ok this might be a bit too many questions - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all,
i have recently aquired Sony Xperie SP C5303, and i now i'm lost since i never had android phone. all i used was various emulators for PC and stuff...
but now there is many stuff to be noisy about. and probably this has been answered many times but please, do me a favor and pretty please answer again if possible.
1. Phone is SIM locked (i'm working on getting unlock code from provider, since i have right to do so, after contract expires..which has)..but is there any way to unlock phone before i get the code? i'm wondering how technitians in local services do that. they ask about 30€ for unlocking device, and i doubt they have acces to provider's unlock code.
2. I tried to flash phone with custom firmware (using flashtool) but it failed on me even though i used right firmware, and phone bricked. however i managed to recover phone with sony PC companion and it now works same as when i got it. Firmware 12. 1. A. 1. 205, android version 4.3. i have no idea why it failed on me during flash. can it be cause phone is no rooted, and have no root support? (whill connect to this on 3.) do i have to root phone before flashing? i would really like to have root access.
3. i was unable to do hard reset of phone with power + volume down button. or any other trick didn't work. i couldn't not enter android recovery options. i followed instruction on how to root my phone on
Code:
developersonymobile(dotcom)/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
. i entered
Code:
*#*#7378423#*#*
to check if my device is unlockable, it says boot loader unlock allowed : No. Does this mean i won't be able to have root acces on my phone? or i still have to learn difference between terms or what they mean.
also is that really true what they warn about that there is no turning back after i root phone and all. won't just hard reseting phone or repair device with all defaults troubh pc sofware bring back and vipe everything back? how will than service know if phone has been rooted ever?
thank you in advance for all your answers.

"Bootloader unlock allowed : No" <= this means you can't use UBL ROMs or custom kernels.
You can always root and use LBL ROMs though. There are plenty of LBL ROMs out there to try.
You can always un-root your phone. And you can always repair your phone's OS by flashing the Stock ROM via flashtool. Doing so would remove root access as well, no one would know you ever rooted.
Root using towelroot.
Get recoveries by Dssmex.
Then flash LBL ROMs, mods, ports etc. that you want.
and Be careful when you flash anything,
Read the threads, don't try to flash any UBL ROM as it may brick your device.

First thank you for helping.
UBL is unlocked boot loader right? and L is locked. sorry to doubt your last tip but i need to double check was it typo or...? you said don't flash UBL. isnt that supposed to say don't flash LBL. or i have totally got this wrong. maybe i don't know what what's LBL and UBL.
but just to be safe? where can i find stock ROM? i tried official site, they don't let me download firmware manualy. only trough sony PC companion automatic repiar. Which is ok too i guess. else i can download sony flash tool callsed emma, but i cannot get login info since they need about 7 days to approve my registration.
so my first step is to root my phone. ok i will do that. i might do it manualy, not trough application though.
what about sim lock? after i root phone, is there sim unlock command or what? and do i need code...how do you unlock your phone to be able to use other SIM.

Welcome.
And no, I did mean "Don't flash UBL ROMs"
UBL = Unlocked Bootloader
LBL = Locked Bootloader
The ROMs that are made for Unlocked Bootloaders are UBL ROMs.
Unlocked Bootloader users can use both LBL and UBL ROMs.
But since your device's Bootloader cannot be unlocked, you can only use LBL ROMs.
It's written in almost all ROM threads if it's a LBL or an UBL ROM. But if it isn't specified, then be sure it's UBL. (Like all 5.1 ROMs are for UBL)
Download stock ftf from here.
Use Flashtool v0.9.18.5
and I can't say about the last one as I don't use a carrier locked device.
Try and see what happens.

thank you again for reply. you've been very helpfull with all info.

