Droid Ultra/Mini/Maxx SU6-7.2/3 [4.4.4] (Temerary)Tethering Method - Droid Ultra Android Development

In this method you will be able to activate your tethering hotspot only for a temporary period of time. First hotspot activate will work fine but once you turn it off you will be prompted with the entitlement check when you try to reactivate the hotspot. You will need to repeat the process again in order to bypass the entitlement check. So with that in mind lets begin.
(I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIZONS GETTING UPSET FOR YOU USING THIS FREE HOTSPOT!!!!)
In other words try to keep this method under VERIZONS knowledge and you should be fine.
Requirements:
You will need to have done CrashXXL`s root method to have a rooted Droid.
Then once you have a rooted device download SQlite editor which can be purchased on the Gioogle Playstore.
(NOTE: i will not post any download links for SQlite Editor due to XDA rules.)
Step1: Open Rsqlite editor then go to apps then Settings storage with the two tools icon. Now from there go to settings.db . Now go to secure and you`ll see a list of words and ids as well as value columns.
Step2: Change these exact values to the values listed below.
-dun_nat_enabled= enabled
-tether_reverse_nat_enabled= enabled
-entitlement_check= 0
-USB_entitlement_check= 0
-Network_settings_on_boot= 1
-APN_CHECK_STATE= 1
APN check state is the most important.
Step3: Once the values are changed reboot your device and you will be able to use the hotspot once then once you deactivate the hotspot itll check for entitlement check. So for now this is a temperary Hotspot method! Enjoy

Easier method
This is only my first post, and I know that I might be missing something important, but there is an easier method to activate tethering for this device and firmware. While the xt1080 is not supported officially by kingroot, the app will grant temporary and limited root permissions (no /system access). This is enough to get the entitlement bypass app working on the device. I have attached the apks for the entitlement bypass and kingroot apps below. You can download the latest version of Kingroot from the official website. The entitlement bypass app will only run successfully once the device has been temporarily rooted by kingroot. While the root will not last, the bypass of the entitlement check for the tethering hotspot should remain in effect, until the next reboot. You should be able to use the hotspot without any problems until that point, at which time you will have to rerun the Kingroot app. This method has worked for me for months. I am on an xt1080 Droid Maxx running 4.4.4 SU6-7.2. Nothing else is required for this method. Although, the initial root may require a restart/retry or two. I hope this helps.

I've spent a lengthy period of time trying to get tethering to work on a broken screen MAXX, because I refuse to finance a new phone to Verizon. This entitlement app worked perfectly. So I am not able to tether the connection to a prepaid phone and forward my calls to the prepaid device and use my TWC Phone2go.
Thank you

Quickest Way to Enable Tethering and Get Back to Unrooted

I'm an AT&T unlimited plan user trying to figure out the least painful way to enable tethering, preferably without wiping the device, and then unroot it. The story is I can't root permanently because my employer uses a nasty MDM (MaaS360) that checks for root. You can use Xposed to mask it, but don't think that's an option yet on Lollipop. Is there any way to root, edit build.props, and unroot all without wiping? I know you can temporarily flash something like TWCR, but that requires unlocking the bootloader, which wipes the device. Thoughts?
Thanks a ton!
PS: Keeping OTA updates working would be amazing ☺

Won't work for those of us with AT&T unlimited plans. Should have mentioned that... Will update.
1. Use the Nexus Multitool to root your phone
2. Download Root Browser
3. Go to /System/ and open your build.prop file - it will give you the option to open in a text editor
4. At the end of the file, add "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" (without quotations)
5. Reboot and test the hotspot by going to your settings app, more, then tethering & mobile hotspot
6. Use the Multitool to unroot your phone
Nevermind, I'm an idiot. You'll lose the build.prop edit when you un-root.
Won't unrooting require flashing to stock and loss of user data?

You're right. I don't know what I was thinking. I can't think of any way to un-root without losing the build.prop edit.
Sorry.
Why not just do the edits needed and stay rooted? Its not like being rooted causes anything bad to your device. You'll still get OTAs, and even if you did get a OTA. The OTA script would fail because you performed a modification on /system/build.prop which would need you to undo the added line.
You can always just go into SuperSU and uncheck "Enable SuperSU" if you don't want root.
Only reason I'm avoiding it is because my employer uses a MDM that will stop my corporate access from working if rooted... I suppose that might work though, but thinking it may still detect SuperSU...

