XT890 Data loss? HELP!!!!! PLease! - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't believe this.
The same crap happened to me on a second XT890. I'm lost for words.
here is what happened.:
Got a phonecall, when I wanted to pick it up the phone would turn off saying not enough power, at 30 % !!???
Ok, so no big deal I thought,...turned it back on, had the same person calling me, everything was fine. Then i noticed the stored mms images would not load inside the conversations. Si turned the phone off and on again, mms images are loading again.
Got another phone call and my personal ringtone, gone, no longer there. Couldn't even switch it back even though the file, supposedly was there. Then I tried to play the file, google play music would not.
Next, all my images are gone, no longer folders of the camera and images and videos. Using quickoffice , that app says, no files on the internal sd card! WTF!?
Turning the phone off an on again, let me see the files on the card again, even let me play an audio file, going in and out of the folder, the files disappeared again.
So long story short. Everything seems to work except my files are gone and quickoffice and fileviewers won't find the files. When i put in an external sd card that works fine on other devices, it won't load the files, images, videos, only maybe 3 of 100!? What the hell.
This is the second time on a different phone but same model this has happened.
I can't afford to loose the images and recordings. are they gone? what has happened? I ran DR Fone recovery, and even that won't find the images i need,
Phone is rooted. And it's driving me nuts. Battery was replaced 6 months ago, everything was fine. Now that.
Please help, need my files, desperately.

What could have caused this? ? What is not working properly? Indexing? Gallery? Quickoffice?

Could be a corruption in the data
" corruption on your internal memory
" corruption on the system partition or dalvik
See if adb can find the files on your internal sdcard. With the command: adb shell ls /storage/sdcard0/[path to video/photo]

Thanks will try.!
In the meantime Root Browser shows the sd card as empty, and last time changed as 8/5/12 which was the build date of the phone.... :-/

Funky, When hooking up for adb and running a command the files and sd card became visible. So while visible I was able to safe all the files to external card. When restarting the phone the internal sd and files disappeared again. I cleared cache and dalvik and media storage, no effect. files remain hidden. Running sd maid it says system files are hidden. using es file explorer running showing hidden files i get a no permission response. same for sd card, says no permission. so something is blocking me. virus? i don't really use wlan or internet, wondering how to get everything working again. files and everything is there, but i have no access.

Still looks like a corruption somewhere. I should just safe all files that u need, backup data and do a full system restore and start over. With full I mean also a internal memory wipe.
Maybe there is a much better option, but I don't know any atm.

Still fiddling with it. Thought I just do a factory reset. Well didn't work.
Somehow before I did the reset the media store app was moved to sd card and a different apk was placed in system / app folder.
After the restart you guessed it, all data was gone as expected. Gallery and ringtones and video, and so on won't show. The media storage apk is in system/app folder, but it won't show under settings/apps/all.....
Not being an expert I think I messed this up by switching out the apks,.../
The one now in the system folder is: version 4.04-1351904261 but I need version 4.04-1344118159
Who can tell me where i can find one?

BusyBox Wiped out Internal SD?

So I had BusyBox on my phone, and deleted it.. Then going through my SD card to delete a folder for something else I noticed a file called BusyBox, so I went to delete it.. Then it started to delete the entire internal SD slot, and from what it looks like formatted the drive.. Now I've lost all my music and any game files that were on there. WTH happened?
Have you tried a reboot
yea, rebooted and everything was gone..
might be usefull to note that I'm running the leaked 2.2 and rooted..
It showed int eh notifications that it was deleting everything, if I tried to intterupt it, it did nothing.. So I forced a restart before it finished and it was all gone..
Can't say i know what to tell you
ooops!! that's what backups are good for. Hopefully you had one.
For the most part I did, I just had to re-dl game data which wasn't a problem looks like the saves were on the phone memory and not the sd.. Had most of my pictures on my comp, and music was easily put back on.. So I didn't really lose to much, just a few pictures.. Just found that odd is all..

[Q] deleted files and apps keep reappearing after reboot

I can't seem to track this one down. Here's what's happening:
I remove an application OR
I delete a file from the internal SDcard OR
I update my settings (e.g., update my gmail password) OR
I reformat my SDCard OR
I do a factory reset
In all cases, the application, file, settings, etc. all re-appear after a reboot the phone. In all other ways the phone works fine.
I've tried using KIES to delete files, through ADB, through volume-up, home, power, etc. and none of these work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

re-appearing files
I have the same problem with my Galxaxy I. The more difficult is the fact that my internal SD card is full. I was not paying attention and the last app could not be inatalled competely. Since then, I cannot free up my interbal SD card. I have tried to delete by several file managers, by using KIS, by USB connection, by formatting my USB card (which - as I understand - is my internal SD), even by deleting all my private data and re-formatting my USB space at the same time.
Nothing works : it seems that my internal SD is somehow locked. My virus scanner does not find any malware on my phone. My phone is non-functional at the moment. I cannot install new apps, my phone will sometimes not re-boot, apps are crashing. . . It is total chaos.
Any clues ?

