Tab S2 vs Nexus 9 - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
As the title says I can't decide whether I want to buy the Nexus 9 or the Tab S2,
The battery on the Tab S2 seems to be bad, but the screen is AMAZING
Please help me decide

Hi, battery isn`t bad......mine is very very good.......i play a lot of games, last time, if i went home, playing 1,5h, if I´m at home, it´s at 85%............Nexus 9 have no SD Card Slot........Display is much better........

Hi, I traded my nexus 9 for the tab s2. Battery is better than nexus 9, screen is much nicer and not to forget the weight difference. I would say that the performance is pretty equal in real use. Benchmark is a different story.

Have had the nexus 9 since it was out and the tab s2 710 for a few days. My bias is to prefer the nexus 9 ...but so far turns out I prefer the s2. What's better in s2:
- screen far better
- performance: ui is noticeably more fluid, less screen redraws due to low memory
- build quality a bit higher
What's better in nexus 9:
- it's a nexus: easier to customise, easier & quicker access to updates, variety of roms and kernels
- battery a bit better
- on screen buttons plus expanded desktop worlds better for me than hardware buttons
- no touch wiz

+1 I entirely agree, I own both tablets.
And I have compared them side by side.
Battery are similar, depending of your main usage.
Tab s2 is very responsive and the ui flies when you deactivate the animations, no lags, no bothering reloads with background apps.
I always was an anti Samsung and a pro HTC, but the nexus is too slow (except if you play huge games where it excels) with its ui and lags..
The screen of the HTC is better FOR PHOTOGRAPHER because it's more real, but less pleasant for all other activities.
The on screen button of the HTC nexus are a big plus for me, the option of mirroring the screen and expandable storage are a big plus with the Samsung.
All in the balance I will return back....the nexus 9! [emoji6] [emoji121]

Buy the S2 and spare yourself the grief from the miserable Nexus 9. I just switched and couldn't be happier!

In the s2 everyone btc how great s2 is. I wonder wjat owners think now. I can buy both but I bet nexus 9 will have much longer developer support while for s2 there is a constant struggle of scarcity and no custom kernels which means that nexus 9 will beat it with cpu everywhere?

Samsung galaxy note or S3 ?

Well the thread name practically says it all.I have a small possibility to trade my note plus some money to get a S3 . What do you say ?, is it worthy?.I mean , by simply looking at the specs someone could say that s3 has some better specs (better cpu, more os support),still it has smaller screen too.So please share your thoughts about this, as i could be getting it this week probably.
Get the s3 if you don't use the spen and don't mind a slightly smaller screen size. Everything else is better on the s3.
S3... or s4

May be kitkat will do the same to s3 as JB did to note. On paper yes it is a better phone but the screen is what I cannot take.
if u care about the screen quality, especially amoled pure black screen, then dont trade with s3.. i recently buyed s3 and compare it with my note, the black color are not deep enought compare to note pure deep black color.
but if u like perfomance then trade it
for me note are more satisfied than s3..

Note 4 to S7 (not S7 Edge), would you do it?

I've been thinking about it for the past 2-3 days. Went to check out the phone at a store and I think it's pretty good.
Of course I ll sell my Note 4 and end up paying around 350$, but is it worth it?
The size seems perfect, the camera menu is good, speed as expected is also good.
Yes, I use the S Pen occasionally, but it's not that I can't live without it.
Also, going from 5.7 to 5.1 might seem a bit strange, but the ease of use might make up for that.
Battery wise, they are almost the same, but I guess the S7 will be less power hungry so it'll have bettery battery life.
I have the Note 4 since its launch and I am ok with it, although it's starting to lose its snappiness. Perhaps some degradation of the internal storage.
I also checked the S7 Edge, but its a no go, I dont like it that the edges of the screen are distorted.
If i was in your position, i wouldn't consider about it, note 4 is still an awesome phone and will be for a quite long time.
If you get used to a phablet size, i think you gonna regret for switching to a normal size. SPen is a great feature for me, since i have to keep notes very often.
I think it should be a better move to keep the note 4 and your money, and buy the note 6 someday.

+1 I played wth the s7's too and have been tempted to snag a couple. But I prefer note sized phones for reading. Wait for the Note 6 to see what new hardware it brings to the table before you throw money away.
No.
Note 6 maybe ........ no S for me
Hmmm... You convinced me guys. Thats what I'll do. If the Note 6 also sucks, I ll get the S7 at that time, which will also be a lot cheaper.
If you have money why not?
But for me my note 4 is still capable of anything that S7 can do. No reason at all for me.

