app
You need the UID (10000 to 99999, usually 10xxx) of the app, which can be tricky to find, or the process name. There may be a GUI for this at some point.
(Note that all commands below need to be executed from a root shell)
If you know the package name, ls -nld /data/data/packagename will show the UID - usually the 3rd column.
Similarly, for running apps, ps -n | grep packagename will also show the UID - usually the 1st column.
Note that the process name is often the same as the package name, but this is not always the case. UID is more reliable for identifying a specific app, and it is also faster than blocking based on process names.
When you know the UID or process name:
Add to blacklist: /su/suhide/add UID or /su/suhide/add processname
Remove from blacklist: /su/suhide/rm UID or /su/suhide/rm processname
List blacklist: /su/suhide/list
All running processes for that UID or process name need to be killed/restarted for su binary hiding. For SuperSU GUI hiding, the device needs to be restarted. I recommend just (soft-)rebooting your device after making any changes.
Please keep in mind that many apps store their rooted state, so you may need to clear their data (and then reboot).
Integration into SuperSU
This mod isn't stable, and probably will never be (see the next few posts). As SuperSU does aim to be stable, I don't think they're a good match. But who knows, it all depends on how things progress on the detection side.
Detections
This mod hides the su binary pretty well, and does a basic job of hiding the SuperSU GUI. The hiding is never perfect, and suhide itself is not undetectable either. This will never be a perfectly working solution.
Debugging bootloops
- Get your device in a booting state
- Make sure you have TWRP or a similar recovery
- Install LiveBoot (link)
- If you are not a LiveBoot Pro user, enable the Freeload option
- Enable the Save logs option
- Recreate the bootloop
- In TWRP, get /cache/liveboot.log , and ZIP+attach it to a post here.

Hiding root: a losing game - rant du jour
Most apps that detect root fall into the payment, banking/investing, corporate security, or (anit cheating) gaming category.
While a lot of apps have their custom root detection routines, with the introduction of SafetyNet the situation for power users has become worse, as developers of those apps can now use a single API to check if the device is not obviously compromised.
SafetyNet is of course developed by Google, which means they can do some tricks that others may not be able to easily do, as they have better platform access and control. In its current incarnation, ultimately the detection routines still run as an unprivileged user and do not yet use information from expected-to-be-secure components such as the bootloader or TPM. In other words, even though they have slightly more access than a 3rd party app, they still have less access than a root app does.
Following from this is that as long as there is someone who is willing to put in the time and effort - and this can become very complex and time consuming very quickly - and SafetyNet keeps their detection routines in the same class, there will in theory always be a way to beat these detections.
While reading that may initially make some of you rejoice, this is in truth a bad thing. As an Android security engineer in Google's employ has stated, they need to "make sure that Android Pay is running on a device that has a well documented set of API’s and a well understood security model".
The problem is that with a rooted device, it is ultimately not possible to guarantee said security model with the current class of SafetyNet tamper detection routines. The cat and mouse game currently being played out - SafetyNet detecting root, someone bypassing it, SafetyNet detecting it again, repeat - only serves to emphasize this point. The more we push this, the more obvious this becomes to all players involved, and the quicker SafetyNet (and similar solutions) will grow beyond their current limitations.
Ultimately, information will be provided and verified by bootloaders/TrustZone/SecureBoot/TIMA/TEE/TPM etc. (Samsung is already doing this with their KNOX/TIMA solutions). Parts of the device we cannot easily reach or patch, and thus there will come a time when these detection bypasses may no longer viable. This will happen regardless of our efforts, as you can be sure malware authors are working on this as well. What we power-users do may well influence the time-frame, however. If a bypass attains critical mass, it will be patched quickly.
More security requires more locking down. Ultimately these security features are about money - unbelievably large amounts of money. This while our precious unlocked bootloaders and root solutions are more of a developer and enthusiast thing. While we're all generally fond of shaking our fists at the likes of Google, Samsung, HTC, etc, it should be noted that there are people in all these companies actively lobbying to keep unlocked/unlockable devices available for us to play with, with the only limitation being that some financial/corporate stuff may not work if we play too hard.
It would be much easier (and safer from their perspective) for all these parties to simply plug that hole and fully lock down the platform (beyond 3rd party apps using only the normal APIs). Bypassing root checks en masse is nothing less than poking the bear.
Nevertheless, users want to hide their roots (so do malware authors...) and at least this implementation of suhide is a simple one. I still think it's a bad idea to do it. Then again, I think it's a bad idea to do anything financial related on Android smartphone that isn't completely clean, but that's just me.
Note that I have intentionally left out any debate on whether SafetyNet/AndroidPay/etc need to be this perfectly secure (most people do their banking on virus ridden Windows installations after all), who should get to decide which risk is worth taking, or even if Google and cohorts would be able to design the systems more robustly so the main app processor would not need to be trusted at all. (the latter could be done for Android Pay, but wouldn't necessarily solve anything for Random Banking App). While those are very interesting discussion points, ultimately it is Google who decides how they want this system to work, regardless of our opinions on the matter - and they want to secure it.

