Custom ROM thread - Huawei P8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi guys, i was thinking of making a custom ROM for the P8 since this phone deserves more to be the nexus 5x than the actual 5x . Nothing too complicated though, just a stock 5.0.1 AOSP with a reizable nav bar, just to be a stock experience. Anyone interrested ? Devs ? I notice that bootloader is unlockable, so the rest should not be hard.

yes. we will wait your AOSP for p8

there is already custom rom
ask this guy .. @Blackball

Thanks, i just did, i wonder though why isn t it posted... We'll see... Btw any idea on where to buy the special touch plus screen protector ? I am from eastern europe btw

It would be awesome to have a stock android ROM for this phone. The hardware looks so awesome that I bought it but the software looks out of place from the stock android apps. a Stock ROM would be awesome. Not saying that the device is slow, I just don't like the all dark backgrounds in apps, it is easier especially in sunlight if you have light background.

1.Yes, you need to S-OFF first using AlphaRevX and then you can root.
2.Its not up to its 8MP mark, the noise reduction is a lot in the camera, in other words, a 8MP picture on this phone is actually not a 8MP picture. My previous phone that had a 5MP sensor used to take far better pictures.
3.The battery life's great, if you use ARHD ROM it improves even further.
4.No, there is a wifi drop issue but that's with all gingerbread phones.

if your device comes with froyo, update it via OTA or more better is to make a gold card, download a RUU that supports AlphaRevX (WWE European) put it in it and flash via bootloader. Then you can use AlphaRevX to S-OFF.(You will find all such instructions in the android development category) Some new official ROM bases do not support AlphaRevX so it better to update via goldcard just to be safe.
Sense 3.0 ROM i.e Virtious Unity performs very good, doesn't lag at all, comes with a great kernel with OC on demand. I personally don't like sense and am on MIUI. You can give CM7 a try but the buttons won't rotate(not something of much concern, will probably be fixed in the next update) It would be stock vanilla android and you can customize it in any way you like plus it will perform very fast or you could try MIUI which is based on CM7. You could also try ARHD, its clean, fast and stable.

+1 for the amazing reply man . thnx a lot
So now i have made my mind that this phone is my next n first Android
I think its necessary that you should be knowing these 2 minor problems.
1.Back cover creeking, happens to only some people, can be fixed using a plastic tape or piece of paper placed inside. Its nothing to worry about.
2.If you view the rotatable buttons from one side, one will appear brighter than the others, the opposite if you view from the other side. Its probably because of the dual LCD button layers. Again not something of much concerns, if you see it straight, you wont notice. On my phone, I can partially see the landscape search button in portrait mode, it makes it look a bit weird.

Ok thnx i think im ok with these

Since you're in India, if you but this phone, you will have a Asian ROM so you would have to change to a european one in order to S-OFF. If you need any help later on, don't hesitate to ask.The guides are available in the development section that explain every step in detail.

[Q] Will S-Pen still work on custom roms?

Hello! This is probably a stupid question but will the pressure sensitivity of the S-pen still work after flashing a custom rom? Also, will S-Memo still be installed as well? Thanks!
im using rocket rom v20 and s-pen s memo works well
Thanks! Would you recommend Rocket? There are so many roms I'm having a hard time picking one. I just got my note last week, so I'm brand new.

First to say all ROMs are "good"
Pick up one who caches your eyes with beauty.
For me is King Droids ROM beautyfull, big icons and its BLACK.
On the AMOLED display is black beautyfull, not only the colors.

depends on the kind of custom rom: if samsung framework etc. is there it should be no problem. so custom roms based on official builds should work! in CM9 for example the pen would "only" be recognized as normal touch input, and there would be no button support (due to the missing samsung proprietary files)!

But in the end i'm quite happy with my o4x. Sure, i loved to have cm9/cm10/miui on my galaxy s, but it was because 2.3.x with touchwiz was just horrible. I can live with 4.0.3 optimusUI, imo its one of the best stock roms. And i think Lg will eventually give us jellybean, if they wont we will raise a too big sh1tstorm, and no one will ever buy their phones
no way in hell will LG ever give way

i do love mine, because of the look and the specs i would love a custom rom, but i always used a custom rom because it improved the phone itself (first time having phone with 1+ core, had htc hd2) and now i got quad core, so its always as fast as it needs to be, not a single game yet uses all the cores at one single time, so i really dont need a custom rom, only a good theme , which, i found i think, the xperia theme has a darker ics colored theme, its nice

we have h811 G5 full port rom. available

we have thanks to astrako G5 full rom port. working . he and i worked on getting it to work on h811.
so thank him.. heres the thread.. enjoy.. am loving it.

didnt get what you mean. a good way or bad.
No worries, was just making a joke that got lost in translation it seems.
Sold my G4 yesterday so now I'm on the lookout for another one, maybe I'll get lucky again but I don't think I'll find an H811 in pristine condition for $12.50 once more anytime soon.

i guess so. didnt get joke.
i think it does matter. as theres little or could i say no more development for G4. this is great news. its first G5 full port rom with framework.... am also glad that i was part of the G2 G4 full port rom. same firsts one to achieve. am not dev i was just part of the team..
so good cause development seems dead.. untill we get nougat.
i doubt .. you will that was a bargain. i bought mine for 300 dollars..
I'm sure I could ask this in the H815 thread, but how do the camera blobs work? Seeing as the camera hardware in the G4 is the same as in the G5 (save for the wide angle), are we to expect similar performance to the stock G4 roms?
Oh, and thanks very much for your contributions! Nice to not be left behind with the H811 because of people like you!

i have removed G5 camera cause theres a bug that needs to be fixed. at times taking pic with flash would cause a reboot.
so am using V10. i asked ASTRAKO about it he says that all the modes are in the camera
performance on camera well same as G4 only some visuals . i think manual mode its working.. as for rom. id say yes. i admit that first time i flashed it hanged at times when swithcing windows... but reflash again and this time i let it cool down and settle.. i think the only lag i see its a 1 secong lag is when using recents and swithching apps maybe its the transition animation. but rest its fluid. and i feel same battery and performance.. no reboots .. and like i said barely noticiable lag.
thank you those words means alot to me.. but better yet thank him on his post ..
am loving this rom.. very much. thank you. :good:
Best stock base Rom period. For the most hate I have to stock roms I most admit that I left RR after 8 months been on my phone for this Rom. Is just beautiful and everything works.

MI MiX, FIRST STEPS?

I'll have my new Mi Mix tomorrow. What are some of/all of the things I should do to make it the best it can be? At the very least, what are some of the big things I should do right away?
Bootloader Unlocking
OEM Unlocking
Update OS to 7.?.? or Oreo if possible? How?
Root - Anyone know what the best method is, maybe provide a link, I'm a noob.
Flash ROM - What's the best ROM out there? One that doesn't cripple the phone in anyway, what are the benefits of it?
Pixel/Pixel 2 Camera App, is that included in any ROMs? Is there a way to install it only?
Is there any other way to make the camera better?
Is sticking with stock worth it or just to unbearable?
Did I miss anything? Any links you can provide would be greatly appreciated! I get so overwhelmed looking through these forums I wind up giving up. I really want to make this phone the best it can be!
Thanks in Advance!
P.S. If you and recommendations for cases or screen protectors, that would be cool too!

+1 for that. Some call miui is laggy etc, which is bullshît. I was always choosing miui even on non-mi devices. Theme engine of miui: A fk'n cool stuff ever built in my eyes. Easy to set and customizable ?
Yet, I tried many of Los/Aosp based roms on Mix, always went back to miui, Epic rom actually.
Thanks for all the replies! I got the phone a day early and holy crap is this thing gorgeous!
Anyway, @Kalisfura1001, I took a brief look at the guides and boy there's a lot of modifications, tweaks, etc... Surely standard for any phone on these forums but still a bit overwhelming for me. I'll dig deeper once I'm more settled in with the phone. Thanks.
@gtshiftin6, @james1089, I'm happy to hear that you really enjoy using MIUI. Some questions for you if you would be so kind:
Is there an MIUI beta update out there with Nougat and is it worth it? Or are you just using the latest MIUI provided by OTA updates?
What tweaks or App installs have you done. if any, to help out with the poor performance of the camera?
Are there any tweaks in the settings that you would recommend turning on/off?
That's all I can think of at the moment. If you guys think of anything else that new owner may not be aware of please share!
Thanks
