Portable charger with built-in type C and C-->Micro adapter - Nexus 5X Accessories

hi all. wondering if anyone has seen either of these products?
1. A slim portable charger that has a built in type C charger...basically something like this: http://www.amazon.com/LinearFlux-Portable-Charger-Micro-USB-Devices/dp/B00L3MNYV6 (but with a type C and not micro usb). I don't even need to be super fast, but bonus points if it can still charge rapidly.
2. An adaptor that is female type-C to male micro-usb. Most adapters I've seen are the other way around (and yes, I'm still waiting for one to be certified by Benson). In my case, I'm looking to carry the Google charger (https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_charger) with me. However, I'd like to able to charge other micro-usb devices with that cable and not carry another charger (eg work blackberry, portable battery pack that has a micro input slot, wife's Note4, etc).
Thanks everyone!

I just bought this portable charger with usb type c built in. http://www.amazon.com/Portable-RAVPower-20100mAh-External-Technology/dp/B0156HCJQO
It's on it's way.

Ok, seriously, the MOMENT you get this thing please post results. It says 3A under the type C port and that is EXACTLY what I am looking for if it does actually charge our phones at 3A.

Agreed. Looks really promising, but I'd still love to have a smaller, thinner one with a built-in type C cable...Thanks for posting though, I will definitely look into it.

Just got it! Works awesome. I would say, it's as big as a phablet, twice as wide. It does charge rapidly with the Google USB type C cord that comes with the phone. You can charge this using a micro USB, or the included cord that came with the phone. It's a bit on the heavy side, but I need the juice to last me since I'll be in the woods all weekend long for the big hunt. Overall, it does what it says. I'm happy with the purchase.

That is big but that is a lot of juice. Probably 4 charges easily.

I've got it and it's not small but is very good. with the 5x you could probably get close to a weeks worth of charges out of it

Thanks.

It was listed in that Google Sheets document but I do agree it would be nice to see measurements. I also wish they had a 10,000mAh size pack for a more compact size.

Amazon is best place to buy any product.

Although it does not precisely fit the OPs request, Anker have released a 20100mAh pack with USB C http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00M0EWED0 I thought it worth posting as packs wit USB C are so thin on the ground so far.
Looks like max charge rate is 2.4A per port not the 3 we might have hoped for. This is the same rating as the Micro USB version of this pack I already own. The USB C has improvements such as metal construction and faster recharging of the pack using the USB C for input. Not enough for me to upgrade.
There were two smaller power packs with USB C listed on the Anker website recently but these have disappeared from the coming soon page

I just got mine and its also reporting a full 3amp charge. Its also fine with charging from the type C as well apparently so it can reuse your existing charger (it says micro in but you dont have to use that one).
Its a big heavy beast but its got a lot of range so this will work for camping and traveling. Now I just need to find a compact one (preferably with an integrated type-c cable) for a booster when on the motorcycle.

aw, that totally sucks, why do merchants keep trying to lie to us
thank goodness we can return items, though

Ive just looked up the Anker USB C pack on their website again, Although it is not made clear in the product description, someone has asked about charging a N5x using the C port and the answer from the Anker teamQ+A is that the C port is 3A after all.
http://www.ianker.com/product/A1371011
Thats great news, I am a bit of a fan of Anker products, I hope they do produce a smaller USB C pack in time.

I want that too. Id love a small like 3-4k one with the cable built in like Anker makes for micro SD just for using a spare while on the motorcycle but I am glad I picked this up. Its great for long-distance trips and can charge multiple devices without noticing.
Unfortunately I did notice one shortcoming, while it charges my N5x rapidly the charging of the Nexus 9 is horrifically slow, like .5amp slow. For some reason it must not be communicating properly with the tablet to do the full two amp charge.

Nexus 7 Car Charger

I was just wondering if anyone here has spotted a Nexus 7 car charger? Does it not matter if it's not specifically made for the Nexus 7? I'm trying to find one to buy online and I'm having some troubles. First post here I think I came to the right place though.

