Any love for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 N9208 (Duo Sim)? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I recently got my new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Duo Sim (N9208) and I really enjoy using it.
I've rooted it the first day I got the device as I have experience flashing my Note 2 with all the custom roms and etc
However, I realize my model N9208 is so unpopular here!(probably unknown??)
There is literally no custom rom / custom firmware for my N9208 at all
After tripping my Knox counter I won't be able to get OTA Software Updates from Samsung.
No support from Samsung
No support from XDA
Anyone is experiencing same problem? Is there anything we can do about this?
Update:
There's one custom ROM for N9208 now! Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/ioio-rom-release-1-n9208-base-version-t3233375
Thanks to ravian29!

I have one & also think it's great phone. Full stock here though.
I guess the lack of some bands here in the UK make it a little unpopular.
I'm on 3 as a main provider & EE as a back up & have never had a problem with getting 4G.
Enjoy

if you flash stock firmware back (losing root), i think you will be able to get OTAs again.

I installed part of Philippines rom. on mine to get rid of Chinese keyboard stuff...
installed xposed by wanam....... skyhigh kernel....
so there plenty to do and can be done....
only thing is can't figure out to get latest updates without messing with my present setup
actually there is a custom ROM available.... dev looks for donation. but it's not on xda.....

it will mess with your setup, if you download a full system image from sammobile, flash through odin, you should be able to update to the latest version though ota. Do you want to try it out?
After updating to latest version you should be able to flash custom kernel, root//twrp whilst having latest update.

i also have the N9208, and to be sad yes i can't find many custom rom in here, but so far i love the phone and i really loved it!so far i only rooted the phone because i need my previous phone data and the only way to copy is by using titanium backup

I'm using original kernal, and xposed won't work. I'll wait for the official support
I've seen the custom rom. $13 for that is really too much for an update

Flashing the full system image from sammobile will unroot my device am I correct? That means the OTA update is only checking for root, not knox?

Yeah I did.

my understanding is ota update checks for modifications including root. If u unroot it doesnt work but flashing full system image should work for ota. knox being fused/blown should not matter (it doesn't with note 4).

Thank you for your clarification. Does that mean if I flash full system image everything should work, except the knox blown which just saying I do not have warranty for the phone, but I'm still able to use the features of the phone like anyone else?
I'll miss the root function though .
I hate when I do not do anything the RAM usage hit a high 60%

Hi ota/features will work but knox features wont then work. No samsung pay (if u cared about that)

Looks like we have someone took the lead and came out with a custom rom for N9208!
Here

will flashing stock rom also wipe all installed apps or just remove root?

If you've just root your phone, flashing stock just flash stock kernel, unroot your phone.
If you are using a custom Rom with different structure, it will wipe your all

Stock messaging app definitely isn't there. Why bother removing it?
Edit: Yikes a lot of the UI hacks for xposed are likely going to need updating. 314 breaks the hidden apps slide out menu (not the fault of this rom developer, but I'm sure it could be important for some other users planing to upgrade from 402).

Thanks for the feedback. It was not removed. When I tested the rom, I noticed the missing stock messaging app and reported it to dev. However, when you look into the rom's system\priv-app, the conversation.apk is there so it had us both stumped as to why it is not getting flashed.
Hopefully, we'll get the fix from the dev soon.
Thanks again for reporting.

It seems to work great otherwise. I just rolled back to my backup of .402 because I got used to how my UI was setup using GEM and Xperia Xposed modules. Once they get updated (GEM in particular) I'm sure I'll be back.

I see your point and I myself use these modules. However, different people have different preferences. Therefore, some devs refrain from adding mods like Xposed in the rom as users can add themselves after flashing the rom. I know that @dipesh1502 has plans to provide add ons (themes, sound mods etc.) in Aroma in Themes and Apps section. So, I'm sure he can consider your request.

Yes, you have to flash recovery after every 314 rom flash otherwise you'll end up with no recovery and this is speaking from personal experience lol.

I did this once yesterday too when I was rushing. On the plus side nuts recovery installer still works like a charm in 314, so its not the end of the world if a person forgets.

If the apk is still in the folder, cant you just manually install the App?
BTW, IMHO Xposed should be preinstalled.
Oh, and it would be awesome to link Nut's thread in the op when you say "install recovery" it's a hassle to search the thread on the phone
Tried installing the app from system\priv-app folder but it wouldn't have it.

