What should my version/build number be? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 2014 moto x pure (not rooted) running 5.1. The version number is 23.1.28 and build LPE23.28. I saw a thread elsewhere with a posted stagefright patch, but the version number in the prereq's does not match mine. I didn't get lollipop OTA, I just downloaded it from another thread sometime around when the soaktest went out (sometime in the spring?).
Anyways, I'm wondering why my version number does not match, and also wondering if, by downloading the last update and installing it myself, I have lost the ability to recieve OTA's Thanks anyone who might have advice.

This is my Xt1095 with the latest ota

I think I figured out what to do. After snooping around a bit, I think I have to unlock my bootloader, downgrade to 5.0, and reup to the latest build of 5.1. Does that sound about right?
Here is my current system info.

Ah now I understand, you had a typo when you first posted your version number. Now that is not what you need to do. My suggestion is to unlock your bootloader, but DO NOT downgrade. Just download the 5.1 image from here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/17go3dvt60b/VICTARA_TMO_XT1095_5.1_LPE23.32-21.3_cid9_CFC.xml.zip then flash it to upgrade your system to the correct version.
Downgrading then taking OTAs can cause bricks, so I do not recommend that you downgrade.

From your experience, can I flash the newer lollipop version w/o unlocking bootloader?
Sent from my XT1095 using XDA Free mobile app

I know you can flash the same version... and that downgrade does not work.
But I have no clue if upgrade works while the bootloader is locked. It won't hurt to try, if it does not let you there is no damage done. Let me know if it lets you with a locked bootloader for future reference.

So JUST TO MAKE SURE, I can upgrade from lollipop version 23.1.28 to version 23.32-21.3 without downgrading? Just want to be 100% because I'm not very experienced at this. I will try it with the locked BL first and let you know how it goes, of course.

Update: still haven't gotten around to upgrading, but I did unlock the bootloader. Do you have any idea why other posts on this forum are saying it is so important to downgrade and then re-upgrade?

Those posts are old, read the dates. Those posts were made BEFORE the full firmware file was available. The directions have changed since those posts. The way I am instructing now is the safest and less likely to brick your phone.

First, you need Stock recovery on your phone. Since you have ATT, you likely have a locked bootloader so you do have it in place.
Next, inside the OTA is a manifest file. It contains a list of files and their check sums it expects to be on your phone. If the files are missing, or the check sum doesn't match, the OTA will fall. So you likely changed or deleted something on your phone which the OTA needs to be there.
Did you do any hacks? change or remove any APK files?
Oh, and lets not forget.. Since you have ATT and a locked bootloader (unless you paid for a code from the Chinese site), if you've rooted using RockMyMoto, SlapMyMoto or the like, and used MotoWpNoMo to disable write protection... after you get 4.4.2 OTA to install, you'll keep root but the effects of MotoWpNoMo will be undone, and you'll have Write Protection ENABLED... so anything you need to change in /system or the like wont survive Power Off/On (aka hard boot). So you won't be able to update SuperSU later, etc.. making Root pretty useless.

Do you know what steps I would need to take to get this OTA? I might skip it completely if it's not simple enough. I'm on NAE, rooted currently. I would probably need to reflash through Odin I assume?

That would be the simplest way. Or you could wait a bit until the NG2 .tar is posted and just Odin that.
Does anyone have the FNG2.tar? Posting it would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance

I was rooted on stock rom --- I took the ota by mistake not thinking. Lost Wifi and root. Had to go into recovery and restore.

Flashed 4.4.2 sbf over 4.4.4

My bootloader is unlocked. My stock rom was messed up with system modifications and I tried to go back to pure stock. So i tried flashing 4.4.2 sbf file but i am already on 4.4.4. I didn't know that before that you cannot downgrade from 4.4.2 or higher.
The thing is I run the following commands
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
{

}
i didn't run the subsequent commands
and tried rebooting phone immediately
the phone is working fine as such(system modifications are still present and i want to get rid of them).
I read somewhere that if you try to downgrade you may/will brick your device. And also of a guy who did something like this (downgraded from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 and it was working fine until he took an OTA, that OTA bricked his device)
Are there any chances of me bricking my device?
Your system shows 4.4.2 now? If so, yes....taking an OTA will very likely brick you. And those ones are much harder, or impossible to fix.

