[Review]CHOETECH Iron Stand Qi Wireless Charger

So a few nights ago, I got a message from someone with CHOETECH. They'd seen that I had posted here about my Stadium Qi charger and asked if I'd be willing to try out the new Iron Stand charger. Of course I said yes - their timing couldn't have been better as I was planning on buying a stand charger soon. I only had the one and was getting tired of bringing it back and forth between work and home (not that it was a pain, but if I'd forget it I'd be grumpy ).
Packaging
The packaging was quite nice. I don't recall what the Stadium packaging was like, but a lot of stuff from China doesn't even come in a box. Quality packaging left an immediate positive initial impression.
Contents
The box contained the Iron Stand charger, a 5V 2A power adapter, USB cable, a "User Manual", and a card with instructions what to do if you were either happy (post a review, recommend, etc) or unhappy (contact their customer service) with the product.
Build Quality
First impressions - this thing is really nice. My wife, very non-tech type, even comment on how nice it looks. The stand is made of what appears to be some sort of aluminium alloy. The charging plate is in the middle and very polished (it's quite reflective). On one side is the power port and 4 blue indicator LEDs. The LED on the Stadium is very bright, but it's more subtle here on the Iron Stand. On the bottom of the stand is soft rubber that gives it a really good grip so that it doesn't slide around. Also, the USB cable that it comes with seems to be pretty high quality, on par with the Anker cables I've got. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the quality of this charger.
Capability
Using my S6 Edge with a Ringke Fusion cover, positioning the device so that it gets a charge is very simple - it picks it up right away, vertical or horizontal. However, I found that it seems to get a faster charge when horizontal. When horizontal I get a charge on par with the Stadium charger, but it's a tad slower when vertical. Must just be something with the placement of the coils not being quite right for the S6. Aside from that, it does work well. I've had no issues with it overheating. Every once in a while the screen will kick on when fully charged, but I think this is probably a result of something draining my battery just enough to get it below 100%. Seems about the same as the Stadium on that front.
TL;DR - The Iron Stand is a really good choice for a stand Qi charger. Build quality is great, charging is on par with what you should expect from a Qi charger.

I wonder that just before reading this post, I watched a video of the same wireless charger charging the Note 5! But i don;t think the Smartphone he used in that video is Note 5! The charger is nicely built for strong usage. Choetech built it with good quality materials. Iron stand used as charging pad is of great quality and full functional to place the mobile devices either in portrait or landscape mode. The good thing about that stand is you can watch videos while the phone is in charging. No more clumsy wire that connects your mobile and charger. LED lighting shows the status of your wireless charging. Thanks for great post.

I hadn't seen that video. You are right though, that's not the Note 5 - my guess is that it is the S6 Edge+. With my regular S6 Edge, there's still a bit of room on either side of the stand (3 or 4 mm). I looked at the Note 5 just the other day at a Sprint store and it isn't that much bigger than an S6, so my guess is that it will be physically fine on this charger. However, this is a normal Qi charger putting out a max of just 1A of 5V current. The Note 5 and S6 Edge+ have some sort of enhanced Qi capabilities that Samsung is touting as Wireless Fast Charging that requires one of the fast charging adapters. This charger doesn't support that.

I received a sample of this charger as well, and wanted to comment on it.
I had previously been using a Itian wireless charger and was very happy with how it worked on both my S6 Edge, and my Nexus 6.
The CHOETECH iron stand came in a nice package, and the coils on the stand were protected in shipping bu clear film.
Once out of the package, I noticed that the vertical stand angle was better than my Itian model, allowing my phones to stand up even more vertically, which is something I like. With my phones turned on its side, the Itian worked just fine on both my S6 Edge and my Nexus, but CHOETECH was a little picky about how i positioned my Nexus when turned sideways; eventually, I found a good spot for it, and it worked just fine on both phones.
The only that I didnt like when comparing the 2 brands, was that the CHOETECH charger charges slower than the Itian does, but eventually it does charge both of my phones 100%.
Either charger would make a nice addition to your charging inventory, and I will say the CHOETECH charger is a bit more attractive, if you prefer an "industrial" look.
Either way, both of these units work well, so the choice is yours!

I've not noticed any hear issues at all. I use the iron stand at home and the stadium at work. Construction is very good quality.

