Convert image text into editable text using Smart Select??? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I heard that this was a thing on previous Notes, but I can't seem to find it here. Anyone know if this feature still exists or was removed? Thanks.

It has been removed unfortunately. However, your best best to do this task would be with optical reader.

Look for camera modules that can be downloaded from the more setting in camera...may be it's there

This does the job, although not as elegant of a solution as what used to be there. Thanks for this post!

Hi,
A bit old but...: http://phandroid.com/2015/12/02/galaxy-note-5-s6-edge-plus-update/
Another key change Samsung seems to have made is the reintroduction of optical character recognition — the Smart Select feature’s ability to read text — on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. We’re not sure why the feature was taken out in the first place, but folks are sure to be glad it’s back.

On my N920C I was on the same boat on stock firmware but I found a workaround, I extracted the SmartClipService.apk (it's the Smart Select option) from an updated rom and it works! I choose Smart Select, I choose a texte then share to the clipboard in full text only or share to Snote and you can edit the text.
For those who want see in attachment for the apk, replace the existing one in /system/app/SmartClipService, set the correct permission (rw-r--r--) and if you are on an odexed rom delete the arm64 folder, reboot in recovery, wipe Dalvik-Cache and you should be good to go.
Maybe make a Nandroid backup before replacing the file, I'm not responsible if something goes wrong...

Hi,
If it's about my post then yes you need root.
The nice thing I noted is that when you click on the "T" after the smart select you can directly copy / paste the text or only a part of the text, like in the first screenshot at the bottom part. I mean I can choose only the word "connexion" for example and copy / paste it without the use of the share option.
It's a shame that the last update for my N920C doesn't have this update... and it's needed to do the thing with the apk from another firmware...

Maybe it's better explained like this :

yes, i'm also on 920c and i really miss this feature...but i'm not allowed to root my phone. Hope they will add it in the next 920c firmware

Hi,
Yes it works, but you must have root... Otherwise you will need to wait for an "official" firmware update for your model, maybe the feature will comee back.

[GUIDE] How to make live wallpapers to work on custom roms

Some custom roms dont have the live wallpaper function enabled....Actually the file to make it work is deleted along with other files to make roms bareboned.
This is a guide to enable live wallpapers on those roms....
NOTE: Its not a very complex thing, rather quite simple and easy and nothing new.....but i found so many noobs and beginners with this problem. So I decided to come up with a guide.
Steps:
1. Download the attachment (LiveWallpapersPicker.apk), Put it on your SD.
2. Use a root explorer and move the file to "system/apps"
3. After moving the file long press on the LiveWallpapersPicker.apk and select permissions from the menu, then set permissions as rw-r-r- (see screenshot)
Download your favourite live wallpaper, apply it and enjoy

Hi
I hope you get this. I have a galaxy gear all rooted and with null 15 rom. I have everything set as per your directions. In fact it was already preset that way including permissions. Nothing works. I'm really just trying to get bubbles running with no luck either. Any other possable sugestions would be greatly appreciated. Also do you happen to know what I can do to unblock bluetooth tether on my t889 note 2 . Thank you
hi. thanks for this tutorial. however when trying to apply a wallpaper the app crashes. ..
I'm running android 4.2.1
any help with this?
thanks!
nevermind , got the correct apk and now good to go, thanx!
same problem...
Any help with this again?
I was able to get it to work before, but now just fc.
Can't figure it out.
JB 4.2.1 (I think I have the right apk)
If anyone knows where to find the exact match, please post the link, as maybe this is the problem?
Pushed to system, changed perms etc.
I do notice that the LWP option under wallpapers is with "apps" not in a separate section as I remember it to be...
The only other thing I can figure is flashing a zip through recovery, but I don't see any zips for a LWP...
Doing this for my wife, as I got me a new device, help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

[ROOT][GUIDE]Install the Google Search 5.2 on the M preview with hotword detection

Hey guys I'm going to keep this clean and simple.
What you will need:
--The .apk from here (APKMirror ftw!)
--The .zip file I've attached to this post (the .so files are extracted from the .apk file) It is not flashable!!!!
--The latest Marshmallow preview installed
--Root
Steps:
1) Download the .apk and the zip files
2) With your favorite Root Browser, browse to /system/priv-app/Velvet/
3) Delete the current Velvet.apk and replace it with the new one make sure the permissions are correct (-rw-r-r)!!!
4) Then browse to /system/priv-app/Velvet/lib/arm/, delete all the .so files there, then place the ones you downloaded and extracted from the zip here again, make sure the permissions are correct (-rw-r-r)!!!
5) Reboot
6) Profit!
Notes: This does set the app drawer back to horizontal scrolling, and Voice search works, along with the hotword detection (everywhere)! If you guys want screenshots/proof of hotword detection working I can upload screenshots later. But please be sure to explicitly tell me.
Thanks!
First? Lol.

The function(s) of the app are not any different. The Google Search 5.2 update changed most aesthetics of the app. Screenshots can be found in a compilation here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/09/01/google-app-updated-to-version-5-2-33-with-new-logo-icon-color-galore-and-slightly-revamped-google-now-ui-apk-download/ (thanks to AP!). So the hotword detection isn't any different functionally, but it looks different.

Woah you're right... The lockscreen works perfectly but when the phone is on there's a problem. I know its a problem with the "draw over Apps" setting in M because 5.1 had an option there and 5.2 doesn't... Dang it Google! On the good side you can still do calculations and send messages because it reads the "solutions"...

There's no need to install it. Simply copy everything then reboot. It will install automatically after a reboot if you did everything correctly.

Caller Image

Is there any way to get the stock incallui to show full or atleast half caller image like in nougat ?
I can pay if anybody can help getting it to work.
i guess you have to root your phone for do this
If Ur phone is rooted & if Ur OK with custom rom then Dr. Ketan rom is best in terms of stability technically. Also the Full screen caller ID is running perfectely with full image on the screen. Im using the same on my SM-N950F/FD.
I dont want to root as of now.. Also i have seen the caller image bigger without root by @RequeLine but he is not replying as of now.

I taught @crayonyes how to do it, and he knows where to download them from me on 4pda.
he must help you. It's hard for me to communicate in English.

I think this will help you.
I tried his Oreo themes, but they crash my device and I had to manually delete the RequeLine app from TWRP to be able to boot into usable device. Maybe something from my ROM is interfering with his app. Too bad, I liked his new dialer style.

Hi there, the captcha on 4pda has a checkbox somewhere near it saying " Я не могу ввести ответ" . If you check it, then instead of validating the captcha, the system will send you and email with url as an alternative method of validating.
