HELP - Black screen on XT1060 5.1 - Moto X Q&A

Ok, I dun goofed. Phone was working fine but I tried to add a line to build.prop and now the phone will show the boot logo but then goes black. I made a copy of the file first and tried putting the old one back with the TWRP file manager, but it's still doing the same thing.
I need help with this fast, my gf is going to kill me if I don't get he phone working again soon. :/
Can someone post a flashable zip of the 5.1 build.prop please. I'm just assuming this will fix it. I've tried extracting the system.img to get it but I obviously don't know what I'm doing.
Thanks

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!
After sitting here with high blood pressure for 45 minutes I fixed it. I just pulled and pushed the files with ADB. I guess using ES file explorer to play with system files is a big NO. Lesson learned. :/

Bootup Screen For Kyocera Zio M6000

First and foremost i want to thank esk02k and his friend for the images. All Credit goes to him for the images check out his post on xda called the thc weed leaf (i would post the link to his page but it wont let me says out side links are not allowed by new users but yet its an internal link). I didnt use all of them as there was only 37 images that i had to replace and i couldnt find the file that links to the boot up animation png files to add in the extra files so i used most of them and all i did was make it to the right size and converted them from jpg to png.
I am using the stock rom and my phone is rooted using universal androot version 1.6.2 beta5 (search for 1-click root for N1 to find this it will work on this phone) you have to install super user then you need root explorer found in the market. Now on to how to install this.
1) Install universal androot and the root explorer run universal androot to get your phone rooted you may chose soft root which only lets you temporary root till you reboot (dont worry it will not void your warrenty)
2) Download kyocera zio m6000.zip at the bottom of this post and extract it to a folder on your pc
3) Copy the folder to the root of your sd card
4) Open up root explorer and click on /data/FLEX/bootanimation
5) Copy Startup_Sound_M6000.ogg from the folder you copied to your sd card to the /data/FLEX/bootanimation folder overwriting the one in there
6) Next goto /data/FLEX/bootanimation/assets folder and copy all the png files from the folder you copied to your sd card to the assets folder over writing the ones in there
7) Exit out of root explorer and reboot your phone to see your new boot up screen and enjoy the first mod for this phone. (Note im not sure why the android screen dont show up no more when none of the files that was replaced was the android png files only the cricket png files are replaced)
Well there you have it the very first mod for this phone i hope you all like it as this is my first attempt at making a boot up screen animation im not sure how to make it animate more so please give constructive critisim do not bash it please and please tell esk02k thank you for all the hard work he did with the images all i made was the start up sound and resized the images and converted them to png to work on this phone so in all it only took me bout 7 hours his work was a ton harder and probably took him days maybe weeks. So major props to esk02k
**edit** Wow i started this by making the first mod for the phone and showed you all where to replace the stuff and got the ball rolling and not one thank you. Wow it shows me how much im appreiated here.
Everytime I try to copy the files, it says I do not have enough space. What do I need to get rid of?

Remove some unwanted apps or apps that came on the stock rom that are worthless to you i removed the demo games that the company put on it and that gave me enough free space you need 6.50 mega bytes free to use this i made it as small as i could with out making it look like crap. you can remove some of the apps from /data/app i would recomend to back up the files before u delete them in case u have to put them back.
I have tried to copy the new pngs to the assets folder, but every time. I do, the original files replace the new ones. The closest I got was when I rebooted and I saw the first png of the original cricket boot animation, then it skipped all but the very last one of the new png I attempted to install.
Can anybody help me?

Apparently, the same number of images as the original must be used?
I tried one of my own, using boot screen found elsewhere on XDA that had more images. Didn't work.
Going to play around w/ the images today, reduce the count to the same as the original and see if that's indeed the case.
Or maybe it was the size of the images. I dunno yet.
Doesn't do a thing to my Cricket Zio.

Well, the 2.2 thread appears to refer to the windows downloader, with which I have two problems:
1) I don't run windows but linux, and
2) To do this, it appears I need to get into USB debug mode. I'm stuck in fastboot.
What I think I really need is the stock ROM from the Sanyo Zio. Does somebody here have this?
I can see if I can use adb to pull the 2.2 rom and if I have any luck I will let you know

I'm wondering if ReactOS is far enough along to run the updater. Will have to give it a try, liveCD.
No go. Booted the live CD, couldn't access any of the media devices to access the update tool.
Hmm
but listen, I can't get the phone into USB debug mode, so how can I run the updater? At the moment I'm stuck with fastboot. Normal boot is black screen, no response of any kind, no adb.
Turn the phone off, hold volume up down and power and your phone will bopt into modem download mode. Then update.