You'll be eventually able to flash L manually too.
But as long as you are confident you've never downgraded your bootloader version...you'll be fine. If you have, or are unsure....best not to OTA.

In my settings build number remains unchanged. Do this confirm that my bootloader is not downgraded?
And even if its downgraded can I manually flash Android L sbf?

I'm in a similar situation as op. reason why i don't do what you say is: there is no official 4.4.4 image from Motorola. and i have no idea where rdslite came from nor its source code.
what i did is email Motorola support repeatedly for an official 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 images because they sold us developer devices and promised support. it's ridiculous that they only offer 4.4.2 to download for restore.

I need to flash the original system image to re lock the boot loader.
but since my phone was sold to me on android 4.4.3 (or I accepted a OTA update from Motorola as soon as I received it) I cannot use the old android 4.4.2 system image you provide.
since Motorola is already even providing updates to 4.4.4 I demand at least the 4.4.3 to be made available. if not the 4.4.4

I had this happen with an unlocked Motorola HD and I had to flash the correct modem . If your using T mobile you probably aren't unlocked just Sim unlocked. If that's the case you need to flash an att version of 5.0 you can not revert back to 4.4.4 unless you are unlocked not Sim unlocked . If you really are unlocked then you can find a easy tutorial on this site. Good luck I didn't fix my atrix until I bought a new phone lol

Nexus 6 stuck in 7.0 but getting montly patches

My N6 is still waiting 7.1.1 OTA, surprisingly, security patches come on schedule, but almost three months after release, OTA is not coming. Yes, I know I can sideload it, but one of the reasons I decided not to root it was not losing the ability of OTA updates.... any hint?
Thanks.

You can flash the stock rom and you will receive OTA . Unlocking bootloader dosen't mean root.
You WILL receive OTA updates just do as follows
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash latest fastboot images
3. Lock bootloader - optional.
Make sure you don't keep TWRP recovery. It isn't that good for installing OTA packages via system update.
Please follow the guides if you don't know how to do them. Download the latest one named 7.1.1

@Pocket_rocket Just a warning though... Unlocking your bootloader will wipe your device.
Use the full OTA image instead. I believe there's no need for an unlocked bootloader then.
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Edit: a word of caution... If you decide to sideload the OTA, it's not a bad idea to keep your bootloader unlocked. If anything goes wrong along the way, you can then fix it.
And about the update issue. Are you on AT&T? They haven't approved 7.1.1 yet...
Edit 2 (I just woke up, gimme a break ): If you use Android Pay or anything else dependent on SafetyNet, you can't keep your bootloader unlocked (without further tinkering) since that triggers SN.

Hi Didgeridoohan, Mine is now NBD92D (AT&T version and update thru OTA) but I don't see any AT&T logo on the back and my city(HK) does not have any AT&T service. Do you have any idea on this(Actually my Nexus 6 is from Australia).
In addition, if I keep sideload the OTA image N6F26U will cause any problem(except the Android Pay)? As you mention that Google does not approve any 7.1.1 AT&T version(Just tried to sideload N6F26U, it said can't install over a newer version).
Thanks so much in advance.

No. I'm on Vodafone (Spain) but I purchased this phone right on Amazon, so no pesky carrier should be acting as a man in the middle, I guess...
I mean, the phone runs decently well, but, given the fact that 7.1.1 will be the last update for this model, I want it. I wonder if is just a matter of patience or there is some other issue that is preventing my phone to get the OTA.
Thanks.
I have the same issue, m on NBD92D, which seems to ATT only, but there's no AT&T in India. I tried sideloading N6F26U, but it didn't work. Any idea how I can get 7.1, apart from waiting?