that is exactly from where i got it the first time. also same flashtool version. after i tried to use that firmware, my phone bricked.
even though it's stock ROM, probably cause my phone had locked bootloader (i finally found article on what is bootloader and i got it now).
but after this, i have used sony software to recover my phone and it works again.
now important stuff. so my device's bootloader cannot be unlocked. does that 100% means that i'm stuck with locked bootloader and no way of getting it unlocked.
even on sony offical site there is process tutorial how to unlock bootloader, and it says "if you device isn't listed, than you cannot unlock bootloader".
but it IS listed and I AM able to get the unlock code for it. now i'm confused. can i still do the process showed?
another confusing thing is where i read about bootloader, it says that for to be able to root i need to flash custom ROM, and to do that i need to unlock bootloader.
but you have provided link for "towelroot" which was able to get my phone root acces. is it different from rooting my phone manualy after unlocking bootloader. how did it manage to root it anyway? and with towelroot it still has bootloader locked. actually it says "boot loader unlock allowed: NO!". now begs the question does that mean, not allowed, but i can be unobidient one and still unlock it without clearance, or does it mean .."you're stuck with locked bootloader. deal with it!. if you try to unlock bootloader your phone will brick"!.
i think after i get answer to this, than it would be my last question for this topic
also again, thank you for answering all previous questions...and this one, hopefully

Did you install the drivers properly (Flashmode, fastboot, viskan common) ?
You need to disable driver signature verification before installing drivers if you're on Win 8/8.1/probably 10 too.
And flashtool should work perfectly in both LBL and UBL phones.
You said your service menu says, "Bootloader unlock allowed : No"
Even if you get a BL unlock code you can't unlock it coz it's not allowed.
And by messing with the bootloader or trying to flash UBL ROMs may permanently brick your phone.
And different phones have different rooting processses. Rooting our SP is easier than most other phones by TowelRoot.
And "Bootloader unlock allowed : No" is more like a "You're stuck with locked bootloader. deal with it!. If you try to unlock bootloader your phone will brick!".
And you can still use a lot of LBL ROMs, from 4.3 to 5.0. So don't worry Lol.
Welcome

i did install fastboot and drivers and everything acording to tutorial. i payed attention on par "pay attention to this. be sure to install drivers correctly, lol"
i'm using win 7 64bit sp1. i have disabled UAC. i'm alaways running as admin. as for flashtool. software works perfectly..it just fail flashing.
it goes to part where i need to unplug phone and plug in holding volume something button..it says on poppup. than i plug in phone and it starts flasshing..it goes up to 40% something percent. if finish few files but when it comes to system.(something) i forgot extension, it says failed. flasshing stopped. than after that i can't turn on phone again.
i couldn't untill i recovered via Sony PC companion. i did try to flash it several times with several roms. i think it's cause my provider messed with bootloader. they locked it together with sim. on official sony site. it says:
"Note! Even if your device is listed here, certain releases of the device model may not be supported due to operator restrictions. Please select your device on the Start tab to check if your particular device can be unlocked."
anyway, i even got my provider's firmware trough flashtool download system, got my provider's name and exact same firmware that was installed. it still failed on same file.
than after i recovered i didn't try to flash anymore. i don't even know what's the point, if i can have root access without it.
i'm not so keen on installing other android version, unless this one gives me problem. for that i need to unlcok phone first to be able to even use it or test it so far it's has been t urned off most of the time

I see.. I'm not actually sure why Flashtool isn't working.
Anyways some good 4.4.4 LBL ROMs are 'CM11 by Bagyusz', 'Omni-X by NeildownX', PA etc.
Try them if you want.

I assume you're now on a rooted stock ROM.
Follow this to get recoveries.
Reboot, when you see the Blue LED burn, press vol down to enter TWRP recovery.

can i use cm-11-20150822-UNOFFICIAL with flashtool so i avoid installing recoveris or CWMP?
flashtool worked for me it just gave me an error during flashing one of the files....that might be cause i didn't know difference between LBL roms and UBL roms. maybe problem was incorrect rom type for my phone.
i tried to install recovery tools. and i had some problems...when i swhitched on phone there was no light showdown,,just red led...and after phone entered safe mode. but not in recovery menu.
i sure have no idea what to do...now everything is so strange.
to be honest i'm considering dropping this whole thig of and use stock rom as it is...
it would be cool if there would be automatic debloat application which will remove all bloatware...
or at least bloatware list of apps i can delete manually, without loosing important function on my phone. than i would not need custom rom!

If you're on CM11 by Bagyusz, Open Terminal Emulator and enter the following codes,
su
./system/bin/recovery.sh
^ it will give you access to recovery when you see the red LED while booting.
If you decide to go back to stock, you can freeze/remove these apps.
I made the list when I was on stock. Take a backup before removing them just to be safe.

I just damaged my new XZ

First I unlocked bootloader with DoomLord method. Then did root. Then for same stupid reason I decided to relock it with flashtool for ZX beta2 and it didn't booted. It vibrates when i push the power button, but nothing appears on the display. Then I did the unlock and root procedure with fastboot on SDK and the phone responded to be connected and commands succeeded but nothing appeared on the display. Please anybody help. What I need to do? Fastboot seems to work. When i plug in to charge the red led does not stay on - it blinks

Close flashtool. Then download and install EMMA (official Flash Tool for Xperia devices) from Sony (https://www.google.ch/#hl=de&safe=o...le+emma+download&oq=sony+mobile+emma+download) and reflash your device with it.
Pay close attention to the instructions on the download page as you need to copy a couple files around before it works.
You need to boot to bootloader mode to flash. This achieved by totally turning off the device and holding VolDown only (not power) while connecting it to your pc.

Now I succeeded to connect phone to EMMA but it says locked phone. As I used relock option on Flashtool beta2 now how can i unlock it again? I tried DoomLord method and it gives me error write 'boot' failed. I did also the unlock process from Sony mobile provided and in the command window it says 'okay finished' but bootloader is stil locked
Excellent so far, helps narrowing down the problem.
EMMA only flashes unlocked devices, I figured you are unlocked so I recommended EMMA.
If you're locked, simply get Sony PC Companion and do a "repair" with it. Run PC Companion, boot up the phone, connect it, once PC Companion says connected click "Update firmware" or so. It should then say you're on latest firmware already and asks if you want to perform a "repair". Do so.
Just reread your post. Your device isn't booting, then of course the above doesn't work. You may try, I believe PCC also works with a device in flashmode.
However, you may also download SUS http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/ and try with that. Its the counterpart of EMMA for locked devices.
Shut down your device (hold VolUp and Power for about 15 seconds, the device should vibrate 3 times in a row). Start SUS, select XZ and when it tells you to, connect your device holding VolDown ONLY. It should then do it's thing.

The unlocking and rooting part is not that scary as long as you have no power outage
The problem here was the relocking of the bootloader, there is no known way for that, yet.
I got my phone back thanks to schaggo .
SUS preinstalled it which means that it had been properly locked with Flashtool beta2.
But then no way to unlock again as I tried both ways known here as EMMA asked me to do.
I've rooted my previous X10i and my chieneese tablet wm8650, installed custom ROMs many times
but when I saw the black screen on my brand new XZ I just freezed, couldn't make my brain working.
Now curious about the BE - is it lost with the first unlock or it's back now?
There were some demo videos and music which are gone now and maybe this means BE is no longer working.
I wonder if there's a way to port back BE as FeraVolt did for one of his ROMs
So is your phone locked now?

Yes, its lost with the initial unlocking of the bootloader. Maybe it will be ported, maybe not, no way to know at this time.
I still miss an information: yours is locked now, ok, but could it be unlocked again (unlock allowed:yes vs. unlockballowed:no)?

He already lost BE, DRM and stuff, why limit one self to the less convenient dealing with locked bootloader when an unlocked device offers more flexibility and ease of flashing?
Flashtool for Z beta 2, replace x10thingblah.jar (search flashtool thread), hit relock button, reflash stock with PC Companion/SUS/Flashtool, done.