[MOD] Silent Battery Full Notification CWM3 Compatible

*Updated 2/6/11 to be flashable with CWM3 or less*
So, after many nights of being awakened by that annoying battery full audio notification I figured I'd do something about it. Here is a flashable zip that replaces the .ogg file that the system uses with a blank one. Will work on any ROM/File System.

I did something similar to this in my newest version of my ROM, I took the original sound files and made the extension FILENAME.ogg.bak
This removes the sound but if you want it back you can just remove the ".bak" portion of the file name.

Worked like a charm! Now I can charge AND sleep!
Updated
Updated so it's CWM3 compatible.
What is the name of the sound file that makes the battery full notification sound? I'm too sleepy at night to determine which sound just woke me up.
Thanks.
edit: Is it TW_Battery_caution.ogg? I've renamed it with a .bak extension and charging my phone now.

Installing Silent BatteryFull Notification CWM3
I am a newbie to all of this, but am sick of being awake all night long with the battery notification waking me up and not being able to go back to sleep.
I found your post and attached file.
I have a droid X - global - motorola.
1. Will this work on this phone?
2. Are there any risks of damaging the rest of the operating system?
3. If no - how do I install this on the phone?
Any help to get me back to sleep would be appreciated.
Thank you
No this will not work on your phone. This is a MOD for the SAMSUNG EPIC 4G and ONLY the SAMSUNG EPIC 4G
EB13 OR DK28?
if DK28 i'd like to request an EB13 please
why does the file have to be replaced
why cant it just be removed using some sorta file explorer on the phone?
further more WTF is the reason for this sound other then to wake people up and/or piss them off? - as far as I know all phones stop charging when they get full so you wont over charge the phone

[SCRIPT] Soft Brick Recovery

For Windows users, I've created a script based on designgear's thread on steps for recovery from a soft brick.
designgear's original thread on soft brick recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966405
-----
This script is all-inclusive. It will temp. root (no need to use SuperOneClick), create a /data/recovery folder, push services.jar, framework.jar, and framework-res.apk to the /data/recovery folder, and then copy them to /system/framework
Instructions:
USB debugging needs to be ON.
Unpackage the .7z archive
Execute "Run Me - Atrix Soft Brick Recovery"
Let the script run, and wait for the phone to reboot.
(Reboot might take a few moments, leave your phone alone and wait it out!)

Temporarily Removed. Will return soon...

How do i use it, if my phone is stuck in the "M" screen?
Tried to run while in Early USB enumeration - didn't work.
Any other option from recovery / fast boot / SRD - that may work to un-brick?
Thanks in advance
The best way I can figure is to force the phone out from the moto screen. Put the phone into early usb enumeration. using Adeo0.7z click install as soon as the phone mounts. That got my phone to boot up yesterday. Once you hit the power button, to lock or turn off, reboot. It'll just go back to the moto screen and hang.

It looks like I'm having a problem with the shell root.
---
Use this temporary solution (which utilizes SuperOneClick), until I can get a chance to fix things.
1. Download SuperOneClick from shortfuse's site: http://www.shortfuse.org/
2. Download my temp script, and unpack
3. Unpackage and run SuperOneClick
4. Boot the Atrix into FastBoot, and enable Early USB enumeration
5. When you see "Reading ODM fuse: 1", plug your phone into the computer and run Shell Root with SuperOneClick
6. Once rooted, run the temp script "Run Me - Atrix Soft Brick No Root"
Your phone will boot into Android, and then reboot. Leave things alone until that reboot happens, and you no longer have the blinking red light.

Sorry 'bout this, I hope to get my original script fixed asap.
I used this script because I wanted my stock notification bar back so I used it. However I followed the instructions from the previous post and it still gave me a boot loop. I figured out that there was something with the services.jar and the framework.jar in the 7z file because I used those files the manual way and it still looped. So i replaced those files with these here http://hotfile.com/dl/108780455/13cd9f6/recoveryfiles.zip.html and it worked!
I just checked both scripts, and MD5 is verified against retail dump:
Blur_Version.4.1.26.MB860.ATT.en.US
If you pushed a different working file, can you send it to me so I can look at? I've ran pushed these framework files multiple times to my phone now.
Thanks,

