How to enable GPS in Teclast air 64 dual boot - Teclast X98 Air 3G

Hi,
Hope this is not a dumb question but how do I enable GPS in new Teclast x98 air 64 running Win 10 ? I am in Android and , unlike my old Galaxy P1000, there seems to be no option to turn on GPS. I can't find any reference to GPS in settings or anywhere. Specs say it comes with GPS . Any recommendations for good GPS using satellites rather than phone to save costs once I work this out?
Thanks so much,
Kerry

I have exactly the same problem, do you solve it?
In the Device Manager (Windows 10) there is sensor: Broadcom 4752 Geolocation GNSS sensor and Kionix Sensor Fusion device.Les both work, I think there's a good gps, but it is inactive?
I also installed a compass app and it does not work: no compass sensor Was detected!

GPS enable problem in Teclast Air 64
Hi,
As far as I can tell , GPS comes on automatically when you start a GPS program. I have not tried it in Win 10 but it does appear to work in Android using Sygic or Beonroad. I have been sick and have not been out to test it much so haven't tweaked it yet.
The one time I used Sygic, the screen showed the route but there were no voice instructions so you'd better have a back seat driver who can navigate better than my 82 year old, half blind Dad! Otherwise, pretty useless. But , as I said , I just haven't been able to work it all out yet .
If I get more info or find a better program for GPS, I will let you know. Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Kerry

Hi,
It appears GPS enables automatically when you turn on the navigation program. There is no button or icon that I can find that enables it. I am still having problems with it but will post again when I sort them out.

Hi, I am afraid I don;t know what this revision Z3735F means. Is it an update than can be downloaded?
So far, I am having little success with any GPS apps. I have tried several free ones for android such as Map, Scout, Go, Navigator and Sygic. Sygic was the only one that was even a bit successful but, sometimes it worked and sometimes not.
Some don't recognize streets when typed in and most won't give voice direction or only start voice direction when you are nearly at your destination!
Others start and then act like they are in sleep mode with the screen going black even though I have set the sleep mode to only come on after 30 minutes.
Most are not intuitive. I can't find simple things like add to Favourites very easily or other simple requests. Some of them are not even clear on adding a start and finish point which is surely the whole point of a GPS Sat Nav app!
I live in a very densely treed area but even in very clear areas ,they often do not pick up GPS satellites. I have downloaded all current maps for Australia where I live. I am going to try GPS Essentials said to improve GPS capabilities. I am not hopeful.
Anyone know of any good paid ones that my be better?

No! I have the C5J8 model ... GPS works fine when booted to Windows 10, in fact seems to acquire position very quickly compared to what I'm used to with the many Android devices I use (I'm a passionate user of Osmand+ for navigation). So the GPS hardware is there, you can check it for yourself. In windows go to " Settings - Devices - Connected devices - Device manager " and expand the " Sensors " subheading, and in mine I see:-
Broadcom GNSS 4752 Geolocation Sensor
So it seems we simply need a way for the Adroid 5.0 operating system to connect with it. Sadly, I've NOT been able to root the android system yet to do "dmesg" type stuff yet.
I reckon I'll start a thread to Root the X98 Air 3G C5J8 model, or does someomne here already know how to do it?

Thanks! I will try your suggestions.

Thanks so much. Interesting information. I will research Osmand plus. I am much happier with the Win 10 part of the Teclast Air 64 so , if I can get GPS on that, I may have better results. I will Google what you have said and try checking for GPS hardware as you suggested .
Thank you again.