[ROM] OctamodWear - Stock + root + busybox + Reboot2Recovery

CAUTION!! This ROM is mostly made for developers and people interested in developing for Samsung Gear Live. I take no responsabilities for possible damages to your device.
Hi everyone.
I open a new thread here in General because I have not enough posts for posting in Development, and I don't want to spam other threads only for posting there. Moderators can move this if they want.
We have here the first Custom ROM for Samsung Gear Live: OctamodWear
Currently we have very few new features, but this is only the beginning.
Features
- OctamodWear 0.2
- KMV78Y based
- Fully deodexed
- Root
- Busybox
- WearControl, the system management app. Reboot2Recovery is gone; install WearControl from PlayStore to ensure you always have the latest version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=octathorp.wearcontrol
- ES File Explorer and Quick System Info preinstalled
- OctamodWear 0.1
- KMV78X based
- Root
- Busybox
- Reboot2Recovery, it's an app made by me that let you reboot in recovery mode (interesting for use with custom recoveries).
- ES File Explorer and Quick System Info preinstalled (mainly, for developing purposes. I included them because it was a pain to install again with each data-wipe during tests).
Important
- Superuser permissions (root) are enabled by default, without Superuser or similar app. So, whatever app that you install and require root permissions will obtain them. That's due to the fact that there is no Superuser app for Android Wear yet.
- We need unlocked bootloader in order to be able to install the ROM (fastboot oem unlock).
- This system (Android Wear) is still very recent, and there are many things we don't know, despite its similarities with Android.
Work-in-progress...
- Get a better battery consumption.
- Improve performance
- Other things I have not thought about yet
Installation
If you don't have unlocked bootloader, follow this steps:
- Connect using ADB and run "adb reboot bootloader"
- In the bootloader screen, run "fastboot oem unlock". Warning!! This will wipe the device.
- Once you have unlocked the bootloader, the next step is to flash the provided system.img, using "fastboot flash system system_octamodWear.img"
- Done!

I will try to help you if you need it, but please, there are a lot of pages on the web where you can get information about ADB drivers or bootloader unlocking effects, so please, use Google.
Furthermore, I don't have much free time due to work and personal life, so this ROM will not have a very fast development. My main purpose is to give people something they can start working with, and make a great development community.
Enjoy it!
You sir are a genius!
I borked my phone installing TWRP and flashing this ROM was the only way I fix my watch! Thank you!

It is pre rooted as stated above. And yes its very good. Includes a file manager, which is handy....
Dev, presumably we should not install any OTA's?
This is the best day EVER!! Thank you so very much!!
Hey @octathorp I just received an update a couple days ago and did it... I assume the update would not be compatible with this ROM, or can I still install this ROM? Thanks!
Update is KMV78Y by the way.
Hi.
I have not received the update yet, so i don't really know. It should work well, because this is only system.img, but i'm gonna update the base rom as soon as I receive the update.
One thing i forgot to post some days ago... I've made an app that lets you reboot your device into recovery or bootloader, as well as changing CPU governors. It's Reboot2Recovery replacement, and it will be included in next release. Meanwhile, you can get the app from Play Store, searching "WearControl" (sorry i cannot post links yet).
I'll update the OP.

Return to Stock?
What would be the best way to return to stock? My guess would be to flash the system img that Adam Outler posted but want to make sure that I'm correct. I got excited and flashed this without backing up on TWRP first.
Hey is it possible to put the ROM in flashable form for TWRP?! Would make it much easier to install

Awesome man! I know you said in OP that you are very busy and stuff, would be appreciated though if you got the flashable working, then I can flash stuff on the watch like I do on my phone, so easy.... instead of having to go thru ADB!

Battery life should be the same as stock, as there are no power optimizations yet, but you could try WearControl with powersave mode instead.

Can't stay rooted!! Can anyone help?

Hello, everyone. I'm having an issue on my G800H I can't get figured out. I'm no stranger to rooting, having rooted 15-20 of my own devices, but only 3 were Samsungs (two S5 Sports, and a Galaxy Admire). I've never had this problem with any Android, but I can't keep a Touichwiz OS rooted. I've rooted both 5.1.1 firmwares many times over the past month using both Supersu 2.50 and 2.66. I've never kept root for over 24 hrs. I've thought it may be a Knox issue, but even when I uninstall every Knox related app I can find, I still lose root. The Knox apps I'm aware of and uninstall are:
BBCAgent
Bridge
ELMAgent
KLMSAgent
KnoxFolderContainer
KnoxMigrationAgent
KnoxSetupWizardClient
KNOXStore
SecurityLogAgent
SwitchKnoxl
SwitchKnoxll
Maybe I'm missing a couple. I've tried with both the Russian kernel and with the Tardis Ultimate kernel. I've even tried returning to the stock kernel after rooting just because I wanted to try everything. I've also tried rooting with about 4 different versions of the kingroot apk and even tried the PC version last night...none will Root either 5.1.1 firmware... @sasukesama, which version is working for you? I even tried the new beta apk!! I would use CM or BlissPop, but I can't stand my phone to not be fully functional and I can't stand navbars...but I can't stand losing root even more so I may use 1 of the 2. This morning, I even decided that I'd rather have Root than Lollipop, so I returned to 4.4.2 and rooted with SuperSu 2.4.6...a zip I've used many times on many phones without a problem. I lost root within 3 hours. If anyone has heard of this before or knows a solution, please help me out...I'm losing my patience with this phone, and I don't want to give up and sell it....