(Update 12/22/11) [Bootanimation/Splash] Lightning Vortex w/ animated HTC splash

Hey XDA, been away for a while and just finished my first semester of college. Checked up on my old thread to find alot of positive things. A while back I wanted to do more with this and never got around to it, but figured it was about time I did...
The new animation starts somewhat similarly to the old one with added transition between the HTC logo and the vortex. Also after the vortex, instead of a static image at the end I've thrown together a completely new piece that will loop until the phone finally decides to start.
This version also uses JPGs rather than PNGs. I just found out JPGs could be used the other day... After optimizing the PNGs, (something that wasn't considered for the old one) this new one comes out to a total of 234MB... (one of those things that happen when you only use AfterFX for the project...) If anyone would like this anyway... Let me know and I'll put it up somewhere.
I also made a basic splash screen, something that was misadvertised with the old version. It is the first image in the attachments and can be installed thru bootloader. (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?37e8as4f4m68cwu)
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?w1ci9p2ugk7271d
If you would like the stock sound to use with this download it from the attachments below, extract the mp3 and add it to /system/media.
GIFs were 4-5MB each so heres a video instead...
Old version has been moved to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20568970 if anyone wants to check it out.
Thanks for the link, and if you get a chance to try it out let me know how you like it
This is [email protected]$$! Way better then the stock bootanimation
Great work!

I personally used clockwork recovery and did install sdcard/update.zip
Place the update.zip from the download onto the root of the sd card, then in ROM manager, reboot into recovery and install the update.
There are alternatives to this such as just putting the bootanimation.zip into the right folder using root explorer, but I ran into permission problems so I did it this way.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Is this new boot animation really 24MB? Like, I yanked it out of the update .zip because I normally move them with Root Explorer. I find easier, and I have a system to doing this where I save the old ones in the folder and just rename them. Allowing me to swap them out at will by simply altering the name of the bootanimation . zip back to that.
-Edit- NVM. I see why it's 24MB now.
Holy effing sh!t cakes! That's a lot of graphical content to run through there in the beginning. Looks awesome though!
Again, just to anyone reading this that hasn't tried this boot animation yet.

Glad you like it. I would have done the same using root explorer, but I ran into read only and permission problems for anything i tried to use it with. And I really tryed to lower the size the best I could... It was originally 165mb, then found out it was rendering w/o compression (lossless), changed render settings managed to get to 95mb... to get it to 24mb I lowered the quality a little more and it skips every other frame. After uploading it I attempted to make it smaller but all i can do is lower the quality even more, and at 17mb it looked pretty bad.
PS- could someone link me to the stock FinalThunder.mp3 I haven't had it since I flashed my ROM

No I wasn't *****ing about the size. I was checking to make sure I didn't bork something up extracting it. I was just verifying as most of them are 2-6MB.
Here's the Final Thunder .mp3
I ripped it right from the system folder with RE so it should be good. Make sure you check the permissions though. As they may need to be altered to get it to jive with the way it gets read. It should be;
X-X-[0]
X-[0]-[0]
X-[0]-[0]
I think.
X meaning checked.
I had to rar it to post it.
Edit: Yes, that's the way the permissions need to be above, but when it gets extracted it changes them to;
[0]-[0]-[0]
X-X-X
X-[0]-X
So if you just drop it in there it probably WON'T WORK. Make sure you change the permissions!
Again, thanks for the awesome boot animation!

I also did all of this before I saw the post edit, so I did just throw it in there, but it still worked =o

Hardly a fair trade for the kick ass boot animation. But no problem.
Yeah, many moons ago RE owned me until I found that little mount r/w button. After finding it however it's been an extremely useful tool.
I'm surprised the MP3 worked for you actually w/o changing permissions. :shrugs: I'm leaving the warning there in case someone else downloads it for the same purpose and it doesn't.
Which file or folder do i drop this into to make sound work. I am on gingeritis and had to delete the VZW_bootanimation and there is no sound once i swapped that boot animation out with this one?

It's either system/media
or
system/customize/resource
But I think it's system/media
Find the bootanimation .zip and that's where the sound file should go.
I tried putting it system/customize/resource and that didnt do anything so i will try system media I guess just put in the main file or any one of the sbu files I have

GPU
weather

If anyone wants to try this, it is a zip of the vortex boot animation hopefully with the sound. It is for anyone running a rom that has a boot animation in the system/customize/resource folder and the boot animation is labeled VZW_bootanimation.
Let me know how it goes please
My apologies if the OP does not want this and will take down if asked

I got the animation to work, but no thunder. Tried everything! I think it may be my current set up (gingeritits and imosyons 2.5.4.test.4 kernel) since day one, there's been no sound. It came with the old school PC looking bootanimation and I read somewhere that, that boot ani is supposed to sound like a disc drive spooling up with clicks n what not, but it never did. I remember on the virus Rom I had, it DID have sound and the .mp3 was called VRsound.mp3. I made my own, fixed permissions, renamed it to VRsound.mp3 and replaced it. That worked. I could be wrong, but because this ROM didn't come with sound in the first place, I just can't get it.... Oh well. Still a tight boot! sound or not!