CHOE Circle Qi Wireless Charger (Review)

Bottom line, the TL;DR version, I really like this charger. Of the three I now own, it's now definitely my favorite. It's large enough to make aligning your device simple and effortless (this is the only wireless charger I have where I don't feel like I need to double check to make sure that my Nexus 7 is sitting on it correctly) and small enough to not take up much space on a surface or in a bag or pocket. With the light around the edge of the charger, it's easy to see whether or not your phone is actually charging, whereas on other chargers, the indicator light is usually obscured by whatever device is sitting on top of it charging.
And don't worry about the light being a nuisance in a dark rook — one of the attached photos (the one where you can't see anything but the charging LED of my phone) was taken of the the charger charging a phone with the camera pointed directly at the light. As you can see, it won't bother you at night. One more thing, the light doesn't go around the entire circle of the charger. It only lights up about a third of it.
If you're looking for the type of charger that you can just set your phone on that isn't a dock, I'd consider this one.
Now on to the rest of my review...
When I was offered a chance to try this wireless charger, I had very low expectations. I currently own two other wireless chargers. One is actually another CHOETECH brand charger which I've been very content with (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JA7HNZO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00) and the other is the PowerBot "puck" wireless charger which I am not very fond of at all (http://www.amazon.com/PowerBot®-PB1...373&sr=8-2&keywords=powerbot+wireless+charger). My initial expectations were based on the latter since it is a similar shape (round) to this circle CHOETECH charger.
My biggest complaint with the PowerBot charger was that the size and shape of it just made it less ideal for charging a large phone or tablet. Basically, attempting to tap your screen while it was charging meant making your phone wobble everywhere and, since the charger is so small in comparison, it's impossible to see the indicator light so that you know the phone or tablet is on the right spot and charging. I figured these issues would just be inherent with round chargers, but that was not the case with this CHOE circle charger. It turns out I really like this charger, but I wish I could have got the black model instead.
The ring around the edge of the charger is rubbery to provide grip. For my leather back G4, that did nothing since the phone doesn't lay flat, however my Nexus 7 is held firmly in place so I don't have to worry about it sliding around. It comes with a decent sized USB cable (off the top of my head,I think it's two or three feet). The indicator light is well lit in light, more than enough to let you know it's working, and then it's basically not there in the dark.
There's really not much more to say. It's a great charger and I think $20 for it isn't bad at all.
5/5 if I had to rate it.

I would like to anwser you, this wireless charger works great.
I'm useing anther item more than two years.

I had this circle Qi charger for my girlfriend. Mini size is perfect for girls.

Wireless charging would be so cool and convenient. I have three all over the house and hardly ever use my wired charger now. I also have this Choetech circle qi wireless charger that supports fast charging for my Note 5. But it would be great if it was a dock instead a pad.

Looking so cool!

I feel like I need to review this as well, because I have so many wireless charging pad and I had to compare them with this. and it was an amazing experience.
Now, my co-worker is rocking with her S6 with the thick case, my generic charging pad couldn't even detect the phone to charge where as this Choetech had no problem charging through the thick case.
the case is about 5mm thick on the bottom, thats about 0.2 inches, still charges, nice!
also charges my moto 360 without any problems, guess what though! it charges my moto 360 upside down too!! that was amazing. so Choetech must have considered phones with thick cases that are having hard time wireless charging. I'll definitely put this company in my shopping list for my future mobile devices accessories from now on. they have earned my business.
it outputs to about 5w when charging, so it will take about 3 hour'ish to top off your phones, and about 45 minutes for your smart watches.

Picked up this charger based on this thread and really like it so far. I was worried about the brightness of the light ring for when I sleep but it is extremely dim, to the point that it doesn't add any light to the room.
I'm using the stock charger with it and have pulled the wireless&nfc sticker from an ankway circle case (I officially must hate circle cases) and installed that to my original plastic back cover. I also have the cruiserlite bugdroid case on the phone and it still works great. I took a 3.5 hour nap and the phone was 100% charged from 22% when I woke up. I'm sure it hit 100% before I woke up.

