[CANCELLED][MOD][HACK] Mobile Hotspot Hack for Xperia Z3V - Xperia Z3v Android Development

This mod enables the Mobile Hotspot feature on your Xperia Z3V without checking for tether entitlement. (In other words, you can use the mobile hotspot feature even if you are not paying for it on your Verizon account.)
Prerequisites:
1. You must be rooted.
2. You must have the XZ Dual Recovery installed. http://nut.xperia-files.com/
3. Reboot into either TWRP or PHILZ and flash the attached file.
DO NOT FLASH THIS YET YOU WILL BOOTLOOP IM TRYING TO DELETE THE ATTACHMENT. MAJOR ERROR. WILL RE UPLOAD SOON. IF YOU ARE BOOTLOOPING AFTER INSTALLING YOU WILL HAVE TO FTF BACK TO STOCK. MAJOR DEVELOPMENTAL FAIL, I'M LEARNING ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE. IT'LL BE UP AND WORKING SOON.
4. Reboot
If I helped you in any way, don't forget to THANK ME!
Please disregard this thread. The best method to getting tether without verification is downloading X Tether from Xposed Framework. Thanks.

SUCCESS! Wireless tether in AP Mode (NOT ad-hoc) + WPA2 Encryption

UPDATE 8-24:
I decided to update the OP since there seems to be alot of uncertianty and questions in this thread.
Most of the info in this thread is obsolete. If you are running ANY of the latest roms / kernels, SOFTAP is already compiled in, and all you have to do is download the latest version of WIRELESS TETHER FOR ROOT USERS. Download it from the project site, NOT THE MARKET. As of this post, the most recent version in the market does NOT support AP mode / WPA2! You have to get it from the developer's website.
If you are still running a stock 2.1 rom, then the following information might benefit you. Otherwise, head on over to the developers website: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=Incredible
and download the latest version. NO android.tether folder needed!!!!!! Install, and enjoy access point mode and WPA2 encryption!
--samwathegreat
OLD POST:
Hello fellow XDA-ers!
As many of you know, the latest version of wireless tether for root users allows you to tether in access-point mode rather than ad-hoc mode.
If you're aware of this, you're probably also aware that the stock HTC incredible kernel doesn't allow for AP mode, so even if you install the latest version, it will still continue to broadcast in ad-hoc mode (yuck!).
I've gone to the trouble of re-compiling the stock kernel with CONFIG_BCM4329_SOFTAP enabled (which allows for AP mode tethering)! My kernel is 100% identical to the stock htc kernel except for this one change to allow for AP mode. No other changes of any kind. No overclock or undervolt.
If you are running a cm6 OR skyraider rom, OR the leaked OTA, this functionality is already built into the respective kernel. Don't use my kernel if you're running one of these roms.
Also, some of the latest hydra kernels have support compiled in. If you are using hydra kernel, check the changelog on the developers website to see if your version has support.
Instructions:
1. NANDROID BACKUP!
2. Download my ap-inc.zip file and extract
3. Copy the tether_ap_kernel_inc-signed.zip AND the wireless tether apk file to your sdcard.
4. Reboot into recovery, and choose "Install zip file from sdcard", and choose the tether_ap_kernel_inc-signed.zip file.
5. Choose "Reboot Now"
6. When booted back up, install (or update) the supplied wireless tether apk file.
DONE! Now, when you use the wireless tether app, your phone will operate in access-point mode instead of ad-hoc! Additionally, instead of using WEP encryption, WPA2 encryption is now supported instead!!!!
Enjoy!!!!
Please note:
Credit for this goes to:
Myself (samwathegreat) - for re-compiling the stock kernel to allow AP mode
"Koush" - for supplying the means and instructions for creating a kernel update.zip file, and signing with test keys
And of course, the developers of wireless tether for root users.
You may NOT re-post or re-distribute these files and instructions without giving credit to the above individuals/groups.
Get the file here: www 4shared.com/file/uSjHGKnd/ap-inc html
EDIT: Forgot to mention:
1. This kernel is ONLY for the HTC Incredible. Don't try it on another device unless you really want a new paperweight.
2. You will still need to have the fw_bcm4329.bin file in the android.tether folder of your sd-card. Most likely, you already copied this file to the appropriate location when you rooted your phone. If someone has problems getting ahold of the fw_bcm4329.bin file, let me know and I'll post it. EDIT: this file is posted on page 2.
3. Once again: DO NOT use this kernel if you are running skyraider, cm6, or the leaked OTA! You don't need it.
EDIT 7-31-2010:
Due to lots of questions surrounding the latest 2.2 Froyo OTA Leaks, I decided to add this info (from page 12) to the OP:

Wireless tether will NOT work in AP mode in ANY of the latest leaked froyo builds. It may appear to work, but it is in fact not broadcasting, so you can't connect. You have a couple of options:
1. Use wireless tether 2.0.2 in ad-hoc mode
2. Modify the settings in the included 3g mobile hotspot such that it works without paying verizon an extra $20 bux a month.
The problem / reason we can't compile a kernel that supports ap mode for these roms is that HTC has not released the source code. The older kernels are incompatible with the latest roms. We will see more development in this area when the source code becomes available.

i currently have the 2.0.2 wireless tether working on my htc incredible. could someone explain the benefits of making the latest version of wireless tether, i think it's 2.0.5, run in access point mode rather than ad-hoc mode? i don't really know the advantages/disadvantages of the different modes..
The main advantage is that AP mode will (should...) allow ANY wifi device to connect.
With the old ad-hoc method, many devices such as nintendo ds, ipod touch, etc. could not connect.
Also, I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with dd-wrt and other custom router firmwares and their functions/benefits, but if you have a router running dd-wrt, and are familiar with the client / client bridge / repeater / repeater bridge modes, then you know that these modes will NOT work in ad-hoc mode.
With this new AP functionality, you can set your dd-wrt router to repeat your phone's SSID, OR use a router as a client bridge for your desktop computer or other device.
These are just a couple of benefits of AP mode. Many people probably have no use for much of this, but simply being able to connect almost any device (which was previously impossible with ad-hoc) is a huge benefit in and of itself.
Anyone else, please feel free to post additional benefits of using wireless tether in AP mode.
-samwathegreat
AP mode works with all devices that support wifi. Adhoc typically only works with pc. Also adhoc can do only 1 device at a time. (ap mode can do many)
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
the337: Also forgot to mention that another great benefit is that, with the new kernel, WPA2 encryption is supported instead of WEP. Wireless tether 2.0.2 only uses WEP encryption which is unsecure and easily cracked (go aircrack-ng).
Personally, I haven't had a chance to try WPA2 encryption. Anyone want to test, and confirm if it works?
EDIT: WPA2 works perfectly for me. It's nice to be able to have an access point on my android that the teenage neighbor can't hack into
is there anyway of getting this into the hydra kernal?
junjlo:
You will have to ask the developers of hydra-kernel to add:
CONFIG_BCM4329_SOFTAP=y
to the .config file before compiling the kernel.
This is already in the kernel for cm6 and skyraider. It may even be in the other Hydra kernels. We have been messing with it for a while. And it should work with anyone using the leak.
Excellent! Thanks for the info. First post updated.
I just tried this using the CM6 Test7 Rom. The tethering works fine as described, but the change to the kernel caused the "screen tearing" problem to reoccur. This hasn't happened since the early CM6 Roms. I really like the idea of AP tethering but I can't deal with the screen tearing. Maybe I'll try it again on the next CM6 version.
I guess you missed the Part about how you don't need to use the kernel if you're running cm6 or sky raider???
Cm6's kernel should already support ap mode. Simply install the newest apk for wireless tether.
Yeah, I guess I didn't understand that from the OP. So good, I'll try again and let you know how it goes.
Just fyi:
2.0.5 isn't available in the market. The market still lists version 2.0.2
Either get the new version from my zip file, or download it from the developers website.

Sweet, works beautifully! It even informs you when someone jumps on (if you're not secured) and gives you the option to kick them off. I love it. Thank you for bringing this to my (and others) attention. It is MUCH better than the Ad-Hoc Wireless Tethering!
You have just sent me into orbit!! This works beautifully! Thank You to the power of 10!!
Glad you guys love it! Keep the comments coming.
If you could please post the bin file, it would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Edit-Nevermind, I found it. Thanks
do you have to pay fot this, since it is ap just like theone in settimgs
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Spotmark:
Place the bin file onto the sdcard inside a folder called android.tether
Everyone else:
This is only necessary if you don't already have the fw_bcm4329.bin file inside the folder "android.tether" on your sdcard. Chances are, you already have this file on your sdcard. It is only provided for those that don't already have it.
Enjoy.
jdkoreclipse:
Absolutely not! This comes from the developers of the wireless tether for root users project.
The program is identical to the wireless tether app that we've used for ages. This new version allows you to use it in access-point mode instead of ad-hoc, providing you have a kernel that supports it.
Anyone want to back me up?

