Moto X 1053 won't update

My wife's 1053 Moto X on T-mobile will not update from 4.4.4 to 5.1, it's not the 32gb developer edition but the 16 gb version.
She hates it when I reset her phone so I'm trying to avoid that.
It either errors out or says no update found when I check for an update.
I've tried clearing the cache and it didn't help
I have over 5 gb free so space shouldn't be an issue
I'm trying to use the Motorola Device Manager to update, it just says it looking for an update and then that it found no update
But the model number is NA, so it doesn't seem like it even knows what update it's looking for.
Does anyone know any non destructive ways to get it to update?

Need Advice- Moto G (2nd Gen) Stagefright patch on rooted device incoming..

Hello folks..
I have a Moto G (2nd Gen) mobile phone with me, and had its bootloader unlocked + rooted pretty much within the week i purchased it.
I was under the impression that once the bootloader gets unlocked, i wont be getting any official upgrade notifications like that for Android Marshmallow etc. But today i been bombarded with the patch for the 'Stagefright' bug like crazy. Ignored it 4 times, but it again popped up.
Before i install it (it has been downloaded and ready for action), i just wanted to confirm if it ll be alright to go ahead with this patch? Dont want any silly boot cycles/bricking to crash my device

the boot loader unlocked is nothing to worry about it does NOT stop ota update notification or installation.
the ota update requires you to have the correct stock RECOVERY - it will work only with STOCK recovery installed NO TWRP allowed
root - well it all depends how you rooted it. It's better if you can unroot 1st but i have been told you can update OTA with root but it will probable de root phone in process.
So I would say you are 99% good to go!!! + i have 5.0.2 stock firmwares in my signature if it goes wrong (It really shouldn't!)
out of interest before you if you are on LXB22.46-28 please dont install it yet download a root file explorer go to /cache and save the blur_version.xxx.zip to pc 1st (we need this as only have lxb22.99-16 version)
Good luck

Hello, and thank you for using XDA Assist!
The Moto G 2014 takes the classical approach to rooting:
Unlock bootloader
Flash TWRP via fastboot
Flash SuperSU in TWRP
Not sure if you were looking to do it some other way (assuming by "platform tools" you mean fastboot/adb).
At any rate, I am connecting this thread to the forum your device experts can be found:
> Moto G (2014) > G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Please note, to respond to replies, you will have to register for an XDA account.
Hope this helps.
1. Unlock Bootloader(Several videos available on YouTube)
2. Download CF-Autoroot
3. Boot ur phone pressing power+vol down key for like 2-3 seconds
4. Run the .bat file from the cf autoroot file u had downloaded
5. U may need to download SuperSU from Google Play Store

Moto X 2014 Moto display freezing after rooting

Since I rooted my Moto X 2014 both on lollipop and marshmallow the Moto display freezes when I swipe down to unlock the screen or swipe up to go straight to the notification. I have to press the power button to unlock the phone. What would the problem be?
Thanks.

Hey. I think maybe what you can do is un-root your phone and root it again with a different program/application. Maybe that will help?
I rooted it with SuperSU do you know of a different way to root the moto x 2nd gen? I tried kingo root and it didn't work.
Thanks

Hello MedZik,
I don't think other root Programme would help as well. Since, this isn't the Problem of root app but rather the Display Firmware upgrade.
I was on 4.4.4 on xt1092, later, I had received official update for 5.0.
Recently, I had rooted my device to downgrade it to 4.4.4, all went good, but I faced moto/active Display issue. Screen randomly started flickering and no active Display.
I followed below steps, request you to try the same and see if it works.
1. Try to wipe out Cache Partition.(You can do it from fastboot menu as well.)
2. Go to the Play store and uninstall moto Display updates(if any).
3. Go to the application and there select moto Display, try Clearing the data. After a while System will Auto detect it and pop will appear to downgrade moto Display Firmware. Hit, uninstall and reboot.
This should fix your Problem.
Keep us posted.:fingers-crossed:
