[POLL] Has your water-damaged z3c been replaced? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
There are already threads about the "not-100%-water-proofness" of our wonderful z3c. Those are mostly about how disappointed peeps are, but what I would like to know is if the phone got replaced or not. Unfortunately, some weeks ago, even after doing the pressure test, my beloved Z3c died short after taking 2 photos in the pool.
I have two simple questions:
1. In case you have sent in the phone due to water-damage, has it been replaced by Sony?
2. In which country/area do you live (just to see if Sony's policy changes depending on geography)
Thanks!

I got a new one, i put my phone into a pool and i was taking pictures and suddenly it turned off so i put my phone into rice for 3 weeks untill Sony give me a response about... then i had to send my phone to the Sony Factory near my city and less than a week i got a new one I'm from Acapulco, Mexico

You haven't been cliff diving, have you?

November 2014, my phone drown within 20 minutes when I used it for a movie and pictures in a 1,5meter pool (just like the commercial).
When I got back home after my holiday, I contacted Sony and the seller (T-Mobile). After 3 weeks I received a brand new phone with a new invoice and warranty.
Sony solved it completely for me.
(I'm from The Netherlands)

All I got back from Sony in Sweden was: your phone is water damaged, we can't repair it and therefore can't do anything. :crying:

I was taking photos in swimming pool for 10s, went out, dried the phone with a towel. After 5min I had a brick with water on camera.
Sony Portugal replaced it with a new one.

damn.. it seems that all around the globe they replace the phone. I'll keep you posted guys, I loved my z3c, and really don't want to have to buy a new one because of those flaps.

To answer your questions...
1) yes
2)I'm from Malaysia
I have already posted a warning regarding this issue a couple of weeks back in the forums. It is sad to see another person who has encountered the same problem here. The Z3C is great, its just a shame that the waterproofness is not as advertised in the long run. Hope you can get your replacement :good:

yes
Netherlands

i wasn't get new replacement phone but I got new mainboard for my damaged phone

Hi, where did you send your phone in malaysia? mine just happened, just taking a couple photo under the water in pool then suddenly turn off by itself. hope mine also can get a new one.

Replaced a water damaged D5833 in Singapore 15th Jul 2015. Went to Sony Service Centre. From the letter i recevieved this 1 to 1 exchange is limited to ONE time only.

[Q] Internally cracked screen

Hi all just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this happening before. I got the XZ on the day of release and yesterday when I took it off charge i noticed a crack in the LCD. The phone has no physical damage whatsoever, no cracked glass or chip or anything, its in new condition. I'm particularly careful with my phone and do not recall it ever being dropped or misused. Any advice?
Sorry i am unallowed to post a link so i have attached a photo

Sony xperia Z screen broke in my pocket.

Hi I got my xperia z in March and on new years day the phone screen broke in my pocket with a hairline crack and became unusable. I have a very nice phone case to try stop things like that from happening. Anyways I sent my phone in to repair and they told me it would cost R3500 to fix (321.69$). I live in South Africa and when ever I try phone around to get more help they just redirect me to the next person who can not help me. What can I do any help thanks

You can repair it yourself, I think that's the best thing you can do if you don't want to pay that much.
Only downside is that there is a big chance that your phone isn't 'waterproof' anymore after you've fixed it.
Here is a tutorial:

And a place where you can buy parts:

Pretty pricey, but by far not as pricey as getting it repaired.
There are more places you can buy prats like Ebay.
Hello
Hi. I am from Romania and i bought 3 weeks ago a Sony Xperia Z3 from Germany. I have guarantee. Yesterday i saw that all the back glass from my phone is crashed. My phone didn`t fall down on the floor or something like this. I read on network many problems like this and i know that the problem is from my pocket. I don`t know that guarantee will repair this thing. What do you think?

I have seen same issue with T2 ultra in my friend's phone .. The display cracked inside pocket.... I thing that some kind of force applied to it while my frnd handling his bike with the phone inside the pocket....
And here in India it cost around Rs. 10,000 to fix it...

[Q] Sony xperia support(?)