Edit @Chainfire this seems to work for enabling Android Pay! I didn't get the chance to actually pay yet. But it did let me add my card and did not display the message about a failed authorization of Android check! Before I couldn't even get past that first screen.
Edit 2: @Chainfire It seems to of had an adverse effect on Snapchat. I cleared cache on the app, uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted. It kept Force closing after a photo no matter what. I used suhide-rm and it seems to have fixed the app from any issues. Thanks again and hopefully we'll get you some more reports. Either way your solution works!

I'd just give it a try. It's spoofing the specific app, not the entire ROM that matters. It's fairly simple to try.
Installed on LG G4 w/ V20g-EUR-XX update and rerooted with TWRP 3.0.2-0 and SuperSU-v2.76-2016063161323. seems to be working fine, for the moment. Thank you for the update.
So far so good, I was able to add card to android pay. I would try using it during lunch and report back. Again, thanks for the continuous hard work.

You need to blacklist the UID for your bank. Directions are in the OP.

HUGE thanks to the guys that got this going like root & figuring out hybrid stocks! This ROM is a complete rewrite of my ROM [ROM][TMOBILE][S7_SM-G930T][Oreo Rooted] That ROM doesnt have WifiCalling & I couldn't get it to work for the life of me, so I rewrote it. I started with stock, and slowly stepped back making changes, reinstalling each time, confirming it still worked. About 200 installs later & 1000s of changes, this is the result. Yes, it took a LONG time. Hope you enjoy it! Don't forget to say Thanks so I know it is actually helpful to others, and continue doing this!
Description:
Stock Tmobile Oreo 8.0 modified (G930TUVU4CRF1)
EXTREMELY debloated! Nearly bare minimum, while still retaining hardware functionality. Eg, Samsung Gallery & Camera exist so we get 4k recording, and there aren't errors when we pull up the Gallery to edit, etc. Yes, this means NO Samsung or Android Pay. There could be more apps to debloat but Im out of time for now! (Please provide suggestions if interested)
Everything possible I replace Samsung with Google
Solid ROM. It was actually kind of slow for me, but I'm curious how this works for others.
Xposed is part of the guide, which will give you infinite customization & tweak-ability
If you hate Samsung SW and just want a solid working ROM with very few install options to get you up and running this is for you.

Install Stock Oreo:
Download mode & Setup
Make sure you have latest device drivers setup on your PC
Enable USB Debugging on phone in Developer Settings
Boot phone into Download Mode:
Turn off your device
Press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power button
When you see the warning screen, release buttons & press Vol UP. Phone should say "Downloading..."
Download and unzip Base.7z to PC (This contains stock Oreo, ODIN, & root)
ODIN
Open ODIN on PC (\Base\Odin_313.exe)
Connect USB from PC to phone. ID:COM in Odin should turn Blue with a COM port
Select AP, BL, CP and CSC files from the \Oreo_Stock\Base\ folder for corresponding files
Select HERO2QLTE_USA_VZW.pit
Select Start
Finished: Phone will reboot & show Carrier screen for 3-5mins. Wait until Setup screen & go through quickly (bare minimum) since you'll wipe it again. Once in Android, go to Settings->Display->Screen resolution->WQHD->Apply
Root Instructions: (+Flashfire, SuperSU)
Reboot phone into Download mode
Odin
AP: Select \Base\Root\AP_SM_G930_OREO_ENG_BOOT.tar
Start-> Wait for phone to boot to Android OS
Root
Double-click \Base\Root\cmd-here.exe & Type: root.bat [enter]
Option: 1 (Install Root No tweaks) (Or pick whatever you want)
*Note: With this system root, do not update su binary. Disable notifications for SuperSU app. Don't flash any superuser zips in recovery that are not made by jrkruse
Install Custom Hybrid ROM & Xposed
Download & copy Oreo_Kevin71246Modded_v##.zip to phone
Flashfire
Open Flashfire on phone
Red + symbol->Flash Zip or OTA->Oreo_Kevin71246Modded_v#, Auto-mount, Mount /system read/write Option->Check mark
Click Lighting bolt at bottom-> OK
Phone will reboot to Aroma. Go through setup. (See above for what's in KevinsFavorites)
When finished, allow Aroma to exit.
It should reboot into Recovery (If not, do this: immediately hold Vol-Up btn+Home btn until you see recovery on screen. If you missed it, try again: hold Vol-Down+Pwr btn ~10sec until phone restarts & immediately hold Vol-Up btn+Home btn until you see recovery on screen.)
In recovery: Factory Reset->Yes->Restart phone
*Wait 5-10min on loading screens
Go thru Android setup. Ignore "Xposed Installer has stopped" error

Visual Voicemail may fail to register, but restart phone and give it a few hours. It works eventually.

I have so many FW packages on my PC at this point, from so many places that I used while trying to get this to work, but I think it might be a package from one of your threads(?) Since I'm not exactly sure what you're asking regarding "Ufirm FW", I'll elaborate hoping that answers your question. (Tho I'm thinking you mean the U variation/unlocked. So based on these stock files below I guess the answer is no.) If you're question is really, "is it possible to get tmobile wifi calling to work on a U model #", then I'd have to really think about that. But at this point I don't have an answer. I can tell you a million dependencies about it tho! (I seriously have hundreds of revisions I made while testing, & notes. The symbolic & meta links in Aroma initially broke it, as I found out after a week or so of testing - wish I knew a bit more about them, and why they're all there, then I'd know what was wrong about them...)
High-level process:
1)Flash Base/Stock/Oreo Rom:

If you choose the keep safestrap option during root the it will flash the system/vendor/etc/ fstab.qcom that totally removes data encryption but when that fstab.qcom is flashed it also requires a data wipe for phone to boot then when you install xposed you won’t see that error but either way you end up wiping data so your choice