Could always give it a try, you'd have to wait for Xposed to work with ART and then you can use RootCloak

You don't need root to make changes to your phone. All you need is an unlocked bootloader. Copy the file on to storage where it can be edited and make the changes. Then boot into bootloader and boot twrp by executing "fastboot boot twrp.IMG" or whatever image name it came with. This will just boot and not actually install twrp. Once in recovery, use the explorer to copy the newly edited file back to original location.
Check permissions on the old file before you do it and if needed make them the same as the new version. Also, make sure you do a backup while you're there in case you mess up something.
By the way if you have sprint or tethering doesnt work you have to edit more then just that line in build.prop

Can't even install XPosed (Flashfire Issue?)

So I got around to "rooting" my "LG G4" (H525) via that one click tool called Kingroot.
So far so fine.
Pretty much all applications that require root will will allow it...
Except for one:
FlashFire....
It keeps telling me that root access was not possible,
that I shall't install SuperSU.
[However SuperSU will error out right on the start telling me to `update the binary']
=> What binary ? Why update it (just got the newest SuperSU from the Playstore)?
Trying to flash said binary using any Flashify merly showed me the lovely "your device is bricked" bugdroid...
Any idead from someone with similar FlashFire / SuperSU problems ?
Thanks in advance:
-Rye-
Do you have a custom recovery/twrp?
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
Nope, all stock.
(Part of the reason why this confuses me so much... I changed nothing... except for Root)
KingRoot is intentionally designed to serve two purposes. The first is to give you root access through their app. The second, which they don't warn you about, is to prevent you from managing that root access any other way than through their app.
They have written their app specifically to force you to use their root manager and to prevent you from uninstalling it and installing any other SU app. They went so far as to specifically block installation of SuperSU because they're upset that it replaces their app (which is blatantly absurd and hypocritical). If that's acceptable to you, then certainly do it their way.
However, because they place such restriction on root access (which seems to be a self-contradictory philosophy) then it directly interferes with the installation of more powerful root apps like flashing utilities and Xposed itself.
At this point there are two options. Either you can find a utility that breaks their stranglehold on your device and follow the specific instructions to remove their app and install something that's not restrictive, or you can restore your device to pre-root condition and root it again yourself using the open, non-restrictive methods made available to the community. Each method may be about as complicated as the other.

Fix dec 2016/jan 2017: Snapchat on rooted android device running xposed.