I'm curious what the experiences of XDA users have been with Sony's customer support when it comes to their Xperia devices. I had to send mine in for what I think was a shorted out battery (had it in/around the pool for a few hours, got out and it was fine, but then an hour later it just shut off, refused to stay on unless it was plugged in). They didn't contact me for two weeks, then I called and they just said "yeah you'll probably be good we would have called you if there was a problem". Two days later I got a (what I assume to be) refurb unit in the mail.
I'm actually extremely happy with this. Mainly because A: The device I sent to them was bought second hand off craigslist so I fully expected them to tell me that would void the warranty somehow, B: It was rooted, and C: it had some scuffing on the screen and bezel, and the power button was "mushy". Given that it was probably water damage and technically my fault (it spend most of it's time on the side of the pool getting splashed, but definitely overdid the "30 minute" rule), and they could have easily given me a hard time over any of the three things mentioned, I don't think I can be anything but very pleased with Sony right now.
:good::good::good:
My experiences have been mixed. My x10 was a nightmare to get sorted, first one didn't work out of the box, it took 13 weeks to get a replacement
My arc however was the opposite, screen died but had a new handset in 2 weeks.
Good guy Sony
Just got my 6 month old Z1 replaced.. Initially they offered me a refurbished unit but I refused to accept it and mailed them and got into a conversation with them. I was able to convince them to offer me a New unit and they immediately did! A company that listens!

What's Sony's RMA like?

Hello all,
I had a nexus 5 before this phone and found google very easy to deal with when I needed to RMA. Has anyone RMAed their Z3C yet? Or a Z2 or Z1? Is Sony fairly easy to deal with?
Also, I bought the phone from Clove UK so does that change anything? Thanks.
i have to rma my z3 for the third time now since oct 2014
all 3 faults was because water under the lens
it lasts about 2 weeks till i get a new one from vodafone germany.

I know this is an old topic but I wanted to give my 2 cents anyway (I see you're from the UK, so two pence )
I've had to RMA my device 3 times as well...Sony is not nearly as easy to deal with as Google. Google would just send me a refurb device without question, often a new one. Sony on the other hand takes at least 2 weeks for the turnaround time to repair and is terrible communicating the status to you. This wouldn't be such a big deal if it was one time, but the second time they sent my phone back they had fixed my microsd flap but did nothing about the battery.
After a lot of arguing on the phone trying to explain that it was their fault they made me send it back again. Then, after I received it my camera stopped working in a few days...so here I am haha. Waiting on my 3rd and hopefully final RMA. Sony makes really great phones for the money but man oh man their customer service is the WORST. Complete broken record syndrome with any of the reps I've talked to.

Z3 Compact DEAD after washing it on sink

Ok, so my little cousin (she's 5) came to visit us and I told her I was going to show her something cool, filled the sink (not even 1 meter) put my phone on it with the screen on, took it out, a few secs later the screen froze, battery jumped from 11% to 50%, turned off, now its dead, all the flaps were sealed, I dint put it under the stream.
The fluffed up part is that I bought it through amazon, and imported it (gota love Sony's availability world wide) to Guatemala, I already sent an email through the Sony website, but I wanted to ask you guys, you think they will honor the warranty? Plus, its not even 2 months old, I haven't messed with anything, everything is stock (actually this is my 2nd Z3C after I bought a white one and unlocked the boot-loader and then realized the camera sucked, so I gave it to my brother and bought a black one).
Am I screwed? I haven't even finished paying for it (credit card).
I truly hope so, Im a Diehard sony fan, I even have the z3 tablet C.
Im so mad right now.
edit 1: I dont even use the micro usb port to charge (bought the magnector) and for data I use either NFC or Lenovo's Share it., ugh!
Water damage is not covered by warranty, afaik. The phone has a special indicator in the flap whether it's ever touched by water or not. If yes, sony ignored the warranty. So bad yah.
Btw. I unlocked BL too, after some months i read that it will degrade the cam. But it's just on the sony cam app. I'm using cameraMX and i think it's okay.
Water Damage is covered by warranty
If you left the flap open while underwater, its your fault
If the flaps were closed (where they were in your case), it may be a leak and will be replaced under warranty if found to not be your fault
If it is only 2 months old it should still have a Sony Warranty
My phone was water damaged, so i rung up Sony, booked a repair, and got the motherboard replaced
