What he is saying is that you can do a lot of customization with a rooted phone and Xposed without flashing a custom ROM. The downside is that you are still stuck with a lot of bloat in the stock apps. There are ways to remove them but doesn't always work and can cause other problems. And there are limits to Xposed. The upside is it is less risky to go the Xposed/root/stock route.
I have tried numerous custom ROM's and they all have pros and cons. I have been on AOSP with Monster Kernel and Slim_zero_gapps_beta for a while now and am very pleased with it. Minimal OS is also quite good, but I have a custom app that I use and it didn't work with Minimal. If not for that it would be my ROM of choice.
In spite of what some people will tell you, there is no "perfect" ROM that meets all needs for all users. I suggest you try a couple and see what works for you. However, be sure you have read all you can about flashing ROM's and when you think you understand it all, read it again. Always do a nanroid backup of your current working config before flashing. Store all backups and files you need to flash on your external SD-Card. Don't switch from one ROM to another without doing a full wipe. Use TWRP 2.8.x for your recovery.
Once again be sure you have a good understanding of the steps you need to follow before flashing any ROM. I see far too many sad pleas for help from users who jumped in too quickly and have bricked their devices. Do the research before you proceed. Don't expect to led by the hand but don't be afraid to ask questions if something is not clear. Good luck my friend.

I have been using AOSP for a while, and I'm happy with it (cuz it has awesome battery backup). However, AOSP's latest build now has battery drain issue, and I have to find another ROM that is bug-free and has good battery backup.
Can anyone suggest some stable ROMs which last about 5h sot? Thanks in advance!

I am using minimal os and it is daily drive material, no bugs and smooth. Now as far the battery goes I get about 4 hours SoT with mainly browsing and gaming using emulators for about 1 hour. Then again it depends on your usuage. As I found the key is to keep the brightness as low as possible.

best custom rom
BlissPop is best custom rom with too many features

I'm using Minimal OS, works like a charm. Great battery and performance, also, no bugs so far.

ROMS I've seperated into category's (NOTE THIS IS IN MY OPINION)
Performance : Radium Redefined (5.0.2)bundled with Stellar Kernel (It aslo has amazing battery backup but i like it for its perfomance)
Battery : Fusion (5.1.1) with Halogen Kernel
Balanced : Minimal OS with Decipher Kernel
Overall : Titan Prime Anorexic bundled with Stellar Kernel (find this on the titan prime rom website, link in the TP thread)
Note except Minimal OS, all other ROM's ive mentioned, I've used Abhisheks battery guide (in general section of forum)

For daily use, is best stock rom with xposed or minimal os?
I want no problems... I want only personalize my smartphone and use root with apps likes greenify for example... Thanks you so much

If you're going for a daily driver then I'd suggest you use stock+stellar kernel with xposed (Stellar Kernel+Amplify+PowerNap=Epicness). Minimal OS is good and all with balanced performance with decipher kernel but I'd still go with the stock.

Also try a stock based custom rom called Radium Redefined with Stellar Kernel (You won't need to flash xposed with this cause the battery backup is amazing, close to 6 hrs of screen on time)

It depends on the piece of string I believe.
I run stock with DoomKernal & a few Xposed Modules. Or Cyanogenmod / AOKP. But with anything but stock you run the risk of something not working correctly. It depends on the string like I said.

Playing around with voltages etc. in the Kernel, screen brightness, unused services results in pretty good battery times. For best battery results it's best to stay stock. Cyanogen and AOKP are not great on battery at the moment (from what i've read)

Stock 5.1.1 is the best right now. Latest version and very stable. Great battery life too. I used to flash a lot of custom ROMs, but now stock with root seems good enough
I downgraded from 5.1.2 to 4.4.4 108 and am having a lot of fun
The phome is more responsive
More stable
Better battery life
Better camera quality
Less bugs
More mods and tweaks
The only cons is its not smooth like android lollipop
If u didnt use lollipop before, u wont notice the little stutter on kitkat
I use 5.0 stock rom. Its smooth everything is fine. But camera is not much clear and bettery life is around 4 to 5 hours.. What is yous bettery life??

All Custom Firmwares a.k.a. Custom ROMs have their PROs and CONs, I suggest you head over to the Xperia Z1 Original Android Development or the Xperia Z1 Android Development sections and read about the different Firmwares/ROMs our Devs have.
The XDA Community thrives on the diversity of Firmwares/ROMs for our devices. Your Device. Your Choice. Keep reading and see what you want.

Suggest Rom

I want...
1) battery life.
2)Smoothness
3)don't have big bugs specially with calling,Wi-Fi,3G etc.
Thanks
1. Wrong place to post this.
2. ROM preference is kind of a personal thing. Try them it to find one that best suits you.
You could go With Tesla for speed, battery life is around 11hrs with greenify and fusion 6.0 for battery life (1day with greenify) , performance is good no lag. .. I use the former as primary rom and latter as secondary because of it's battery life , as I give priority to performance than battery life... I've used cm 12.1, pacman, prudroid, blisspop, paranoid, resurrection remix, ... And I found the above said 2 roms the best, personal choice. .
having tried Cm12.1 , stock 5.0.2 , titan , slim LP and loads of others - I'm currently using nexus experience rom all i can say, its the only custom rom i've kept for more than 2days -- NOT saying others are no good-- just I personally like this one.
https://nxrom.us/motog2.html
most stable rom
CM 12.1 snapshot version
https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=titan&type=snapshot
Thanks everyone for your help....