POST IS UPDATED REGULARLY.
LINK 1 - Parallel Space: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lbe.parallel.intl&hl=en
LINK 2 - Parallel Space 64-Bit Support: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lbe.parallel.intl.arm64&hl=en
Salutations. (That means 'Hello').
NOTE: For those who are interested, I will include background information about how I came to the solution. All that other jazz too. First and foremost however; the fix!
SOLUTION:
Right at the top of the post, you will find two links. This being a new account and all (don't ask), until I create 10 posts I cannot include any outside links. So once I've done so, I will update the post.
STEP **: So at the top of the post, there are clearly two links. 64-Bit Android devices are becoming increasingly common. This architecture may pose a few problems. give the application framework. Should you own a 64-Bit device, I recommend installing this application too (LINK 2). This will theoretically prevent any obstacles.
Pre-requisite(s): Make sure you have the 'Snapchat' application installed. It is recommended to have installed the latest update from the Google Play Store.
STEP ONE: Download the application appended to LINK 1. This is called Parallel Space. You might recognize the name (its creators are the same who allow you to seamlessly virtualize Windows OS on Mac OS).
STEP TWO: Launch the application.
STEP THREE: You should be prompted with a grid-like interface. Here you will be greeted with a range of familiar icons. In the top right corner of each icon, you will notice a blue check-mark. Make sure that there is one next to the 'Snapchat' icon. This will ensure that the app is 'cloned'.
STEP FOUR: In the 'Parallel Space' app, tap on the 'Snapchat' icon. This will launch the application.
STEP FIVE: From here it is pretty self-explanatory. You are greeted by the standard 'Snapchat' interface. Tap on 'Log In'. Then proceed to do so.
STEP SIX: 'Snapchat' should be functioning as normal.
STEP SEVEN (BONUS): During testing, this worked on and off. --
Remain logged-in to the 'cloned' 'Snapchat' application within the 'Parallel Space' application.
Then proceed to launch the stock 'Snapchat' application.
Next attempt to 'Log-In'.
Should this operation be successful, you are then free to uninstall 'Parallel Space' and any related assets from your device.
HOWEVER, I personally do not recommend this. When logging out or updating the 'Snapchat' application, errors may be re-encountered.
Instead, I recommend that if possible, do use the stock application, but leave 'Parallel Space' installed. Using the stock app will improve efficiency and reduce the load on system resources. But keeping the 'Parallel Space' application on the device, well; you get the point.
Enjoy the fix! If it does not work, please let me know [Device Name and Model No.]. I've tested on various devices, succeeded every-time. Do keep in mind that this is a loop-hole, so may be patched in future or not work at all for some devices.
Background (Because I know someone will ask): The idea came to mind while using a LG G5 as a daily driver. I had tested every custom ROM available for the device. The problem was that with custom ROM's, there was always an issue, Malfunctioning sensors, camera's not working persistently, etc , etc.
The G5's stock ROM left me wanting more. The overbearing interface made it a living hell. Plus, the device just being rooted (NO XPOSED) meant that 'Snapchat' did not work. I looked for fixes for a time, but could not find any.
Development of ROM's for the device is on-going, and I am an active member. But I just couldn't handle not being able to use the camera (one of the device's best features) and no accelerator, screen-rotation, etc. So I went back to stock again. Do keep in mind that I was alternating/dual-booting between custom and stock ROM's just because of the camera; mainly.
This most recent time. instead of flashing stock MM, I flashed stock N for the G5. For 850, it has been officially released in some countries, and a manual flash via TWRP was a peice of cake.
This update is a lot better. I am running Nova Launcher again. So it makes it look a little better. Themes have also been improved. I am using an in-built dark one which makes the device look a lot better aesthetically. Additionally, I'm rocking a white carbon-fibre skin on the exterior; improving grip and overall security. The only issue was again, no 'Snapchat'.
After a few days, I had the idea to attempt this. I tested my theory and it worked! That's it.
Please do keep in mind that I will update this post as often as possible.
P.S This was tested just after updating to the latest version of 'Snapchat' which was a significant update. It included Shazam, Groups, etc. So you know, pretty cool that it worked.
Did not work on Google Nexus 5 running Android 7.1.1. Still gives error message saying that I can't connect to the server.
Same here, not working on freshly reinstalled and rooted 7.1.1 Nexus 5x. No Xposed, no nothing. I get the infuriating "temporarily failed" message in both cloned and regular modes.

I'm pretty sure if you get Xposed framework, there's a module that allows you to hide root from apps. Problem is that there is no Xposed framework for Android 7 yet. Hope this helps.

I personally tried the module on cm13 but it doesnt work for me. I think that somehow snapchat knows when you use xposed too.
The thing is that on aosp roms with root already build in sometimes snapchat do not catch it but if you have xposed, no way you can get in. For that freaky snapchat app here is what i did: install any rom, if if had root build in i then install su uninstaller zip with twrp then log in into snapchat and after that, rooting with super su zip again. The catch is that once you log out of the app and attempt to log in again, you cant get in and you have to repeat the proccess. It's annoying as hell!!! They need to disable the security check, if people want to cheat che system somehow they will, so whats the point. Also there are much more tweaks for jailbroken iphones and they have no problem with it .
Sorry for the rant here buqt im super frustrated.

That's the only solution I've seen working so far. unroot and reroot. Root cloak doesn't work, parallel doesn't work. I should've logged in before rooting and I hate to do it again.
Any work arounds yet? I've seen ppl do it using titanium backup but I'm not sure if that works. Can anybody help?

Step one turn off xposed.
Step two reboot
Step three sign into snapchat
Step four turn xposed back on
Step five reboot
You should be able to snap now.
Okay. I will try this on monday and will let youknow how it goes. Right now I decided to unroot to use snapchat, so I didn't loose my streaks. Thanks in advane will let you know how it goes.

Now that i think of it, when i uninstalled xposed it didn't work still. but after i "fully unrooted" through Super su and tried to sign in it worked. so it has to do with root or maybe both but the xposed didnt work for me. Thanks even though it didn't/wouldn't have worked for me!

