Brightness Restorer [Full brightness below 6%] - Galaxy S6 Themes and Apps

Hi all S6 users out there,
Everybody knows which awful it is, when you are outside on a sunny day, the battery drops below 6% and you need to finish your work, message or whatever, but the screen goes "black". The brightness goes so dark, that you can see nothing in sunlight. Nothing! I have made an root tool which let you turn the brightness all up again.
I hope I made something useful for our flagship that we love :fingers-crossed:
Aaaaand, as a "bonus" I added a control for the flashlight, which let's you turn the brightness of the LED much brighter than normal (This may reduce the lifetime of the flashlight... MAY.... But I don't think so...).

(PS: I don't know if this should be a DevDB entry, because it's nothing big that I made......)
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed
If you want to put a smile on my face, hit that thanks if I really helped you

Is possible to force very high brightness (super brightness ? (at default is active only on direct sunlight and not on manual).
i read this:
"the Galaxy S6 the Maximum Brightness can go much higher when Automatic Brightness is turned On, so that users can’t permanently park the Manual Brightness slider to very high values, which would run down the battery quickly. High screen Brightness is only needed for High Ambient Light, so turning Automatic Brightness On will not only provide better high ambient light screen visibility but also longer battery running time."

I've tried to force it, but it doesn't work. I have even made a backup of /sys/devives/ when I was on sunlight and then restored in a dark room, but the screen doesn't went bright.
The only thing I noticed is a file that is named "weakness_hbm_comp", when i turn it to "1" the screen goes a bit brighter, but not that bright as it is in sunlight.

I might be crazy but I think the LED torch slider doesn't really seem to do anything on my device (SM-G920I, XtreStoLite).

Thanks for the feedbacks
What mean "do nothing"? It does not increase the bright or it doesn't work at all?
Mine (G920F) increase the bright when I slide to the right... And it becomes very bright!
...
Please, anyone with XtreStoLite and adb installed, run this command:
Code:
adb shell su -c 'find' /sys/devices/ > Output.txt
And paste the Output.txt file here...
I will try to fix it ASAP.

I run xtrestolite, but not anywhere near a computer today. But what i mean is that I turn the flash on the normal way and then use the slider. Nothing happens.

You don't need to turn on the flashlight first. You turn it on in the app sliding to the right. If you turn it on with another app, it will bug. But don't worry, I will fix that.

EDIT2: Yes, I just confirmed that it doesn't work with the xtrestolite ROM. I am trying to fix this issue....

I would need to run a service, that detects that the screen is on and restores the brightness, but I think that would waste a tiny bit of the battery.

I've been waiting for this! Thank you!
great app, great story
it works just great. this is so cool to see how a good idea is investigated and evolved by the community, then a smart programmer whoops it into an application which is then available worldwide, and in this case even for free (thanks for that!)!
lazy people go here for barcode scanner code.
Hello, this is a great idea!
Is it possible if you could auto-disable the app when the light sensor is already reading no light (so it doesn't go into lock mode straight away once about to ring someone at night) and also, why does the screen stay on? That surely will drain battery life. Can't you make it so that the screen turns off when its dark and back on when not?
Thanks
great app. very much needed
This is a really great app, thanks for making it!
The reason the screen stays on is that the light sensor stops reporting light values when the screen is turned off. Maybe this could be worked-around by modifying the Linux kernel but that would surely complicate things..
Anyway, maybe propose this app for inclusion into the next version of MCR?
note: you need to uninstall the version from this forum if you want to install the market version. looks like someone got himself a brandnew set of keys for the market release

my bad
sorry but i don't understand very well the purpose of this apps
by now (without this apps), when i'm using my hero (calling or receiving a call) the screen turns off and i need to use the left phone button if i need the keyboard.
So what does the apps do exactly ?
Thanks
Its locks the screen when you bring the phone against your ear and unlocks it (goes back to normal phone screen) when you move it away.
Only problem I have is that it always locks it in a semi light room, is there a way to change the sensitivty? otherwise its a great app

I agree with the above, It's a great app, however it seems to get enabled in a room with little light, which is a bit annoying. A calibration option would be good?
Also, what is the extra strain on the batter when it's being used i.e. I'm sure it's fine for short phone calls, but when on longer ones does it drain the battery more than when just making a call?
first, the screen should only get locked in a dark room (lol ) when a call is active. if it is triggered by itself then you are running the app in test mode. you do NOT need to start the app manually, it is started when a call is placed or received.
if you want to deactivate it (i.e. for longer calls) just press back during the call. if the screen is not locked at that moment just cover the light sensor with your finger. pressing back disables the app, and after a few seconds the screen will time out as usual and will then be switched off.