Hi Everyone,
You could try GPS Essentials or GPS Status but I doubt that will solve your problem. It will tell you what satellites are available and may have other info that's useful.
I drove around for some hours the other night testing as many free GPS apps as possible . In Android I tred Osmand free, Navmii, Offline Maps,Navfree, Sygic, 2 called Navigator, Maps, Go and Scout.
Most picked up where I was but the menus were so hard to use that I had difficulty even finding where to type in the destination. Some didn't know my town though they recognized my city about 10 kilometers away. In others I could get around this by pinpointing on the map where I wanted to go in my town, but this was not very convenient and it didn't always work.Several didn't give voice commands , others gave crazy voice directions such as repeatedly saying "go left" . Some couldn't navigate me even a few kilometers.
But mostly it was the unintuitive interface. Scout and Sygic seemed the most hopeful but being able to quickly put in a home address and a destination was almost impossible and the same with saving Favorites. Keep in mind I am an older person not up with new tech in Android (or anything new for that matter) but I have a Galaxy P1000 which I still use and I have had it for some time. The GPS in the old Galaxy works,is easy to use, but is woefully slow in picking up a signal especially with cloudy weather,
I have been a Windows user since DOS floppy disk so thought I would try the Win GPS apps . I tried Sygic Beta and PC Navigator free. Again, I found the simplest most basic things such as putting in Starting Point and Destination frustratingly hard , plus much of the above problems that I had with Android.
Also , I doubt you would get very far before running out of battery even using a car charger. I find that, even using the Teclast at home plugged in and charging, it still chews up battery. I am using DU battery saver which has helped . I now need to find a way to stop apps running in the background to see if this helps. But I wouldn't go anywhere with out an Xiaomi large capacity charger bank! I use the Xiaomi 10000mAh Mobile Power.
So all told I am pretty disappointed with the Teclast despite it having some great features and potential. I like the large size but, I am still favoring my smaller Onda tablet and wishing it had a good GPS.
The upshot of all this is I went and bought a cheap Tomtom car navigator and it is easy to use and works great.
But I am still open to any suggestions. Maybe the paid Osmand plus may work better, but at this stage I am tired of trying to get any GPS on this tablet to work.
Hope you guys who may be more experienced using new technology have better success.
Thanks,
Kerry

Hi,
I bought few weeks ago the same model from Gearbest. And I have the same problem. Where did you find GPS sensor in Android settings? In W10 i can see it, but in A5.0 I don't.

Same problem here. I got my X98 Dual yesterday.. installed mirek 6.1 ... and no GPS.

anyone who has a working gps either win10 or android 5?
Mine C5J8 too, Win10 has an installed driver GNSS 4752 but I don t know how it can be used, on Android I dont have GPS icon to switch on...?!

How good is Kaiser GPS?

I believe Kaiser rely on the Qualcomm chip for GPS. How is the performance. People say good thing about the SIRF III chip. How is the Kaiser GPS compare to the SIRF III? Anyone know?
welll in most cases built in gps arnt as reliable as the actuall thing... they are off sometimes
I guess it may depend on what you want/need to do with GPS.
If I turn it on and run Google Maps, it shows me right in the middle of my house, and that's where I am. If I move from one end of my house to another, I again appear in the right place.
To use GPS do we require to have gprs or 3g data activated.
Or is like integrated FM Radion which doesnt require data connection.
No -- there is a GPS receiver built into the unit that sends NMEA 0183 data over a serial port. You'll probably need map software; any software that works with WM6 and a Bluetooth GPS should do the job (e.g. TomTom 6).
I use Googlemaps and TOMTOM 6 with no problem.
I need to mention that I am a current HTC Trinity owner, and if IF if IF if IF the Kaiser has the same A-GPS chip found in the trinity, then this is what we should expect (from my experience with the Trinity)
1- Initial fix time can take long (sometimes it takes 2 minutes, sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 10 minutes, and sometimes IT NEVER gets a fix and no GPS singal can be found)
2- Once the GPS get a fix, then it works perfectly and flawlessly.
So I only hope that the Kaiser will solve the initial fix problem.
Has it now "normal" GPS or the mobile Version AGPS
I guess you could upgrade your radio to 1.40+ and try again. They said there's a big improvement to GPS fix.
Talking about TTFF, if you are moving, or inside a building, I think it will take longer than usual to get a fix. I live in a really urban area, but once I stand still in an open area, I usually got fix in 2-3 minutes, without exception.
Someone did a test in the Trinity forum - the accuracy of the qualcomm chip is even better than that of the sirf-iii.
However, a major problem though is the lack of a software assisted gps problem that can improve the ttff time. (Though qualcomm said there's one, but until now it's still vapourware.)

I also have the Trinity and can back up the above comments. I have a Sirf III device as well and apart from the Time To First Fix being quicker there is no noticeable difference between the two - both very accurate and don't lose their fixes.