I know there are tons of wireless charger out there, but what I truely like about this one is the charging halo notification light that automatically dims and or turns off completely when in a dark room (shown in my video below). I got this charger in the bed room on a side table and once the lights go out, the charging notification light itself goes dark. It simply is a useful feature if you are someone sensitive to any light while sleeping.
Obviously this nor any wireless charger will not compete with the speed of the stock wall charger or other wired quick chargers, but for me it helps eliminate those "oops" situations. For example, I woken up too many time to find that in my last moments before crashing for the night I didn't actual plug the micro usb cable completely into my phone. With my luck it always happens on a day when you wake up late for work and will need your phone the most. I'm sure you all have done it at one point. Fun times.
I should add, even if you don't have your phone perfectly aligned on this charging surface it still charges with ease. I'm surprised how forgiving it is when compared to a original Google Nexus wireless charger which had to be absolutely perfectly aligned. That thing drove me crazy.
The one thing I'll warn is that this unit does not come a wall adapter (AC to DC invertor) so you either need to use the stock Samsung wall adapter or another one that has 2amp 5v output or higher. I tested it on a 1.8amp 5v adapter and it still worked, but that will lengthen the charge time. Can't say by how long at this point.
I got another CHOETECH wireless charger in my car and have no problems. So far I'm pretty impressed with this brand. Anyway, below are some pics and a video I made with Samsung video app....

This design looks similar to the Samsung Wireless Charging Pad. Cool accessory and the price $19 is tempting. The lighting thing is a gimmick. The only regret that it is a common single coil charger.

Here are some tests I read of both the Choetech Circle and the Samsung wireless charging pad from Talkandroid. All tests were done during a timed 30 minutes of charging with a few days in between and after various restarts of the Galaxy S6 Edge.

75% -> 91% (without case) (16% increase)
05% -> 23% (without case) (18% increase)
Samsung
24% -> 43% (with case) (19% increase)

How is it a gimmick? While other chargers stay lit all day and all night (even when you're trying to sleep), this one automatically dims in darkness. I've heard plenty of people complaining about wireless chargers being obnoxious during the night due to their always-on LEDs, yet this one doesn't have that issue. I like the light. It's lit enough around the edge so that you can clearly see that you're charging your device (very helpful for my Nexus 7) and then it's out of sight when I'm laying down for bed.
I can see how the single coil aspect of it can be seen as a downside, but I honestly have no issue with using this charger vs the PowerBot charger I still own. Maybe this is just big enough that I always place my devices on the "sweet spot"?

What is great about that is you don't have to put the device exactly in the middle for it to work. That is really efficient.

It's a single coil pad and won't have a wide charging area, so you need to put at the exact central for better working.

It's pretty lenient. I haven't had any problems aligning my G3, G4, or Nexus 7.

I agree with you. A key feature of the T517 is the blue LED integrated into the base. The LED is connected to an ambient light sensor, a unique feature for a wireless charger. When a room is darkened, the LED automatically turns off in a surprisingly useful ability. It's good to have the sometimes distracting light dim itself as the ambient light falls as it prevents the glowing charger from commanding your attention while working at a desk. It could also help with sleeping if the device is used in a bedroom.

So far I have two wireless chargers, the the Nokia Wireless Charging Stand (DT-910) and the Anker Ultra-Slim Qi-Enabled Wireless Charging Pad. Most wireless charger output a maximum of 1A. The thing that differentiate Choe Circle Qi Wireless Charger from the rest of my wireless chargers is basically the indicator ring light which adds a cool factor.

I have a Nexus 6. The CHOETECH wireless charging works both my S6 edge and Nexus 6. There is a built-in lightning sensor on the wireless charger that will automatically dim/turn off the indicator light when the room is dark. It works well as shown in the quick video below.

I got this charger a week ago and it works really well. It is easy to position the S6 Edge correctly for charging and the ambient light sensor is a big plus (that's the feature that made me buy this product). I use my phone as an alarm clock and most wireless chargers have disturbing LED's. This one just dims the LED when the lights go out.
My phone is charged 100% every morning but I never checked how long it takes to get there.

Having been using this CHOE T517 qi charger for a month. Here are my general feedback:
The design is compact and extremely portable, the automatic dim-off design very impressive.
Charging good so far. I like charging overnight, I don't know the exact hours to charge 100% completely for my phone. But a thick case may slow down the charging speed, so it's best to take off the case if you have a case on your phone.

Seems the price drops a bit, two bucks cheaper than mine. (I bought it at $19.)