Snapchat detects xposed framework.
Though at a time they did do root they since moved to blocking xposed due to the security concerns with money and also privacy of the user.
Though with certain phones and ect that could be the case I am using a s5 and have no issues.
just install magisk and systemless xposed and turn on magisk hide in magisk manager now snapchat won't detect root
then when u wanna log in just turn off xposed in xposed installer and reboot "it won't take time booting optimizing app when reactivated now" so reboot is easy
and u can have multiple accounts by backing up snapchat with titanium backup and don't ever log out just wibe its data and when u want to relog just restore the backup
and if u want to have multiple accounts access just patch the titanium backup with luckypatcher and have multiple backups (accounts)

make a nandroid backup if u want
1- full unroot by opening supersu and going to settings and press Full unroot and wait till it finishes and restart
2- download xposed uninstaller if u have xposed framework installed and flash it
3- install magisk manager from playstore
4- download and flash last magisk which is (12v) now from : https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
5- flash magisk v12.0 which you downloaded now your phone will have systemless root
6- go into magisk manager app and go to settings and toggle "Magisk Hide" (ON) and restart now your root is hidden
7- remove your current xposed app and install this one : https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/material-design-xposed-installer-t3137758
8- flash systemless xposed : https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268
9- reboot and go to the xposed installer app and toggle the xposed off or on as you want when u restart it won't take time optimizing apps like before so fast now
your root is hidden now but xposed is not but you can disable it and enable it easily
Instead of using Parallel Space (which I believe to be insecure) use Island to clone your apps. It's a little more advanced to setup, but it's a lot more secure. It works for rooted and non-rooted devices. On the 1st page of the thread, it explains how Parallel Space and others repack the apk file locally, which is dangerous. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/closed-beta-test-incoming-companion-app-t3366295
Island never repack apk file locally, which is inherently insecure for users, since all your app data (including password input) are technically in the hand of MoboClean. (The same applies to other similar tools, e.g. LBE Parallel Space)
Instead, Island takes advantage of the underlying mechanism used by "Android for Work". This ensures that all your apps run natively in Android system and their data are securely stored in internal location of Android which is never accessible by Island. It has the same level of security as "Android for Work".

Be sure to read the disclaimer!!! The app is still only available in closed beta at the time of writing this, and could possibly cause you're device to bootloop or even possibly brick it, but root, xposed, or other modifications {in my opinion) has a higher chance of bootloops or bricking your device.
You follow the same steps in island to clone snapchat as you would in Parallel Space to login to snapchat. It might be possible to use the play store inside island to download snapchat inside island and login that way. I can't remember exactly how it works. I believe that island is a good way to test apps in a "sandbox environment" to keep the data excluded, safe and secure from the regular apps that you have installed outside of island.
I use Magisk now which bypasses SafetyNet which is what snapchat uses to "block access" to modified/rooted devices.
Probably the easiest method is to download Casper which is an alternative snapchat client that allows you to save snaps, and many other features that the official snapchat client can't do. Find Casper at www.casper.io
FYI Netflix has started to change how they do things as well by hiding the app's play store page from devices that have been modified or rooted, but it's still possible to simply sideload Netflix for now.

Microsoft Intune Company Portal

Hi
I've search the forums but apart from finding several people with the same issue, i didn't find anything useful.
I'm running LOS14.1 on a OP3 with latest Magisk. Safetynet passes but the MS Intune company portal seems to be detecting that the device is rooted. Turning off root however is not fixing this. Any idea on how it detects this or are there solutions via Magisk for dealing with this (or other solutions off course).

I am on stock Lollipop rooted using Magisk 11.6. Outlook wouldn't start for me even though magisk hide was enabled and safetynet passed. I used the Tasker app to get around the root check with the with the following tasks:
Launch App (Outlook)
Run Shell command:
su
chmod 0754 /data/magisk
sleep 25
chmod 0755 /data/magisk
This launches the outlook app and changes the permissions of the magisk folder for 25 seconds so that when it does the root check after I input my pin everything checks out. After 25 seconds it restores the permissions to what they were, and root continues to work. I exported this as an app (long hold on task, click menu in upper right and export as app) and it seems to work like a charm.
I tried changing permissions on the individual files in the /system/data/magisk folder, but that didn't work. changing the permissions on the whole /system/data/magisk directory to 0754 seems to do the trick.
You can also use a root file manager to change the permissions, but you have to be careful because if the file browser loses its root privilege before changing the permissions back, you will lose your root capabilities until rebooting into TWRP recovery to do a chmod 0755 on the magisk folder. It's more inconvenient than having tasker do it, but it works.
Hope this helps somewhat.
The only issue I'm having is that tasker seems to be a paid app. I'm not willing to pay money if I'm not sure it works.
This is why asked the question. In the other threads I read it was clear that this is not always working so I asked the question in here specifically for magisk.