Really interesting. The author of this article think that the Kaiser will have a Sirf-III. Now I think for the first time, we got a device with 2 GPS, a dedicated Sirf-III GPS chip together with a Qualcom integrated GPS.
I would imagine it will greatly increase the accuracy as well as the TTFF
Oh, wait, HTC might disable the Qualcom GPS, and just use the Sirf-III. See what they did to Hermes
Does anyone know how to start the gPS on the Kaiser - I bought one ...but don`t know how to start !

Please report your GPS experience

For the lucky people who got their Kaisers already, would you please report your experience regarding the built-in GPS please specially the initial cold fix as it was very slow with the Trinity P3600
TomTom 6.030 does not work, instead you have to install the TT version 6.0.32 from the accompanying CD. The first fix (after QuickGPS ran) was almost instaneaous and a lot faster than on the Athena.
Agreed; and, at least in Google Maps, the position is more accurate than the Ameo.

For example: the phone
the telephone is load completely (100% full batterie) and when you use 1 hour of gps
how much battery it remains?
Thanks.

Am running 6.030 now!
Don't ask me how or why but it's working fine.
Joe
I now verified that on TT6.030 you have to use "Other NMEA GPS/4800Bd/Com 4: and on TT6.032 you can stay with "Internal GPS"
In any case, TT6.032 with "Internal GPS" the fix is aqcuired a lot faster than on TT6.030
TT6.032 is supplied with the TyTNN II on the accompanying CDRom
(TT6.032 incidentally does not allow itself to be installed on any other device, the installer prevents that, but after installation on the TyTN II, the directory can be copied to for instance the x7500 to replace the old installation there, and it will work fine. My first impression is that also on the x7500 with TT6.032 the fix is faster, but I still need to run the "dinner table test" )
its working fine now after i installed the version on the cd. thanks. my MapKing chinese version also working, GREAT!
When you use tt6.32 from the CD, can you use any tt6 map? or is it locked to 1 map only?
Can you have multiple maps with the tt6.32 from the CD?
Can you confirm that the version supplied with TyTn II i.e., TomTom 6.0.32, is a FULL version ? Licences? or is it a taster and you have to pay to register it as a full version? If it is full, does it come with Great Britain Maps (full) or you have to download them? In case of download, is it free?
Thanks
The CD version of TT 6.032 that comes with the Kaiser is as full as an update one would dowload from TomTom. There is no code. There are no maps either. One can download one area map (f.i. London) for free, but no country or continent maps are added. Those will have to be purchased separately.
If you install it on top of an already installed and registered TT6.0x0, it will not ask for a new code. Any old registration will remain valid.
On another note, sitting side by side in my car, I noticed that the x7500's GPS reception was a lot more consistent then the TyTNN II's. The TyTN II may acquire its fix a lot faster, but on the whole, the x7500's reception is better (even though my "dinner table test" would lead to believe otherwise) and more consistent.
While my x7500 had a permanent reception of 9-10 satellites (albeit with shorter bars) the TyTN II was jumping up and down between 3 and 7 satellites.
I currently use my Hermes in an 'in car' holder, with a bluetooth GPS reciever face up in the window. One thing that I would like to know, is that if I was to get a Kaiser and put it into my car holder, surely the orientation of the GPS reciever inside the Kaiser would be 'end on' to the sky, and the satelites.
This must affect performance?
I got mine this morning. Took me quite a while to get GPS working -- had to do a hard reset. It's now working with Route 66, which I used to use on my Wizard.
GPS data seems a bit bursty -- when I was viewing it with GPSViewer, I'd get a bunch of NMEA strings, then nothing for several seconds, then another burst.
Hum..seems to be same issue than Paul from Modaco :
"The GPS bug seems to occur with some applications whereby the GPS 'data stream' will pause for a few seconds at a time, which makes some apps think the GPS has gone away (e.g. Google Maps) and other apps just update in sudden jumps rather than smoothly." ?
Seems that HTC did not fix it in the final ROM.
Do you know if HTC is aware of this issue and plan to fix it ?
Thanks
don't know if i've encountered the bug but here's my situation: i cannot get the GPS Hardware Port (or COM) settings to "stick" after changing them. for example i can change GPS Program Port and it will stick but changing the Hardware Port and clicking OK has no impact. if i reopen the GPS settings, the Hardware Port shows "(NONE)". and this is after 4 hard resets. funny thing is that is worked when i initially set up my device, then all of a sudden, TT6 was reporting "No GPS Device"... it may be time to pack it up and return it for a replacement... any suggestions would be appreciated.
Update: Followed Paul's (on Modaco) suggestion to leave the default settings and now GPS is working.
Which Navigation programs work in landscape mode???
for those of you with a Tytn II, are you able to modify the GPS Hardware COM port from one setting to another? the fact that mine says "(NONE)" is leading me to believe i have a hardware defective unit. thanks.
Kaiser and mapking 2007
ive tried mapking 07 on kaiser and it doesnt work. It juz cannot pinpoint the location that I am at. I wonder if its the software problem??
I installed TOM-TOM from the HTC CD and it has worked with out problems, even installed US MAPS from another Tom-Tom CD I have from the original version. Only problem so far, once I was using it and received an SMS message and it locked up. Had to restart. Receiving email is fine but the SMS message freaked it out.

