Root Achieved Nexus 4 6.0 roms - Nexus 4 General

COMPLETELY BASED OFF OF @Dmitry KERNEL WITH PATCHED SUPOLICY
DISCLAIMER: Blah blah blah I didn't break your phone don"t blame me.
Background
Well It actually wasn't too hard to achieve even though I know nothing of the boot.img. Just followed @Chainfire guide on installing SuperSu for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Booted my nexus into a lollipop rom and flashed SuperSu beta 2.51, did some adb commands to patch the selinux policy and recompiled and flashed boot.img
SELINUX IS ENFORCING
Steps to Root your new Nexus 4 running the latest Marshmallow
1) FLASH YOUR PREFFERED 6.0 ROM.
2) FLASH MODIFIED BOOT
BOOT.IMG V2
MEGA MIRROR
3) FINALLY FLASH SUPERSU BETA 2.51
4) PROFIT
CREDITS:
@Chainfire for his amazing SU work and great guide on noob patching selinux
@Dmitry Grinberg for his awesome 6.0 rom I'm running and for providing a boot.img with dmverity already disabled
Leave a thanks if you felt like I helped

How can I easily check this? Looking for an app now.

Looks like its enforcing according to SElinuxModeChanger apk. Asks if I want to put it into permissive at least.

It works.. Thank you..

It's enforcing then. root on L at first needed selinux to be in permissive. That's why i needed to ask. Thanks for boot.img!!

There is nothing to look into about that. Enforcing is what it should be.

Also a google engineer on aosp on m live thread is making a boot.img that's going to enable data. He'll be adding selinux policies to it after a bit of experinentation. When that's working do integrate those changes into your boot.img so we can have root and data together(in enforcing mode) which is the way it's all supposed to work
EDIT:- here you go :3

OK Dmitry has fixed the data issue and uploaded a new boot image, hopefully @ktetreault14 can fix that (after a well earned sleep session ) so we can root also, thanks again.

Get to what?
It's a boot.img replacement so you need to use fastboot to flash it, just reboot your phone to the bootloader and use fastboot.exe to flash it using "fastboot flash boot <filename>" (Obviously replacing <filename> with whichever file you want to flash.

[ROOT][5/24]Sprint One Root and Disable System Write Protection

Thanks to Dees_Troy getting TWRP working on this device, I have made an easy way to root your Sprint One and disable /system write protection.
Q&AWhat does this contain?
Everything necessary to install the latest SuperSU and supporting files (su binary included)
Install latest busybox in recovery
A ported wp_mod.ko module for this kernel
A script to start wp_mod.ko
A modified boot.img - insecured (allows for remounting of /system to rw when in Android), enabled USB debugging by default, and added busybox run-parts (alows scripts to run during boot).
What is /system write protection?
HTC now keeps you from writing to /system through the kernel. When you try to modify anything in /system, you'll get a reboot. This cannot be fixed until there is source available, so this method by flar2 works wonderfully.
How is this different from this method?
TWRP's method is great, but it doesn't disable /system rw protection. This means that you will still experience issues when modifying /system when booted into Android (deleting/adding files, updating SuperSU binary, etc). I would recommend my flashable .zip method!
Can I use this if I already installed SuperSU from TWRP?
Yes, you can flash this with no issues.

You bet lol it's lovely!
What a champion among men. Fine a bit longer nap when you're done. And the good gruel!
All jokes aside, thanks a lot for all of this. Now I'm prepped for Fridays release.
How'd you get into devving anyways? Did you have previous programming knowledge or just dive right in? I really wanna get into it and I'm very knowledgeable about computers and android but I've haven't dealt with coding much(save for a few lessons on codecademy) nor have looked much into development for android. Is it difficult to say add a new setting to the stock settings or to bake in/remove an app that wasn't there or needs to be removed?
Sorry if I'm taking up your time I'm just really interested in getting into it. I've been running other peoples ROMs from lgoptimusog>htcevoOG>htcevo3d>galaxye4gt>evolte>galaxys3 not to mention tablet ROMs and I just want to make my own tailored to me.

So what fastboot commands would I use? I may make a tutorial on youtube once I get the Sprint HTC One on Friday. Rooting can be complicated, but is so much fun to do! Thanks for the fast root, I mean damn the phone ain't even out yet! So excited, as I cannot wait for Cyangenmod and PACMan ROM's. I love stock Android!

Thanks for clarifying. The FAQ question asking "how is this different from the directions for TWRP?" had me thinking this was an alternative not something that works hand in hand. Perhaps adding that clarity might help others looking in here.

Yeah, you can. If you have TWRP installed, you can flash one of the stock rooted ROMs I put out (they have this built-in), or if you want to just flash this, it's basically the same as stock Odex ROM. Your call, but I'd hop on a deodex ROM, all mods will be done for deodex ROMs.

