Adaptive brightness weirdness - Moto G 2014 LTE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is my first Lollipop device after a long time with Kitkat, so I may be missing something obvious, but I just can't wrap my head around Adaptive Brightness.
So when it's set to on it adjusts the brightness based on the light sensor, but I can also use the slider to tweak it, correct? But then sometimes the slider just stops working, moving it doesn't change the brightness at all. Only way to make it work again is to change the lighting significantly (for example I point the phone at a lamp). After the auto-adjustment kicks in I can tweak it with the slider again. Is this a bug, or yet another misguided "feature"? Do I have a hardware problem? I've tried a few sensor apps and everything seems to work fine. On top of the auto adjustment not being as good as Kitkat's, the inconsistency is really bothering me.
EDIT: I am on stock rom. I'm sure that CM12 would solve this problem if it's a Lollipop bug, but I can't be arsed with a custom rom a this time. Looking for a stock based solution, or at least an explanation for this strange behaviour.

Automatic Brightness Malfunction

To those with more experience with Android/HTC phones, what do you think about this issue? It is odd that these phones were shipped with this feature clearly not working (because this feature doesn't work for all of them - right?).
Do you think it is a software issue? A hardware issue? Or both?
And do you think it likely that this feature will ever work? There has been no real information from Google/HTC about this.
I love this phone, but it would be nice if the feature actually worked!
Auto brightness has been tweaked for the N1 in CM... after that tweak, I find it quite good...
I'm using CM 5.0.5.2 and the auto brightness oscillates up and down...

Don't hv this problem... tho it takes a couple of seconds to adjust to the light
Just updated to 5.0.5.3 and no change. So must be a hardware problem?

Wait, so is it that some people had the cycling up & down auto brightness problem - but then using CM fixed it?
Its not that big a deal, I can just use the static brightness - but I'm just curious how many other ppl have this problem, what you think is the cause, and if you think there will ever be a fix.
I also notice that if the brightness is low, I get a red/purple hue - is this related? What causes it?

Lux Auto Brightness MM Issue

Hey guys, now that I'm all caught up and on MM, I've found an issue that's really kind of annoying.
Not sure how many people use Lux Auto Brightness over the default, but I've personally become very used to having it. Now with MM, Lux's notification overlay (which would normally replace the standard brightness slider) shows up as it's own notification rather than as a replacement. Kind of annoying to see 2 brightness sliders especially when the default brightness doesn't work while Lux is enabled.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? I'm assuming this is an MM issue and I do plan on rooting once I get more than a couple minutes to do so, I'm assuming Xposed could fix it although I'm not too experienced with this alternative.
Thanks for the help!
+1
I tried a lot with and without root, unfortunately to no avail. There is a Russian patch for S7 but I do not dare to try on S6.

adaptive brightness in rooms with bad lightning too dim?

anyone noticed this too?
i have to adjust almost everytime the slider because it stays around 15% in dark rooms.. after some time it wents back to this.
its not 100% dark, tv is running and some passive lightning is on..
i have read the machine learning should soon know what i prefer..
never got this problem so hard before..
with google i found the information about the machine learning on adaptive brightness in pie, and 1 of 2 commenters have exactly the same problem with his pixel phone.
is this now a known bug, anyone here has the same problem? is there maybe some good app to fix this? i tried one but thats just the same as disabling adaptive brightness..

Auto brightness to low

Hi i am on gloabal stable rom and i have noticed that the brightness in low light goes to low and iff you change it manually to slightly higher it wont stick and after the phone screen is turned off and then back on the brightness in darker areas is to low again. Most android phones on Pie i have had have adaptive brightness meaning it will adapt to how you set it in each environment but on Miui i think it is different and it is also called auto brightness rather than ambient brightness. I am rooted and i have tried a couple of magisk fixes but nothing changed and in dark area it is still to dark and this is a big annoyance for me and i think it should an easy fix. Maybe someone know where the brightness values are located and can explain how to change this manually so it does not go so low in dark areas.
I have the same problem with 10.3.1 mi 9t pro
I don't have the problem anymore I moved to lineage

Somebody on forum said that you have to train your adaptive brightness. Every time it is too low you bring it up with slider and after few times it should learn your preferences. I didn't yet try this, but I will...
Usually on Android it works like that but on miui its called auto brightness rather than adaptive brightness and didn't work in the same way.
Any news on this? Does it work on MIUI 11 / Android 10 better? I love this phone but this issue is really annoying.
I'm on miui 11 EU it works perfectly.

Question What to know before installing LineageOS

Hello!
The LineageOS thread is getting very long at 12 pages now, I am looking to install it, but since this thread is so long, it is hard to track what is fixed and what is an issue. So please, if some of you with Lineage could reply with some of the current issues it would be very helpful for me and other people.
I will try my best to add them to a list below for other people looking to install Lineage This is what I have gathered so far.
No vibrations after screen/SIM unlock
Fingerprint scanner only works with screen on
Fingerprint scanner flashes the entire display at max brightness
Night light does not work
(Maybe) No data roaming
(Maybe) Bluetooth APTX codec does not work for calls
(Not a bug) Screen refresh rate can only be changed with adb
Quick update: I installed Lineage anyway lol. For me all haptic feedback works, so I barrwd it from the list. Some I could not test. Overall Lineage is sooo much smoother than the stock ROM, Asus removed so many little animations. Also I noticed the sometimes, screen kind of shifts colors rapidly, maybe this is related to auto brightness...
Edit2: its not the auto brightness so my next hypothesis is the refresh rate going to 60 and back to 120 when I touch the screen
Edit3: it seems to be switching between 120/60 to 90 for some reason? I tried manually switching refresh rates with adb and saw a very small difference between 60/120, but with 90Hz, the colors are all over the place, same happened on the stock rom too.
