Does the Nexus 6 get 4G LTE in the US on AT&T's network? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I don't want to make the same mistake twice! I bought a Ascend Mate 7 (MT7-L09) and low and behold it does not work with Cricket (my carrier) which runs off of AT&T towers. I tried to make it work with the whole HSPA+ thing but it's really slow, cutting in and out, service bouncing around, problems with the play store, etc.
So if I can find a phone I like that is large and gets 4G LTE - I want to switch. Hence my question about the Nexus 6 . I see that Verizon sells it so I assumed it was a 4G LTE phone but I see a lot of talk on here about HSPA and LTE being "released" for this phone so I don't want to to get one if it's not something that's going to get lte.
Anyone know about the 4G situation with AT&T (NOT TMOBILE - no TMobile access in my area!)?
Thanks in advance! (And sorry I'm spamming this board so much lately with my phone stupidity).

The Nexus 6 XT-1103 is sold by AT&T in the US and works with all AT&T LTE frequency bands. The Nexus 6 XT-1100 (International version) works with some, but maybe not all, AT&T LTE bands.

[Q] AWS Band 4 Verizon Dev Edition

Can someone please confirm with a screen shot that the Developer Edition of the Moto X has band 4 LTE AWS support for VERIZON. The only reason I did not purchase a Dev Edition of the Moto X is because I contacted Moto (after scouring the Internet for specs, Dev Edition says 750 Mhz LTE ) support and they specifically told me Verizon Dev Edition doesn't support AWS Band 4 for verizon.
Thanks.
Well, when I put my T-Mobile SIM in, I get LTE. Since T-Mobile uses Band 4, and not Band 13, that would imply the Verizon Moto X supports Band 4 LTE.
But T-Mobile or Verizon sim installed in the phone, it never reports Band 13 or Band 4 when connected to LTE.
AWS Dev Edition.

Yeah I've seen other reports of this. I was looking for proof from someone in a big city with Verizon's AWS network enabled to show me some really fast speed on a Verizon network.
Thanks for the reply though.
Does this help? Done the other night sitting in my living room... near Thorndale, PA... its not a big city, but its not bad.
And remember, just like with Band 13, there could be congestion on Band 4 LTE.. So don't expect speeds to always be this high... especially since AWS is 1700/2100Mhz so in building and such is not as good, and signal doesn't travel as from from the towers when compared to Band 4.
Oh, and here is a shot with my T-Mobile sim in my Verizon X. If the phone didn't support Band 4 I wouldn't get LTE on T-Mobile.
I've done speed tests on my dev x and at the same time ran a speed test on my wife's s3. I know the area has aws since my s4 showed I was connected to it. On the x I got about 70 mbps and on the s3 about 10 mbps. Aws is definitely supported on this phone.

Why would they put a chip in with different radio compatibility when all that is really different underneath is the bootloader?

Verizon didn't make the phone, Motorola did. If they put a different radio chip in, they'd have to pay for FCC testing/approval/certification on two devices, one of which is going to be a low sales model. Do you really think they'd offer it if they had to spend well over what they'd ever hope to make back for it?

[Q] Nexus 6 on verizon roaming on telus

Hello all,
On my Verizon LG G2 VS985 when roaming in Canada on telus I could get lte.
Same sim card in nexus 6 does not get me lte. Can anyone shed some insight on this as to why?
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks!
do you have data roaming and national data roaming enabled in the main settings, more, cellular networks..?
Did you have both phones at the same spot and swap your sim card and one got LTE and the N6 did not? That's probably the best way to test.

I haven't done back to back swapping, but my brother got his nexus 6 first, and us standing beside each other I had lte, he did not. Now in places where I had lte on my g3, I do not with my nexus 6.
I have it with I believe, so I will test back to back. But I'm not sure when I will have time for that yet. Next few days.
Thanks to the both of you!

Quoting both of you again only for notification purposes.
Both phones side by each, LG G3 VS985 gets LTE roaming on telus, nexus 6 does not. Neither get LTE roaming on Rogers. On the G3 I can specify telus LTE , but that doesn't work, I have to wait for LTE after selecting the telus hspa network.
Not sure if these are any good, or helpful, but I am attaching 4 logs. Two from the G3, one successfully getting LTE from telus, one failing to get LTE on Rogers. Other two from nexus 6, both shortly after connection drops on telus (when I presume it's trying to get LTE and failing).
Again, if anyone can help, I'm all ears. Thanks!!
Here is the last post to me from the other thread where I started this investigation :

Product F(RED) said:
I don't know if it's a Verizon thing, but it seems like LTE roaming is dependent on the software, not necessarily the SIM (at least for Verizon).
Here, you can see the G2 had to be updated just to support LTE data roaming:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...ed-calling-1-0-improvements-lte-data-roaming/
So I'm wondering if there's something that need to be updated to enable this. Otherwise, this should work fine. I cannot think of a single reason for this not to work. Telus uses LTE Band 4, which both your Nexus 6 and LG G3 support. T-Mobile's main LTE frequency is also LTE Band 4, and that's the most popular carrier to use the N6 on. So it's gotta be a Verizon-specific configuration file on the phone or something.