Thanks for the advice....
However the app definitely gets activated when using it in semi-light filled spaces. It's not dark just not too light, a slight tweek to only activate it when it's pitch black would be nice!
The problem is with the hardware not the app, sadly HTC put a rubbish sensor in (but at least they put one in at all!)
This means that the sensor reads 0 even in a semi-bright room. You can try things like pointing the sensor (top left, looks like an LED) towards the light source and making sure you shadow isn't covering the sensor.
Not ideal I know but there isn't anything I can do about it!
I am looking to add g-sensor support and perhaps a few other tweaks but that will be version 2.0, got some bugs to iron out first, and a degree to finish lol!
Is there a way to set the brightness of the screen to 0 when the app is active, and set the brightness back to the original setting when inactive?
On the gsm hero yes, because the app works regardless of the autobacklight settings, however on the CDMA version it only works with autobacklight enabled, something I'm trying to get around.
So it might not happen for a while sorry
This is such an useful and awesome app! Its not perfect, but its still a great use of the light sensor!

This application will allow you to adjust your displays sharpness value on the fly. Default is set at 4 but has an adjustment value of 0 to 99. Choose your amount of sharpness with this app.
Vsharp is built on Tasker for the device and on the device. Tasker is not needed to run this application. This app is currently in BETA. More features and adjustments will be added in the future. If you have an issue let me know.

No. You don't need Tasker to use Vsharp. Vsharp is a stand alone application built on tasker using the Tasker app factory.
I just posted the source in the second post to show the work if someone wanted to look at it or modify to their liking
Actually my biggest complaint about the display isn't actually the stock sharpness setting of 4, but the gamma. The gamma on my V10 is off a considerable amount and I'm losing detail in dark scenes. It's definitely not around the more standard gamma value of 2.2
I hoping to tune that up in the future also with this app.

A little confused on what exactly this does? Is this to fix that grainy look when taking pics or something?

It's just like setting the sharpness on your tv. It should not have any effect on taking a picture. If you see some grain effect in a pic its completely unrelated to this mod. What your experiencing is noise in a dark scene which is typical of a small, high pixel count camera sensor.
When taking a picture, try to use the lowest ISO setting possible. In a dark scene the ISO will need to be greater for a properly exposed pic. This is when you will experience the most noise.

I personally set it to 0 as there really isn't any need for sharpening. It just introduces noise in the display.
SWEET! Thanks for this! I was really bummed that the screen on the amazing V10 was not as sharp as my G3. Now its just as sharp. (doesn't seem to affect the second screen, but don't care)
I set it to value 30...anything more and it doesn't seem to do anything. Also, setting to max, 99, upon reboot is goes back to 0.
EDIT: So.....maybe an issue. The sharpening effect dies when i launch some apps, like Gallery. I then go back into the VSharp app and its reads the value and its back to 4..like it was overridden by the system.
Edit: Removed Gallery, Switched to Google Photos app. Doesn't instant kill sharp effect when that app is used.
Sharpness not sticking after screen off.
I definitely am noticing that any sharpness value is not sticking/being re-applied when the screen shuts off/locked or goes to sleep.
I go back into the app, and it reads the current value and it says what i set it to (30), but when i toggle it up or down, I can instantly see the example bars sharpen up, which proves it was off then was re-applied when I toggled the value.
I tried setting the app to ignore battery optimizations in system settings, thinking maybe the OS is killing the app in the background, but that has no effect. I also tried disabling the lock screen entirely, no change.
Any ideas? I do have other things like Xposed, App settings (530 dpi set on certain apps), Gravity Box, and G4 TweakBox installed....but none of them have any display mods enabled.
Any way to make a widget or something i can one-press to toggle the value and re-apply....vs having to use the app every time I want the screen sharp after it goes off.
Edit: Is this app supposed to may a dozen and more "Subsystem/img_tune/" directories in /sys/class/panel/...all inside of each other.
Is there a way to just change the sharpness file and lock it to read only o that it can be overridden...I have tried setting permissions using root explorer to read only...but it still get overwritten at reboot..and eventually by system.
Do i need to set selinux every time i reboot and app runs?