First, I want to thank you so much kevin71246. I tried your previous version as I was sick and tired of how sluggish my phone felt after the last two T-Mobile OTA updates. So far the experience on the phone has been great but I wanted to post about an issue I had with that version to see if anyone else has come across it or can figure out what is going on. The reason I am making this a reply in this thread instead of your other is because I will be flashing this update shortly but I want to get the ball rolling on the issue first.
I went through the whole process, installing the minimum with Google Apps, though I did restore everything previously installed once I log in with my Goggle Account. I am unsure if this contributed to the problem but I will not be restoring apps on the next try. It seems no matter what process I attempt to connect my Ticwatch E to my S7 the Wear OS app will not recognize it which causes the watch to get stuck in the setup phase, making it useless. This was after multiple and different connection attempts, resets, reboots and factory (watch only) restores. The watch will show up under bluetooth and create the initial connection but it will not stay connected. Anyone have any idea? Is this ROM missing something?
Edit: Mid way through the install, I wanted to note that I checked for the issue after doing the "Install Stock Oreo" but before Root and everything worked as it should. Wear OS sees the watch instantly and Bluetooth connects fine.
Edit: So I am a day into using the ROM and I am still having issues. While it will connect and work perfectly fine now, when ever I do a reboot of the phone the watch no longer connects. I will just get constant Bluetooth Connection Requests, every single time the watch tries to get data, and it never actually connects. To fix this I need to do a complete reset of the watch and do the whole setup process again. As you can imagine this is no good, expecting to wipe my watch every time my phone reboots makes it still almost useless.

Hi, why you have to flash this - HEROQLTE_USA_VZW.pit on 930t, is it ROM specified? if I do and don't then what are pro and cons?

since bootloader is locked you can't use TWRP so you have to use Flashfire to install this ROM, as you know flashfire required root so you have to setup the base per OP and then root the base then install the ROM and then root it again, read the first page I don't think you will get a instructions more detailed then his

I've messed with the qmg files in an attempt to replace the weird, nauseating rainbow animation but even after overwriting the latter, it persists. Looking forward to a reply kek

Nauseating rainbow? LOL. Sorry. This is much more of a general question though, that wouldn't exactly pertain to this ROM specifically. And given I don't have an answer, I'd try searching BootAnimation How-Tos to get this customized. The ONLY thing I did regarding this was replaced the existing files with the rainbow ones. That's it. Apologies in advance.
Just discovered an issue: RCS (Rich Communication Services / Chat) texts don't show up in Android Messages app. See "Known Issues" in OP for a solution. BTW I posted a new ROM version a few days back that allows many choices in Aroma Installer. Make sure to pick Samsung Messages (instead of Google), so you get RCS chat text messages!

Magisk help (please!)

new here and went through quite a few threads on Magisk before posting.
Situation is as follows:
- got my Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra from Aliexpress a few days ago.
- the seller unlocked the bootloader and instealled global ROM instead of the original Chineese ROM.
- the phone works fine, but Google Wallet would not allow me to add any of my credit/debit cards for contactless payments showing the usual "Your phone doesn't meet security requirements"
- NETFLIX wouldn't work.
- Quite a few of my banking apps work fine, including HSBC bank, Paypal, Revolut, IG Index and some others as well.
The obvious solution is to go ahead with Magisk Hide (or what's currently available instead as Hide module is phased out as far as I understand).
Now, I'm really new to all this (have rooted a couple of phones/tablets a few years back) and have a few questions:
1. I was going through the process of installing Magisk on my phone, folloing the instructions here: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-magisk/?newsletter_popup=1
So according to this, I'm supposed to find a boot.img file in the ROM archive as far as I understand, but my issue is that I don't have the installed ROM details or data as it wasn't me who installed the ROM in the first place.
Is there any way to find out what ROM is installed and perhaps I could download the package and get the boot.img file from there? (ramdisk parameter show YES)
2. I will be installing ADB on my computer to be able to install Magisk as per the following instructions: https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
is there anything else I'd need?
3. Lastly, there is a bunch of good tutorials on your tube on how to use the latest Magysk + shamiko module etc. If someone knows a really good one, I would appreicate if you could post it

I imagine you can find exactly what ROM you are using in the Settings -> "About Phone" or something similar; Probably under something like "Android version" or "Build number". You can google search (most likely by build number or something similar) and find the Factory image needed to flash/install the ROM. Once you download that specific ROM installation file (most likely a .zip file), you should be able to extract it (or go inside the zipped file and extract the specific boot.img file) to be able to patch it in Magisk.