How about the quality and charging speed? I had one Anker qi charger at 12 bucks only. It does seem to be made of metal vs plastic in the other ones.

Thanks for the review. My wife and I are both annoyed at any light while sleeping. I avoided the Samsung charger because of this. I just ordered two of these. Too bad they're on backorder til the 12th.

Yes it blocks the USB port but I always SMB stuff from my nas box so that's not a problem.

You're lucky if you ever get even 500mA out of it. Every Chinese Qi pad vendor overstates the power on their product. Still, nice to have the option. Let us know how it goes

Iiinteresting, ordered one of those through Amazon. Even if it's only 500mA it'll be nice to have, I just hope it doesn't mess with NFC stuff. Looks like it shouldn't given that the antenna for that is near the camera according to the manual.

The receiver coil looks bigger than the ones I've seen before so maybe 1 amp is a possibility, i'll let report when it eventually gets here.

Quick review
Got the pad now and here is my initial review
Clearly the photo on the advert is a bit of a lie as the coil is about half the size as you can see in the photo below.
The pad is situated to far too the top on the Nexus 5X and sticks out where the fingerprint reader is. This can be easily fixed by cutting a bit off the top, as the coil does not come right to the edge this can be done without ruining the receiver.
THe bit that plugs into the USB socket sticks out which is a bit annoying but not the end of the world.
On my Zens dual Qi charger it took just less than 4 hours to charge from 36% to full so it's not super fast but not that bad over night. The phone indicated slow charging and was AC charging by the battery usage page.
It seems to have no problem staying connected as long as you are aware where the coil is on the pad (towards the top) and has no problem charging through my case
It does not appear to interfere with the radio antenna at all so thats ok.
Also it's super slim so should not interfere with most cases
So in conclusion its fine for me as I rarely need to charge the phone except for overnight, and I have not been using the faster charger anyway.
In case anyone is wondering the case is a Nillkin Matte Super Shield Hard Shell Case which is super nice though the black was a mistake

Good to know it fits under a Nillkin case, as that's what I have for my Nexus 6P. I ordered a receiver on the 25th, hope I get it soon.

The charging on mine seems rock solid but the zens dual does have a pretty big target area to put the coil in.

While fiddling with it the qi pad I have it only really works when the thing is outside my case in one exact spot. So... given that it worked fine for someone else I went hunting on Amazon and found a better looking unit.
We'll see Saturday when it gets here if I chose the right one.

Woot, got a full charge overnight with the new qi pad so that old pad is basically crap.

How thick is the pad? I'm wondering if it would be possible to remove as many unnecessary part from it and try to fit it under the back cover of the phone. And also solder it directly to the charging board so that the USB would be still usable

There is padding over the battery on the back case you can remove if it's too thick

Has anyone else been having problems with theirs?
For a couple days now it's charged to full and then the next morning it'll be less than 100%. Yesterday it was at 89%, today it was at 93%. I did verify it was at 100% yesterday before I went to bed.

I don't have one of these, but I might have a possible explanation. I used to use a 0.7 amp or 1.0 amp charger for charging the 5X overnight. Seemed to work at first, but then it started showing less than 100% in the morning. What seemed to happen from the battery graph is it would charge to full, then start draining (slowly) and not top up again. So I think the low power just didn't trigger it to start charging again once the battery drained a little.
I put it on a 2 amp charger and it now is 100% in the morning. If your phone acts like mine, it might be due to the lower power from wireless charging.

What seemed to happen from the battery graph is it would charge to full, then start draining (slowly) and not top up again. So I think the low power just didn't trigger it to start charging again once the battery drained a little.
I put it on a 2 amp charger and it now is 100% in the morning. If your phone acts like mine, it might be due to the lower power from wireless charging.

Yeah.. I was kinda thinking that a little, good to see it confirmed. Not sure how much the pad was getting but the sending unit was only drawing ~1A so that's the issue there...
Oh well, it was a nice experiment, would have been better had it actually worked though. Back to the included charger it is then.