Clicked thanks on accident lol. Any USB car charger should work, but I would make sure you grap a 1 amp one just so it has enough output to charge the tablet at a decent rate.
probably better with a 2amp one. samsung makes one for the tab2, about $12 on amazon, and just use your own microusb cable to connect to it.

Yup, go with a 2Amp one. Most of the cigarette lighter usb chargers are 2.1A.
Avoid the cheap Chinese 2+Amp car chargers, they can be so badly made they cause enough interference to wipe out your FM radio.
/edit 1Amp will be fine but don't go lower, the N7 would likely burn it out.
FYI I tried a 5v 1a wall charger and my gnex7 said f u wouldn't take the charge. 2a or nothing I say

Do you already have the Nexus 7? If so, can you take a look at the charger and see if rated at 1A output and/or try to charge it with a charger that came with your phone?
I am just curious if it can actually charge with less than 2A. The charger listed in the Play Store outputs 2Amps and I thought most tablets require 2A to charge.

Still waiting, should only be a couple of days now though...
I know this is something most people never do...but if you read the manual for the Nexus 7 it says you can charge it on a standard USB port with the Nexus 7 in sleep mode (no doubt because the power draw is much less). Standard USB ports are typically .5A...sometimes less. I would say that's the actual minimum. For the fastest charging 2A is what you want though.
The ASUS charger that comes with the N7 is rated at 2A (10W). I tested an old BlackBerry 0.85A (~4W) micoUSB charger and it seemed to work fine and the N7 didn't complain though I didn't do any scientific tests against the charging rates.
The 0.5A (2.5W) chargers probably won't even charge the unit if you're actively using it.
Cheers,
Kermee

Yeah...read my previous post...the manual says you can charge on a standard usb port (0.5A sometimes less) but only if the Nexus 7 is in sleep mode...ie you're not actively using it. If you can't charge it while connected to USB and it's in the sleep state...then your usb port is probably a low power USB port (<0.5A).
For those looking for a good backup battery charger for it...I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NGKR54/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
works perfectly with my Nexus 7 (just make sure to use the correct USB out port on it as only one of them is 2A)
DealExtreme Charger
Saw this one on DealExtreme, even come with cable:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/car-ci...-port-for-google-nexus-7-tablet-146751?item=8
Will be ordering will update when arrives. Also they're carrying Nexus 7 Cables in Pink, Green and Orange.
Was using a Sprint micro-USB plus charger (model PVX8823) with attached cable and standard USB port for 2nd device that I was using for my phone. Output is 0.65Amp which isn't sufficient and will slowly drain the N7 battery while in use. ~$35 at Sprint retail store. Wouldn't recommend for obvious reason.
Fortunately, had a spare Motorola SPN5400A 1Amp I bought with some screen protectors from Amazon because it was cheap like ~$5. 1Amp is sufficiently to maintain the charge while in use at near worse case running 3D games like Dead Trigger, Shadowngun, etc. So, 1Amp is minimum threshold.
You need a charger that:
1) Is capable of 2A (1.5A may be sufficient, 1A is a little too low)
2) Shorts D+ and D- together - This rules out most iPad chargers.
If it says it is made for iPod/iPad it will not work without modifications or adapters.
Samsung tablet chargers will work.
If you take an iPad charger, open it up, and short D+ and D- together, it will work.

Most chargers for android phones will work. I use my HTC charger for ,mine and I bought a car charge that has the standard micro USB connector but also has another USB port so I can charge 2 devices at the same time with 1 charging unit. You droid razor charger will work just fine. You just need to locate a charger that is capable of charging 2 devices at the same time such as this one

You'll be good to go with this.

Check out this oem charger from Sprint. Its a dual port charger with a 2a output and you dont have to worry about buying a knock off charger that may or may not perform as expected. It also can be used as a wall charger. Good price too....

So are any of these confirmed 100% to work? the one a few links back (GTMax) says works with iphone, and I thougth that meant would NOT work with N7. So I am confused on what will work, and I am already on my 2nd Nexus7 being I blew out the USB trying a bunch of differnt chargers for the car.
I would like something that is small and can have multiple USB plugged in, but not a show stopper, just hope to find something on Amazon (Prefer Prime) so I can oder with my case today. Really want to use this in the car more (GPS\GoogleMusic..ect.), but with no power not a great option.
Thanks in Advance,
Drops

Confirmed fast charging longer cables?

