Screen on time - LG V10 Real Life Review

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the LG V10 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I'll leave this here..
Edit. Auto brightness under Florida Sun. Facebook, ebay and reading posting on xda.
Details: Not rooted, bootloader locked, wifi off, sync auto on, 2nd screen stock, location on, LTE on T-mobile, vibration strength stick, vibration with sound, vibration type rapid, vibrate on tap, sound effects dialpad sounds rest off, wifi calling on

Brightness set at 20%, no Auto brightness, 2nd screen on the whole time, Verizon 4G LTE the entire time (no wifi)

Screen on time is a failed meter for battery life.. I can run navigation on all day and have the screen off. I will show less screen time no matter what.. Same goes if you're listening to music while the screen sleeps.. Anyway the avg Lg phone with this battery gets you about 2.5-4.5 hrs of screen time depending on your usage. Same as G3 and 4.. Lg has excellent standby time, but horrible screen time. If you actually use your phone, these will be your results.. I go into different lighting every few minutes so I have to adjust my brightness. No way you can keep it on one setting all day unless you're not going anywhere..ever..

thats my analysis. I thought going from the g3 to LG v10 would give that galaxy note 5 or s6 edge life...nope. still averaging about 2.5 to 3.5 total use is around 7-9.

BeameD From My LG V10... The one with the ALWAYS ON SCREEN... Watching me.. ?

I am getting around 5 hours of sot time.

5h 48min sot with 15h30 overall on the battery...beast!!!!

do you have GPS, Auto-Sync, Location on or off, and the second screen. That would help us determine what's best
---------- Post added at 07:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:33 PM ----------
I'm getting 3.25 to 4.0 SOT with about 10-11hrs battery usage. GPS off, Screen on auto, location off, sync off and I turn sync on once a hour. I'm rooted

:silly:

I forgot to screenshot it but I got 20hrs +3hrs SOT bluetooth, location, sync and autobrightness on yesterday. VERY impressed coming from the Note 4, was rooted and bloat free.

Stock barely 3 days old

Results seem good, at least matching the Note 5's. But honestly the G2 still smokes all of these results. I got 19h of use with 1h45m of SOT yesterday... and 74% remaining. Not even kidding. And not even rooted, 5.0.2 stock.

3 hours SOT
I have BT on, wifi on, location on and auto brightness on. Volte is off. I have 2 sim cards installed. My phone is not rooted.
I will get about 3 hours SOT and about 15 hours battery life per day.
I needed to install Greenify to get these results. Before Greenify I was barely getting 8 hours, which was a little depressing.
I do carry a spare battery though, but I would expect a little more than 8 hours from a 3000mah battery.
Right now battery life is mostly on par with my previous Note4. I didn't use need to use Greenify on the Note4 though. I had the same features turned on with the N4 as I have with the V10.
I feel that the N4 had better standby time. Perhaps the 2nd screen on the LG is drawing extra power, but I actually find it useful so am happy to keep this on.
This current setup is working ok for me. I'm not frugal with the use of the phone. Firstly because I really enjoy using this phone and secondly, having a removable battery is the lightest and easiest solution for not worrying too much about running out of power. Tethering to an external power brick is most annoying.
Having said that, it's still an interesting challenge to eke the best out a smartphone battery.
I can see others here are getting 5 hours SOT out of their phones.
I suspect a lot of the features I have turned on have reduced my SOT, but if some of you have a similar setup to mine and have better SOT I would love to know of other useful tweaks that I could try.

5-6 hours, depending on what I'm doing. Unfortunately I treat it like it has a big battery, and usually by the end of the day I'm getting pretty low.
I'm glad that it comes with such a fast charger, and I'm looking forward to getting my spare battery.

I'm lucky to get 3 hours off a full charge.

Could the highly varied battery life be a manufacturing issue?