Just a note from years of experience with these Qi chargers:
There's some inherent loss in efficiency. Essentially, your wall charger is working to spin current around in a coil, which then by magnetic induction causes current to spin around another coil (in your phone), that then feeds into the battery. It's indirect, there's no contact, and some phone materials can even impede it (just one reason these stupid metal wannabe-iphones luddites keep demanding are a terrible idea ).
Bottom line is - you need a charger that's over an amp, closer to 2a if possible, to spin some of these Qi chargers up enough that it makes a large enough field to get to the Qi coil in your phone and charge it efficiently. Ones that come with tablets seem to work fine - I have my Nexus 7 charger on my office Qi (which is angled and serves dual duty of holding my phone for easy reading and viewing).
I'm actually more interested personally in an internal Qi option - solder it in, invisible.
True story - I did that with my S3 before I got an S5, and it worked great. Didn't have to bother when I got an S5, since they sold an optional Qi battery door for the S5. ...don't get me started on my hatred of the design philosophy that excludes removable battery doors.
Anyway - I just picked up a 5x, reluctantly ditching many of the features I had on my S5, to try Google Fi service out.
Wireless charging is something that I'm very interested in - I have wireless chargers literally installed (meaning: hidden, routed wires) in my car, office, and house, specifically to avoid that dorm-room spaghetti-everywhere aesthetic. "Wireless... it's not just for convenience anymore."
Hopefully there's a thread with step by step instructions on a good Qi pad and identified soldering points to install internally?

Such a thread exists. Someone also offers a service doing the soldering for you. I might be able to find it...

That may exist today, but certainly didn't exist when the S3 was the current flagship phone.
Back in those years, the popular (and nearly 'only', here on XDA) modification was to buy the Palm Pre battery door and charger (non-Qi) and use those parts.
Since Palm had recently gone bust, $20 would get you all the parts you need - including Palm's proprietary charger base, a receiver sticker, even a charger.
And honestly, I have to say the Qi charger gets much hotter than the Palm system, so there might be an argument there for it being technically 'better than' the Qi systems. Qi is simply the standard today.

So now with the news that there are some accessories(chargers and cables) that are not compliant with the USB type C specifications, I wonder if these wireless pads are compliant with the specification?

I would really like to purchase the Samsung Qi fast wireless charger
but I have a few questions about it before I buy one.
#1: How much slower is the fast wireless Qi charger when compared to
the standard samsung fast usb charger which comes with the phone?
#2: Does the phone get hot or very warm when it's charging wirelessly?
#3: Does the phone charge slower when it has a one piece case on it?

It´s just with me or it is difficult to put the phone on the right place to charge
I used a few times because of this, depend of the place where you put to charge, of course I am putting on the middle, the phone centred haha

I bought one from here and it was legit (not fake). Buy one and if you don't like it, send it back. I dock my phone every night I go to sleep. It has a very quite fan noise and the charging light notification is bright, but some electrical tape can take care of it.

I have both, the flat and the tilted charger from Samsung. I got an extra at Radio Shack going out of business, gutted it, and put it under the cubby hole in my car to charge while driving. The flat one I have next to my computer and use it rarely. The tilted charger, be warned. The lip of it where the phone sits is extremely narrow; 3 weeks after I got my Edge 7, it became an Olympic ski jumper, slid off the charger, off the desk, and right into the metal rail on my bed and cracked the housing at the charging port. I really only use the home chargers when I go to bed, and the one in my car while driving 40 miles to and from work. I like them because I've been getting Ringke cases that have port covers, and using the wireless, I don't risk marring the finish trying to connect a cable. It's funny how many people see it, either at work, or when I installed it in the car, and really like the idea. I never take my case off to charge, and never really notice it being any hotter than if I were using it for an extended time period.

I know, but you are thinking of buying one. I'm simply giving you a link, if you decide to buy one, to a REAL Samsung fast wireless charger for a good price. The market is flooded with fake ones at low prices. Usually, if the price is fairly low, then it's a fake Samsung product.

Every time i use it (with s6 edge+ or s7 edge) it charges, no problem at all, even with the cases (s6e+ has verus high pro shield and s7e has spigen case rugged armor)

I don't have Samsung QI Charger, I got my QI Wireless Charger from Anker, Very great quality for the half of price and do the same job
Since i am not using fast charging via cable and always charge the regular - slow - way so i got the regular one from Anker, Charge time is as same as the cable time.
No major heat or something just the regular warmth, and working fine with cases.
I like it, very easy to just place the phone and wake away , no cables or USB Port damage, Won't back to regular charge

#2: It gets warm even with the fan at the back of the charger running all the time.Not hot and not very warm.