Anyone reading - Please be careful with this. Screen burn is very easy especially with some of the images you have used in your screnshots.
Im aware the image moves (only slightly and totally when you unlock/relock) but that doesnt make a difference when the whole background is the same bright color.(also big bright image = goodbye battery life)
Best to stick with smaller images with a black background OR a tinted image that has had the brightness turned down significantly.
Also quick tut:
Anyone who wants to make your own,

Download APKeditor from the playstore
Open the apk with Apkeditor

Is there any chance whatsoever that a skilled dev would be able to somehow get live wallpapers working on the AOD display?
I'm well aware of screen burn issues - I have a particular wallpapaer that I use throughout the UI, and having the same wallpaper working on the AOD display would really tie the device together, like a good rug.
It's somewhere between a longshot and a pipedream, I know. But it'd be nice if a dev could chime in and say "well, I suppose it's possible if we did this that and the other" or "nah mate, it ain't happenin"

Notification LEDs

Guys, silly question. Do we have any notification LEDs? Can't find it. Please help. Hahaha.
I use this : Always on Edge
Watch some youtube videos on it if you feel its a little complicated or overwhelming but once you get used to it, it's really easy. Works great. Make sure to set it to manual in Huawei's app launch section so that it can run constantly.
Problem with that is that I first have to tap the apps overlay away before I can fingerprint unlock my device, is there a setting so it works at once as before?

You can set double tap. Also you only need to do it when the notification is on.

What about battery life? Does it drains a lot?
And can you set it up edge lighting to repeat every minute or so until you read or dismiss notification?
Sorry for my bad English

My personal experience, there's hardly any drain. I set it to turn off at 12am and turn back on at 7am. Sometimes i see 1% , sometimes i dont even see it in the usage tab. Maybe because i don't have many incoming messages but hye, it's really battery friendly.
Yes, you can set repeat, max 2 minutes. So every too minutes it will remind you.
Check the settings of the apps, there's plenty of control.
Also make sure to turn off automatic power management for that app else the p30 pro will put it to sleep.
I'm not able to use it anyway. I use NoLED fron XDA and it works well.

The repeat thing doesn't work for me, I don't know why. What about you? Do you have that option turned on or off?

It's working fine, make sure in Battery - App launch - turn off manage automatically for the always on edge app.

I did... and it works fine, just repeat thing doesn't work (when I receive notification edge light up, after 60 seconds it should light again but it doesn't).
I don't know why, any suggestions?

Not sure, check your app settings, phone notification access, permission, etc.

NoLed app can be obtained via apkmirror but development for it has be halted. Also to dismiss the notification, you'd need to swipe up. Would have been nice if they added double tap to dismiss or something similar.

I don't know what's wrong. Guess I'll stick with always on. Shame because I really like app!
I worried me AOE, however, no matter what I set it will not show me.
Can someone help me with the settings?
Can enyboy share good LED notification here? NoLed no longer available on XDA or i can't finde it.
Maybe this should help those with issues
Hey JJay666 Thanks for your quick reply.
I can not select the first option under permission.
Where or what do I have to change?

It should bring you straight to the permission menu when you click it. If you think you messed something up, then clear data and cache for AOE. Re-launch the app again and do it step by step. Works here on my end without any issue.
The access notification access, enter settings and search Notification Access, then give permission to AOE.
I cant find this Option to aktivate

Thanks very much! I followed your link on the bug report I created and looks like the module works great. The only issue now seems to be that notifications are still too dim. Any way around that? Thanks again.

Sorry, I should've been clearer. I was referring to Always On Display. When a new notification comes in, it's barely visible. I've tried turning adaptive brightness on and off and manually maxing the brightness, but that seems to do nothing. I've also tried with Force allow AOD in phh settings.

Well, that's because it's just a while loop running in the background.
It was a temporary fix for this issue to find the cause of it.
Here's another, cleaner way to fix brightness done by modifying the lights service. I've not tested it thoroughly and it's still a temporary fix, but here you go.
Works for all roms regardless of Android version, theoretically.

Thank you! It seems to work so far with Android 12 GSI. Now the only problem is ambient display, which is too dim. That may be related to not having an overlay, I'm not sure, though.

Ambient display works fine for me.
For the brightness fix I made, I'm currently testing a better one that doesn't need force linear slider or any brightness slider tweaks. The one I sent has some bugs that can't be solved so I'm testing another approach to fix it entirely. Will make a post in the next few days if I don't find any issues.

I'm on the latest PE+ V413.1
Ambient display isn't bright, but it's visible indoors or at night. A little higher than the lowest brightness level.

Yep, it's just a too dim for me. Ambient display on my previous phone (Moto G) was a lot better.