Just throwing this out there... I have a Nexus 5 here has pretty poor battery, mostly when it comes to the screen time. Barely getting 2 hours per charge. In fact, I called google today and they are going to replace it; more on that in a bit.
I've tried stock, CM11, CM11 w/chaos kernel, paranoid w/franco kernel - neither is better than the other.. fter seeing some people on stock + franco and other combinations getting 6-7 hours of screen time it got me thinking. Could we be seeing a set of battery manufacturing defects? Google has already changed the speaker grill and button designs [ironically, my Nexus 5 that was ordered 1 week ago came w/the smaller speaker grill and loose buttons].
However, I'm wondering if there was a bad batch of batteries out there? If I didn't get an exchange from google I was going to pop this phone open and replace the battery with a new one just to prove a point. When I spoke to google today, they thought that a 20% drop in about 30 minutes of use was excessive, which I have to agree.
Ideas? Thoughts?

I'm repeating a post from the battery thread I just made....
[quote name="wdwms" post=51191930]I'm wondering if all the variances in battery life we are seeing could be a sign of a broader issue - a large batch of defective batteries?

Nope. Its the variances in usage and settings. Guaranteed.
I got 6 hours screen time plus on my Moto x....always. with no changes whatsoever, my wife gets 4 1/2. Why? 90 percent of my use was tapatalk. Mostly just text. 90 percent of her use is Facebook, mostly images....with text. Images take more power to load than text.
That primary difference in our usage patterns made a consistent hour and half screen time difference. Oh....and she makes a few calls, I barely ever had or made calls.
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
Not meaning to debunk your theory....there are occasional defects....but mostly the huge differences are usage and settings.
The guys getting 6 hours plus screen time usually are running with most services off or frozen. Dim screens. Obviously not gaming much or at all. Not using location services or navigating. These things can make giant differences in battery life.
I suggest getting gsam. And doing a full discharge with it and doing some screen shots at the end. I'm betting if you think you have an issue that can be solved.....or its your particular usage patterns.

I can stand to have location services off for the hour of better SOT. However I can't stand having a dim screen so auto is the way I go! I still get 41/2 to 5 hours SOT!

I was using auto....and yeah, generally it's not to bad....now. I think 4.4.2 improved it....doesn't Jack up to full as much.
Then I saw someone mention "display brightness" app ....its awesome. A little slider always on my screen. Love it!

I get 6 hours screen on time on the reggie. Location left on (high accuracy) and same with Google now. I think the only things I have turned off in Google now are search history and location reporting. NFC off. Auto brightness. I agree with kj its based on your usage. I really only use my phone for tapatalk or texting mainly. Some Facebook (not really too into it) emails and a liiiitle bit of gaming.. I also use custom kernels and slightly undervolt. My phone can take -25 across the board and 675mV at 300mhz. I mostly UV for heating purposes when I game. (Addicted to robot unicorn attack 2 and smash it). Also don't use any kind of tap or swipe to wake (KILLS battery on this phone). Plus I always charge with USB. I read somewhere that lithium ion batteries discharge slower if they are charged with USB as opposed to AC. That and I don't have free A/C slots in my man cave. Just a USB port to from my PlayStation to a qi wireless charger. Yes it takes a while....
your battery life majorly depends on tbe quality of your phone/data connection. really majorly! it can make the difference of just 2-3 sot hours if not such a great signal is around, to 5-6 hours sot if there is a great phone/data signal. and it varies greatly for everyone. also, how you personally use your phone makes a large impact. its also going to vary greatly as we al use our phones differently. and how you set up your phone and which apps you use is going to majorly affect battery. and thats going to vary greatly as well. and there are even more reasons for the large variation in battery life.
Unless you heavily use GPS or voice calls, 2 hours SoT is too low. To get that you probably have a rogue processes preventing the phone from sleeping. In comparison, I've used the phone to game for over 3 hours on a charge.
Once that's out of the way and if you're still not happy with the battery life you're seeing ask yourself: what's running on my phone that I don't really need?
Every frivolous widget, forgotten service, or Google Now card is going to use some amount of battery and they add up on a limited power source.

That's a great point @simms22, don't think people factor into the equation quality of reception. In China on crappy HSPA+ with 1 bar, I'm lucky to get 3-4 SOT. In Los Angeles on an excellent LTE connection I can get 5-6 SOT. So reception adds 2 hrs of SOT in my case.
OP, as I suggested. Get gsam from play store....do a full 100 to very low discharge and lets see what it shows.
Otherwise we're all just guessing.

Do a few screenshots when your battery is fairly low. Don't reboot or gsam resets.
For screens, try main gsam screen, app screen...then click the app screen dropdown, and do time held awake and kernel wakelocks. If you're not rooted, not sure which of these won't work.

My son played some games on the phone and i had to use the phone for work, so i need to restart the test.
Right now i'm at 1d 17h 40m, screentime 3h 28m; GPS off, google now off, hotword off, bluetooth off, wifi on, LTE.
Regardless, in gsam, the time held awake is
System 33s
Battery Monitor Widge Pro 29s
Google Play 18s
Android System 15s
Kernal Wakelogs
"no apps that have consumed the specified...."
I'm going to let the battery run out (at 6% right now); I've disabled wakelock for google play store in App ops; charge it up and then let it run w/out Wifi, and leave it on 3G.. My location is on the edge of LTE so its best to leave it on 3G here
Will post screenshots of that test when completed in the next 24-48hrs

We can look at the screen shots still....but 1day 17hours with 3 and a half hours screen time? That sound pretty darn good to me! LOL
Guys getting 5 hours of screen time and that are usually near 24 hours, it much less. At a day and 17 hours....and that screen time, I'm doubting you have an issue at all.

Keep in mind 3g uses the most battery for your internet condition. WiFi and LTE are more efficient though your low signal on LTE wouldn't help.

That is false. 3g uses less than LTE. Why do you think the Moto G gets such great battery life? LTE is a battery hog. WiFi uses the least power of the 3. Unless your 3g signal is very weak, it will conserve battery life over LTE.

It has been confirmed by users on XDA as well as this test.
http://anandtech.com/show/7517/google-nexus-5-review/3
N5 LTE is more efficient than previous LTE phones due to some Qualcomm tech. Also by being considerably faster than 3G it can finish its task and go idle quicker.
Moto G battery life is mainly due to its considerably less powerful specifications.

[Q] How is your battery drain?

Since yesterday I have a LG G Watch R. Very happy with it but the battery drain is terrible this first day: on average 6,40% per hour. That means 16 hours and that is 30 hours less than advertised.
I have tht newest firmware installed, Facer and WatchMaker and some other apps. MAinly standard watchfaces. Screen is always on.
How was your battery the first day and the days after?
I know from the Moto360 forum that that battery needs a number of charges before it functions optimal. Is it the same for the LGWR?

I got mine today. Charged it to 100% After 2 hours of fairly light use with screen NOT set to always on it has dropped to 86%.
So at 7% per hour it will last just over 14 hours.
It will be going back if there is not a huge improvement.
Huge difference between this and the Moto 360. Sold the 360 on craigsllist already.
I am using facer with ambient mode on; this is basically same as having the screen on the entire time. After 14 hours, 60% battery left!!! So happy right now.
I managed 15 hours yesterday and had 5% left when I put it on charge. Its the first day of ownership though and I spent most of the day playing with it!
Today so far is 6% gone in two hours but I've hardly touched it. Jury is out on if this is going to be another battery killer, I won't be charging it through the day and if it doesn't last then its no use to me.
88% after 4 hours today. Much better.
Sitting watching TV, I noticed something was on the watch screen.
When I looked it seemed to be a search for some sort of porn.
I have only noticed this once so far.
My phone used to do random google searches when it was set to respond to "OK Google"
On the second day the drain is much better/less.
I used mine now for prox. 8 hours and 68% remaining. That's 4% per hour. Yesterday (the first day was 6,4% per hour).
Brightness on 4 (from 6) and always on. Watchface is Facer.
I think and hope tomorrow is even better.
Very happy with the phone btw. Beautifull screen, very quick and I like it better than my moto360. Think I'm gonna sell it !
I have great battery life on the R so far. But the battery drain on my phone after installing Android Wear is pretty significant. Anyone else experince this?
I switched off location services when at home and it helped the phones battery life.
Well I've been running now for 13 hours off charge now and still have 53% remaining! I'm much happier with that.
Using digitalog face and used the LGWR a fair amount today.
Agreed on the phone battery drain though, not sure if it's having Bluetooth on all the time or wake locks from Android wear.
67% after 14 hours of very light use.

I'm surprised they don't advertise this.... I need a watch that does random porn searches!!
44 % left after 16,5 hours. So that is again a lot better than yesterday. 3,4% per hour. Always on and a Facer app. Much, much better than my Moto
I took my phone and watch off charge at 13:00 yesterday. Went out for an hour used the watch a few times. Have used both very little since then but they have been on and connected. 28 hours after coming off charge, phone at 75% and watch at 50%. Quite happy with that. I will obviously get less if using it more but at least I know it will easily last a day.

I assume it could happen with any smart watch. I am surprised I have never heard of it before.
It has not done it again.
On my fourth day of use, the drain is only 3,2% per hour. Always on and a watchface from Facer. I'm impressed.
im really pleased with the battery, after a few days use im not worried at all about whether it will last the day or not. the watch face / colour seems to have an impact, i was used a colour face from facer that seemed to drain it quicker but still a full long day took it down to 30% and i mean like 6am - 10pm.
very impressed!
After a full week of using the G WatchR, the drain is steady around 3% per hour.
I can confirm the number. I get 3.3% per drain hour but the watch wakes up quite often because of the cards, emails and messages I receive on all the clients I use (4 of them). As long as I can manage more than 16 hours on a full charge I'm satisfied.

I dont know about you guys but im getting outstanding battery life. I'm going to do a test later today. Im going to charge my phone upto 100 (after it reaches 0 today) and then when 5 minutes after it says is 100, i will unplug it and i will put a 1440p video that last more than 8 hours and see how long it last with full brightness and wifi on. Then im going to post Very specific details about how everything went. Oh , aslo it will have speaker at its maximum
oh and just have in mind, i have 35 user apps installed, and some of them constantly sync (so it means more battery consumption)
Just over 3hrs. I dont think my phone has started optimizing apps or putting them in Doze.
My sot had been nothing short of spectacular.. I'm getting 5hr average... nexus 6 would barely reach 3... my g4 not even 3 also..I always wondered how people were getting above 4hrs.. Ive gotten 6+.....I jus miss stock Android
I get 4 hours with medium usage and leave everything on. Wifi, BT etc. Brightness is on Auto but it shows at 50% to 70% most of the time at work. It's my bright office...LOL

Same as I got yesterday... I don't do anything to try and extend battery life though (brightness always on auto, and I usually turn it up a little bit). Today will be my 2nd full day with the phone, and after 2 hours off the charger I had 99% left (only 5 minutes screen on time), but then I used the phone for about 15 minutes and it dropped quick to 94%)... Time shall tell, hopefully it is till just optimizing like you said...
I'm on my 2nd charge and like you guys above, I'm getting abysmal battery life.
I'll give the phone another week or so to optimise, and if it doesn't - it'll be sent back to T-Mobile with a piss poor rating in terms of battery life. What a shame if that's the case..
2 hr 17 minutes screen on time. 68% left, second screen turned on while sleep. Loving it! Restored all my app backup from Google, so its not a plain phone.
This is after my first full charge it's only gonna get better as I rarely install new apps.
Auto brightness at times, manual on others, as the brightness of this phone doesnt compare at all to my note 4.
Sent from my LG-H990 using Tapatalk
First full day at work with the phone, and actually pretty light usage day and gotta say the battery is a bit of a let down so far. My shorter days at work over the weekend gave me some concerns, but today I'm at 2% left with 13h 28m standby and 2h 17m screen time. No calls, no videos. Maybe a dozen messages, web browsing, 20mins of spotify for commute. Frankly it "feels" like it lasts the same as my 2 year old m8.
10hours 45Minutes
I don't have a sim in mine so all my use is just on Wi-Fi. Indoor use with 30-40% brightness, 49 apps and services disabled. The day after this I did 1080p 60fps video streaming while plugged into my Bose speakers using the Hi-Fi DAC for a little over 5Hours and got about 6.5Hours total SOT. But so far 10hours 45 minutes is my record. Another time I did get right at 10 hours so it wasn't a fluke.
I'm not activating mine either so that's pretty sweet.