I was thinking the same thing... So about the past 8 times or so I haven't even set it up. I only install busybox, kernel adiutor, and es file explorer. But I do use an older version of ES... And I do grant it root permissions, I use all the same app versions in my Zmax, too. I'll give it a try without granting root to anything and see what happens.
I'm on CM now btw. Stays rooted and getting used to the navbar.

I dont think gravitybox gives a triple press option, but you could probably do single press, double press and long press. Since they don't work, I turned off the capacitive backlights and fixed the native brightness slider, and now it may be time to try service on this phone.
I do like that the navbar puts the back and recent buttons back where I'm used to on other devices.

I fixed it by switching to CM. It bugs me bad to be defeated by Android though, so I'm sure to go back and try again...just not right now...lol. I'm enjoying CM. Not even noticing the RAM difference after raising the minfree values, but I haven't tried any serious multitasking yet, I don't think.
BTW, @sasukesama, I've read that this phone has the msm8226 and I've also read it has the msm8228. Well, the Zmax has the 8226 and it gets LTE. A friend who uses international phones said that to enable LTE on them, you have to add some 2 letters to the end of the APN. I will ask him about it later when he wakes up and I'll post back unless you already know about this and it didn't work.
Hahaa! Home button wake has as always bugged me about Samsungs . Since I have a navbar, I disabled the home and both capacitive keys. I'm so happy to be having fun with this phone again! Now it won't waste battery turning on in my back pocket.

Yes, I can try, but building PAC for the Nexus 7 was easy because it was a supported device for that source. I haven't even begun to learn what it would take to port it to an unsupported device. I can't even get a kernel to build without errors with a configuration I know is working.... Yet.

All Custom ROMS for Gionee M4

Hello mates,
Just upgraded from my two year old Lenovo P780 to Gionee M4 Marathon. Excellent phone with super FAIL rear camera. It seriously sucks, Even cheap 2500/i rupee phones have better camera than this.
First thing i did was to root the phone, Rooted successfully after installing all the OTA updates available. If some one needs i am attaching the apk below. Just Install it and hit root. Should be done.
Secondly i never did like the amigo UI and carefree launcher. Installed Nova launcher to replace the launcher but i cant find any custom lollipop Roms for this phone.
I have decided to develop a ROM myself. Will be uploaded here in a couple of weeks.
Meanwhile all those with Gionee M4 please do share links and information about any custom ROMS you might locate on internet. Lets make this device a better one.
Cheers !!!!!!!
:good:
Not found any custom roms for this device yet.
My setup and review is exactly same - Crappy camera
Using nova launcher,
Amazing battery backup
Amazing 3G radio connectivity even in remote places where none of my previous Samsung, LG phones worked.
I think its not worth making 5.x rom, better make Marshmallow or none.

Hehe.. LIke minds think alike mate. I am working on this 5.0 based ROM, i need to get rid of Amigo UI. I m not an advanced developer, just trying to modify stock firmware so as to get rid of bloat and crappy UI. I wish some one comes up with an marshmallow based ROM. Search is on. Lets wait !!!

Good luck.
Sorry for the discouragement in the previous post.
I have no problems with stock UI and in fact it performs so smooth compared to the Note 3 and other mainstream phones.
Also, the battery is amazing.
I keep searching... There are some scam sites claiming marshmallow is available for Marathon M4 but it looks like they are simply collecting personal data without having any ROMs.
High Screen Power 5 ROM installation
Hi guys, just wanted to update all, i successfully installed custom 5.1 ROM from our fellow mates at 4PDA.
http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=689083
The ROM installation was successful and everything worked great except however there was no cellular signal. The radio firmware does not support Indian frequencies so i guess i will have to revert this time.
I am now working on customizing this firmware to install Indian version of Modem. If anyone has an idea about this, please share.
Hope to see a stable custom 5.1 for our phone soon.

This one cant move the apps from internal to external SD but if you are interested in installing all apps on external SD card then flash this firmware via flashtools.

Its a firmware for high screen power 5 from Russia. I have used it and everything works well. It uses external SD as primary memory by default. Also u need to replace the modem if using this phone in india. I have it with me, let me know if u need it. :good:
