avast antivirus - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I experiencing heavy battery drain Form avast on my non-rooted phone with stock ROM. Like 80% or so..
I am not able to provide a log yet but does anyone got a clue where it might come from?

anyone?

Well avast mostly eats cpu time.. so yeah it will eat battery life.

Yeah ok but on my other phone GT-i9505 it's nothing near 80% like on my this one..
80% seems pretty much considering that the display usually drains most battery, right?

No actually combine network activity with cpu activity and the display can become the lesser evil.
You should look at the wake locks perhaps something you are not noticing.

I am checking the wakelocks now with greenify.
thanks for the info!
How do I combine network activity with cpu activity?
Is there a thread reagarding this?
Note: I am not quite sure whether this works.
I use Tasker to do the following:
Profile>Status>Display off
In-Task>Network>Mobile Data 2G/3G>only 2G
Out-Task>Network>Mobile Data 2G/3G>prefer 3G
But there is no option choosing LTE. (This is for my GT-I9505 which is capable of LTE)
I can only enable or disable LTE via secure settings plugin,
but if I enable LTE via Out-Task won't this interfere with the In-Task?
Or what do you mean by "combine network activity with cpu activity"?
Please help a noob out

I mean when you have the network and cpu working hard it quickly eats the battery.
There are many reasons why a phone would use the battery aggressively and it's sometimes a pure pain to track down what or why.

Could you help me out with the Tasker set up?

Plus I am not sure how to test whether it works well...because the

Turn off gps possible?

Hi Guys
i've heard that you can turn off the gps which would imply its permantley on, is this true? If so, any one know how to turn it off as I can't find what is probably an obvious menu/option.
I need to turn it off as i am only getting six hours of idle on any charge of my phone - have an extended batt on order and it is using push email (constantly connected) which is a must for me.
No real complaints apart from battery (which was expected and being sorted) and seems pretty good so far.
Oh, anyone else ditch touchflo? Thought it was rubbish myself
If GPS was able to be turned off, how much battery might it save? The difference could be transforming!
I personally don't think that GPS would be permanently turned on.
Maybe the interface, which "looks" if a demand on GPS data exists...
IF the GPS would be permanently turned on, the battery drain would
be very high, and the device would get assumingly very hot.
mine eats battery more than a fat bird eats bugers and mcdonalds and yes, its very hot as well .. although, this could be coz its pretty much always plugged in.... ?
GPS is only 'on' when it is called for by any external program. If it were on all the time the phone would be flat in about two hours regardless what you did with it.

do you KNOW that or are you assuming that?
I know I have seen programs that turn it off just as usual, the search on here has let me down. If this was definetly the case, then why would programs like these be written?

Yes, it is a known fact that the Diamond heats up when you are charging it (to levels some may find concerning) but HTC have dismissed this as 'normal operation'.
If it was on all the time you would have an instant fix on where you are straight away .
If it was on all the time your battery would last as said around two hours
I think it is in standby mode if this is what you mean but does need software activation to enable it on as in transmit and receive .
Not sure if turning off standby mode would be a good idea but if you google for the chipset name and have a read up it will let you know these kind of things
Are you sure you guys are not getting confused with GPRS, not GPS?
That can drain battery life, and by disabling GPRS Auto Attach using Advance Config tool, can extend your battery by around 40%!

if I do this, then im guessing my push email wont work? .... and maybe i am?

I want to drain my battery as fast as possible. How?

Well, here's an odd question.
I really want to drain my battery, preferably quite fast. At the moment I've got it on full brightness, no screen timeout, running a particle simulator, but it's dropping quite slowly. I want my battery to feel the burn! Are there any apps that people would suggest to absolutely kill my battery?
I'm actually considering writing an app that kills CPU, accesses the net, attempts to connect to GPS etc etc... Could make my life easier.
Soo simple just connect to ur wifi or 2g network i will drain automatically

Nope, I'm talking heavy duty, 20% per half hour drain.
load maps in the background..turn gps data wifi..livewallpaper..play music while playing games.. wala! battery drain so fast..
Just turn everything on and play with mmorpg like pocket legend with 3G connection. I think you Will drain from full to empty in about 2 hours

Hmm.... While most of these are good solutions, they all require active use of the phone. Anything that I can set and forget?
set the phone to 'never sleep' under settings.
the like said above, leave as many apps running, music, play a 720p video,
Leave camcorder running, gps on, wifi, everything you can imagine,
then leave it, If the phone wont sleep, the apps should stay running, unless RAM gets low

Charge your phone to 100%, then wait for the issue to happen. When it does, open Better Battery Stats and take a screenshot of Kernel Wakelocks and Partial Wakelocks.

Audio_out4 is the speakers. It seems you're getting lots of notifications? To test it, try setting it on silent or vibrate only. This wakelock should disappear. I've had this on my HoX before, but it didn't eat as much battery as yours is doing though. Let me know if it still drains in silent/vibrate.

If you're trying to achieve ZERO PERCENT battery loss when the phone is idle, you're going to be sorely disappointed. As you've noted, even when you're not actively using the phone, the battery is still discharging. He'll, even if you were to POWER OFF the phone completely, the battery would still discharge. It's physics and unfortunately I'm not educated enough to explain exactly why. 2-3% battery loss per hour is really good and probably the best your going to get.

I saw that answer coming and, no offense, I think your friend is full of it. Short of leaving the phone powered down or in airplane mode, I can't imagine how he's pulling that off. Never in my phone loving history dating back to the good old G1 have I achieved that. I've seen it done on my iPhone before, but not Android. If he's really pulling that off, get him on here ASAP and have him share his secrets! D

Google services is killing my battery on HTC one

According to gsam Google service Is the culprit if ny high awake times (see screenshot below). But how can I reduce this problem without defeating the purpose of having a smartphone, and according to the battery graph u don't see Google services listed at all.
/facepalm
A 21-minute wakelock out of a 12 hour recording session. The sky must be falling.
Unless you shut down any Google app using Google Play Services, no, there's nothing to do. The only reason it comes up as a larger power use is because it's essentially aggregating the power previously used by six or seven different apps. You seriously need to get some perspective on what constitutes "bad" battery life because you just keep posting "my battery suxorz" threads with less and less justification each time.
Hmm. I get pretty crappy battery life, but that battery life doesn't look too good. How much screen time? Your kernel should use about 25% of your battery. If you're on stock, that is.
Try clearing cache for GP services. Try using the phone for a day. See if that works. If not, then clear data.

Here is my current stats also I'm completely stock (no root) and my herbal US currently 23%,how much higher(percentage wise) can it get before it will start causing orovkens?
For stock non rooted, that seems about right. That's what I get. Around 13 hours a day with 3 how screen time.
Actually, you are getting much better battery life than I do.
What are your settings? WiFi? LTE? Battery saving apps? Facebook? I can't for the life if me get decent battery life. As I said, the kernel uses up 25% of my battery.
EDIT: Also, I looked at my stats, and it seems that Google services wakes my device a lot too. So yeah, your stats are normal. :good:
Is this normal for me? I left my phone overnight and it goes to deep sleep with barely no screen time but there's major drain. What is the difference between screen on time and awake? Is it some background services running? I checked the wakelocks and nothing seems wrong.
Edit: Looks like something is keeping the kernel awake. Does anyone know what is msm_hsic_host?

it ranges from 20%-25%,once it got up to 28% but I was doing some heavy gaming, but after that it went down to 23% according to gsam's app sucker on the % power used screen. I'm rarely in a low signal area, but when I am i'm not in that area for long enough time for it to really impact my battery.

I'm going to have to agree here. I think people are expecting way to much out of these machines. Especially if your gaming and browsing a lot. Assuming your not crippling your smartphone functions by disabling data and such,This phone is only rated for about 3 or 4 hours screen on time max, especially while gaming. 12 hours of battery is perfectly fine. Especially for the use case of the OP.

Worse battery life since the Oreo update

Since the update, I have definitely experienced worse battery life, especially overnight on standby/idle and also overall when I'm at home on WiFi in general, I have read a few posts about the November security patch causing worse battery on a lot of different phones so I don't know if it is because of that, I just hope either the December patch sorts it, or HMD make the battery optimisation better in the next update patch from them soon, has anyone else noticed worse battery performance since Oreo?
Doesn't seem any different to me ill be honest.
For me it even seems to be a little bit better than on Nougat.
I have stellar battery life all together but standby could be better. The other night I lost 3-4% over night and that is more than the usual 1-2% I'm used to on my phones. Not something to get upset about really but something I've noticed.
No battery drain here, my opinion seems the same good as on nougat to

Same here, I have most of my apps disabled apart from things that actually need to be running like PingID for work authentication / MS Authenticator / emails and 4 or 5 other things.
Try "data saver" if you have that option in your OREO ROM
Yes I did say DATA saver
Go to Settings - type "data saver" in the search box - switch it on
Works magic for me with a standard OREO ROM and nothing else.
since 8.1 update, battery draining has been worse