TD's GPS thread

Hi all,
Could you please, be kind and post you experience with TD's GPS...
Since I got my TD(4 days) I have not been able to test the GPS at all
I have loaded some soft that could help me here. ( I travel a lot between Korea and Japan). Cannot really use the phone here, but WIFI works great and I thought I would give the GPS a test run.....no luck YET..
TD's own: QuickGPS has downloaded(through WIFI) all the info and it is up to date......But how do I set up the GPS itself???
Phone did not come with preloaded GPS software so,I have loaded following soft on itnone of them would recognize the gps)
i.e. " no GPS found."
1.Google Navigator 3.4
2.GPSvp (http://gpsvp.com)
3.Effica GPS Utilities (http://www.efficasoft.com/gpsutilities/index_wm_ppc.html)
I would really like to test out the GPS here first.I am returning to EU (home) in october or november and I would like to use it there as well.
sorry for the bump
I tried the search...not just this forum but all of XDA.....I cannot seem to find one successful step-by step activation as of yet???
Nobody has internal GPS running on their TD??
Anyone?
Runs perfect and is good quality.
Make sure you let windows manage gps (in external GPS settings):
programport COM4
hardwareport none
and in last tap check the checkbox.
Programs find gps at Com4 at 19xxx baud.

Don't you have a problem with the static navigation? This behavior "drives"
me nearly crazy, because beside of that, the GPS in TD is superb...
On mine, no programs can access the GPS and the programs will lock and crash the phone when it tries to connect to GPS.
The onlt one that does not lock the phone is TomTom, but it wont connect to GPS.
I've tried combinations of the recommended port stttings, but I still get no GPS.
I have not activated A-GPS, so I don't know if the phone came with this already activated - how would I check this?
My GPS is a pain in the arse, From what i have read its because of the static navigation. So far it says i live in house number 20 when I live in house number 16 and when i'm on route I'm yet to hear a " You have arrived at your destination" because its accuracy is off about 50 metres.
Hopefully there will be a fix for this very soon.
can someone get me up to speed a bit? what is the 'static navigation' that i keep hearing about..
admittedly, i find sometimes the gps is slightly less accurate at placing my exact location compared to my old Trinity, but otherwise its worked great for me..

Hey, have you got installed TomTom 7? I'm running TT7 and when I select "internal GPS receiver" it connects perfect. I know this doesn't exist in TT6, but I can also get my GPS running in TT7 if I set it to use a BT receiver on COM4 at 57600 baud. (Assuming you didn't mess around with the standard GPS settings, like HTC meant them to be )
Google maps is using the selection of "use windows settings".

