Root on AUS Telstra service to use DiskDigger to recover pictures? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all just wanted to find out how to do this
Thanks
edit:
I want to root just so I can recover files as most apps must have root.
Then I will unroot to get samsung pay and reset the knox counter.

Tripping Knox is permanent. You cannot reset Knox, even by unrooting your phone. Only Samsung can do it, and even so, it's very rare.

Thanks so I have done a bit more research and like you said permanent and then therefore Samsung Pay will never work. It will be a while yet before its available in AUS anyway so I'm not bothered.
So rooting is back on the cards to recover my camera album I accidentally deleted. It seems so daunting and over my head though. I don't want to brick my phone.
Do you have a easy and effective recommendation for backing up the note 5 before I head down the path of rooting?

Even then it's not very likely you can get the pictures back. Every time you touch your phone to do anything you are likely to overwrite those old memory locations - even by booting the phone.

^Someone else said that and its already been a week. I may try anyway to test out the functionality of a rooted phone. What are the benefits of rooting for a non-power user?
Anyone have a recommended backup service?

Root and Samsung pay?

Just have a question if I root my phone will I be unable to use Samsung pay even if I restore to stock firmware and unroot it? Is that's the case I think I will just live with it.

hi,
in sort yes, if you root you will trip Knox counter Yes, even if you flash back to stock Rom, your Knox counter will show. that's it's tripped (0x 1.. etc.) So you won't be able to use Samsung Pay.
All my devices Note 2,Note 3 , Note 4
Note 8.0 tablet is rooted Not the Note5, so far not interested. It's smooth enough, Themes in Theme Store i am happy with.
Battery is very good overall.
I get my "root " enjoyment " with all my other devices....!
Just my take on situation of root re Note5.
Good luck
Yes. Even if u ruu back to total stock and unroot your knox wil still be tripped and samsung pay will not work. This happened on my s6. After unroot and odin back it still was tripped. For this reason i choose to not root my note 5

Maybe there will be a way to reset the Knox counter in the future. I had used triangles away for my S4 in the past.

Is rooting with Magisk possible?

Hey im new to Samsung phones and got an S10+ preordered. Will I be able to flash TWRP and Magisk the day I get it or will it take some time? Also is there anything special about rooting Samsung phones?
Thank you for your answers!
I would not expect for immediately. Devs need to reverse engineer/hack their way around the firmware locks to attain root and keep the device bootable. Once they do that, the devices are ours. though I cannot imagine it would be too different from the 9 series with flash counters and such not.
Edit: Typos.

If it's the US snapdragon I highly doubt it but with exynos most likely and it will trip knox just like the Note 9.

I will get the exynos version. What are the disadvantages of triggering knox? Thank you for letting me know.

You will loose Samsung Pay, secure folders and banking apps probably won't work. There is more but that's all that comes to mind right now. Uninstalling root and flashing everything to stock won't fix the lost apps either, it's permanent. I think it will reset your phone too.
Root
Banking apps will work once able to flash Magisk, simply using a system-less root method will allow for work arounds such as Magisk hide etc. which will definitely allow for such apps to work. Exactly as has been seen for the past few generations of devices using Magisk! Anyway... on another note, yes bootloader will very likely be unlockable on Exynos variants allowing for TWRP and custom rom installation but highly unlikely on Snapdragon variants.

Yes because the past root methods trip knox and blow a efuse witch is not reversible. Unless a different root method is discovered this phone will be no different. As the post says above there are some workarounds but that is not a guarantee. Some apps can not be fooled.

Are you talking about sig. spoofing like Firegapps and stuff?
I'm waiting for anyone who has enough guts to try, all I really want is v4a.
This is the last galaxy I buy I think, prolly go one plus next time. But yea this is a waiting game. I'm waiting for someone to bribe the dev's to prenstall v4a for us in an ota update. Hey be a great April fools joke ....heh

short answer: no, you cant reset knox back to 0x0.
The reason i didn't root was that i lose more functionality than i gain and there's no going back to knox 0x0 after that. I couldn't imagine my S3 Mini or S5 without root but my Note9 is perfect without root as many things that were available only with root in the past are included in the stock firmware or in Good Lock modules.