Best place to get the adb (and you'll also need fastboot.exe so you'll also get it from) is from the Platform Tools from Google's developer's site here: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
I'm unsure (but I doubt) if Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has 2 slots (A and B), but if it does, don't download the latest version of platform tools but version r33.0.3 because any version r34.0.0 and above has a known bug that will wreck devices with 2 slots (namely Google Pixels).

There are a number of root hide methods that hide root from Netflix and Google Wallet. One usually starts with using Magisk and Zygisk Denylist and making sure that Wallet, Netflix, Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google Play Protect, and Google Service Framework are all "ticked" with all their sub-selections ticked as well. Also, be aware that after implementing any/all of these, usually clearing all these Google services data and cache is required & a reboot of the device is a must, but re-entering your cards will also be required as well; as well as signing back into some Google services. Then, if all that doesn't work, there's Universal SafetyNet Fix -- or even Displax's Mod branch if the official USNF isn't enough. Then also any of the further root hiding methods; Shamiko, Magisk Delta, HideMyApp, etc..

Again, I'm coming only from Pixels and have absolutely no experience with Xiaomi and I can't be sure any of these will apply since you have a "custom" ROM (sort of) so things might not be as usual. These are just general dealings with Magisk and Android OS as I know them... But you state that you are "completely new to this", so I'm just trying to cover all the bases as much as I can, even if you would be already knowledgeable of them. If anything, these can be taken as just ideas and/or pointing to a direction that might work...

I imagine you can find exactly what ROM you are using in the Settings -> "About Phone" or something similar; Probably under something like "Android version" or "Build number". You can google search (most likely by build number or something similar) and find the Factory image needed to flash/install the ROM. Once you download that specific ROM installation file (most likely a .zip file), you should be able to extract it (or go inside the zipped file and extract the specific boot.img file) to be able to patch it in Magisk.
Best place to get the adb (and you'll also need fastboot.exe so you'll also get it from) is from the Platform Tools from Google's developer's site here: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
I'm unsure (but I doubt) if Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has 2 slots (A and B), but if it does, don't download the latest version of platform tools but version r33.0.3 because any version r34.0.0 and above has a known bug that will wreck devices with 2 slots (namely Google Pixels).

Thank you very much for taking time and going through all my queries, really appreicate it!
I started losing hope really as looked through a number of vide tutorials involving installing magisk via custom recovery, which would mean I needed to install a custom recovery first... so this was becoming a bit of a Russian Doll thing and a never ending quest.
Looked at "Detailed info and specs" on my phone and I have:
Baseband version
Kernel Version
I presume I can search by Kernel Version to find the ROM - will try that.
If I can't find the ROM, than the only way is to try and install custom recovery, download Magisk apk, rename it into zip, get into custom recovery mode and try to flash the zip file. Saw a few tutorials on youtube like that and it looked fairly straightforward, however not sure how easy or difficult it would be to install a custom recovery like TWRP on this phone.
I also looked through a tutorial of using Magisk with Zygisk and Denylist and again, looked pretty straightforward, but Magisk needs to be properly installed of course.
Yes, thank you - I understand that you need to clear cash and re-enter the cards once again, that would have been the least of my troubles.
Will try to search that kernel number on google once I have a moment and see if I get any luck.
Will also reasearch on how to install TWRP. If that's easier than I may go with that option instead of extracting and patching the boot.img

You can't find what MIUI version you have? That's all you basically need...
From a small bit of research, you state you are on a "global ROM" of a Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, which should just be a "global" version of the MIUI. You just need to find the MIUI global version and extract it (boot.ini) from the firmware update file. Once you find the version, you could search and find the firmware update file in places like here: https://xiaomirom.com/en/rom/mi-11-pro-ultra-11-ultra-star-global-fastboot-recovery-rom/ or other sites I imagine.
It's just important that you get the exact right version of the MIUI Global ROM you are currently running as patching and flashing a boot.ini of a different version could soft-brick/bootloop your device....
