Deleting Default Bookmarks in Stock Browser... - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't figure out how to delete the default, pre-installed bookmarks in the stock browser. I've researched it and found a few different "fixes" that have worked over the years for Samsung devices (apparently they've had partner provider bookmarks for a long time) but they don't work on my VZW N5.
Any ideas on how to chuck those bookmarks?

Tried an app that was supposed to address this - Bookmark Manager.
Didn't work.
Bummer!

If you are rooted, try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476383
You may also try the Verizon forums for the Note 5 or the S6 to see if anyone has an answer for you.
Good luck

Thanks.
I am not rooted, and I'll definitely check out those other forums.

Synchronizing Google Bookmarks with android bookmarks

....as the title says, is it possible?
I don't think there is. I wish they'd add that ability along with the ability to sync notes to there as well. Considering, both are part of the "Notebook".
Then again, I don't think Chrome even has this ability yet.
I agree... but im not using Chrome just using firefox with GMarks
The only way I know of so far is to download My Bookmarks from the market and export your google bookmarks then import them using My Bookmarks
If you have a rooted device you can edit the browser.db file...
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/browser.db "SELECT * FROM bookmarks;"

You will need to write an app who adds/sync's your bookmarks to your device.

Thanks for this! I was wondering where these were stored, and thinking about maybe writing a quick xmarks importer.

Thinking??? You should definitely do that, I would actually pay money for an app that can synchronize my xmarks to my g1
Sycning Google bookmarks with android is possible with http://www.gettransmute.com/android/
As far as syncing xmark(foxmarks) with android there was someone working on some code but he never finished. I think the code is on his site if someone else wants to give it a try.

Yup, that would be a $2.99 app if I ever saw one.
The latest Chrome builds have bookmark sync inbuilt, i bet integrated Android bookmark sync is right around the corner..
Currently they use your Google Account to host a Google Docs document containing the information about your bookmarks.

Amazing that two years later there is still no android <-> chrome bookmark sync...
A newer app that seems to handle this reasonably well (I am not affiliated): ChromeMarks

[Q] Disabling Mobile View?

Hey there,
My HTC Desire had the option where I could turn off Mobile View and get the pages shown just like I would had I sat at home from my PC. But is that option not available on the 2x? . I generally detest using mobil view and prefer the full on view at any given time.
But so far I am at a loss in regards to finding that setting on the LG Optimus 2x, considering its not a browser setting that I can select or change. But has anyone stumbled over this and found a working solution?
You should be able to do this with hidden menu, and or with another browser.

If you write about:debug in the address bar, press go, and then go to the browser settings, the UAstring option should now be available.

I tried that one and it didn't work. Some mobile sites still threw me to their mobile view edition when I used that. But apparently using HiddenMenu and setting it to Mozilla changed the issue entirely
Correction,
Neither HiddenMenu NOR about:debug will allow me to view sites like Engadget in their normal editions, but forces their mobile view on me with no way to change
And Mozilla for Android still throws me to the same site.
Use Dolphin HD.
If its another browser then I am not really interested :/. I would prefer a solution that works with the native android browser. HTC could make such a setting which WORKED. Im baffled why LG opted to keep that setting out.

I totally agree with out. However, using another browser is the fastest solution right now.
Setting the user agent to desktop in the standard browser using about:debug should work but does not always as you experienced.
I just don't see how it will work in another browser when both the Native one, as well as Mozilla Firefox web both fails with a bang?

Doesn't work either, even if different UaStrings set through its settings . WHY oh LG WHY have you messed it up so that we can't watch webpages like we can do at home instead of being forced to watch mobile view >_<
So far the only solution is to basically visit the sites, and try to find the "link" on site to change it from mobile view to regular view and hope its saved in a cookie so it keeps the setting :/
Dude wuts the problem install dolphin or skyfire and change the view to pc,profit??? I mean seriously...

Read my post thank you!!.
As previously stated I have already tried installing Dolphin as well as Firefox. Tried every sodding profile there was, Android, iPhone, Desktop etc and NONE of these made Mobile view vanish.
Even tried about:debug as well as HiddenMenu and those don't do the trick for me either.
The ONLY thing that seems to work is going to the sites and manually clicking that I want the regular site. But then its not the browser doing anything, its cookies that does the talking which somewhat defeats the purpose. I mean on my HTC it was a simple checkmark I had to remove and it just worked. On my LG it seems like its an insurmountable feat to actually get regular PC view and get rid of mobile view the "right way"

I cant's say I disagree with that. It makes no sense to be honest, ie why it wont work on some LG's and how HTC has been able to make a "switch" for it that actually works and doesn't require you to do the cookie route.
yeap,
I've test too and Mobile View can't is disabled but some website check is the visitor send WAP information, and with the debug mode, some WAP information from the Browser are sended...
I chatted with LG Support Germany 5 minutes ago and asked about this issue and the supporter confirmed this problem and there's no general workaround right now but the issue is know and already reported...as he said.