I've considered both the S7 Edge and the standard S7. In my opinion and limited experience with both S7 variants, I'd prefer the physical appearance of the S7 with the bigger (but not edge) screen of the S7 Edge as well as the battery of the S7 Edge.
However, as I've basically described the Note 6 I'll just wait for that.
I'd rather go Note 4 > Note 6, but it is heavily dependent on whether the bootloader is locked or not.
I mean, if I wanted to purchase a device that I'm unable to modify, why even go the Android route?
Only real way I can accept a locked-down Samsung device, is if it was significantly cheaper than the equivalent iDevice.

I'm in the nearly same situation.
The terrible Updatesituation of Note 4 lead me back to the s variants. Will a possible Note 6 more prefered as Note 4by Samsung itself.
Today i would take the S7 Edge because of screensize. I will miss Spen for the first time but the S Variants look better supported atm as Note Series.

I'm keeping my note 4 until something that really makes a jump in quality.
Note 4 to s7 wouldn't be worth the change for me plus I would hate going smaller now.
I think 4k amoled screens will be on Samsung agenda soon plus I think there will be some major improvements on the processors in terms of performance and battery life.
Waiting for the next note or nexus 6.
Specs don't mean as much as they did 5yrs ago. I'm in no hurry to upgrade I used to upgrade yearly but to be honest there isn't anything out there that is that much better. How fast does a phone need to be?
Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
Got the s7 and its perfect in many ways! Go for it!
if you are not going for the edge screen and its beautiful design, then just wait for the note 6, or reconsider upgrading to the s7 edge. i just had my new s7 edge today and kept my note 4 also, i did the upgrade for the dualsim and the beatiful designe and edges

I think you should wait and get the Note 6 if you want to upgrade. For the money, in my case dollar for dollar the Note series is a better value with the extras. Plus, as is been rumored it may be announced/released in the Jun/Jul time period, not too far from now. In addition, some new features may be added to the N series that the S may get on following upgrade. That's my two cents.
I think I'm going from a note 4 snapdragon to a lg g5 when its released in aus
Just read that the 12MP camera is a 4:3 sensor, So for 16:9 pictures you get stuck with 9.1MP instead of the full 16MP of the note 4.
This is a mayor drawback for me.
Noooo!
Can't do the switch, it will kill you. Annnnd, square photos.
Don't do it. Wait for the Note 6.

no s7 for me..it's nice, but thats about it. gonna wait for the note 6

galaxy tab S2 or zenpad 3s 10?

hi all,
i have a 10" galaxy tab pro that still works but is starting to feel to dated.
looking for a replacement and these 2 seem like the best options now.
the s2 was pricier but it's older and the prices currently are close (at least in europe) to the ones of the zenpad.
so which do you think is a better option?
I would recommend the Zenpad 3s 10 for the bigger battery, better price, quick charge 3.0, the fact that it will get Android 7.0 for sure and the 1GB of ram in favor. The only downsize if you ask me is the more 100 grams of weight and maybe the fact that the tab s2 has super amoled. Do let us know what you've got
some good points there. thanks.
the price doesn't apply to where i live tho, both cost around the same here now.
but the specs look a bit better, the screen on the asus is not amoled but looks pretty good too. thanks.
Buy an second hand/reconditioned S1 10.5" all the rest are INFERIOR
John.
i would agree with you regarding the aspect ratio, i much prefer a wide screen 16:9 or similar. But the S1 is also already too dated (almost the same as my old tabpro, it just has more ram and amoled instead of ips screen).
Unfortunately all newer tablets are have ipad aspect ratio that sucks for media consumption

Please don't go for that Zenpad 3s 10.
I was in the same situation as you 2 months back and purchased the tablet form Amazon. The tablet is only good in paper compared to tab s2. Poor display and poor graphics quality in games. I only play a few games and they stuttered big time. And the battery life is actually quite worse than tab s2. I returned the tablet to Amazon by paying the return shipping myself.
I bought a used tab s2 after that, and this is a much superior tablet despite what the spec comparison would suggest to you.
Tab s2 would be better. Like other said these specs are good on paper not to mention you will most likely end up with mtk processor which isnt as popular as snapdragon or exynos. Plus you can see tab s2 has some community development at-least.
Thanks for the help. Went ahead with the tsb s2 and im happy so far

Note 8...

