Please, a quick question about charger and battery packs? - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody has any issues with chargers and external bateries?
My sm-t715 charges only with just a few chargers. I have 6 good quality poser adapters and 3 work fine and 3 do not charge... it shows the x in red in battery icon on status bar.... (check screenshot)

Same with external batteries... i have 4... 2 work and 2 do not work...
Will be any problem with my phone? Or just an normal incompatibility? With my others phone a very few times this happen...

I have the S1 but i assume the S2 is the same, most of my third-party chargers charge at around 600ma and two of those are rated at 2.1amp , the original charger charges at 1550ma, though i have an Nokia 1.5amp charger that charges at 1400ma, So if you buy an third-party charger get it from somewhere you return it if it does not charge your S2 at an decent rate, you are best off buying the same charger as came with your S2, but beware that there are a lot of fakes that charge at a lot slower rate and give a really noisy and spikey output voltage that could damage your S2.
Have a read of the usb charger group test in the link below, It`s a couple of years old, and it does not give any compatibility information it just tests the quality of the charger and shows how bad fake chargers can be.
So my advise is buy an original geniuine Samsung usb charger and cables, and beware of fakes.
Oh, and usb battery banks are just as bad as usb chargers regarding compatibility, most dont charge at acceptable rates.

John.

Same problem over here, most of my 2amp chargers won't work. Luckily my nexus 6 charger works. When the red x shows i've seen a current of only 300mA

Lets just say that you need a good quality and branded charger to work (but not guaranteed), many fakes or cheap low quality charger does not work, as said in the two above post , you need a charger which is stable and true output to work, this also refer to power banks.
Although you do get the X in the display, the charger does still charge is if you really need to charge the tablet, but you have to completely turn off the tablet, although the charging time will be lot slower.
I have many chargers, some from the US, japan and china, and was expecting them to work, but they don't, sometime it's not the charger, but a compatibility between the charger and tablet, Samsung made this tablet and other models to be very picky.

i know most chargers are junk... i dump a lot... but, in this case... all chargers and power banks im talking about, works great with my galaxy note 4 and galaxy s5, the ones that dont work on s2 work great on phones... because of that i was asking if this could be any kind of problem on tablet... or just the tablet is a little more picky than phones

Don't worry it's the way the tablet was made by Samsung, and it's not malfunction or a damage unit, I was like you when I purchased my S2 8.0 7th of this month, with my purchased, I left all the accessories and charger at the Samsung store (my friend works at the official Samsung store), and just took my tablet to china (I live in Hong Kong) right after the purchase to buy accessories like glass protectors, cases and what ever I can find, I had a two pin power adapter I got from Japan at 3.4mAh which seems like a good quality one, although it was made in china, works well, and does have a true output, but it didn't work for the tablet unless it was totally powered down (switched off).
Right now I'm after a small power adapter with two pin, as I don't have one that can power the S2, I have a few original Samsung three pin uk one's, these do not work in china, and I can't seem to find one, too many fakes in china, and many of these two pin adapters sold in hong kong are from china as well, so it's not something I can trust, although the shops states it OEM.
And the Samsung store only sells the UK version, right now if I'm in china I charge it using my power bank, I also have a few of these, and even gave a few away including a official Samsung one, that came with the S2.

Is bottom left, the plug type you are looking for, but you only need a plug with the bottom two pins.

They plug im looking for is a two flat pin, like the one found in the US and Japan, the problem is getting a authentic one, may be I should try one of those Qualcomm 3.0 quickcharge one.
Not much fake going around yet.

You need to have an Snapdragon SOC for the Qualcomm 3.0 quickcharge to work, and the quickcharge website only show galaxy note 4 as compatible.
You could just buy and usb adapter from eBay USA, you know they are genuine because they expensive and the p+p is almost as much as the item itself.