Those who have their phone know the cable on the fast charger is 1 meter, which is not long enough to reach any table youd ever have a plug next to.
I tried two different type C -> Type C cables and neither would fast charge with the included wall wart.
Anyone find a longer cable that fast charges with our plugs? 2 meters would be great.
It's tough sledding hacking through all the different Amazon.com listings to get something with an actual USB 3.1 and 3A rating for a 2m cable. The ones I;ve seen are either out of stock, take forever to come from China or overpriced in the $25-30 range. Would love to hear from anyone that actually found one too.
I bought a type C to A from amazon for the computer and it charges rapidly on all my wall chargers down to 2.4 amp.
Monoprice was out, otherwise I would have ordered there. >>> http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13010
this is what I'm using, fast charges and mounts no problem.
http://tinyurl.com/oyahw4h amazon link
I would bet this will work. same brand as what I have, they have a real thick jacket on them. It's a good cord.
http://tinyurl.com/oyahw4h amazon link
edit, I just read the description on amazon for those cords
....Note for Nexus 5X/6P: In order to ensure FAST CHARGING, please ensure the charger can output 5V/3A. The cable can afford 3A current did not mean it can provide 3A. We recommend use Google official USB Type C charger with our USB C to C cable...
That monoprice page is goofy.. title lists it as USB 2.0 and then the description goes on to talk about USB 3.1

USB 2.0 refers to the data transmission standard and really nothing to do with charging amps. Although, to be USB 3.1 compliant, I think the cable needs to be fairly stout to handle the increased loads in both data speed and charging power. My guess is this cable is in fact 3.1, but someone made a mistake updating the title.

I understand that. Monoprice's 2.0 c to c cable supports up to 3A. No point in spending almost double the price on the 3.1 cable..

What I am saying is that it is hard to even trust the 3A rating with the conflicting statements on 2.0 vs 3.1. Do you have the cable and have tested it? That would be different.

Yes I do have the cable. Monoprice has that 3.1 description on all of their type c cables for some reason. The 2.0 3a cable works just fine.. I just went from 49% to 82% from when I went outside to winterize my boat and when I just went back in to check my phone, not sure how long that was, but a pretty short period of time. I usually put it on the charger when I turn on the TV at night and take it off when it hits 100% before I do to sleep.
I ordered this USB A to C one, http://.ebay.com/itm/261840366171 . The phone says Charging Rapidly. I have not done any data transfer with the computer, but upon plugging it in, the computer detected it ok. It ships from the US, but took a little while with standard shipping. Maybe almost a week;

I dunno about that. I have used a couple 2A Samsung USB chargers with type a to c cable and my phone charges almost as quickly as the stock charger at least in regards of empty to full. I think the difference between the stock and alternate high amp chargers that are around 2A is how quickly it can do a partial quick charge from say 0 to 50% but from 0 to 100% I haven't noticed much of a difference.

I got one of his cables to review... I got it to charge 2.2A + using a 2.4A charger. But I do think you are correct in that there probably isnt a 3A option with anything using USB TYPE-A. 3A seems to be the realm of pure USB TYPE-C.

Best portable charger
For USB Type-C devices, my favorite amongst all is this Flux best portable charger
Aukey 10050mAh is the best portable imho.
It has both type c and type a port and it can charge and be recharged using type c at light speed.

[Review] Tronsmart USB C Car Charger!

