[Kernel/Root] Root for the SM-G530P 5.1.1 [AOI1] - Galaxy Grand Prime Android Development

Root method for AOI1 / 5.1.1 for the SM-G530P THIS WILL TRIP KNOX. If you don't want to trip knox don't use this. If you do use it and whine you tripped knox because you didn't read ,we will all point and laugh at you.
Named it TrapKernel because well its not my normal HispAsian Kernel and I listened to a crap ton of Trap Music while doing it.
Thanks to @g.lewarne and his root method with his Unibase and Unikernel for the s6 , we finally have root after I ported it over to us. So be sure to thank him for his work.
What's included:
Auto installation of root and busy box
Kernel set to permissive
Otherwise stock
So here's the deal. Stupid simple. Make sure OEM unlock is checked in dev options if you have it.
1. Put Phone in Download mode
2. Open Odin
3. Connect Phone
4. Put Kernel in AP Slot
5.Flash it
6. Reboot and profit
Notes:
Download SuperSu from the Playstore. Its not included.
Change ro.securestorage=true to false in build.prop to make phone stop forgetting wifi passwords.
Delete the /system/app/SecurityLogAgent folder ot get rid of ratarded system modified warning
Download
Do NOT mirror this link. Period.
TrapKernel AOI1
Thanks to @Newyork! for testing it

Source code for permissive for anyone who wants it. Fork, build it, mod it, whatever
https://github.com/ShinySide/G530P_Permissive

I am the first one to be rooted with this above method!
I can confirm that everything works great!!
Thank you @ShinySide :good::good:

I second that!! Working 100%!! Thanks once again!!

Can you please tell me witch other G530 the G530P is most like and the differences. I have a G530P and have been learning on it but don't feel like i want to brick it. Im looking for a CWM version however i seem to be one of the 8 people on earth listing that exact model # G530P ?
Thanks in advance.

Make that 9. I have it rooted but need a cwm or other recovery too.

Friendly warning for people who are rooting the G530P after March 26th, there is a new software version rolling out labelled as APC4. It's still 5.1.1 but there could be compat. issues if updated to APC4. Unknown yet. Try at your own risk.
Thanks again to OP for making this phone rootable lol

My friend tried it just now and she said it did root the device. So no compat issues. People can enjoy the APC4 bugfixes with the AOF8 / AOI1 root kernel.

Not booting
OK, I have a SM-G530P with 5.1.1 AOl1, after flashing this with Odin and it doesn't get past the SprintSpark boot screen.

Clarification needed
Is this 'Permanent Root'? I rooted my G530P using the CF method and when using EFS Pro, it told me that the device didn't have permanent root. Can anyone tell me if CF is permanent or Temporary?

Excuse me for being a a beginner at this but, would I be able to remove the kernel and go back to the original and if so what is the process?

Do you think you can update the kernal?

Hi Everyone,
Didn't see anyone post the stock firmware ODIN files for the AT&T Samsung S5 SM-G900A. Here is the link for the .rar file.

I was able to restore my phone with ODIN and these files.

Nice, good work! Hopefully someone knowledgeable puts these to good use and helps us with a root method :good:

Already posted the recovery in CF Root Thread but I dont think CF Root will actually work, the ATT S5 likely needs a new KK root exploit not yet released.

Nice work guys. Looking forward to root soon.
Really hope there is some progress soon. The S5 is a great phone stock. Not too much bloatware but I would love to have root for Xposed and additional debloating. Greenify works a lot better too. And can't forget Titanium backup. I will donate to whoever releases a stable root for this phone.

I really just want to debloat more than anything. (and use good root apps)
Even if there are no developers for custom rom etc.
Guys, I'm new to this, but from what i've gathered it sounds as if there may not be custom roms for the at&t s5. Is that correct? Reason I'm asking is I'm trying to decide between s5 and oneM8. (coming from oneM7)

We are going to be lucky if we get root, and then after that even luckier if we get a safestrap recovery like the one on the Note 3. But unlocked Bootloader i highly doubt it since even the ATT Note 3 still does not have an unlocked BL.
The HTC M8 has an unlockable Bootloader, so theres full custom recoveries and great Dev support, lots of ROMs as of right now, and AOSP Roms should start dropping soon (If thats your cup of tea)
I was going to get the M8 for those reason, but the camera from the M8 made me change my mind.