Since you have the developer edition, are you rooted? If so, why not use the stock framework tether? You can use the Xposed module, or the Entitlement Check remover.
Also, if you are rooted, you can use the latest experimental build of WiFi Tether for Root Users.
Is there a specific reason you are wanting to use FoxFi? The only reason I can imagine is that you are not rooted.....but if you aren't rooted, why did you get the Developer Edition?
@trinniboy68,
I agree with @samwathegreat. If you have a Dev Edition, why not unlock your bootloader and root? It doesn't void your warranty on the Dev Edition. And its pretty easy on the Dev Edition.
If you root, and all you want to do is Tether, then to make taking future OTA's easier, I suggest using Wifi Tether For Root app (See my notes about setup at the bootom of THIS PAGE. )
Another option is [APP][MOD][Root]Hotspot Entitlement Bypass v1.1 5/9/2014, but it does make changes to the build.prop, and while it undoes them, I haven't tested to see if it changes the checksum of the build.prop when it reverts its changes(if it does, that would get in the way of future OTA's)

No 'hacks' for your phone? The entire android SDK is available for MAC. We have several users here who have flashed their phones 100% with MAC.
If you download the MAC Toolkit, it includes everything you need, even though it isn't supported by its devs anymore. You just won't use any of the scripts (that's all that no longer supported). Also, since you have the DEV edition, you WON'T lose your warranty by rooting it. It's HIGHLY unlikely you will brick your phone unless you do something totally stupid that is well documented here (like: you NEVER downgrade or flash older firmwares/versions on your Moto X - this is one of the few ways you can brick it).
Since you have already unlocked the BL, all you would do is fastboot flash TWRP recovery, and it will root for you. Then you can use either method that @KidJoe and I have suggested for you. There honestly isn't much at all you can mess up.
Additionally, once you install TWRP, you can take a full backup that you could restore in the event of a problem. PLUS the SBF images are available, so even without a backup your phone could still be restored back to stock.

Some of these sentences run together, so If I miss anything, I'm sorry.
Rooting wont remove any features of the stock Moto roms. As far as "other roms" duplicating stock, I haven't run anything but the stock rom. While there are "alternates" (like CM) if they are NOT based on stock, they will not have the Moto specific features like active display, always on listening (OK google now....), etc.
I have unlimited data too. I purchased the Dev X since I was going to have to buy an X at full retail because I wanted to keep my Unlimited (and be able to root without waiting on vulnerabilities/exploits).
All I've done is unlocked the bootloader, to root I just flashed TWRP recovery, and installed SuperSU (see -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/step-step-instructions-unlocking-t2649738 although the TWRP and SuperSU versions linked are a little out of date now, they still work on 4.4 and 4.4.2). Then I use Wifi Tether for Root as mentioned earlier, greenify, Root Explorer, Quick Boot (reboot), Adree and not really much else that needs root, and no extra tweaks/hacks. In other words, I run stock, but rooted, with a few apps that need ROOT access, and nothing else modified on my phone.
The tools to flash the stock SBF files are RSDLite and mFastboot. Rsdlite is a GUI tool that flashes the full SBF/XML file, all commands, in like a batch mode. mFastboot is a command line tool that allows you to flash parts/pieces one at a time. I don't know if there is an RSDlite for Mac OS, but there is an mFastboot. So if you mess your phone up badly enough, you can usually recover with the stock images. (the only note being DO NOT DOWNGRADE your ROM!! for more see -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-Downgrade.htm )
thanks

[Q] Moto X AT&T Wifi hotspot / tethering

I am getting of very good price on a Moto X from AT&T. I plan to unlock it for use in Canada.
I am wondering if tethering / wifi hotspot will be available ? since the bootloader is not unlockable and even rooting might be impossible depending on what android version it comes with, i'm worried i might be stuck with it. and the wifi hotspot is a must for me.
any help would be appreciated.

i don't know what ATT's policy is but if you're on a tiered data plan through VZW, tethering is enabled by default.
If you're running 4.4 you're golden can permanent root and disable write protection using slapmymoto, I did it with the toolkit, you can find it here, send me a pm if you need help. If you're on 4.4.2 you can use towelPie to root and the entitlement hack linked below the towelPie root link. I have a moto x verizon locked boot on 4.4.2 and have towelPie set to root at reboot and works flawlessly, but beware verizon is sending 4.4.4 to phones starting today, I got the update downloaded it just to see which update it was and than quickly opened FX explorer and went to the root cache folder and sent it to outerspace LOL and than went to the root/system/pri-apps folder and deleted the 3c_OTA.apk and 3c_OTA.odex files so it wouldn't ever download it again.. beware each time you rebooot you must redelete those two files since towelPie is only good til the next reboot.
After rooting with towelPie than run the entitlement hack linked below.. the dev has set it up to run at reboot, but it doesn't work currently with the 4.4.2 combo using towelPie, towelPie does run and root automatically at each reboot but the entitlement hack is running at the same time during boot and it tries to do its thing before towelPie has done its thing LOL and fails. the solution is easy just run it manually after each boot. works like a charm.
Edit: I have wrote the developer and he has informed me he is going to fix the entitlement hack by placing a time delay in the app so it gives towelPie time to finish root first, so just keep a lookout for his vers. 1.3 in the entitlement hack thread.