So... The Note 8 is out... Its a great Device! But 1000€ its exaggerated!!
How many Note 4 users will go to the 8? I think not so many...
I'm still happy with my 3 years old Device... (Already with Dr.Ketan's Rom)
Can we hope to a Note 8 porting or witch Rom can you recommend?
Or should i start to save money? [emoji39]
I just ordered a Mate 9 from Newegg today. I seen the price of the Note 8 and my thought was the same ($1200 + tax Canadian here). I'm on my 2nd Note 4 now and this one has the eMMC issue too. So from the reviews the Mate 9 seems like a close contender with the S8 (At this point I don't care about custom roms for it)

i will go N8 if same price with N4 lmao
is too expensive with 128gb or 64gb
or i must wait until my N4 die forever
I was going to buy one but I really think the Note 4 is still doing the business for me and can not see the benefit
Note 4 is doing great job for me for now. Even if my phone dies, wont give so much money for a phone.
i ended up preordering the n8 at 12:01 AM on the 24th. I love my note 4, and now even more so since I picked up the 10000 mha zerolemon extended battery. But I really want a new phone. I will hang on to the note 4 for a long time, it has a special place in my heart.
Was happy with my Note 4 (running Norma V20) untill my girlfrien got a Samsung S8+.
Then my note suddenly was crap
Bought the Oneplus 5, and daaaaaaamn this phone is fast and smooth! Kinda miss the S-Pen and bigger screen but daaaaaaamn the speed on the Onepluss overweights everything. Much faster than the S8+ to my girlfriend also.
i have the motherboard freezes and reboots and my camera front glas is damaged. i realy need a new phone
i paid for the N8 600$ with provider bonus, i think thats a nice price.
Well my note 4 is still better , infrared is an essential tool for me and note 8 dont have it... I guess I will wait until note 9[emoji14]
Way too overpriced, so I am gonna pass on that. My note 4 is still running like day one, minus the battery which can be replaced easily replaced.
I'm extremely disappointed with Note 8.
Curved edges (without any alternative) mean that the screen will be much more fragile, and will give you glares on the edges. It is both more fragile AND more expensive to replace than flat screens (we've seen that since S7 edge). If that's not enough, the back is now not durable, it's made of glass and you can break it too.
For me personally, one of the biggest NOs of Note 8 is its heavy weight: 200 grams is much more than already too heavy 167 grams of Note 4. About 3 years ago i have changed Galaxy S3 (100 grams) to Note 4 (176 grams) and the change was drastic... It hurts to talk half an hour or more on Note 4, and in general it's too heavy. I sense its weight all the time, every day, and every day wish it were lighter.
The battery is not removable, and it's real PITA. In my Note 4 a battery fully lasts only 1 year, then starts degrade like crazy (overheating during charge; phone turns off at 5, then 10, then 30% etc). I have got my 3rd battery already! With Note 4, maybe would be able to replace it via service center, but it will be more time consuming, more expensive, you will get your device disassembled so it will no longer be like new (lots of glued parts inside), and you will have to trust all your confidential or sensitive data to be given to the service center with your phone.
Why only QuickCHarge 2 is supported (like in Note 4), why not at least QuickCharge 3??
Where are real innovations? Like no bezels screen (Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, or Sharp Aquos Crystal 2), or stereo speakers (last years' ZTE Axon 7)???
This phone costs 500€ or less. 500€ is an absolute maximum one should pay for note 8 at the start of the sales (assuming all the abovementioned minuses), and then the price should drop. I would probably pay no more than 300€, as curved screen and non-removable battery just impose so much programmed obsolesce, that i refuse to invest more.
Realistically, i'm still on Note 4 with a refreshed battery, with an optimized rooted rom and efficient kernel (android 4.4.4), everything flies, and i do not upgrade as i have seen too many negative complaints about 5.x and 6.x ROMS. The device is fast and fits my needs (except being too heavy), however I really want a new, faster device with more modern OS, preferably Android O.
In the short term, if an Android O ROM will become available for N910F, i'll give it a go.
In the long term, i guess i will be migrating to a reasonably price edgeless device (must be QHD Amoled, preferable 6.2-6.3), very likely Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.
Samsung just leaves no other options, it does ignore its customers' needs.
I'm begrudgingly moving to the Note 8 because I have no other penabled smartphone options on the market; this is a niche Samsung has all to itself until someone dares to compete.
Normally, I'd keep the Note 4 still, but I'm in a bit of an unusual predicament: an unofficially SIM-unlocked Sprint N910P variant on T-Mobile since the end of January, largely because we all know what happened to the Note 7 and I didn't want to chance buying another Note 4 with all this talk of eMMC failures. Lately, I can't even get 3G on T-Mo for some reason despite it having worked before (4G never worked because Sprint locked out the bands on their variant), and my call quality's turned to crap.
In short, my hand was forced due to a carrier switch resulting in subpar network performance on my current phone, and had my family heeded my advice two years ago, we would've switched that much sooner.
At least Samsung will take $200 off for trading in an old S5 in working order, and we've got a pair of Sprint S5s not doing much anyway since the switch. That makes the cost of the Note 8 a bit easier to stomach, alongside the pre-order promo... but only a bit. (Ironically, they wouldn't take Note 4s for trade-in, but there's no way in hell I'm giving up mine like that anyway. I like having an IR blaster for those things I didn't get remotes with!)
As a bonus, I won't have to deal with any carrier branding BS this time. If there's an unlocked variant that costs as much as all the major carrier-locked variants anyway, sometimes even a bit less, why the heck would anyone NOT get the SIM-unlocked version? (Bootloader unlocking is probably a pipe dream for North American models now, though. Thanks a lot, Samsung... if not for import models being even more expensive for a litany of reasons, I would've gone that route.)