Unrooting the device though Odin works in restoring your warranty. Doing so make it as if it never was rooted.
atlast I have rooted it successfully
In iPhone, I failed to jailbreak first time, because I updated iOS version 6 to ios7 from my device software update. (OTA=Over the air). Not by iTunes.
But that time solved the problem, by Restoring my device via iTunes. And then able to jailbreak easily..
Now my Question:
Since Galaxy S5 came in version 4.4.2...
But after using 2 or 3 days, an update was installed in my SMG-900H.
Update file size was about 25-30mb.
But still version no is 4.4.2, no change is there..
So will it cause a problem (like- iphone) , if I try to Root my Galaxy S5 first time?

yes you can root, but can't do any more updates after rooting. if you want to update in the future, you would need to go back to stock causing you to lose root, update, and then, root again after the update.
Hi,
I want to root my S5 as soon as I get it (as with all my previous Galaxy devices)
But , the rooting procedure makes the device "custom" and then Allsharecast does not work as far as I know.
Is there a solution to this for S5 ?
On the S3 and Note 8 , I had a modified lib file (libWFD_Engine.so) which fixed the problem of being a custom device.

Looks promising. I like that it doesn't trip KNOX but will the "custom status" be a problem?
I'm 7 days into this phone, still have a week to return/exchange it if something is defective. So far it's running fine, dont foresee need to take it back.
But .............. If I did need to return it, is there an "unroot" and/or a way to remove the custom status ?
*** EDIT *** I haven't read all the way thru the root thread, so if my question has already been answered I apologize.
No Custom Status
I have now rooted twice, flashing the firmware posted in this forum in the middle. My phone has not shown custom on the bootscreen once. I also encrypt before I root, so maybe thats it. Who knew you could be encrypted with root?
Have you uninstall all the att bloatware without problems? Or used greenify to improve battery life?

Yes, all the typical rooting items work as they should. You can even flash zips with fireflash, and not trip Knox.
It's NOT in the bootscreen where you can see the custom status. It's in settings / about device / status. In the last line it crearly says "Custom" under Device status.

You'll generally have to manually flash updates once you've rooted, the OTA process will usually refuse to update a device running a modified system image. Not that big a problem, but sometimes it confuses people.

Or, install Samsung drivers, then Odin, and flash a stock image that way to return to stock, then OTA works fine. There is another thread around here with a stock image, I'd suggest anyone looking to return to stock in order to complete an OTA, to review that thread.

Would we be able to use fireflash and keep root if somebody were to get the OTA and customize it for our needs to keep root, etc? I know it's a hard question to answer, but maybe you guys have experience with other locked bootloader devices.

This is similar to how we did it on the AT&T S4 using safestrap to flash touchwiz based roms that were pre-rooted. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to flash non-touchwiz based roms without an unlocked bootloader.

SM-N920W8 ROOT not in the list

Hi guys, first time poster here, I was on this thread
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/dev-pre-root-firmware-twrp-testing-t3183877
and it said on it that the model SM-N920W8 was supported for the spaceX kernel.
Once I clicked on this link
Code:
http://samfirm.net/post/129813196562/spacex-kernel-note5-s6e-plus
I dont see the SM-N920W8 model in the list of Supported devices status, unless he forgot to put it I don't see it and I doubt its the SM-N9208 cuz this one is a dual I think.
So did someone actually use it for SM-N920W8 and it worked with no issues? Mine is the rogers version in Canada.
thnx