I have rooting status : unknown
This was said to be a bug - already fixed I think
I haven't tried unlocking again because I'm not sure that yesterday's death of my phone is caused by the relocking
I'm gonna wait and stay on stock for a while to see if this phone works without any problems.
About the BE2 I really don't know what to think : I did some screenshot with XZ on/off and there's no difference.
Then did the same with X10i (FeraLab' s ROM with BE ported) and again didn't find a difference between all of the screenshots including XZ'
Maybe it doesn't work on your X10 either. On my Z, I can make out a difference, especially with the provided stock images, which are VERY colourful on purpose I suppose, to demonstrate the oversaturation of colours BE2 produces
But I may ask again:
1. you reflashed your phone with SUS or Flashtool
2. after the flash you did not root or try to unlock again
3. when checking now (fully stock) your unlock status is "unknown"?
I ask, because root with locked bootloaders also makes the status unknown.
ive got my phone stuck on the sony sign instaling a custom unlocked bootoader rom when my phone has locked boot loader any help atall
i had root and everything was working but after install it said to fix permissions when they were fixed i rebooted but its stuck on sony sign.
any help would be gratful.

I tried many ways, including restoring everyting with PCC, fully original stock without root, without unlock, but it still says "unknown".
Again, unlock with flashtool 2beta, OK says "unlocked yes". and relock again, "unknown", and unlock again, "yes", switching freely...
Whatever I do, BE2 is dead, forever.
Somehow there is only one thing for now, with the fake relock "unknown", PCC or US or even OTA can accept device updating or restoring.
So to get BE2 back or get "locked" status, we'd wait for devolpers to work out something.

The Japanese devoloper way of locked root will make the status "unlock not allowed", whether device locked or unloced, which is just false information, don't worry.

Bell XPERIA C6616

Hi guys,
I am having trouble restarting stock c6616 into recover mode?
Read so many articles, watched several videos on YT, but i cannot get it working.
Most of instruction will say TurnOff phone, turno on, wait for led and keep pressing volume up, problem is LED is not lit at all on my phone.
I also tried to reboot to recover via ADB , phone will just restart.
Any ideas?

No you can't. Custom roms like PA, OMNI, Cyanogenmod need a custom kernel. It is not possible to flash a custom kernel on a locked bootloader. You can still flash stock based roms though. If you search in the development section you will find some. They are marked with "LB"

Correct.
You can check it in service menu if you bootloader is unlockable. Open dialer and enter *#*#7378423#*#*
Go to service info > configuratoin. If it shows "bootloader unlock allowed: no" you won't be able to unlock it
Checked that! , out of luck for me :/
Ok, trying to figure out LB Rom installation instruction.
I will give a try http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/rom-existenz-v5-0-0-ultra-edition-10-4-t2349656
This one,.. i guess its most popular for xperia

Can't unlock bootloader, get root, recovery is deleted

Hello. I have really bad situation about my friend's phone. I was about to install Cyanogenmod on it (i have experience about it, i installed CM on my Nexus 5 without any problems). First i tried to unlock bootloader. I tried different ways including the official one but none of them helped. When i turn the phone on and call to 3845#*880#, it says that bootloader is unlocked. But i still can't flash recovery to TWRP (it says that bootloader is locked). Then my friend asked me to get root at least, because when we tried to unlock bootloader we used a chinese program which installed ad malware into firmware and he can't delete this. I read about installing root without unlocking bootloader, using stock recovery. But when i try to load into recovery mode, smartphone is loading into Android. I guess i've deleted stock recovery accidently. Is there any way to root/flash CM/completely reset (btw this one doesn't work correctly, because that ad malware is still there)? Help me, please. Thanks in advance.

[Help] Failed to root and cant boot but still can enter recovery mode.