hi guys
Same problem here. AGPS is disabled. I have tried Garmin,TomTom, iGo and google. 95% of the time it can not lock onto the sats. Once in a while it will work fine. Last night it picked up the sats in my bedroom on the second story and this morning outside in clear sky it found 4 sats but with very low signal and could not give me my cordinates, gave up after 15 min.
I have tried GPS tools and even that won't lock onto the sats. Data is upto date with quick gps.
So is it the hardware problem or has it to do something with radio? It can't be faulty TD because there are a lots of people with the same problem, and why lots of other users have no problems accessing the sats?
How is your gps working?
hi
great going sofar...thanks to all. We still have no real answers.
Let's keep this one going.
Looks like GPS is an issue with TD.
( Other than GPS...I am loving this sweet phone )
Now I am trying different roms to see if it is related to that. Will let you guys know if find anything.
Strange, on all ROMS my GPS reciever just works perfect.
Almost the best piece of hardware on the device
As I mentioned in Another topic, I use the GPS for TrackMe, at the same time I am navigation via Igo, and at the same time I showoff Google Maps with GPS support.
It functions very well!
Did you get the GPS-Fix downloads? It speeds up a lot.
Yes got the gps fix downloads but still no go. Still have not lost the hope. I hope its not some hardware problem.
I was fed up messing with mine, so I did a hard reset, and its sorted ...... for now!
same as Paulus
I did a hard reset....and it works perfect. No other adjustments done.
Tried the TomTom, Tracky Pro, GPS VP, and the HTC GPS Tool....all work no problem...outside I get a fix within a minute sometimes seconds.
I think one of the quirks that the TD's GPS has is that, when it's in Acquiring Satellites mode it doesn't seem to spit out any sort of status. The first time I noticed that I thought my internal GPS wasn't working, since with my external Holux unit I can see the satellites which the Holux was trying to lock onto.
Whereas with the TD's built in GPS it just snaps from nothing to.. acquired. So it's hard to see wheter it hasn't gotten a signal because it's in a poor area of reception or not. Usually I'll just try and stay still till I can get a lock.

I had the same experience when I used Wayfinder on my X1. After I closed the program it seemed like it continued to work and the phone got really hot. I also noticed that the battery was drained really fast. I had to reset my phone to get it into normal temparature. I suspected also that the gps was running.
I havn't had any trouble using the Google maps tough. I will try another program soon (TomTom) and remove Wayfinder wich is only a trial anyway.

There is this new gps mapping software available on Xperia. I have tried on it and it really works. The name is "Sportypal" and is free of charge.
Use the navigation panel. It shows you speed and stuff. No map though.
NoniGPS Plot... works a treat and shows great detail as to GPS data... http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
There are some articles on GPS regarding Xperia X1

X98 Air 3G ID: C5J8 not working GPS

Hi!
Do you have any idea what can be done, to be a working GPS - Broadcom GNSS BCM4752 (or 47521) - in my tablet?
I tried several driver from several manufacturer (Lenovo, Toshiba), I tried everything I found on the google in the past days, that's why I wanted to try the 2.02 BIOS - which broke my tablet for a while -, but there is no any result!
In Windows 10 Home, in Device Manager I see that the GNSS 4752 is installed as a sensor and as a systemdevice, but in Sensor Diagnostic Tool it cant be initialized not either outdoor. The result is as usual: "The pipe is being closed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700E8)"
Do you have any idea? Maybe it is a hardware problem - something don't propagated on the board, or rather it is a software/driver issue?

Some Update:
I read this afternoon that the Sensor Diagnostic Tool does not work on Windows 10, MS advice use Sensorinfo from MS Store (free).
I tried it and unfortunatelly it does not see any GNSS device!!! While SDT see the sensor but can't initialize....
Here is -5°C I was outside and my hand is frozen while hold this tablet to test when it will be initialized. No way.
GPS not working
I have the same problem. In Android ( I dont know about Windows 10) I just could not get a GPS lock. In the GPS Test APP, I could not get a FIX and no satellite in view. Have you or any one knows why. I tablet is only a few days old.
I just read that the latest X98 with Intel Bay Trail-T Z3735F (it was downgraded from T Z3736F) does not support GPS. Intel Bay Trail-T Z3736F does support GPS. So it could be a hardware issue!
Me too unfortunately...any fixes please?

I have the same problem - I could not get a GPS location fix. My Teclast X98 Air 3G has a Z3735F CPU (the seller mis-stated it had Z3736F & Supporting GPS). I am afraid that Z3735F does NOT support GPS. I think it is a CPU hardware problem (no built-in GPS receiver chip) and no firmware upgrades could help us?

I asked a seller who sells the "latest 2015 model" of Teclast X98 Air 3G with Z3736F/2.16GHz. His reply was that it (Z3736F) does NOT support GPS either... Now does anyone know if there is a Teclast X98 Air 3G dual OS phablet that supports GPS?