First off, I'd like to say I received these products for an unbiased review! Secondly, my English is not amazing, please no judgment. LASTLY, I will upload pictures later.
The Tronsmart Car Charger is amazing in build quality, it is sturdy and it fits nice and snug into a car port. It comes with two outputs; one USB A, and another USB C. The USB A port supports Quick Charge for your other Android devices, and USB C charges just like the factory charger (just for cars). I tested both outputs using Ampere, and they both charge at the said rates (USB A goes to only 2.0A and USB C goes to 3.0A). I did not have two devices at the time to charge both at the same time, and I will update this when I do.
The cables are got were amazing in quality as well. Tronsmart really knows how to build mobile accessories. The cables are thick so they don’t feel like they will break in a couple days (unlike Apple official cables -___-). They give a nice click when you connect it into the USB C part on the Nexus 5x. They also are certified cables from Google employee Benson; if you check using Ampere, they are charged at the correct Amps.
I will use it more often and report with more info, I'm in college at the moment and super busy with work so I will update when I have the time.

Are there any 3rd party charging blocks and cables that work well and provide rapid charging for the 5x? I've looked at a lot on Amazon and Ebay and there don't seem to be any that work as well.
There's this from SONEic....
Also, can anyone tell me if you'll get faster charging (like Type C to Type C) if you use a USB 3.0 to Type C cable, or does it matter?
Thanks,
Jank.
This CHOETECH power supply works well: link
You need a type-C to type-C cable to take advantage of the full speeds. I use this one: link
Check out this sheet for chargers, for cables and accessories.

Also Google"Benson Leung". He's put a lot of time into testing a lot of products and can probably save you a lot of headaches. There's a lot of really questionable cables and chargers out there for USB type-c so you want to be careful. It's not like the old micro USB days where anything worked. Bad cables can burn your phone, charger or worse
@adobeman - appreciate the reply. I have seen that spreadsheet but noticed nothing had a review date for this year, 2016. I had hoped something more current that was a sure winner would have been released by now. Maybe not, maybe it's just the SONEic and Choetec so far. There are a ton of the LG OEM cables/chargers on eBay but they all ship from China so are questionable at best, don't know if they're knockoffs or real. Oh well. The problem with the Google cable on the play store is that it's a single piece, the cable isn't removable.
Guess I'll give one of these other two options a shot and go from there. Thanks again!

I have tested LG OEM cable/charge on Nexus 5X, the charger support Quick Charge, it works well with device but it didn't charge as quickly as stock Nexus charger. I remember that it took me about ~1.8 hours to charge from 20% to 100% with LG OEM charger. LG OEM Charger output is 5V/1.8A, 9V/1.8A while stock one is 5V/3A.
If you want to take full advantage of Nexus 5X fast charge, you should choose charger that can output 5V/3A current. You can get more information in this article.

@SuperBoUDS - thanks. I went with this option this morning: SONEic USB Type C rapid charger & this Anker USB C to USB 3.0 for another cable. They should be here Friday and I'll review and confirm how well they work. CUrrently, I only have a legacy USB 2.0 to Type C cable that came with my used phone. It only charges up to about 1400 mA when the batter is really low.
FYI, since the spreadsheet is outdated as of 2016 the best (albeit disorganized) source for USB-C cables/charger/accessories that are compliant is probably benson leungs amazon profile feed:

if you don't want to go with choetech or tronsmart, you can find oem LG chargers and cables on eBay for $15-$20
I have three choetech USB C wall chargers. I've had inconsistent performance with them -- at times the phone does not register it as a rapid charger, and so far one has stopped working completely. The USB cables are from Anker and I haven't faced any problems with them.
You can't go wrong buying an OEM or Google made charger.
I use this one while traveling. Benson Leung approved. It works great and also allows to charge another USB A device at same time. https://www.amazon.com/Charger-GMYLE-Adapter-Macbook-Chromebook/dp/B01193T77I

After using the SONEic USB C to C charger I purchased above, I can say that I've rarely, if ever, seen it charge faster than 2.15 mA. That with the battery fairly low so I would think it should be charging faster. It does come up as rapidly charging though. It works well enough, just was hoping for more.

I can confirm that the Soneic didn't go above 2A using Ampere app . I tried the Choetech and it went upto 2.5 A once.
Both say charging rapidly. I'll be returning the Soneic
I've seen varying performances with all chargers, none of them seem to sustain the charging rate even if the phone is <10%
Not sure if it's the same behavior with the OEM charger
How about this one? Is good enough for 5x ,