[Q] Lost most of my internal storage?

Today when trying to free up some space on my HTC One (S-OFF, rooted, latest FW, etc), with the phone connected to the computer I cut and pasted the 'storage' folder into a folder on my computer. After this, most of my internal storage folders were gone, most notably all my Camera pictures. I looked in the folder that was copied to the computer and these folders aren't present. I also tried to do an adb pull from the root directory and the missing files weren't there either.
Looking at my phone storage, it says i have 20GB used by 'Other', which gives me hope that these files are still somewhere on the device. I did a search in a few applications looking for jpg files or any lost files but didn't come up with anything.
Has anyone else encountered this or have any idea if these files are still somewhere on the device? I know it was a stupid thing to do and didn't have a cloud backup set
Could you see the photos before you cut and pasted? What you've described doesn't sound like it should have caused your photos to disappear, but an upgrade would.
On a 4.1 ROM, the sdcard points to /data/media. On a 4.2 and beyond ROM, the sdcard points to /data/media/0. I would have a look in /data/media.

Missing files?

Has anyone experienced missing files on their sdcard or internal? I'm going through my gallery (Quickpic) and noticed an entire folder I had is gone, along with a few others. I also used ES File Explorer to see if they were there, and tried connecting it to my computer via USB, and nothing. Got a few backup apks missing too...
Is there anyway to get these files back?

I've experienced some of my apps just randomly disappearing when I take out my SD card and put it back in then I have to reinstall them. The icons still remain on my home screen but the apps won't run. As far as pictures go, no I've never had anything of the sort happen, not even things such as .txt files.

Before my pictures went missing, an entire folder full of fdroid apps disappeared, I thought I had deleted them by mistake, however, now that an entire folder of pictures is missing, I'm sure my phone is deleting things off of it somehow... Suppose I'll format it all and flash a new rom.

Before you format you could always try one of the numerous sd card file recovery tools out there.
Something like this.

I tried a few from the playstore to no avail. Though they did work, they didn't pull any of the recently missing files, just incredibly old and mostly corrupt files. I'll save this one for next time though (because with computers, there's always a next time x_x ), thank you though.

Files disappear after failed MTP transfer

This is weird and probably not relevant to anyone, just thought I would put it out there.
I backup apps before I update from Play Store, so that I can roll back if there is any problem with a new version. Cleverly, I decided it was time to move the contents (5.54Gb) of the backup folder to my PC so I connected my Z1 (still running KitKat .108, it works flawlessly and I love Xposed) to the computer, accessed the folder on sd card (took a while to read) and selected all files and right clicked on the destination folder to paste. And nothing happened, just nothing. Selected the files again, same result, nothing happened. Went back and selected the folder, tried to paste that, nothing happens. Left it for a minute or two, to see if anything would happen. Nothing. So I disconnected from PC and and rebooted Z1.
And attempted to move the files again, only to find they were all gone. Now the folder was empty, but according to file managers the space is still being used. I have been through the entire sd card, hidden folders and all, can't find the files manually and the space has not been freed up. Tried to use GT Data Recovery app, it finds over 800 files in standard scan mode and over 3000 in full scan mode (there were 1042 files that were lost) but would not recover the files as it is coded to recover to internal memory only (even when recovering from sd card, WTF!) and there is not enough space. Second pass says no files to recover, first pass used 30% of battery.
I have left my Z1 in MTP mode for USB connections, as it has proved to be the least troublesome mode for data transfers (although my experience with every other Android phone has been the exact opposite).
I have no idea why this happened or how to recover the loss.

I don't have much to say about recovering the files but I do have something to share.
First of all, were you trying to move (cut and paste) the files to PC?
Based on my own experience I can guarantee you that it will never work.
Every time I tried to move things from SD Card (connected to Z1) to PC nothing happens at all. Instead, if you want to move things from internal memory it works flawlessly. I don't know what's the problem but I do know that you can't move things from SD Card to PC connected to phone.
So you have 2 option to move your things (assuming that they didn't magically disappear).
First one is to copy and paste (instead of cut) and then delete them from the SD Card.
Second one is to remove your SD Card from your phone and connecting it directly to your PC (using adapter or something) and then move the files.
I'd suggest you to connect the SD Card directly to PC and open it and change windows settings to show hidden files and check if you can see them. If you can't, then all I can say is to go to some shop to check it for you.

Thanks for the reply. You are probably right, for some strange reason I tried to move the files at first, only after that did I try to copy but I fear it was too late. Will have a go at removing the card and seeing what I can do with a PC.
Thanks for the advice.