Hello, Im really2 noob about these and just tried to root last night and failed, now my phone cant boot, but it still can enter recovery mode which is (CWM - based Recovery v6.0.4.7 so I have discover so many step and now become confused which one should I do, plus all the new terms I never heard before like flash rom, image, bootloader...
What Ive done since last night (after the problem occur) I download a ROM (maybe) which is http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/d5803-23-2-1-62-slim-t3127115
So I put it in sd and install the zip file through recovery mode I mentioned and reboot but still nothing happen..and also I do the same way to super SU.zip file, install it from recovery and yeah still like before cant boot, stuck at logo, just can enter recovery mode.
Hope any of you can help.
Sincerely, Noob.
Download stock firmware using XperiFirm and then flash that firmware with Flashtool, there is over 1000 guides on how to do that, and as well this will completely wipe your phone so if you didn't backup basically all of your data is gone.
Then try to root again, put recovery and flash that ROM.

I would stop trying to flash random roms while the phone still works and concentrate on following a proper guide on how to root and back up your TA partition.
You will need flashtool. Once installed look inside for a folder called Drivers, run the exe in that folder, this will give you flashtool drivers. If you are on windows 10 then installing these drivers is a bit complicated. You will also need Z3 compact drivers.
Follow the instruction on the above thread to downgrade your firmware to 23.0.A.2.93 or older. You will then be able to root very easily, then recovery and supersu are a couple of clicks away.
Once you have working recovery then you can choose a good MM build and flash that
Check that the rom you are trying to flash supports locked bootloader [STOCK] and if you are tempted to unlock your bootloader, then just take a minute to read through the Q&A thread bellow your question looking at all the DRM questions and why you'll never get your camera working properly again.

Question Help, i did something stupid.

Hello
Hoping somebody can help getting my phone up and running again.
I wanted to unroot my phone, because i was having issues with danish "MitId". And was a bit sloppy with it.
First i tried using SuperSU to remove root. Because i didnt feel like setting everything up again. Didnt work.
Then I locked the OEM Lock in developer settings. Not thinking this would be a fatal error.
Got home from work, and said to myself. Jusk lock the bootloader and the phone will reset itself.
But this is not the case, when you have been stupid enough to lock the OEM lock.
Now I am stuck on "No valid operating system could be found. The device will not boot"
I can get in to fastboot by pushning power+vol down. But cannot flash anything since the phone thinks the OEM Lock is locked on it.
Does anyone know of a solution for me. Or is it going to the shop tommorow and say that my phone is going this. And hope they will sort it for me?
Can't you fix stuff by using https://flash.android.com/ ?
No, unfortuantly not. It fails:
Device Unlock DisabledFor security reasons, you need to enable "OEM unlocking" in order to flash your device. See the device preparation instructions for more information.

Try sideloading the full OTA. You don't need an unlocked bootloader for that.
Unfortuatly not, if I try to enter recovery mode. The phone just goes back to the screen saying "No valid operating system could be found. The device will not boot"
ADB is not available to me
If you can't sideload the OTA, I'm afraid there is not much else you can do with a locked bootloader except try to RMA it.
Can you get into recovery at all. Even if it's the stock you can attempt a sideload of the stock OTA.zip from Google. You may also try if your on boot slot A
fastboot --set-active=b
On b use
fastboot --set-active=a
Try to see if the other boot slot has an a bootable OS.
*****I apologize I just saw it's actually still locked****"
Contact U-break I-fix if I typed that correctly. The third party warranty repair center for Google's warranty. I believe they can attempt to switch the boot slot with a locked bootloader with the equipment they use to reflash these devices. If anything it's under warranty get the RMA and if the bootloader is locked on it trade someone or sell it and use it to make buying a new cheaper..

No, I can get into fastboot and that is it.
But everything I try in fastboot gets rejected, since it says the phone is locked.
Does the bootloader screen on the phone have the option to boot into Rescue. This has a ADB connection but I am not sure if adb sideload works
Really mad that Google intentionally locks phones this way, turning them into completely functional, but useless piece of junk. I guess that's late stage capitalism for you xD

Google is not responsible for phone's with locked bootloaders. They make the device with the specifications the carrier that sells it stipulates. Google themselves allows the unlock.