Hi and welcome,
If you follow the download link for "all N920", pretty sure that's the file you need:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=39339
SpaceX-Kernel-v0.1_N920W8(official).tar.md5 ; should be flashed with Odin.
Also, remember that this root method will trip the Knox flag permanently (Void warranty).
EDIT: I actually did not tested it. Someone else could confirm, although I feel quite confident.
While I can verify the above kernel works on my W8 (Rogers), I cannot seem to shake the issue of random reboots.. At least once a day the phone will reboot on its own, and almost every phone call, the phone will reboot a couple of minutes in.
I love having a rooted device but the compromise of stability is making me consider going back to factory stock... Using the 0.1, 0.2, and noble kernels have all yielded the same symptoms. Anyone have a suggestion?

Hi there, since you have no random reboot issue at all can you please give us the link of the files. And, that would be great if you could guide us the step by step procedure. Thanks in advance

Seriously? I learned reading and not asking step by step instructions. Come on man. Do some research.
Alright no instructions needed. Like others I have tried all the kernels for note 5 and found random reboot issues. You are saying you have no issue with that whatsoever. That's why can you please give me the link of those files?

I don't know what version you have, I got the N920W8... Here is what I did, hope that helps.
*NOTE* N920TW8 is the N920W8 version combined with N920T version. They are basically identical. Just in case you were wondering where the N920W8 is since you will only find N920TW8 in the list, go here
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/arter97-kernel-galaxy-note-5-t3189907
Read about it a bit then go here
Code:

grab that file above and flash it with philZ recovery (that's what I did)
you can grab philZ from the same link of the kernel, either the MD5 if you are using odin or the zip if you will flash.
and that's it! I had no issues on my phone at all, I installed WANAM's xposed and all is good.
Thanks for your help
I'll definitely do this. I use N920W8 with telus.
Thanks so much
Hey mate, it worked. Thanks so much

Since the Kernel is a zip file, you can't install it with Odin. You have to use twrp.

You have a lot of reading to do. Search for rooting s5. Make sure you understand everything before trying to modify your phone. I'd hate to see you bricked.

He means, go to Settings>About Device and look what the Android Version is. If it is 5.0 then do not bother looking to root your device...it's not possible on an ATT device with Android 5.0 right now.

yea its 5.0, is it possible to downgrade it? if it is, what version do you think is good enough to root?
You can't downgrade if you're already on 5.0, and even if you could, you can't install anything beyond Touchwiz (Samsung) based ROMs because of a locked bootloader.
Let me know if you have any luck

Thank you for posting this question because I am in the exact same situation. I have an AT&T Galaxy S 5 Android 5.1.1. I was never interesting in rooting my phone until just recently and have been doing some light reading on Life Hacker to learn more and it brought me here. I just wanted to clarify your comment above. Are you saying that having the phone that I/we have we are completely out of luck if we wanted to root/modify our phones? Forever or just until something changes down the road?
Well I sold my at&t s5 and ordered a unlocked tmobile s5 to use on at&t with my sim card because you can root the tmobile version. I hope one day soon someone will figure out how to root it I believe it will be done soon just keep checking back on here.

Well good news for y'all:

Well, yeah! But you need to downgrade first. Note that I don't test it, so use it at your own risk! Also I recommend that you use a good cable, or else...

I don't think that will work, the firmware listed there is 4.4.2 which is KitKat, you can not downgrade to KK if you are on lollipop or marshmallow, you could soft brick or worse. I would not attempt this unless you are actually on KK.

Well it seems that is true...For us:

Maybe you can "update"(don't recommend it,though. Again, try it at your own risk):

For future reference, don't give these unsure ideas to people and tell them to update their phones like this. At the moment, YOU CANNOT GET ROOTED LOLLIPOP 100% of the time unless you were/are on 4.4.2 KitKat with root (use Towelroot) and update through muniz_ri's update method. Trying to downgrade to KitKat will result in a bricked device as the thread previously mentioned.
The reason why root persists on 5.0 when you update it via this method is due to using the older bootloader which doesn't verify the system's integrity the same way the newer bootloaders do.