I think Product F(RED) may be onto something, if the G2 needed an actual OTA update to enable LTE roaming.
How about LTE while we roam on Rogers, that would be way more advantages to us since Rogers has way better coverage then Telus

There is more to it then we think, when I gas a Verizon GS5 I would only roam on Rogers, my wife with her Verizon GS5 roams on MTS, mine would not even see MTS
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
It depends on the PRL you have. Its a software thing. By the way, Telus and Bell share towers up here in the land of the great cold, much much better coverage than Rogers. And I mean, much better. Rogers has huge gaps in coverage. And all cellular networks are nonexistent once you get off the beaten path...
I'd like to revive this thread, as we are still not getting LTE while roaming in Canada on our non vzw Nexus s.
Verizon,Motorola, and Google support have been no help.
Can ananyone help?
Thanks in advance
Update: VZW Nexus 6 gets LTE when roaming no matter what. Stock or custom rom, rooted, unlocked, different recovery.
Non VZW nexus 6 does not get LTE when roaming no matter what.
The imei is the only thing left that could be causing this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
So after a long lengthy process with VZW, they finally after 9 monthes allow non VZW Nexus 6 devices to roam on LTE, Thank you @Enigmafied ???

Can I use a Verizon Note 4 on T-Mobile?

I'm thinking about switching to T-Mobile from Verizon and I just got the Note 4 so I would want to bring it with me. Would everything like LTE work fine on the T-Mobile network?

LTE Band 4 is enabled on Verizon phones as well. I've used many Verizon phones on T-Mobile.
Verizon GS5, Nokia Icon and the Sony Z3v all work and get LTE Band 4 on T-Mobile.

Verizon Galaxy s6 4g not working on tmo network

I am pretty confident that is the issue but I thought I should check with you all first.
Seems that Verizon's unlocked SG6 does not support band 4 which is the 4g band of tmobile, and naturally I cannot get 4g. Everything else works flawlessly but I cannot get 4g at all. Using my SG5 I get 4g no problem but not with the SG6.
Can anyone confirm that this is the case before I return it to Verizon? I just got it today and thought it was an amazing piece of technology but I might have to return it now...
tia
Why didn't you just get a T-Mobile version? Try going into the service menu *#2263# and go band selection and see if you can do it there.

I found this article that may help explain why Verizon's phone will not work on TMobile Network;
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2407896,00.asp
For what it's worth, I did a GOOGLE search and found this and several other articles about the difference between CDMA and GSM phones..(from what i understand, TMOBILE is GSM and Verizon and SPrint use CDMA)
I do hope you figure somehting out... GOOD LUCK

Were you able to get LTE/4G on T-Mobile using Verizon S6? From the specs list, it says Verizon's S6 support band 13 and band 4. Band 4 is what T-Mobile uses for LTE.
I'm curious to find out because I am looking to purchase the Verizon S6 and use it on T-Mobile.
TIA
T-Mobile also uses band 2 LTE in some areas- something worth looking at.

Using an Unlocked Factory Image on Verizon

I have a Nexus 6 that has the Verizon image on it and would like to know if an unlocked Nexus 6 would work perfectly fine on the Verizon network or will I have to keep the Verizon image?
In other words can I use N6F27I instead of the Verizon specific N8I11B and if I do will I still get complete coverage on all of the Verizon network?
You can use whatever nexus 6 Rom you want, with or without a locked bootloader. So yes it will still work on your network
Sent from my Oneplus 3t
But will it work utilizing all of Verizon's frequencies and network?
Yep, because the bands are all preset at the factory. The version of Android you throw on the N6 has nothing to do with it.
So would there be any advantage or disadvantage of using the Verizon version?
That's something you're going to have to find out for yourself. I'm not on stock.

I use an unlocked AT&T N6 that I removed all the AT&T ringtones, bootup chimes etc. and have no problem using it on Verizon. The only Verizon app I use is "My Verizon" to pay my bill and it works without a hiccup.
And it works on all of the Verizon bands including their 3G, 4G LTE and 1X Bands?

Mine did. I set preferred network type to LTE / CDMA and everything worked.