Yep, I know you need the snapdragon soc, as there are no fakes atm, im sure to get a genuine charger to use, even though it wont charger at the super fast rate.
Thanks

Charging that fast cannot be good for the battery, heat damages the battery so when you game or charge fast you reduce the battery`s life, unless they use an special battery.

so you are saying it cannot work as a normal charger for non quick charging unit.

I don't know enough about the qualcom charger to say, hopefully it will work as an normal charger on non snapdragon tablets.
Checkout the website, maybe send them an email and see what they say.

Should be ok, got this from QUALCOMM site.
Q2: My device doesn't have Quick Charge 2.0. Is there a way I can get it?
A: Unfortunately not. Qualcomm Quick Charge technology is designed into a product by the manufacturer. The good news: there is a wide and ever growing list of phones, tablets, mobile routers, and applications that do support Quick Charge technology. Also, since Quick Charge 2.0 is compatible and interoperable, a certified adapter can be used with a non-Quick Charge 2.0 device, though the fast charging benefits of Quick Charge 2.0 will not be available. You can download a .pdf of some supported devices.

The Only Car Charger You Need for the Nexus 7

There are so many threads on car chargers that actually work for the Nexus 7 and yet none of them seem to have reliable answers. Maybe it works, maybe not. Does it do "AC charging"? Is the amperage high enough to keep it running while I use it? Do I have to short Data+ and Data-? Does it work with OEM or aftermarket cables? Is it expensive?
It's enough to make you just want to keep the Nexus in the house. So I'm here to help - just go buy this:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0088U4YAG/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_SC_dp_1
Tom Fagerland was kind enough to provide links from Amazon UK, available in both black and white:
White: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerGen-Ch...ZY/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1351432753&sr=8-15
Black: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerGen-Charger-KeyBoard-Samsung-included/dp/B0088U4YAG/ref=pd_sim_ce_1
It's a 3.1A dual port car charger for $12.99 on Amazon with a full 5/5 review. I just got mine and it's well built, very sturdy (almost OEM quality) and has two USB ports, one for Apple devices "A" and one for non-Apple devices "NA". The "NA" port will charge the Nexus 7 and the "A" port will charge most other non-tablets, including the Galaxy Nexus. It works with the OEM Nexus 7 cable, a Monoprice cable and a Galaxy Nexus cable.
So that's it. Just go buy it and be happy. It will charge quickly if you leave the tablet off but will still charge it if you keep using it.
EDIT 2-11-13: This charger has been charging my Nexus 7 virtually every day (40 mins/day) for over 3 months now with no problems.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you wanting to know some more specifics, here they are. (You don't have to care, honest! Just go buy the thing.)
I did a test with my 7 starting at 40% battery. I did a "worst case scenario" of Wi-Fi on and connected, Bluetooth on, GPS on and using Google Navigation, Spotify streaming and the screen on at 100% brightness throughout charging. I powered the adapter off a variable DC power supply that shows current draw as well as voltage. I used 12.2 VDC to simulate a car's battery. Below is the relevant portion of the battery monitor graph.

It does indeed charge using the "NA" port with no modifications. The power supply showed an average current of 0.50A @ 12 VDC which once converted to 5 VDC is 1.22A not counting for the small loss in the DC-DC converter. It did get as high as 0.62A (1.51A @ 5VDC) but seemed to level out at 0.5A for the vast majority of charge time. (FYI I assume Watt's law applies here when stepping down voltage - feel free to correct me.)
I checked on the progress every 30 mins and here are the results:
00:00 - 40%
00:30 - 48% (+8%)
01:00 - 55% (+7%)
01:30 - 62% (+7%)
02:00 - 68% (+6%)
02:30 - 76% (+8%)
03:00 - 83% (+7%)
This is where I stopped. It seems to be very capable of providing a decent charge while under heavy use. At this point I turned everything off and waited another 30 mins and found it charged another 12% while "idle". At that rate it could charge from empty in around 4 hours. It would take around 7 hours to charge completely if being used heavily, but it's not just "maintaining" a charge or discharging slowly - it's actually gaining a charge.
So there you have it.
Powerful car chargers (2Aand above) usually affect your FM radio reception, how does that one go?
Sounds great!
I checked, and it's available on amazon.co.uk as well, here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerGen-Ch...ZY/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1351432753&sr=8-15

What about the "A" port makes it exclusive to Apple devices only? I own zero Apple devices, so would this dual USB charger effectively be... a single one for my uses?

