Galaxy S4 to Chromcast is pixelated - Google Chromecast

Hi,
First of all, I hope that's the right place for this thread.
I bought a new Chromecast and also I have an old Galaxy S4.
I wanted to make the S4 a Kodi/XBMC device, always connected to the chromecast.
So I was casting the S4 screen using the Chromecast app.
Later on, I started the Kodi app, and that worked pretty good.
The problem starts when I play a video, lets say a TV show or a movie.
On the S4, the quality of the video is great, but on my TV the video is pixelated.
That pretty much ruined my whole plan with the Chromecast...
Any idea what's the problem? and how can I fix this?
Thank you very much!

I dont have that peoblem using both chromecast and s4.
Maybe Tour Internet speed is low or you have them both on a bad reception place.

Well, the quality on my s4 is great, like 720 HD should be...
Maybe any settings I'm missing to make it work properly?

[Q] YouTube- Only decent via wi-fi??

So took a closer look at YouTube functionality for the first time last night. I knew there wasn't a dedicated YouTube app (dammit Microsoft!) so I downloaded the plug-in and the Lazy YouTube app I think it is..
Well to my shock the video quality was about as good a gameboy color. So I looked for some HD videos. Same thing. Connected to my wi-fi at home and it looked significantly better. Not sure about HD but better.
Now is this really the current situation or did I miss some hidden options?? I would be embarassed to be out somewhere with friends and be like "Hey check out this funny video I saw the other day" and then load it up and it looks like it's converted to 8-bit video.
Yea this all we have at the moment. Video only looks good thru wifi. I'm right next to a tmobile tower at my work and can download content faster then wifi but youtube videos still come out low quality when using 3g data. Someone please come up with hack to let app play hd thru data connection!
Yeah seriously, the HD2 didn't seem to have this problem so why on the HD7?!?

For those with TWC that can't watch the US Open on CBS...

In my area Time Warner Cable has blacked out CBS... so today I can't watch the US Open games being televised by CBS. Chromecast to the rescue... just go to the US Open Live Streaming site and cast it to your TV.
Oh my it is so choppy. I have a pretty new router that I bought last year and 20 mbps internet yet it's really broken up. I'm the only one using the internet, too. When I just stream it on my computer monitor it's amazingly HD with no problems at all.
That being said CBS is back on Time Warner anyway so it's all good. It would have been funny especially seeing the TWC logo all over the US open as they're a sponsor, yet TWC wouldn't have been able to show the US Open for their customers.

The limitation is caused by the CPU of your computer not your internet speed. It is hard to really have a smooth experience with video on the Chromecast using screen casting no matter what CPU you use.
Well my CPU is pretty good. My computer's just a little bit over five years old but it's still a good custom built gaming computer, so I doubt that's the issue.

That is absolutely the issue. Search the threads in this forum. It is having to transcode in realtime which is very difficult to do. That is why screen casting will never be smooth.
The Apple TV seems to do it really well, and I'm not sure how far it is specs wise but it doesn't seem like that much. Although I'm sure the Apple TV tries to steal a lot of the bandwidth in exchange for amazing quality. We have an Apple TV here and the mirroring is just wonderful but of course not much I can do with my phone on it. Chromecast can't seem to handle the scrolling on webpages perfectly yet while the Apple TV shows stuff like Fruit Ninja with absolutely no lag. Hopefully it's just a software issue that gets resolved soon.
I think it's the same with FaceTime as well with the large bandwidth take but the quality on that is amazing as well. Haven't really seen anything to match the quality of that, even when it's something like Tango or Skype or Hangouts on super fast internet vs. Facetime on ****ty internet, Facetime seems to do better. And it's not just a matter of better, it's like super high frames per second and HD quality as though playing a video on Youtube or something.

Had to return mine :(

I am bummed I had to return it. The screen was absolutely stunning. Better than any screen I have ever seen before. But it didn't have the horsepower to run the main app I needed it for which is the DJI pilot app. The video feed back from the drone was a little choppy. Then I live streamed it to twitch and it was super laggy. Looks like the only android tablet that can do it all smoothly is the nvidia shield. I hope the tab s 2 has much more power. I am looking forward to its release. Until then I am stuck with the shield. Awesome tablet in every sense but it just doesnt have that beautiful screen!

Both of those are my videos I streamed to twitch. I even tried custom roms in hopes one of them would free up some extra resources but no dice. Anybody know any specs or expected release date on the new tab s?

We will know this summer. I have no info on chipset and such but probably an upgraded exynos 5433 whicu is a bit better than the one we have now.

I heard of intel atom, not a great one
It will be 4:3 too, not great for videos
You could have tried an AOSP rom, that would be definitively smoother, at the cost of losing fingerprint and other touchwiz functions
Yeah it seems like the design of the S started and ended with the screen. And well it worked. I bought one.

Watch Video On Android Auto

Hi there, I recently purchased a 2016 Honda Civic, so far AA seems to be working pretty good with my Nexus 5, sometimes a little laggy but overall good. I was wondering how I would go about watching video on the LCD screen (obviously while the car is in park!). I'd love to be able to watch a movie or TV show viewing it on the touchscreen and playing through the decent sound system this car has. Thanks!

I would really like to know as well, haha.
It's not as simple as putting a movie file on your SD card and navigating to it with a file browser?

Nope, Android auto only lets you use specific apps with it.

YouTube Purchases stuck at 480p!

Hi all,
I have just started using the Xperia 1 ii and I am really enjoying it so far! Unfortunately though I am having an issue with all the films I have bought on YouTube & Google Play Movies where for some reason the highest resolution I can select is 480p. Obviously one of the main features of this phone is its gorgeous 4K 21:9 screen, but having to watch all my films in 480p makes that sort of redundant.
I have tried watching videos on Netflix and Disney+ and had no problems (the display is mind-blowing in fact!). Non purchased videos in YouTube are fine and let me select whatever resolution I want & even downloading the films in HD from Google Play Movies doesn't fix the resolution issue either...
Has anyone else had this problem on this (or any other) phone? Is it a glitch? If so, any ideas for a possible work around would be greatly appreciated!!
Maybe it doesn't come from the phone but Google.
As you bought them with 480P resolution, they're maybe locked by Google.
Did you try to buy a new one from your Xperia 1 II?
Thank you for the reply ?
All of my films were purchased before I got my Xperia 1 ii. They still work in 1080p resolution or higher in all my other devices. So yeah it's something to do with this device, I've just got no idea what!
Have you tried to use any YouTube purchases yourself?

No I haven't tried. I don't buy anything from YouTube.
Yes I got the same issue and also found it when using Play Movie. But it happens when the movies are from the US. Asian movies are okay and allow me to choose 1080p. Maybe the issue comes from Motion Blur Reduction.