It's a scam. The Knox flag is indicating the state of an eFuse, which can't be changed nor reverted.

The ONLY way to get KNOX back to 0X0 is to replace the mainboard...
You can get a rooted phone to display KNOX as 0X0 but it is cosmetic only and won't fool any apps that don't work on a rooted phone.
If you haven't replaced the boot file, rooted or replaced the recovery then an app you have installed likely is malware that has tried or successfully gained root privileges...

Simple answer NO i made a mistake rooting my Tab S4 i'm never ever rooting unless i get a SnapDragon as they i heard you can root without trpping Knox! Also root is not needed as we have Youtube Vanced, Disconnect Pro! Package Disabler Pro, and #Mono oh forgot about Goodlock! Unless your planning on running Custom Roms it's simply not worth Rooting! As it's to much headache to root update reroot etc!

This^ I also removed a few preinstalled apps via ADB and granted one permission for Tasker via ADB as well. Root was mandatory in the past but not any more at all.

Question Is it worth rooting?

So I will lose warranty in June, and require my phone to be rooted for a few reasons however, I just wanted to know is it likely that the screen could die like others mentioned? and will Samsung repair screen if it's rooted? Also how would I root it? Also could Google Pay work?
I Need root access since I live in a bad reception area and want to use Auto airplane toggle as it would save battery life and other mods.
Anyways, Sorry for bombarding people with questions
If your warranty is done by June, and you root the device after your warranty period, then it doesn't matter if you have a dead screen. You will still have to pay to get it replaced. In case you root before that, you will lose all functions related to Knox.
Thanks. Are dead screens common issue?

Rooting is also in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...t-for-galaxy-s21-series-b-n-0-u-u1-w.4233567/
Btw I am also considering rooting, I just don't know if it is worth it, if there are some good mods that requires the phone to be rooted.
i'd root too if there is a way to revert Knox, if only to optimize them google apps under naptime, in particular, and squeeze out more batt juice, in general. but, sadly, no...
I finally rooted my phone!!!
Just one thing, How will I update my phone for future updates (like one up 4.1)?
You will need to download the latest release for your model from Sam firmware and flash it on your phone.
Every time I try updating my phone I get this error what do I do please help!?

You cant use the system OTA updates anymore. Use ODIN with Home_CSC to update monthly firmware.

Question Trying to get rid of a pre-configured knox profile from a Tab A8 given out as financial aids for families.

It comes with a pre-configured Knox profile and I was wondering if I can get rid of it through rooting. It basically has a customized start and shut down screen, and persistent notification telling you how generous the government is and such. I could factory reset it but sadly it doesn't do anything. Note that this should be a South East Asian/Asia model, if that matters.
Let's just hope its not a Walmart Xcover situation. Would be nice if someone could help me out, thanks. I don't mind if I can only use the stock A8 roms from Samsung, I just want the government spying out of my device.
You could try to manually flash stock ROM made for other region

I just hope it doesn't trip knox and brick it though, iirc this is a similar system in a telco payment locked phone right?
After doing some reading I've found some tutorial on flashing a stock Samsung rom through recovery via Odin but I don't know if the pre-configured profile would go away or not though
Alright so i tried to Odin reflash it, didn't work. I think the only way is through bootloader unlock root, but I'm afraid that Knox would get in the way and brick my phone though. Anyone else can confirm? Thanks.

Just tried again with a stock rom outside of knox supported region, didn't work either.
So yeah unlocking the bootloader seems to be the only way now. Again, i'm still worried about Knox interfering with the rooting process and brick the phone

I don't think it would brick the device but I don't think it will work either. Knox doesn't get erased by anything the user can do AFAIK. That's why it's called "Knox Secured". It would be useless if you could get rid of it simply by unlocking the bootloader.