I think the "A" port does not short the two data pins because Apple doesn't like that. Most Android phones don't seem to care either way though. My Galaxy Nexus works with it, I think a friend's SGS3 works as well. A reviewer notes the Kindle products worked as well. The thing to note is that charging non-Apple devices in the "A" port will only charge them at USB speed. Not perfect but it should do the trick.

If you are rooted and have a kernel setting to enable fast charge on USB, you should be able to use the "A" port for full power. Be sure to turn that feature off, though if you want to swap data with PC.

I tried this on computer USB and the notation in Battery Monitor Widget changed from USB plugged to AC plugged when connected to my computer. milliamps went from 479 to 875. Still will see what happens on various chargers. But to get 875mA from computer's USB port seems pretty darn good.
Thanks a lot for sharing this with us! seriously there are many car chargers than would never work due to low amp!!
Bought this same charger the other day. Arrived yesterday, so far so good! Excellent value for money :good:
Good Deal On Amazon
Thank you for pointing the way about car chargers that work. I have been impressed with this charger doing more than slowing down discharge. I can actually use the larger GPS of my N7 and charge my tethering GS3 at the same time. When purchasing this charger I was offered the 3.1a/15w AC charger for 20% off. It definitely charges like the OEM one. Very happy camper.
What cord are you using with this to charge the nexus?

Another Option
Hey guys - there is another option that is very high quality -
The Scosche ReVIVE II works very well with the nexus 7 (at the same time as a phone too) with the 2.1A charging port. The only catch I found was that I had to short out the data connections - but I did this with a USB extension cable.
Essentially all you do is cut a USB extension cable, reconnect the power wires and then join the two data wires on the device end. This, for someone who has done some soldering, is a super easy job and takes 5 minutes, as well as making sure you don't ruin a perfectly good micro-USB charger.
The reason for shorting the Data is that some devices wont charge to their full potential (ie. only to 500mA) if they dont have the data wires shorted because the device might be connected to a computer - which wouldn't handle the full 1/2A.
anywho, it's a fantastic, very high quality charger and well worth the price.

Charging Cord
I use either my OEM GS3 or N7 for the NA port. I have a Rocketfish USB charging cord when I have to use the A port. I purchased it from BestBuy a while ago, initially for my BB at the time.
This sounds great.
I have a iPod Nano 6th Gen that I keep plugged in all the time, and a USB cable for my Phone. I modified my existing one so my Galaxy Nexus reads it as AC and charges fast, but my N7 doesn't even see it.
The one posted in the OP sounds like it'd be perfect. I could use the A for my iPod and the NA for both my N7 and GN. Fortunately the N7 doesn't require car charging very often
Sadly, Amazon.ca doesn't sell the charger and Amazon.com won't ship to Canada. Has anyone found a good source for this charger in Canada?

Question about the Samsung Qi Charger

I kinda want to get a Qi charger, but I'm not sure whether I should go for the official Samsung one, or a cheaper one from a different brand. Is there anything special about the Samsung one?
No, nothing special, only the design.
Ah okay, good to know. I'll just get a different one then. Don't want to spend 30eu more just for design
Nothing special i have the older model and another brand model both work great
I Had an Aukey wireless charger and got a Samsung one free with my S6 and charging time is a bit different. I tested both chargers with the 0% to 100% charge time and the Aukey gave me 3h25 and the Samsung charger 2h55 minutes. There is a slight difference, also the Samsung has a LED strip around that changes color when charge is complete and since its larger, I don't have to move the phone around to get a signal...I found myself adjusting the phone a bit with the Aukey because the phone kept giving a connect/disconnect sound

Did your charger died? DONT BUY BELKIN HOME CHARGER

Hi, my original charger just died, so i decided to buy a good charger, and i rembember thinking "Well, belkin is a well known company, it should work". Long story short, i bought it for 30dls, worked but it charged at 300mha. So i wanted to punch everyone at belkin.
Apparently this charger is not compatible with the LG G2 and im ****ed.
I just wanted to share my experience so no one here go and buy it.