[Q] Please help me root my Sony!

[First, I apologize for the double post, but I was getting no answers on the first and thought a different title might help. Also goes toward my first 10 posts which is frustrating, as I want to comment this question directly on the thread I posted a link to below. I suppose this is to prevent spammers, but I really need an answer to this. Also if this is the wrong section, I apologize... seems there is no z1s category.]
Though I am used to androids, this is my first device I am attempting to root. I own a Sony Xperia Z1s running 4.4.4. Kitkat. I've been following these posts http://forum.xda-developers.com/xper...4-4-4-t2839990 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2784900 and thought it sounded plenty easy enough. One issue has popped up though, and I'm fairly certain it has a simple answer that you guys might provide. Here's what I got: my Sony has usb debugging enabled, I downloaded all necessary files (drivers, easy root tool), unknown sources are enabled (as always), and extracted the files so I could run install.bat. It keeps saying tr.apk not found, trying to download from towelroot. Next, as it kept failing, I decided to manually install towelroot (call me crazy here, but I swear every time I plug my phone in, my internet drops off. I'm using a usb wifi bridge thing [whatever you call those], and the blasted thing won't stay. Probably why install.bat can't help me with towelroot)... anyhoo, I opted to direct download the apk on my phone rather than this crappy PC. So, I began again, now with Towelroot. I ran install.bat and got the waiting for device, connect now message. Stuff started happening, libzxploit.so created, doing the magic, etc, and done. It checked if my device was rooted, and came back with error: device not found. error: device not rooted.
Well GREAT. Let's do it AGAIN.
Ran install.bat again. It keeps stopping on creating vm <loljavasucks>. Is it because of my crap signal, or is there something else I am missing? This seems so easy and straightforward, absolutely frustrated i'm having so many issues. Can someone help walk me through? Is it because it's newer firmware? But then why is that XDA thread specifically targeting the Xperia Z1s on 4.4.4. as mine is, and all the comments seem to be "Great, it worked!" and "Rooted my device!"? Am I just unlucky here? Ffs, I just want this damn thing rooted so I don't have to muck through KitKat anymore! Now what am I to do?
Lollipop can't get here fast enough....

You are having the same issue I had when I brought my Z1. KitKat have some issues when you try to root it, specially if you are on KK .157 (LATEST)
Follow this link to download the correct FTF for your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311211
Also, you can try this to root your device (doesn't work with updates AFTER .108 build) http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/development/newroot-z1-t2807092
This is 99% of success.

Hey, thanks for the reply! This is why I loathe KitKat (among other reasons). Love the phone, hate the build.
I'll give this a shot and report back my results!
I should've mentioned this, I forgot. I'm on 14.4.B.0.56
This is what happened when I ran the newroot.exe. It sent the log to my desktop and reported back this:

[Q] [T-Mobile] Is Wi-Fi calling working with root?

So I went back to completely stock/encrypted to flash the new 5.1.1 update with Wi-Fi calling. I want to stay encrypted but I want to re-root my phone. Anyone running the new T-Mobile 5.1.1 build (LYZ28E) with root and having any problems with Wi-Fi calling? I just want to make sure it won't break it if I root... it would defeat the entire purpose of going back to stock.
Thanks!

Flash SuperSU and report back to us, let us know if it works. You can always unroot with ease via SuperSU settings. There is a cleanup option.

I could, but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has done it first.
My biggest concern is that I have yet to see Wi-Fi calling work. I flashed my phone at work using NRT and I am connected to Wi-Fi, and I have enabled Wi-Fi calling (set to Wi-Fi preferred) and I'm not seeing any evidence anywhere that it's active. I'm probably going to have to wait until I get home and try my Wi-Fi there.
My phone is rooted and wifi calling is working. BUT i have several ap's at home. before i had no issue handing off from one ap to the other. now, i have to disable wifi and re-enable to connect to the closest ap. also, the update has completely stopped giving me notifications on my moto 360
No problems for me.
