how to get software update? - K3 Note Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, how do i update? i don't see an option to update through settings -> about phone.
can anyone help please?
thanks

If there is no option under 'about phone' then you can't do an OTA update. You will have to do it manually.
Go to hackerpower's Index thread, find an update ROM that can be flashed via the stock recovery and flash away.
Good luck.

All right, I did it about a month ago and only once, so I won't be able to do it from memory. I will have to flash a stock recovery back so I can see what it looks like. I won't have time this weekend. If no one else is able to help you before, I will have a go at it on Monday.
NAR

OK, let's give this a try.
Download the ROM you wish to flash and copy it to the root directory of your SD Card with the name of update.zip
Power off your phone and boot into recovery.
Once the phone is powered down, hold the Vol+ and Vol- buttons, then press and hold the power button. Continue holding all three buttons until the phone gives a brief vibrate and the screen comes alive (about 5 secs).
You will be greeted by a screen that looks like the first attached image.
Tap on 'English', it will take you to the main menu (second image)
Tap on 'Install update package' (third image)
If you are ready to go, tap on 'Yes'
That should be all there is to it.

Hi, if i don't have that recovery, it means i cant do it and hence maybe I've got a fraudulent phone?

I don't know about the fraudulent phone, but I did once get my phone into a screen that was all Chinese when trying to boot to recovery. I don't know what it was (I pulled the battery to reboot rather than make a bad selection from the menu ) and have not been able to find it again
I would suggest you try a couple more times to boot into recovery just to be sure. If you have adb on your computer, you could try
Code:
adb reboot recovery
If that fails, you will need to flash a recovery (either stock or custom). With adb and fastboot it is not that difficult.

Unable to reboot in download mode

I find my newly purchased tab 8.9 very laggy with the stock TouchWiz
Before returning it I wanted ti try the Overcome rom to see if it can get any smoother.
I carefully followed there instructions but I am unable to go past the downloading droid. once I validate with the right button volume, the tablet simply reboots.
Does anyone else have this issue?

Let me get this right: you sucessfully flashed Overcome, and want to ODIN but when you try to get in Download Mode, it reboots, is that it? If so, that's the first time I've heard this issue. How are you trying to enter Download Mode?

I see. The Overcome thread also has the CWM Recovery as a .zip file which is flashable through Stock Recovery (same procedure as flashing Root). You just put the file in your internal SDcard and flash away. If you still have doubts, read a little bit here, as I'm sure that will clear any doubts you might have.

Don't expect perfection from a port, ever (port = a ROM that's not native to the device). The motley kernel, along with UV can help you in the battery department.

My system right now is a stock ROM us retail P7310UEKHA flashed with CWM and CWM and I want to install a 3.2 stock ROM using ODIN.
The way I try to access the download menu is
1. Turn off the tab
2. wait 30 sec
3. restart with the down volume pressed
4. when the reaching the menu between recovery and dowloading. Select dowloading with the down volume button and validate with the up volume button.
Result: a black screen for 3 seconds and then the tab reboots

Thanks lupu666ro. I've tried installing stock Rom with CMW but nothing works. I have found very sparse info about nvflash. It looks like the solution but I'm a bit wary about tring this without a instructions. Could give me more info or point me to a tutorial
Thanks!
Still no luck...
So I have tried reflashing the stock US retail ROM and ran the EULA3 OTA update over it. I can't seem to figure this out.
The OTA update entered the download mode for a few seconds during the update so I am wondering if I don't simply have a locked bootloader.
I have made a video to show the problem: http://youtu.be/b09-x31ldbs

3.41 bootloader info from google support

Well I decided to call Google about the boot loader recovery not working as it should. I was hoping this call would help them to work on another update but they say that's the way its supposed to work. Here's the email Instructions:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter
Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then
press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished,
select 'Reboot system now.'
The only option we have in the new recovery is to wipe data. Maybe for those having problems accessing twrp or cwm will be able to a access it with step 5. I don't know haven't rooted yet. So I decided to ask about nvflash and they said they're not going to release any nvflash tools or files.
um, yup. thats how stock bootloader and stock recovery work. lol
whats the issue? if your not even rooted, you wouldn't even know if you have an issue or not with the new bootloader.
Are you saying that you can't flash a different recovery? Or that when you do you still get the same stock recovery? I'm not quite sure what the issue is here, because that is exactly how the stock bootloader, and recovery are supposed to work.
Are you making sure to unlock fastboot before trying to flash recovery. I don't recall seeing or hearing anyone say anything about not being able to get to clockwork mod once its installed.

