Data Limit by application

Ok so basically I am looking for an app that is similar to that modaco no data app... BUT I need it to allow data access to certain applications (atleast one). Is there any application like this that can allow certain applications to access data while denying the rest?
check out SPB Wireless Monitor I know it will break down your data usage and show you how much data each app is using. Can't remember if it has a limiting feature (cut off data to apps you don't want) or not.
Most apps for winmo have the option to disable data in themselves because developers know that not everyone has a data plan.

[Q] Choosing Which Apps Run in the Background

Is there an app or a setting where I can choose specifically which applications are allowed to use data or which applications can run in the background?
I have a 200 mb plan from ATT and if I leave data on all the time i go over my limit, but if I could choose which applications are allowed to use background data then I would be able to leave data on and not go over my limit. Thanks!

try this DroidWall?
I've been using DroidWall for long time, it's very handy for rooted phone.
You would be much better off checking, which apps use your data and what they use, and uninstalling / disabling the rest. MUCH better solution.

how do you save data?

hi this is my first post.
just bought a used 8.9 att tab. right now i'm using wifi, but planning to get att sim prepaid data plan for domestic and my international trip. i know there are alot of apps running in the background like the accu weather apps. those constantly pull data, correct? my question is how do i stop them from pulling data? i just want to used my tablet and save as much as data as possible and i only want to use it when i need it like surfing the web, checking weather when i need it. do i kill those apps running in the background and how do i kill it? what other apps are pulling in data beside the accu weather map, the standard apps that came on my 8.9 honeycomb os.
or should i just disconnect my 3g connection when i'm not in used and just turn on wifi instead? and then turn on my 3g when need it? i'm planning to get the cheapest plan which is 250 MB for $15/month prepaid.
You will probably have to check settings of each and every app you have, to reduce the frequency of background updates, and perhaps to set them up to only download on WiFi connection. Not all apps provide such flexibility. I know I removed a few apps (from my phone) because they didn't allow to save data traffic.
I recommend you install an app that tracks and reports your mobile data PER APPLICATION.
I use RadioOpt Traffic Monitor for that, on my phone.

installed this apps today and ran the apps with my wifi. holy crap. just today briefing turning on my 8.9 for about 4 hours and light surfing on my dolphin browser, it has 189 MB!
here are some of the breakdowns:
total traffic: 189 MB
system traffic: 147 MB
dolphin browser: 20 MB
and other misc. running apps in that didn't took much data.
my question is majority of it is from system traffic. what is system traffic? how do i stop it running? if i plan to get the cheapest att data plan for my 8.9 which is 250 MB, it wouldn't even last a day!
any1 here subscribe to att with their tab and how do you cut on the data you use on your tab with your att data plan? thx in advance.

[HELP] Mobile Data Consumption for Android?

greetings friends,
i have a problem with mobile data consumption for this latest upgrade. before this, when it was 4.1.2, i didn't remember android OS really need that much data. but when i upgraded the OS to 4.2.2, the data consumption is considerably high...
the problem is, i use daily internet package where i have to renew the pass everyday. when it exceeded the quota, i'll have to pay using my credit balance. and it is very costly!
how do i stop or disable the android OS internet consumption? any idea?
p/s: unable to post a picture. newbie here.
Just go into:
settings/more/mobile networks/and uncheck mobile data. That turns off data transmission - turn it on when you need it.
Easier way is to have mobile data on the quick pull down menu and turn it off there when you don't need it...
You can also enable Stamina Mode in power settings which disables data traffic when the screen is off

dear sir,
thanks for the response. very much appreciate it. :good:
i did limit the usage. but my concern is that, how can i turn off the 'Android OS' or at least limit the OS usage of internet. sometimes i didnt really use the internet, but it seemed the traffic kept getting higher. i did switch off the auto-update for all my apps.

Hi mate, I was facing the same problem after upgrading to 4.2.2.
The cause behind this is backup and rest.
Go to Settings->Backup & Reset and uncheck Back up my data.
The phones starts taking a backup of almost everything on your phone on some cloud server, which eats a lot of data.
Once you uncheck it, your data consumption will return to normal.

5 Best Ways To Reduce Mobile Data Consumption
5. Update your Apps Over WiFi Only
Many apps in Google play store get unnecessary updates by unnecessary i mean they are meant to fix bugs only, and have you noticed how many times all your apps were auto-updated without your consent, spending all them precious GBs, so wasting your finite date over useless updates is not a great idea. To disable Auto-Update you just need to open the Google Play Store and tap on the side tray button, click on Settings option and then select the “Auto-update apps” and select Auto-update apps over WiFi only.
4. Turn On Data Compression on Google Chrome
Most of us are Android users, coz this process is only for Android Users. And if you are an Android user you are also likely Chrome users. Most of us Don’t know that Chrome supports a feature that can reduce data consumption, Google states this feature should save you about 50% in data, without even feeling any difference. All you need to do is open Chrome and hit the menu button and select Settings, click Data Saver and then toggle the option and it done.
3. Cache Everything You Can
Like Google Maps and Google Play Music allow for storing data locally and many other apps. Make sure to save as many as caches and data you can while you are on a WiFi network. Afterwards you can enjoy your saved data without wasted Precious Mobile Data.
2. Avoid Online Streaming
The most awesome Things over the internet consume more data, this includes streaming videos and music, as well as looking through high quality images or GIF files. Try to avoid this kind of consumption as much as possible if you really want to save your mobile data. And if you need to watch it, make sure you change the settings and set quality at lower rates.
1. Restrict Background Data
Do you know that when your phone is not in use some apps spend your too much data. the feature we about to tell is actually one of the greatest features on Android. Background data allows apps to keep everything updated which leads to a great amount of Data wastage. so here is what you can do, Go into Settings > Data Usage and select Restrict Data for the apps that consume large amount of data and dont worry you can undo this by the same method.

Change data limit / warning with tasker

Hi
I would like to change data limit and data warning with tasker.
No matter with shell plugin or intent to some app ... googled quite a bit but could not find a solution ...
Does anybody know one? SecureTask seems to be able to read the data usage "Network usage" but also cannot adjust the limit/warning ...
Would be great to be able to do that. The plan is to change the limit daily so that even in the end of the month 1/30 (or 1/31 or 1/28 or 1/29) of data is still available ...
Regards