Bricked my Nexus 6 due to 0 byte build.prop

I have a rooted Nexus 6 and wanted to edit my build.prop file in order to enable Wifi sharing. I made a backup first, and then when I saved build.prop after editing it was 0 bytes. Then I saw the backup was 0 bytes. First I crapped myself, then I copied in a N6 specific build.prop I downloaded off the net to /system, but no matter what I did, that new file was 0 bytes even though the original was 5k. 'df' showed I was not out of space in /system (had about 1.5 meg free). I even tried mounting /system RW just in case it was RO.
I finally decided after 3 hours of this that perhaps the whole thing was RO and a reboot would clear everything (based on a couple of other posts I read).
I held my breath, rebooted..... and as I feared I just get the black screen that says Google with a lock.
I can't shut off the phone (to reboot into recovery mode), the Nexus doesn't have an off button. I hold power down and it reboots. I give it a short press and it does nothing. I hold them all down and it reboots.
Can I get a pointer please to a thread that might help bail me out?
As a side note, I'm having problems connecting to my phone in debug mode with adb (even before the reboot), so if I need to use those tools, that's another hurdle I'll have to figure out.
Hold the power button + volume down to get to the bootloader. Go to recovery and reflash whatever rom you were on . A dirty flash should suffice.
Hit thanks if this solve your problem.
Getting a little further. Managed to boot into TWRP. Got into terminal, tried to copy in the build.prop file to /system that way but am being told I'm out of space.
Found a similar thread here I'm digging through.

Just saw post #2, thanks. Thought I had it. I freed up some space in /system/app by deleting a couple of foreign keyboard files. Then copied in the build.prop file and this time it was the correct file size. Rebooted, but no change. I really thought that would have fixed things.
As an aside, df lies, there really was no space in /system
Looks like what I found was not a stock build.prop. I have no idea how much it differs but it contains this line:
ro.build.display.id=NexZen by VECTUS V07
Ha! Also it's for 5.1.1. Darn! I should have looked at this first.
Does anybody happen to have a pointer to a stock Nexus 6 6.0.1 build.prop? Google has failed me on this one.
Your original problem was, as you've found, that you had no space in your system partition. The reported 1.5 mb is way to little space to do any kind of system mods... I've found i need at least 50-60 mb free.
Stock build.prop is easiest found in the factory images, in system.img. If you're pushing it to your phone in recovery, don't forget to set the correct permissions (chmod 644).
Thanks, I did pull the file out of the stock ROM, but I must have gone wrong somewhere because it didn't work. I then looked at the /system directory and it was empty other than /system/bin. No idea how the heck I could have deleted the other files in there. That would have been a nice clean fix. But now I'm forced to do a flash. What a waste of a night! Thought it would be nice and simple to turn on wifi sharing. Ha!
I figured 1.5MB would be more than enough to add a single line to a file, the file system block size I'm guessing is in the 2-4K neighborhood. Regardless, it clearly wasn't enough for whatever reason.
I was on a stock ROM. Since I can't easily do a dirty flash of a stock rom, and I can't connect with adb, I need to try to find a TWRP version of a stock 6.0.1 or something really close. I'm pulling off whatever data I can save now just in case I have to wipe this.
If your /system is empty in TWRP it means you haven't mounted system. Under "Mount", make sure "system" is checked.
Sounds like the easiest thing for you would be just to fastboot flash the system.img from the factory image. That'll get you back on track.
It was a really late night but I'm back in business this morning. I used this stock ROM image with TWRP and did a dirty flash.

Use adb and pull it to PC,edit it and push it back easiest way with newer Android versions
i have encountered this on my newer nexus 6. whereas my older nexus 6 seems to be void of these characteristics.(i have started to believe it is because the older one was moved through the API levels smoother....19-20-21-22-23-24-25....as my new one has gone from 18--------to 25. THAT IS TOTAL PROCESS OF ELIMINATION. no idea if thats what it is.) i was able to to push a reboot and temp. flash into twrp from adb/nrt. i dirty flashed my ROM and GApps and seemed to quick fix.

there are a few key issues i have witnessed (as a whole) with a young and older sibling too..... which is not the subject of this issue but i think what i have come to learn can shed light on situational(from time to time) issue that i have to deal with when consistent flashing. the RO/RW is now a part of my routine for the newer phone(cause it will randomly drop its RW for no reason and prevent proper filing for busybox or in my case nethunter libraries)
whew. I was gritting my teeth on reboot tonight after editing build.prop again, but this time it went without a hitch. It sucks how you can find all these great articles about how to do stuff, but invariably I own the one phone where there's a gotcha that one doesn't think to look for
I'll keep an eye out for if/when it'll let persist.root. or the .....persist.dun. Will set =1 without breaking selinux.