Hey, can you share any settings you may have altered to receive such SoT. I'll be lucky if I get 4. I used to get 6-7 hours on the Note 7 I had.
Yeah the battery life sucks, and I like everything else about the phone except ****ty LED screen (I know why they didn't use AMOLED, not cost, but because with no physical home button, the buttons would burn images in AMOLED, LED won't). In any case the true test of a battery is Pokemongo at 100% brightness (which you need with this screen at all times to look half way decent). Note 7 5 hrs, Note 4 4 hours, V20 3 hours, all at 100% and same resolution/settings. So yeah, the battery life sucks, end of discussion. And my phone is a week old, no bloat and settled. Another quirk is sometimes Antutu gets 147k excellent score and sometimes it gets half that, for no reason at all, as well as 3dMark being horrible as well for some reason, half of what it should be.
This is my third LG phone (Had the V10 and G5 before), and the battery performance appears very strong on this. On my first full, non-setup charge, and using my normal work activities (lots of emails, texts, calls, and periodic social media), here's what I got
Total time on battery: 54 hrs 52 min
Total call time: 3hrs 2 min
Total SOT 2hrs 44min
That's great life a regular business user. Also, the screen is way brighter than the V10 and G5.
I've been getting phenomenal standby time on this phone, thanks to the new and improved Doze, better than any other phone I've ever had actually. I'm just not getting great SOT, like many others out there and I can't figure out why. I've had the phone for about a week now and all of the apps should've been optimized by now, I think. Anyone else having similar issues?

Dmarco, a factory reset could be the solution
Guys it is simple. It is the same Snapdragon 820 in about 10 other devices with similiar battery sizes. But the V20 will get A LOT less screen on time, my estimation is 25-50% less depending on how bright the screen is. I need the screen at 100% and low comfort blue filter to make the screen even kinda decent, like a Samsung at 70% brightness. Anyways the LCD screen on the V20 eats A LOT of battery power, it can't compete with an AMOLED. That said, the only benefit is that in 2 years your screen won't have any burn in and be worthless.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Samsung Galaxy Note5 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
SOT is usually 1 hour 23 minutes at 50%. With the Display brightness a little less than half.
The biggest culprit is Android OS stay awake time is always high.
Man I've been more than impressed by my SOT of the Note 5 compared to my crappy old Nexus 6. I can get 4-5 hours on here vs the 3 hours max I got on the N6. Blows me away. So much better phone than that was too.
I normally see about 3hrs on nougat where as MM I usually got closer to 4 hours which is a bummer but still reasonable. Main issue is the screen off battery drain on nougat. Seems to want to drain 8-10% per hour no matter what I'm doing most days.
It's ridiculous. I've drained my new note 5 in 2 hours SOT just browsing Web and reading this forum. I've got 4-5 hours of browsing with my old note 2. That's just crazy low. Xiaomi MI max 2 can easily give you 8 hours SOT. Thinking of exchange already :/
I don't understand how it is possible that every big review on the Internet that I found claims it is more than 8 or 10 hours of Web browsing possible on note 5! How can it be true? Some tests on YouTube shows there is only 4 hours from 100 to 0 without heavy cpu and network utilisation and just screen on...
I consider myself as a Power user. I Only get 2:30 hours no matter the screen resolution, 1080P or 2K. Nougat or Marshmallow doesn't matter. But I'm OK with that, I have a lot of apps and 3 Gmail accounts so I'm getting notifications all day long.
Oh man flashing the n fuel xl Rom was probably the best thing I've done with my note 5. Sot is still lingering around 3 hours or less but stand by time has literally doubled. Now when the screen is off, the phone actually chills out and doesn't burn up battery.
Went from 12-13 hours to 25-26 hours with my normal usage.
new note 5 user here
after reading many of your comment guys, i feel really lucky
i had a note 2 for more than 4 years (still have it) and with my average use i usually get 3.5-4 hours of screen time on
i just bought a note 5 like a week ago and i'm getting more than 6 hours of screen time on
i use the powersaving mode on "mid" and i usually dont need more than a low brightness ... i dont use my phone for games that much cuz i have a ps4 for that ... usually use it for social media and these stuff
i know its very good only bcuz i just got it but with my experience on the note 2 i will try not to drain the battery life and keep it good
note is just the best there is

