can someone explain the sd card read write please - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im planning on buying one of these today as its a nice cheap tablet for its price, from what ive read you cant use the google play store on 5.0.0 but you can install google apps and use the google login so you can use play services etc. I also gathered that you can use any launcher of your liking can someone explain what this sd card access thing does on 5.0.1 I can live without Gplay store and if needed I can just sideload

not one person care to tell me what it is?

There's already a thread on installing the Google play store. Try looking there, it has nothing to do with SD write access.

The update 5.0.1 does something to read write I don't get what it means

It's a general Android question, not specific to the Fire or Amazon, which is why no one is answering you. Write access to external was disabled in L unless you have root. No root on the Fire means no ExtSD write access. You can use google apps (most of them), but certain apps can't be moved to ExtSD, because of the above.
You'd do better to search XDA, or even better to google the issue as it's generic.

It was a question for the fire as I don't have this problem with my HTC one m8 I don't know much about fire os because its not a proper android version.

Possible Way to Install Google Wallet

Engadget recently posted about a Chrome extension called APK Downloader. It allows you to download the APK for any app on the market, including those that may be blocked by your carrier. My first thought was to try Google Wallet for my T-Mo Nexus S. I was able to get it installed and add the prepaid card. I haven't had a chance to try a purchase yet, though. Let me know if it works for you.
I can't post links yet but just search APK Downloader on Engadget for info on where to download it from
After I got APK Downloader installed in Chrome, I googled "Google Wallet site: play.google.com" and then used the extension to download the APK to my Dropbox so I could quickly access it from my phone.
If anyone has a chance to do this and make a purchase, let me know. I'll give it a shot tomorrow

Just used wallet successfully
I can confirm that the above method worked for me. I was able to install the app, add the prepaid card, and successfully buy something with it.
I have not tested this on a non-rooted phone, although I imagine it could work since you do not need to be rooted to install an APK outside of the Play Store.
One other note for rooted users, there is a persistent banner on the app that says "Unsupported Device. Learn more." This means exactly what it says. It is unsupported so the Google Wallet devs aren't obligated to help you if you are rooted and have problems with the app. This does not mean that the app will not work.
One more update: it looks like after installing the app in this way, it shows up in the "my apps" section of the Play Store, allowing you to update it (providing it's an update that doesn't break it for root users).

It's due to the regional and carrier settings. In the US, I believe its only available for the Sprint Nexus S 4G, and not available for anyone else. This method allows everyone else to update and install google wallet.
Hey,
Thanks for this link - I managed to get the app installed (i9020 bought unbranded, on T-Mobile UK, totally stock unrooted 4.0.4).
However, when I start the app up, I still get the "this app is not supported in your country / on your network" error.
I guess it's because I'm in the UK? Any way to get around this?
Thanks,
Suman

As a Canadian I have yet to find a way to do this short of driving 30mins to the border, hopping on a US network and trying then. Might need to switch sims as well.

Hmm, ok... so does the device permanently have to be on a "supported" network for the Wallet application to load up, or does it just need to get activated first?
I have an old AT&T GoPhone SIM somewhere (in my crypts!) which I could possibly use in the phone, but I don't know if roaming would work...
Will have to give it a go and see what happens!
Try market enabler and spoofing to T-Mobile US, you need root though
Works for me

Hey,
That's cool - do you use it pay for stuff randomly then? Are you using the Google card or a Citi card? Tell me everything!
My device is totally stock and unrooted and currently locked bootloader - do you have a step by step guide for how to get Market Enabler working?
Cheers,
Su

I am the only person outside of the US that Google Wallet shows up in my Play Store?!
I'm in the UK and my Nexus is a completely stock i9020T running 4.0.4. The app doesn't open properly because "my country is not supported" but I can still download from the stock Play Store app :S
anyway to root without wiping on 4.0.4 ics stock?

Onlive (Cloud gaming) for KF HD?

Hi guys I got what I thought was the correct .apk from the net. Emailed it to myself the opened it in my Kindle. It installs but says hardware not supported need at least 7" screen to use, or words to that effect??
Im new to this, am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance :good:
Are you rooted with market installed, I'm guessing not if you needed to email it. Root and install play store. It works fine. Mass effect infiltrator is the same, needed Google play before it would work.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
After rooting your device, it should work. I have tested Onlive before, and it ran everything OK. If you need help rooting search around the Kindle Fire HD Forums to see how.