Thanks for the heads up. Most aftermarket chargers like Belkin are garbage. You'd think that at $30+ it would be top notch, but they're actually made to be as cheap as possible by mediocre engineers so they end up being exceedingly terrible. Not only do they not measure up to spec but the output voltage is unstable and has a TON of noise. It's obviously always preferable to go with a good oem charger when possible. Unfortunately they're somewhat hard to find separately without actually buying something and if you do find one for sale they're are a lot of fakes out there so it can be risky.
By far best chargers that are easily attainable are the apple usb chargers. After comparing the apple usb chargers(both 5w and 12w) and a bunch of other usb chargers(both oem and aftermarket) I have using an oscilloscope at work, the apple chargers have the cleanest output by a wide margin. Just be sure to buy them from a major retailer. It's not worth risking getting a fake because at that point you might as well use the belkin.
Additionally, the original 2014 moto x charger and kindle 5w and 9w changers are also very good.
While I prefer the 1A/5w chargers to extend the life of the battery, you can also get the 9w-12w ones which will charge faster if that's something you need. Be sure to use a quality cable too.
edit:
This guy did something similar to what I did but actually took the time to document it. It's very informative and shows how much quality can vary between different chargers.

You can probably find the same/similar thing on ebay for under $2. But you have to keep in mind that not all usb chargers are created equal, especially these cheap aftermarket ones. While it may charge your devices, the quality of the power it delvers may or may not be good. Not to mention that it might not be made to even minimal safety standards - for both you and the device. Even though the charger you recommend may very well be fantastic, it is of unknown quality. Given that the vast majority of all aftermarket usb chargers are substandard, it can be reasonably assumed that this one isn't an anomaly.
I recommended the apple charger because it's known to be of very good quality and it's easy to find.
Check out this site:
http://www.righto.com/2014/05/a-look-inside-ipad-chargers-pricey.html
The author compares a genuine ipad charger with a fake one. Assuming that the majority of aftermarket chargers are built to the same standard(or worse) as the fake, it amazes me that anyone would even consider using one let alone pay for it. What is the logic in saving a couple bucks and potentially risking several hundred? I would rather spend $20 once and have piece of mind in knowing that I have the best.
you are right, but i've just gave you a link to the pretty cheap charger that works well with G2 and as i've said - it charges my tablet as well...
i don't just buy random stuff on ebay... i always do a little research before buying anything - especially buyer comments & reviews...
and alzashop also doesn't sell crap...
btw ConnectIT brand does a bunch of IT gadgets, usb chargers are just a drop in the ocean...

[Review] Tronsmart Dual USB Wall Quick Charger

Introduction
One can never have too many wall chargers; especially in a day and age where people own multiple devices or live in busy households with many cellphones users under the same roof. I am one of those people, so wall chargers with multiple ports often come in handy. There are plenty on the market, but which one is the right choice? Also, I'm not a professional photographer, so some of the pictures will be less than fantastic, especially when you consider the Nexus 5X I used sucks at close-ups for some odd reason. Anyways, lets dive into the Tronsmart 33W Dual USB wall charger.

Along with the charger, I received boxes of Black and White USB-C and USB-A to USB-C cables (four cables total). This review will not focus on the performance of the cables, as they have already been reviewed here. They do, however, adhere to the USB-C standard.
The packaging is pretty standard. They're cables and chargers, so nothing fancy is really required here. I did notice, almost immediately, the USB 2.0 logo. I'm a little disappointed that the cables are not USB 3.0 but we're really treading into nitpicking territory here. My Nexus 5X isn't USB 3.0 capable but my future devices down the road might be.