No. I saw people posting they couldn't get go cwm and could only see the red exclamation point. And I was just saying maybe after choosing recovery then holding volume up and power it would then go to cWm or twrp. I was hoping for someone to try it who is still on 3.41 Recovery. A lot of people downgraded back to 3.39 or whatever version it was

I can confirm that to get in to the stock recovery you hold down 'power' and then tap 'vol up'.
At present I am running the latest CWM touch recovery. This boots straight into it from the bootloader without any extra button presses.
My personal preference to go into CWM is from either QuickBoot or ROM Manager.

When I first flashed TWRP onto my Nexus 7 after that official 4.1.2 OTA update, I wasn't able to boot into it. I then flashed it again via fastboot, and then booted the TWRP image that was on my computer, and then TWRP loaded.
I believe TWRP does work normally now as well (I can boot into it and reboot into it).

Well if I was you I'd just use mskips toolkit, its absolutely epic it'll save you a lot of farting around. I take it that your fully updated? ( Not that it matters) You seem to know and understand your way around adb so just go for it and enjoy.
Its works smooth as silk and save you a lot off time. The options available to you are just staggering!

going to recovery from bootloader works fine after 3.41.....wat r u talkin abt? (i m stock rooted+twrp)
oh yea...u hav 2 remove that recovery stock.p file thingy first.
There are plenty of people that are having issues with recovery on 3.41 bootloader.... Its confirmed some have it some don't.
The issue is that with 3.41 bootloader on some Nexus 7 Devices a custom recovery is unbootable no matter how you try, every time it will try to load recovery and fail at a black screen then reboot into the OS. It does not matter how you try from ADB reboot to recovery or from bootloader with USB attached or not.

In your system folder there's a file called 'recovery-from-boot.p'
Go into a file manager with w/r access and rename it ' recovery-from-boot.p.bak'
When the system boots it reads that file and resets the recovery to stock, by changing the name you remove the problem.

[Recovery] & [Root] [T211] TWRP 2.7.1.0.KK Unofficial

READ THIS POST BEFORE INSTALLING ANY CUSTOM RECOVERY
Updated to version 2.7.1.0.KK on 10-28-14. Now works with KitKat (and older JB) bootloaders.
Now properly supports all set_metadata functions in newer updater-scripts.
Click HERE for the latest version.
Please report any bugs here in this thread.
Please take a moment to say thanks and/or donate to @ketut.kumajaya for helping us out.
I have a T210R, so I haven't tested on a T211.
Credits go to:
@ketut.kumajaya for working kernel
@Jamison904 for giving us root
@hkjr for getting ketut to help
and of course the Team Win group
Instructions for ODIN
1. Download ODIN on your computer.
2. Power off the device.
3. Restart in "Download Mode" by holding the "HOME" button, "Volume Down" and "Power" all at the same time (for about 5 seconds).
4. Hit the "Volume Up" to enter download mode.
5. Start the ODIN exe program. Un-check Auto Reboot. See notes about ODIN below.
6. Connect the device via USB to your computer. Verify the device shows as "Added" in the Message box. If it doesn't show then you need the Samsung USB drivers (just install KIES to get them).
7. Select "PDA" then choose the recovery file you want to flash.
8. Hit "START". Wait for Odin to finish (~10-15 seconds). The message area will display "RES OK" when finished.
9. Wait for device to restart. Skip this step if you unchecked auto reboot.
10. Restart directly to recovery mode before rebooting into OS.(Hold POWER, Volume UP, and the HOME button all at the same time. When you see the Samsung Logo, let go of the POWER button, but keep holding the Volume UP and HOME until you see the recovery screen).
After you get the custom recovery working, you can flash the latest SuperSu zip to get root.
Your internal SDcard will get mounted as "/data/media". So look there for any files saved to the internal card.
Notes about ODIN
--Make sure that "Re-Partition" is NOT checked.
--Auto Reboot can be un-checked if TWRP doesn't flash correctly on your device. Some have reported that un-checking Auto Reboot fixes this issue. If you un-check Auto Reboot, you will need to reboot the device yourself (refer back to step 10).
Instructions for recovery flashable version:
Boot into your previously installed custom recovery.
Select the Install Zip option.
Find the recovery zip.
Flash.
Reboot recovery.
Enjoy your new recovery.
Flash at own risk!!!!