Tasker is definitely worth it! If you're worried you can try by doing the chmod manually first.

Each company has different policies. Also some don't use intune (maybe that's you).
Time for another update.
The problem is not necessarly the oulook app. It's the Intune Company Portal that's closing everything up. Is there a way around this?
From my experience it even trips on unsigned custom roms. Currently Paranoid Android is the only one not giving me problems.
as far as i can tell it detects:
- signed / Un-signed
- root (the binaries itself). Disabling root results in the exact same error notification
If magisk.hide is enabled for the app, there is no way it will detect the root binaries.
Detection could be due to the build props .. ones such as
ro.build.tags=release-keys
ro.build.type=user
Have you tried setting the above build.prop properties to the value mentioned above. These are not set like this for custom roms.
You may try the attached magisk module to set these.
Changing these build props is not working.
Root beer sample is still detecting dangerous props and safetynet is also triggering.

Then you have some other issue. Both, root bear and safteynet should pass easily with magisk on custom roms.

Intune is just detecting specific aspects and the company i work for says that in those cases no configuration (of email for example) is allowed to happen.
But i've got no clue as to what it is detecting.
If i run Paranoid Android as a ROM it is possible. If i switch to LineageOS or Resurrection it's not.
Somehow the setup of these ROM's differs in a way to MS Intune trips or not. Is it possible to figure this out in some way?
I having same problems too but with onedrive, atm at work we are testing intune and now it would not let me use onedrive as the intune app detects root...
It could be detecting apps that require root as a secondary check, do you have anything like root explorer , Titanium backup etc ?

For me, It's detecting something in sbin even though magisk unmounts it. If I remove read or execute permissions from sbin then Company Portal and all associated apps launch just fine. Of course nothing that needs root works anymore since without those permissions nothing can access su or anything else needed for root.

i found out @dizzybrow fix works in magisk 11.6 but not 13 (didn't try 12). i'm staying on 11.6 just for this reason.
Any better ways to fix this problem?

So you are using Magisk Hide on 11.6 and Intune is not detecting root? I tried that and it didn't work for me.
Anyone else have any ideas?
Are you using Tasker with the variables provided by dizzybrow? If so, it should work with 11.6 (safetynet still fails).

I am trying to, but I am not all that familiar with Tasker, so apparently I am doing something wrong. I would appreciate any assistance as far as setting it up correctly.

Editing Build.Prop with regards to WiFi hotspot

Hello, recently got myself a new pixel 4 from Google and using it on Verizon without issue. I've yet to root but I'm getting ready to do it. From what I've read, it's a little bit of a pain once you root to get the monthly security updates installed, but I will probably do it anyways. The main thing I read is that you cant modify system files in any way. The main reason I want to root is for WiFi hotspot and maybe to run AdAway. AdAway can be used with systemless hosts once set on magisk, but the method for hotspot is as follows
Modify Build.Prop as follows
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
And then adb shell
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
But if I run these commands in ADB won't I be modifying the system directly and therefore would be botching my phone from being able to take monthly security updates?
My last phone was an HTC 10 on Android 7... Soooo, this phone and the dual partition and Android 10 are all new to me. Apologize if this is an elementary question. I ultimately want WiFi hotspot, GPay, NetFlix, etc. and the ability to easily get security updates. Just not sure how to proceed. TIA.
I don't think you can root Android 10 yet, right?

sure you can with magisk
The Magisk repository module "MagiskHide Props Config" will allow you to set arbitrary build.prop settings systemlessly.
I haven't been keeping up with the news, but you might want to do some research about GPay and SafetyCheck API always failing if your bootloader is unlocked by the user. (Google started using a capability they've had for years but did not use)