My first impressions of the charger are good. It's made of a mixture of textured and gloss plastic, the design itself is quite attractive. There are no visible seems or sharp edges in the plastic. Additionally, it has a nice heft to it, sometimes indicative of quality. The swiveling mechanism moves with an authoritative "snap", inspiring further confidence in the build quality of the product.
As mentioned previously, I received two USB-A to USB-C cables, one black and one white, and two USB-C cables in the same color arrangement. The cables are terrific. The first thing I noticed was that the cables are a bit thinner than the Choetech cables I have (same gauge as the cable that came with the phone), but are far more flexible. The flexibility is nice when charging the phone on my desk so I don't have to bend and manipulate the cable to get it in a state where it's not constantly tugging on my phone. With the less flexible Choetech cable, I felt that sometimes the cable with putting a lot of stress on the charging port of the phone. I don't have this concern with the Tronsmart cables. This is also great for travelling where I can easily coil them up and throw them in a bag without having to twisty-tie them together. The ends of the cables are also a bit nicer as well. The USB-C ends having a sloped, ergonomic shape that fits my fingers quite well.
Design and Features
The charger sits in a normal wall outlet vertically. When plugged in, it has an indicator light that glows green, which is a nice touch, but doesn't really mean anything other than that your wall outlet is working.
The charger has two ports. A USB-C port and USB-A port. The USB-C port is a Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 capable port. An ability that my Nexus 5X can't take advantage of, but is much appreciated by me nonetheless. I'm sure the charging speed will come in handy in the future. The USB-A port is a "Volt iQ" port. Volt iQ is essentially a small circuit that is able to detect the current required by the device that's being charged. It's a pretty cool feature that expands the compatibility of this charger to almost any device, even Apple products or older devices before standards (like 2.1A charging) were set in the industry.
Performance
I'm gonna be honest here, I had planned on presenting a bunch of data and results from readings taken using the popular app, Ampere. Unfortunately, readings were so sporadic I didn't even bother to continue with recording the information. I'm assuming this has more to do with the phone and its battery temperature / CPU usage and less to do with the actual charger itself. I can tell you that a pattern that quickly emerged is that the phone would not charge any faster than 2540mAh from either port, using any of the supplied cables.
2540mAh is a very respectable number and while the phone is capable of charging at 3000mAh, this number doesn't really bother me because, if anything, the battery will stay healthier longer.
It should also be mentioned that immediately after receiving these cables I visited a good friend of mine for a weekend. He has two young dogs, one German Shepherd that's 6 months old. To my dismay, I came downstairs one morning to find the dog chewing on the cable. I removed the cable from the dog's mouth and to my surprise, there was no damage to the cable. If anything this is a testament to the cable's durability. Teething Puppy-Approved.
Overall
Overall, I'm quite happy with the quality and performance of the charger and the cables. I would recommend these products to anyone looking for a good and up-to-spec charger for a decent price.
Additionally, I'd like to thank Tronsmart for the charger, cables and the opportunity.
Nice review, I just picked one of these up.
Got this today, along with a Tronsmart USB type C cable. Phone identifies as charging rapidly, when its both charging alone as well as when it's alongside an iPhone 6S. Seems like a great charger.

One can never have too many wall chargers; especially in a day and age where people own multiple devices or live in busy households with many cellphones users under the same roof.

Hi there and thanks for the great review.
I know I'm a bit late, but hopefully you can still answer this Did you test the out when both USB Ports were in use simultaniously? Does the Output decrease by a noticable amount?
Thanks!