Iam guessing the same. Phone doesnt want to do anything.
And since i cant get into the phone to oem lock i am stuck. Live in Denmark, so by law I havnt voided the warrenty by rooting.
Pixel warranty is always valid even if you unlock and root. Google doesn't void the warranty. Go to Google pixel support page. Find warranty and act as if your submitting a RMA and it will tell you after you enter the device IMEI how long your warranty is valid for

If that were true. Android flash tool https://flash.android.com/welcome
Would work as it's the same process for the browser to flash the very same file. Motorola allowed signed factory img on locked. Google had never allowed that in fastboot as far as I am aware
DroidRommer said:
All you need to do is go here Factory pixel firmwares and scroll down to pixel 7 panther assuming you're not on the pro (cheetah)
-select the latest version for your model whether that's Verizon or whatever if you have the carrier unlocked one like myself just choose the Feb firmware that doesn't have a carrier name at the end of the firmware number (you should have your phone plugged into your PC and in fastboot mode) click flash and follow the steps. These are Googles factory images so it doesn't matter if your bootloader is unlocked or not as long as you choose the latest version and the correct version for your phone. Tbh you can't really brick the pixel 7 as long as you have a PC and are able to put the phone in fastboot mode (holding the volume down and power button while powering on)
-Anytime you run into some kind of bootloop issue or wanna get rid of root flashing the stock firmware from this website will factory reset and revert your phone to the way it was the very first time it was pulled out of the box and powered on. If you have already tried this and you know forsure you did everything correctly then I must admit I have never had this happen and I'm someone who flashes custom roms and goes back to stock to get the latest security update just to turn around and flash another custom rom right after lol. If you need any help or advice feel free to pm me whenever. I have been rooting phones for a long time and have to say that the Google pixel is by far the most user friendly phone I've ever owned when it comes to custom rooms, rooting etc. You can ALWAYS go back as long as you know what steps to take. Sorry for the rant especially if you already figured it out.
Happy Customizing!

Their bootloader is locked. You cannot flash a factory image like that with a locked bootloader. They also turned off OEM Unlocking in the developer settings. If they had left this enabled they would be able to use Android Flash Tool as that tool will unlock your bootloader if OEM Unlocking is enabled.

This wouldn't be Google, they basically encourage you too unlock the bootloader and root if you want as they give you all the tools you need and factory firmware options to go back if you make a mistake. Tbh if you are able to unlock and root the phone to start then you can go back. Even with a locked bootloader you can always flash the latest factory image on googles dev website, you just can't downgrade firmware or install different carrier firmware without the unlocked bootloader. If we really wanna poke at some phone developers I vote Samsung as I have had multiple people ask me to root their phones and if it's a US snapdragon version it cannot be done its so frustrating lol thanks for letting me vent, have a great day if you have the the carrier unlocked dev edition of the pixel 7 and ever need any help feel free to pm me. I have been rooting and romming pixels for a long time
Edit: I was not aware you couldn't flash the stock firmare using googles dev page without oem unlock. I apologize for jumping to conclusions. I thought I had every possible bad scenario happen to me by now but apparently I learned something new today.

Dude. You cannot flash factory images of any kind on any Google phone with the bootloader in locked status. Please stop giving false information on here. If you want to talk up Samsung do it on a Samsung post. Let's not confuse everyone please

To use Android Flash Tool, you have to have OEM Unlocking enabled in Developer Options for it to be able to unlock the bootloader.
To flash the factory image in fastboot you must have an unlocked bootloader.

Okay my bad you are right fortunately I have never had this happen. And like someone else said if he can't get into recovery then he can't sideload a factory ota... sorry I'm at a loss on this one. Some custom roms use "fastboot update file.zip" would that do anything in this case or would that command not even work with a locked bootloader I'm assuming. I apologize for trying to act like a know it all I've just never heard of this happening