Think I'm gonna wait until my upgrade is due in December to see how this pans out. Not too sure about the lack of capacitive buttons but the dual 12mp camera is a biggie for me. Hopefully a working root will be in place to disable Bixby and all the other Samsung crap.
Found out today I have a permanent 25% discount with Vodafone UK so £45 a month is acceptable.

So it will be slower.

Xperia 1 ii vs note 20 ultra

So I've just bought both to try as I did already have the xperia ii once already but sent it back as I thought the note would be better ?
I have both side by side playing the same hdr video and the xperias quality with the display is amazing compared to the note 20 ultra can someone explain how as the note is ment to have the best display on the market?
Even the brightness isn't a big jump between them both again considering the note is ment to be over twice as bright as the xperia
Granted the note is a bigger display but everything looks yellowish on it and I've set it to cool in the display settings aswell
And the 120hz to me in my opinion doesn't make a massive difference over the xperia 60hz
I also am unlucky to be in the region for the exyonos version here in the UK :crying:
Safe to say think ill be keeping the xperia not to mention on my tariff its half the price of the note
The key statement here is the fact that you have the exynos version. The Snapdragon 865+ version of the Note Ultra is a different beast
Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
Samsung has a bigger marketing team, that is why everyone thinks that their screens are the best.
Exynos is the biggest joke if compared to the 865 Snapdragon.
120 Hz only works only lower resolution, not on the highest setting.
Sony has it beat in display, battery and speed snapdragon or not. Cameras are both excellent but the sony is so unique to anything else on the market.

Snapdragon version of Note 20 ultra is averaging between 7 and 9 hours of SOT. Now to make it clear I'm not hating on Sony, i love Sony. I'm a fan of their products. I just constantly wish they didn't hamper their flagships, it's not even so much the lack of the high refresh panel, it's the dinky battery they always put into their phones. I could never get through a whole day with any Experia phones.

It's a great phone, but for $1299 couldn't they have a higher refresh panel and 500mah bigger battery. 4,000mah on a 4k giant display is just not good enough. On Apple it would be apptimized to last. On Android, not so much. Hopefully Android 11 is better on the battery life.

It was just the time I happened to take it off the charger. If i took it off around 9 am then it would be hovering around 20 some odd percent with that screen on time by 9pm instead of 12 am. Still an Impressive SOT, no?

With the announcement of the xperia 5ii are the rumours true that we will get the 120hz refresh rate and the faster touch input?
Also is black frame insertion a hardware thing or could that also be added
Also to point out the sony has a 4k resolution with a 10bit display panel and bt2020 colour and the note 20 ultra is only 8bit and 709 rec colour.
You can check using display mate app from playstore for both phones.

It's just frustrating that the Note 20 Ultra is beasting even with a 120hz refresh option on View attachment 5099811

It has been stated that Note 20 panel isn't 120Hz all the time. and also there is still no QHD+120Hz option.
You have to choose either high refresh or high resolution. 90%+ of the time, Note 20 ultra is at 60Hz.

If you can tell 1440 vs 1080 on a 6.9 panel then great. I run it in 120hz and yes it's variable, so when I'm reading something it saves bettery. Duh