Oh can you show me a link to the Rom? I am not a heavy user so about 2h sot is fine for me. However I need my phone to be able to last longer while in Standby. I get only 11hr of the phone, including 2hr sot now.
My note 5 battery is dropping >10% per hour with light use. SOT guesstimate to be about 3 hours. Standby drain is great but not when I start using it. Such battery drain defeats the purpose of a smartphone. I guess Samsung has a reason to design the phone with irreplaceable battery. Ordered the S8+ as replacement.
I was studying my battery life/SOT today. I managed to take some screen shots when my phone was around 8%. I'll upload them a little later when my phone is charged up. I let it drain all the way to try and calibrate it. I notice it shut off today at 2%. Around 8% I noticed my screen on time was over 5 hours or higher. Can't recall now the exact number but it seemed unusually high. I think I got around 10 hours of battery life. Once I post screen shots later can someone tell me if they seem accurate and if I get good battery life since I just upgraded to Nougat?

True. Irrespective of MM/Nougat, there is not much we can do about SOT. The best case can be just above 4 hrs. I am on PureX ROM of Rajeev. Between FuelXL and PureX, the best part is on Deep sleep. When the screen is off, the power consumption is close to Zero. The only reason appears to be that both the ROMs are heavily debloated. Any further major improvement to battery life of Note 5 can be only with Oreo ROM. In my Oneplus, i flashed custom Oreo ROM and the battery life is dramatically extended. So, lets wait and pray for Oreo form Note 5.
So everyone on stock N gets around 3-3.30hrs of sot. Felt relieved to read becoz i was worried and thought mayb my phones battery has loosen its capacity.
Btw is there any app that can tell us exact wear level of the battery?? I tried googling some apps but none gave me the exact info that I needed.
I thought my battery was still bad even after changing it but I'm getting well over 3 hours of screen time so it looks like I'm all good for now
I have 4.5-6 hours SOT every day. I'm on stock N, GPS, wifi, sync and lte on all the time. However, every now and then I make a cache reset in recovery, always after a new app installation. Guess my system is quite clean. Battery life is awesome om this device.

Before I sold my Note 5, estimated the battery wear with AccuBattery.
I recommend getting LG V20, its a great upgrade to the Note 5.

No way you're getting 4.5-6

Post your battery life

I'll update the OP once I got my first battery stats.
Here is the first charge. Regular S9 what do you guys think? Mixed use between data and WiFi
I hope we are not getting screwed compared to the plus model. We will have to see and wait

(Copied from another thread) S9 Exynos here.
Second full day (after a half day when I got it) and it's been pretty horrible. I expected it to be average or not great for the first couple days, but this is nuts.
I've got everything on - location, sync, AOD, Bixby, etc - and am losing about 5% per hour with the screen off. Ending the day on 15% with only an hour or two of SOT.
Will be keeping a spreadsheet log of it, including what services are on and how I've used it, so will report back. Hope it improves naturally with everything on though. Reception is also surprisingly average; in the bathroom at work my Pixel 1 had decent enough reception to load videos, but my S9 seems to struggle to even load images. Pixel 1 had 3G in an underground pub, but my S9 couldn't get any data at all.
First full day (Snapdragon)
Haven't actually charged to 100% (except the first charge) and recorded stats. I'll have to do that and see.
But the first night after setting up my phone, during 8 hours of non-use, my battery level only dropped 4%. The next night, with AOD on, it dropped only 11% during 8 hours. Pretty happy with standby battery performance.

Is there already a mod that improves the battery life?

My only suggestion is to make sure you have the display auto-adjust and to make sure nothing is running explicitly in the background all day.
Turn off Wi-fi, Bluetooth, NFC when you aren't using them.
2days turn on time with 5hrs SoT!!
Awesome.
You guys are posting some pretty decent numbers, considering all the negative coverage. 6hrs of SOT is pretty respectable and with my usage patterns it will last more than a day
Exynos S9
Used for 1 week
Disabled Bixby, Facebook
WQHD
Power saving mode off
AOD off
Max SOT 3.5 hours
3 times factory reset still no luck
Should I send my phone back to SAMSUNG for replacement?