Thank so much for the effort! I need a second charger and figured I might as well get one that my girlfriend and I can use at the same time, she doesn't care how quick her oneplus x chargers, but I hope at least the USB C connector is still quick
thanks!

it's a 33w charger, so it can charge both the type c device (15w) and a quick charge device (18w) at max speeds. a non quick charge phone will also top out, albeit at 12w so you're not pushing the charger to its limit
Not pushing it to the limit if fine for me, I couldn't find a better alternative at that price point so far anyway.

So yesterday my girlfriend plugged her phone (Galaxy S6) into this charger via the VoltiQ port while my phone was already connected and charging via the USB-C port. We took a quick 1 hour nap and my phone was fully charged while hers was only at 45% when we woke up. Charging two devices at the same time should not effect the speed of the charge for either device but I figured I'd follow up with this info. Not sure what happened, maybe the phone throttled the charging because the battery got warm.
Its been confirmed this is an out of spec charger...

Sony Quick Charge 3 UCH12... many fakes on Ebay

Please don't buy low price quickcharge Sony adapter:
on the right the one i've purchased as bulk original Sony UCH12 from a Ebay uk professional seller, on the left a original one purchased directly by Sony via Amazon.
On the right you can see a Counterfait Sony logo (different font, the O and N are completely different), blurred, smaller and totally unusable qr-code and misaligned text.
On the other side the Sony engraved logo are identical and there are very small differences (blurred and smaller quickcharge 3 and pump2 logo near usb connector)
Hmm, I'm was looking at buying some Sony ucb20 cables, the same that came with the phone, from eBay (China sellers). At little more than $7 for 3, I might take the risk.
Charges with 1900ish mA, and 2000mA with the screen off. https://www.ebay.com/itm/30W-Quick-...l-Charger-Adapter-EU-US-UK-Plug/263138546203?
Measured with Ampere Pro. The Anker PowerCore Speed 10000 QC Qualcomm QC 3.0 Charger with the screen on managed 2020mA.
Another fake from Ebay. Made by SANY
Fire hazard concerns? Would you trust the one I bought? A little concerned. Would like to buy the original Sony charger, but not available in the country I live in.
Measured mine to 25C-29C with an infrared sensor.
Its not the temp you need to worry about. Its the cheap components inside that will explode. Dont risk your life/home!
Ok, guys, i think i should warn u all about what happened to me.
I bought the cheapest Quick Charge 3.0 on ebay available from China, pretty easy to find it, it's the most common, if u do a quick research.
Just to be clear, this one:
Well, i don't know HOW exactly, but this pieace of crap makes my Xperia crazy, i made a video so you guys can understand:
https://youtu.be/KQf1-kImyBM
Funny thing is i thought the problem was the phone itself, some kind of hardware fault (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74418930&postcount=18)...
The black charger you see on the left is one original LG from my previous Nexus 5,of course no problems with that (unfortunately just up to 1400 mAh, don't know if it's barely Quick Charge 2.0...?)
Can somebody tell me what is safe to buy?
Some more pictures of my fake charger.
Tronsmart, Anker, uGreen are good products. I have a cliptec QC2.0 3A charger and it easily charged my previous moto x play at 2.4A maximum. Somehow it could only charge the xz1c at 1.8A I have no idea why.

Thank u for the advices!
About your doubts, i think u answer yourself. Im pretty sure the charger has to be QC 3.0, not just 2.0, regardless how much Ampere u see written..? Or am i mistaken?
So has anyone been able to actually charge their XZ1C at QC 3.0 speeds? I'm topping out at 2030 mAh with the provided UCH12 and USB cable that came in the box with the phone.

The xz1/c does not come with UCH12.
Hi everyone,
I think I've been taken in by an ebay dealer as well.
The charging speed doesn't differ much to the charger that came with the phone.
To be sure, does the XZ1/c say 'rapid charging' or simply 'charging' on the lock screen when it's connected to an UCH12 charger? In my case it says 'charging' but I guess it should be 'rapid charging'...
Many thanks,
SirLoKi
any other reliable third party companies besides anker? kinda pricey for cables and chargers..
