XT1096 What to do with the latest update on a MOFO rooted Moto X running 5.1? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

XT1096 rooted via MOFO. My phone keeps bothering me about the latest update (stagefright). If I try the update will it fail? Will it successfully update and get rid of root? How do I get rid of these notifications? Almost Every time I turn on my phone it is trying to get me to update. Thoughts?

Why don't you flash the mofo image with the update installed? Then you phone will be updated and quit asking you to take the OTA which will fail anyway because of the current mofo rom installed and if it didn't fail would take root away.
This post has the files and instructions to update from 5.1 to the stagefright patched 5.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62791915&postcount=783

Installing Lollipop OTA Error

So I decided to flash THIS on my XT1063, which currently the phone is on 4.4.4. It gave a error as shown in the screenshot. The phone is completely stock and nothing have been modified. Any solution? and I don't want to wait for OTA... AND I have limited internet so I need to get this working...
Thanks
You need to downgrade as there is no ota for build 21.11.23

[Q] No system updates?

I was running Lollipop 5.0.2 on my Moto G (2014) XT1068 (India) and wanted to downgrade to KitKat. I followed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...dows-tool-moto-g-2014-xt1064-restore-t2957167
And although the downgrade has been successful, when I check for updates, I get a message that the phone is up to date and no updates are available whereas it should be telling me that Lollipop is available for download. Why is this happening?
Thanks in advance
there is a app that in need to be clean cache and data
Google Service Framework
After reboot and try to check for update.
Try that.
Do you wanna go back to L?
I don't want to go back to L but I might when 5.1 comes out for my phone.
Where can I find that app you are talking about?
you dont know how to clean data and cache for a app
settings/apps/all
:good:
Oh I didn't understand your post. I thought you meant dalvik cache. I'll do that. Thanks

I did as you said and cleared the data and cache for Google Play Services Framework app and restarted my phone but it still says that my device is up to date... What do I do now?

That happens, or the ota part of the rom is bug, or the ROM you using don't have update.
when update comes out, you search ways to flash the update. The update will come in a flash way before it release to all via OTA.
Ohkk... Once I flash the update the problem should go away right?

Or should I go for this ROM instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/windows-tool-moto-g-2014-xt1068-dual-t2983295 ?

I went for this ROM but it removed TWRP from my phone for some reason. And it's not telling me that there are system updates either.
Okay, so I read somewhere that the phone doesn't receive OTA updates if the device is rooted and it has a custom recovery. So I used SuperSUs Unroot feature to unroot the phone and then flashed the stock recovery to replace TWRP.
Now the phone isn't rooted, and it has stock recovery. But even now when I'm checking for updates it's telling me that my phone is up to date. If it matters, my bootloader is still unlocked but that shouldn't prevent me from getting an OTA update right?
Someone please reply...
you are confusing too much things.
like i told you, or you have a bug rom a rom that can reach to OTA because some one has change or remove the part of the ROM that receives the OTA, the OTA is the update... Or you cause a bug on it by mistake or by a app that you installed.
If you have a stock original ROM from Motorola it must received a OTA. Don't mare if you have bootloader unlocked, rooted or custom recovery it doesn't change the habitability of the device receive the OTA.
But if you received a OTA in the stock ROM that you change the recovery and rooted it, and after the download click on update, the phone will turn off and try to update, but it will not have success and you end with a brick phone.
so dont confuse the ability to received the OTA with be able to install it that are two separated thing.
Or you have a bug ROM or you dont have a stock ROM that is the way you dont receive ota.
If you don't wanna update, why bother with update????
When the update comes it will came to very little number of users, before is released to all user's via OTA. So unless you are part of Motorola tester club you don't receive the OTA when is available. But some one in that grup probably will share the update here at XDA that you will be able to flash. Don't mare the rom you are the flash will contain all the ROM and any one will be able to use, of course the right ROM file for the right device.
every update that moto did is now available here so don't worry now when it comes we all will have it.

Actually, I had download this firmware build earlier: KXB21.85.27 but this build hasn't received the Lollipop update, so I downloaded and flashed this firmware build: KXB21.85.23 and as soon as I booted up my phone I got the OTA notification for my phone. Problem solved.

I thought so too but a simple Google search told me that you can't install OTA updates even if you are running original stock ROM if you have a custom recovery. You MUST have Stock Recovery and only then you will receive the OTA update. Your bootloader can still be unlocked though.

[Q] 5.1 update after flashing latest 22.46-11 5.0 images.

I had xposed installed and then the OTA notification came so I wanted to get rid of xposed. I just did a full reset pretty much and downloaded 5.0 22.46-11 from Motorola's website and flashed it. I noticed, however, that they incremented the release key or something from
motorola/victara_tmo/victara:5.0/LXE22.46-11/10:user/release-keys

to
motorola/victara_tmo/victara:5.0/LXE22.46-11/11:user/release-keys

My OTA went away and I cannot sideload any OTA update files because the release keys don't match. Will I still receive the OTA eventually or do I need to try and find an old 22.46-11 image?
If you use the image from Motorola, you won't get OTA. Reflash using graffixNYC 5.0 image, you should get OTA update.

Return rooted VZW xt1060 4.4 back to stock

Hi,
I rooted my GF's Verizon Moto X on 4.4 like 2 years ago and can't remember how I did it. I feel like it had something to do w/ slapMyMoto or one of those toolkits.
With the announcement of Lollipop finally being released I wanted to return it to stock so It can be updated to 5.1.
Does anyone know how I should go about doing this? Is it as simple as just doing a standard update? through the software update in "about phone" or will that break it without reverting somethign first?
EDIT: when i click on update, it give me the following error "Unfortuantely, com.motorola.vzw.settings.extensions has stopped"
EDIT2: looks like that previous error was because i had some of the updater/OTA apps frozen. It now seems to present me w/ the option to update to 4.4.2. Decided to give it a shot and try to take the OTA. It rebooted and shows the android guy with "installing update" then eventually turned to a "error" android guy and rebooted, so no successful update.
THanks and sorry for the probably dumb question. I've been too spoiled w/ nexus'.
Download the stock firmware and flash it with Moto's fastboot executable, at least if the bootloader is unlocked you can do that. I'm not really sure if it will work with a locked bootloader, but I'd imaging that it wouldn't. I believe that there is a sticky here that even guides one through the process of returning to stock.
Thanks, i did eventually find some info and flashed the stock 4.4 image. After doing so, I was able to take the OTA to 4.4.2. However now that i'm on 4.4.2, it says my "software is up to date" when checking for the 4.4.4 OTA. Anybody have any tips on how to get it to go to 4.4.4?

it happened with mine too. I uninstalled motorola update service then got the official 4.4.4 OTA update. i hope that works for you too.

Cant install OTA.

My phone is completely stock now after I had trouble flashing an OTA on my Metro E5 Plus. It failed(with an error everytime) as I tried to install even after removing root. I flashed a backup, but now I can't even get an OTA prompt, tried to force update. Im stuck on the June security patch. Does anyone know what I can do to force, or flash an update?

If you used a stock firmware it should work. You might ask around if anyone has a twrp backup for your particular model AFTER the ota.