Hey @ketut.kumajaya, it seems the touchscreen needs to be rotated for this one. I would attempt to fix it, but we all know you can do it much, much better (and I don't want to start all over without your kernel source)
EDIT: I used the new zImage from the 1.8 T210(R) version in my T210(R) TWRP and the touchpoints are off in it as well. Looks like the previous touch orientation fix you made got overwritten with the new update.
Looks like it only needs to be rotated clockwise 90 degrees (not flipped, just rotated).

Not true...your internal SDcard is mounted as "/data/media". Navigate to that folder and you will find everything on your internal card. You will have to hit the "Up one level" button to find it.
EDIT: I will add a note to the OP about this.
Now that there's root and recovery, has anyone flashed a successful ROM for the T211?

URGENT HELP NEEDED. I bricked my recovery and my phone is on bootloop.

Guys please help me. This morning, i was uninstalling google now app and when i restarted my sparkle v, it got into a boot loop. it says optimizing apps and then starts over again. I am currently using CWM recovery and that too cannot be accessed. so i am completely out of ideas. if there was a way to access the recovery, i could flash another backup rom but i can't access my recovery. Please help me guys....:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

nope. that's also the problem. i can't get into recovery. instead of getting into recovery, the android load screen appears. And that was why it is double bricked...

thanks bro. I've been using cwm for all these times and i'm pretty comfortable with it. will try it some other time. btw i'm planning on upgrading to a redmi note 4 this week. i heard it is easy to customize and get good roms. after android one, i don't think i can use a phone without rooting or custom roms for long anymore hehe...

Wow, nice.
I too have a redmi-note-4 64GB one, it's quite good.
As you can see development is also topnotch atm, it's kicking!
Yes, once you get addicted into Android, you can't just leave it lol.
It's easy to customize with Miui, like themes etc.. But as a Android one user, you will feel like you need to flash an AOSP based rom and get rid of Miui.

Yes LOL!
But youve to unlock its bootloader first, for a kind info - Unlocking bootloader was like really really pain in ass!
You've to apply for that via their website then wait for their approvals, once you get approvals then try unlocking oem, it'll fail... Fail.. Fail..again n again, but one day it'll let you unlock your phone successfully. Lol
Like that, once you get your device unlocked with their official method, then play with roms! ?

There is no full firmware with Bootloader 5, there not even any of G935 was OTA updated to Bootloader 5 as of yet. . There are only combination files witch you should not flash unless you need to fix your phone. So i'm sorry but you stuck on it.
Can't seem to get it to download... through computer or phone
Edit: I got it.... thanks

Yes. You can flash directly and this will wipe data in your phone.

Stock ATT firmware
Thanks tons, now stuck in a boot loop cannot even turn off. I have tried various ways to get the U version and if I get this back to stock, think I will sell it and buy a U version. Hate carrier proprietary garbage.:good:

Bootloop
You need to get to recovery and clean cache
Have a ask a really dumb question, How do I get to "clear cache" in recovery? And of course, googled it, just have to charge some. I did achieve root earlier, just trying to get the "U" mod installed. Thanks tons
edit: Did the steps so now I have a blinking message saying recovery booting...

Press and hold power, home and volume button up anthill Samsung splash screen. Then let go and for recovery menu to popup.
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA Premium HD app
Boot loop and maybe bricked
I still cannot get to the cache to clear it.
Here what I have right now.
hold power button, screens goes black then have the first screen of start, S7 edge, it goes off and comes back on
i can get into down load mode, tried reloading the stock firmware but get a write error, model miss-match
if arrow down goes to start up boot loop, if arrow up does into downlaod
power off (does not really shut off)
Vol up + home + power, gets the recovery booting loop
Odin sees the phone, but any writes all seem to fail. Sometimes have to use Odin Prince sometimes 3.12.7
In 12/.6 tried to load the S7 edge qual com image file from rooting, and that said fail in red.
Tried to flash back stock but like I said earlier, says product code miss match
I had tried to use odin to do that update and that probably is what screwed the pooch.
Any ideas?
eror 404 not found broken link very nice...
error 404
can you upload the file again ?
@norbarb you need to take all your links down if you're not going to reupload them.
Boot loop and recovery boot loop
You need to get to recovery and clean cache
ok so, is there a way to fix this with boot lop and recovery in boot loop?
Odin comsy sees the phone but ADB does not... Hoping to get this fixed and working again. Had to buy a phone so using a SM-G930V. At least no more ATT for me....
Anyone???
Here you go guys enjoy.