I strongly recommentd, Blisspop. BlissPop-v4.0.3-titan-OFFICIAL-20151007-0743
Blisspop has features but bad ram management.. ..
Fusion, Exodus or crDroid
I'm using blisspop with spirit kernel.
Its giving 4 hrs of SOT. Any other ROM which can give more SOT? I'm a heavy user so I need to charge it twice.. Which ROM is best for SOT? Fusion or nexus experience or any else?

LOST in a sea of roms

Hi there.
I been spending several hours reading user's opinions about several roms for the xsp.
I saw plenty of unofficial roms based on cyanogenmod official roms. And the question that pops into my mind it's.
Why so many mods? People doesn't like the official releases?
Also I been reading that 5.1 roms are laggy, and in a custom rom i'm looking for stability and performance.
Maybe I should go for and official cyanogenmod 11 rom?
Maybe for a stock based rom?
What do you think?
Hello.
Yes, there is a lot of rom for SP. But just a few work as it supposed to.
Lollipop it is in his nightly stage, though is very stable and the most recent apps, you will be able to use.
There is too a recent patch for security, we should take in consideration, Im using myself as a daily driver without problems, nevertheless still have some minor bugs, but nothing that cant make you wish to throw your SP on wall
If you want to test and see how looks like, I would recommend Sabermod Unofficial Or CM 12.1 Official Nightly
cm12.1+ addons imo cuz it's my second full month on it and it never failed me ....no problems for me and great performance

battery is good too yep
Go for CyanogenMod 12.1 nightlies with addons...Its Best for lollipop based ROMs.
You can try unofficial CM13 also if you can use the phone without camera. Battery life and performance of CM13 is far better than cm 12.1.
To be honest, is a matter of usage and preference. For me it was working fine but my phone got way too hot for my taste, but the deal breaker was that no matter what lolipop ROM I used facebook HD playback was choppy as hell. I know that it sounds silly but that's something that I need. None of these issues exist on stock, of course (C5306 - 1.205)
I think the Sabermod unofficial takes the lead on cm12.1 ... Great battery and butter smooth. I think it' s the for performance and battery !
I use official CM11 slimmed by me, without gapps, disabled LogCat, little modified build.prop + WilliamsPLUS and I'm really happy ; p
which 5.1 rom has fewer lag and more batterylife?
@beodo
A sea of roms but many of them are discontinued or not updated, so first check that one.
As fellow members said CyanogenMod 12.1 Unofficial SaberMod with add ons is the best right now for me as well, very fast, really fluid, stable and good battery life, in is some parts is even better than the latest official stock rom.
I m using this rom for over a month and i love it.
If you need even better battery life you could use Helium kernel (just dirty flash at recovery) and enable conservative governor, if you would like to take it further you can also install xposed framework which unlocks you much more features like power saving better experience, extra customization and more.
All of the above are continuously updated and supported by our great developers too :good:

Which is the smoothest and stable ROM for Moto G 2014? BEST ROM?

So I've used a lot of ROMS. A LOT. But I keep jumping into different ROMS, because I can't agree with a particular one for a long time. Now I'm just tired. I want a good daily driver. I'm looking for the best stability, battery backup (really important), smoothness and performance (gaming too I guess) in a ROM. Preferably Android 6.0.x too. So suggest a few ROMS which match the above criterion please?
Thank you in advance!
Personally IMO Any LP rom is better than MM (Try Minimal Os)
But for MM then try cm 13 or cyanpop.
AOSP 6.0.1 roms are better than cm 13 (just by a bit) so go for AOSP-CAF for best performance and battery in aosp.

I've been using it for a couple of days but i don't get the proper feel from it. I'm currently using MinimalOs and it's pretty smooth. Would you recommend a custom kernel (for battery and smoothness) or is the default one the best? I've so far experienced no problems apart from a small battery drain which can be ignored.. But.. How can I make it better?

For minimal OS : for performance go for halogen r 14 , for battery and stability go for decipher kernel (works like a charm and is recommended) personal build (cm12 10122015 build).
Stock kernel works fine too. And for the battery drain just install xposed and use amplify and powernap and block wakelocks.
Thanks a lot.

What works for me...
I've been using Nexus Experience 6.0 for a couple of months and love it. I'm also using Halogen kernel without any modifications. With Amplify and Greenify modules from Xposed, battery life is great, drain of 1 or 2 percent overnight. With Nexus Experience everything works, not to mention the 'Gestures' setting is just so freakin' awesome!

Here you go....http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/rom-nexus-experience-t3143528 It's listed as 5.1 but it's actually been updated to 6.1.

Do you mind sending me the link of that particular build of the kernel? I can't find it...
Do you feel no lag?

I've been using Nexus Experience 6.0 for a couple of months and love it. I'm also using Halogen kernel without any modifications. With Amplify and Greenify modules from Xposed, battery life is great, drain of 1 or 2 percent overnight. With Nexus Experience everything works, not to mention the 'Gestures' setting is just so freakin' awesome!

I was using this ROM for quite some time. But I had to change it because it was lagging too much and also because of the bad autocorrect on the keyboard (haha I know, I'm dumb XD).. But the lag was there though. And I was using Halogen kernel as well.. Do you mind sharing your kernel settings or do you know of any fix for this..
P.S agressive type autocorrect fix much appreciated too! XD
Thanks!

As far as the kernel, I just use the stock settings, haven't tweaked it at all. I don't really compose long emails or texts so the keyboard issue hasn't been noticed. Maybe try another keyboard app? Both the ROM and kernel were updated less than a week ago so you might want to give them a try again. Good luck!