"This app is compatible with your device" When browsing Play Store?

On all my other Android devices I can install apps from my laptop via the Play website. Can I not do that on my Fire HD even though it tells me I can, or am I missing something?
I am curious as well if there is a way to tweak the kfhd to download more apps from the playstore...like lie to it that ot is some other ics device

Ummmm. No, as far as I know. I don't see how or why this would work until the KF2 gets a real OS on it. Once it down, I do not see why it shouldn't. For now though, I don't know of any ways it's possible. Back to browsing on the device for you! [EDIT] I was wrong! The app is on my device. It was sitting in front of me for an hour or so when I turned it on to do stuff and found the app I pushed on it there! So it does work in theory, it may be slow for you, or some other issue, but it should work it seems!

Yes, this IS possible. I will look into it and post. It's a file you have to tweak, I did it before on tablets I just am completely blanking out since it's been a year or two. You will probably need something like RomToolbox. That's what I bought ages ago and use on every device I hack, just a personal preference but you will need a "build.prop editor".
Here use this app it will switch you device to make it look like a different device and allows you to download more apps.

I use market helper as well. Has limitations but until a full customised rom bypasses this issue it's not a bad 'get round'

[Q] HTC One Play Store Problem

Hey XDA Developers,
I have recently ran into a problem with my HTC One. What happened was I tried to install Freedom, and it wasn't work, because after I read on the internet that it was patched due to the Play store update. Now when I uninstalled Freedom, and tried to go on the play store it gives me a error of "no connection. I tried it on WiFi, LTE same issue. Can someone please let me know what caused this problem and how I can fix it.
Thanks.

I think you deserve it for robbing developers of their money for in app purchases, but I read that uninstalling Freedom without disabling first results in this error. First wipe the data of Play Store and if this doesntt help then you'll need to reflash

How do I wipe data of Play Store ?
Settings->Apps->swipe right to left 2 times->Locate Play store->click->clear data->reboot

Freedom is considered warez and it is against our warez policy to install apps that help against getting apps for free.

[Q] Kindle Fire 11.3.1.0 Rooted?

Hi everyone. New kindle user here. First off I would like to ask if my kindle is fully rooted? In the current version info it says current version 11.3.1.0_user_310084920. I followed the Root Kindle Fire HD "7" 20013 (KFSOWI) 11.3.1.0 tutorial but the kindle never restarted on its own after the rooting process I had to manually turn it off then back on. The kindle is the new 2013 version with no camera and 16GB of memory from Best Buy.
Also, is there anyway I can install the google play market on this? Or, if possible, dualboot a non kindle brand Android OS on this?
Hi Dan. To check for root I would suggest getting the app Esfile explorer and go into the settings and turn "Root Explorer" on. Then see if you can cruise through the root folders /data or /system and actually see files in those folders. If you see files inside those folders you should have root. Also, be sure to install a super su or superuser app to keep apps from Willy nilly acquiring root privileges.
As of this moment I am unaware of anyone getting google play to work properly. Lots of peeps have it installed but working as its supposed to? Mine isn't. I can browse but there is no searching or downloading. As for a non kindle brand os all I can say is that patience is a virtue. The boatloader its still locked down and I'm not aware if anyone has figured out a work around yet. Till then we are all waiting on the ingenuity of the devs. I would not suggest trying anything until we hear that fer sure someone got it. I for one don't want a brick. Cheers.

Not that I have found as of yet. Many people have had good success with other app markets like 1mobile or aptoide. Give em a google. There are lots of the same apps and games on them as are on google play.

ITS HORRIBLE OML. Everything i try do is just so unresponsive and clunky, and the apps for the kindle are quite buggy and will crash on its own. I WANT ANDROID, NOT THIS ;-;

Actually you can. Go http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ here. Copy and paste the address of the app you want to download (like com.example.example) in the bar. Hit generate download link and download the apk file. This only works on free apps and games.

Same here. I was hoping I would be able to install a linux based OS on this device (Gentoo, Arch, etc.) but it appears not yet. I am currently learning C I wonder if there is anyway I could get involved with the developers?