TWRP boots so far for T-Mobile ,Sprint
First I want to thank these people for making everything easy and possible for us in XDA
Thanks to @shimp208 for making Minimal ADB tool easy to use and also thanks to TWRP team for making root easy
Okay now to install this recovery
First make sure you all all drives on computers installed
USB Link: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/78830/p/30,2625,665
ADB Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Beta recovery Link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxohOX1FGysPaV9ObDVFVjNZWU0
Step Two: Ones you have all your files now you need is the commond to flash this recovery img
So in ADB tools make sure you put the recovery in the folder on where you have it located in your computer
then make sure you hit cmd-here or the icon app that tool left you on your desktop
Then ones that happens make sure you have debugging check on your device
then run this on cmd "adb devies" to make sure your device is listed
then after you have done that make sure you run this commend next "adb reboot bootloader"
ones you do that then your phone should take you too bootloader page then you can flash recovery file
then you will put this commend "fastboot flash boot beta.img""
then ones you do that make sure you use your arrows on your side of your device to get into recovery
Then BOOM your have your twrp flashed
Hit the Big Thumps up for me

Preliminary TWRP 3.1.1-0 for Mate 9/EMUI 8 (Android O)

This is TWRP to Mate 9/Android O, brought to you by FunkyHuawei.
It's just a preliminary build so I can't promise anything/everything will work! Keep that in mind. I'm not responsible if you brick your device.
EDIT: Does not work with Mate 10 series.
DOWNLOAD LINK:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B45NCsO2AL_1NEh2aDFLM3JlYkU
It works on the Android O build here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FunkyHuawei/comments/75uwkd/october_12_first_official_android_o_beta_for/
and the official European beta.
To install:
First, have Android O running. Unlock the bootloader. Download the twrp image.
Then, run in fastboot mode:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp_android_o_mate9_a1.img
Then, reboot holding volume up, and you've got TWRP!
Note: With the Android O update, it is no longer possible to flash the recovery2 partition. Furthermore, the names of the partitions have changed. Please keep that in mind, and don't mess around too much with TWRP, to be sure you don't brick your system!
That's Cool ("L")
A way ahead always.
Thanks,
goldybewon

I think so. A few files that are usually found in boot image are not found in ramdisk_a. So even if we could get it to find that partition it probably won't work anyway.
I tried making a pre-rooted image, but since it's missing sepolicy it wouldn't work (I guess that's why anyway).
I can't live without root . Mainly because all my backups are made with Titanium Backup, which requires root. And I need adfree..

We have confirmed that the flashable zip keeps TWRP on your phone and you get to keep the kernel and your system working fine!
To root with this, flash twrp to your boot partition using fastboot, flash the kernel zip and then flash magisk.
EDIT: also confirmed to work on nougat!
Tried Rey2.zip nd booted back to twrp and the touch didnt work. Using the latest twrp as well

Is Magisk working with this kernel on Oereo B2? Magisk 14.3 caused lots of reboots, 14.6 just doesn't work (no magisk after boot).

Looking into it, I think flashing magisk makes touch work, will see if I can fix it within the kernel side.

The problem with the stock camera app was that it compresses images too much, they have lower the compression ratio but it is still not good enough. You can try it yourself to see what I mean. In broad day light outdoor, the images appears to be great but if you zoomed in, you will see it it just doesn't look right. The color is washed out as well, and you don't see any details. Looks like everything is smoothed out. File size is about 6 to 7mb or so. The low light shots are worst, it's about 3mb and there's more fuzzy stuff and lack of details/sharpness.
If you can dive deep into the apk to see what they set the compression to, and change that to possibly 0, and see what else needs to be changed. I spoke to Arnova8g2, who helped ported the gcam hdr+ to oneplus3/3t and he helped fixed the compression a bit on the older apk but I can't overwrite it no matter what. Let me know if you need any more info.

I felt like a piece of **** for not thanking you for your hard work and effort. I just leeched . So sorry about that. Been running pretty smooth. However sometimes my phone won't wake up immediately. But that could be edxposed or gravity box or both altogether.
Hey, thank you for putting this together. Does it come with the stock kernel or arter97's by the way?
Also, would you consider making a odex flashable zip as well? I have SuperR’s donated kitchen as welll, but I don’t know if you had to do anything special regarding encryption or anything. If not, I will try to make an Odex zip myself.
Thank you again for your work!

I agree Odex is just as important to free up space and optimization I only did this for easier customizing. Just unpack system.img and set option to meta then build a zip.
Is there any way you can make this rom work with substratum? So we can finally have full theming? Thanks again for your contribution.

Idk how you're having difficulty with the cut and dry instructions he has given. TBH if you can't figure it out you shouldn't be rooting your phone.