Music Beta by Google: A Must Read For All Root Users!

The Music Beta by Google app seems to be giving me issues. I have been using it since it launched on the Xoom without any kind of problems until now. It is telling me that I have too many devices connected to my account. That doesn't make any sense because I know for a fact that I do not have more than 8 devices or computers connected to my account like it's telling me I have. I know for a fact that I have my Xoom, my Droid, and my computer all connected to my Music account. And that's it! Nothing else.
Now I can't use Music Beta on my Xoom... and I don't know why it would be saying that when I know it's false. This is the only app that is giving me problems. Screenshot attached...
UPDATE: The problem has been resolved by me! Check out the post below to see...
I have fixed the problem! I am rooted, of course... and it turns out that every time I wiped data on my Xoom, and then signed back into my Music Beta account on a fresh new install, it would add my Xoom to my list of devices again. My Xoom was actually listed 7 times on the Music Beta device list, followed by my Droid... which is a total of 8 devices. That explains everything!
To fix this:
Just log into the desktop version of Music Beta by clicking here, go into settings, and then you'll see a place to manage your devices. Just remove the multiple device entries from the list, and then... presto! We're back in business!
Important Lesson Of The Day:
If you own a Xoom, are rooted, wipe data a lot, and you use Music Beta a lot... you will want to make sure that you check out your device list right away. I can almost guarantee that your Xoom is listed more than one time. If there are multiple device entries of the same thing, just remove them off your list. It's that easy!
And if you don't do this... eventually you will end up hitting 8 devices total like I did. Then you will have to remove at least one device entry from the list before you can use it again, because you are only allowed 8 devices at a time, even if it just so happens to be the same device listed 8 different times. Just be aware of that situation and you won't ever have a problem.
If anyone has found this information useful or informative, please give me a thanks. Also, leave any comments if you have any. Thanks all!
i experienced a similar situation with the kindle app, every time i wiped and reloaded the kindle app, it thought it was a new xoom, so i had 6 tablets on the account.
thanks for the heads up with the google music.

Ahh very similar situation indeed. It's something I wanted us root users to realize when wiping data. Little things like this... I don't think most people think about or even know about. Also, thanks for the heads up about the Kindle app. I don't use it so much right now so I didn't know that.

Nah it's cool. You need to click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner of the Music Beta page while you are logged in, and then hit music settings. You can then see the page that has your devices on it. Done.
Thanks for finding this. I couldn't figure it out. Would work fine from my laptop, but not on my EVO or my Thrive. Was making me a little crazy.
Thanks for this. Since I've only wiped my Xoom once, it was listed once...but my D3..listed multiple times, cuz of wiping
Thanks!!
Thanks for the fix, I got the notification last night and had no idea how since I only use Google Music on my PC and phone, hopefully they fix the issue of it automatically authorizing the same device multiple times.

Hopefully they do down the road. Each device has its own MAC address, so it should be fairly easy to allow it to differentiate between same devices so that they will not make the list more than once. It should not be difficult for it to identify a device that is already on the list via MAC address, or so you would think so right.

I'm pretty sure you're going to need root to use that method.
No root required to disable apps. However, to remove them, then the phone needs to be rooted.

Subject line of the thread linked says Root not required, but sure!
Tried it out just now, thanks for linking it @blkghost22, I've been trying to find a way to disable certain things and this did it!
Stock Music app sometimes comes up when I connect my phone to the car via Bluetooth, and there wasn't any easy way to disable it
I also recommend going to Filter, typing ATT, and disabled all that crap too - I've done everything except Knox, Remote Support, and Usage manager.... someone needs to come up with a safe list of apps to disable to debloat this device, it would be very helpful!
Will this let me disable stuff like the built in browser? Because there are some aid that the phone just won't let you disable which I find really dumb.

It should, I don't know the title of it from an APK or package standpoint (I know it's called Internet, but I can't find it searching right now), but once you find it, you can disable it
EDIT - SBrowser is the name of it

Okay, I can't read. I'm sending thanks X 2 to Charlotte, NC.
I'm at 55 apps disabled so far, and I don't think I'm being all that aggressive with disabling TW / Samsung / ATT features..... Anyone know of a good safe list for this phone yet where we can really speed this thing up? Not like it really needs it, but there's lots of hidden crap on it running we know about but haven't been able to disable previously

Honestly, and I appreciate you looking to me for advice, I don't think I'm the best one to go off of, I know that nothing I've disabled was going to crash my phone, but it's all that TW / Samsung / ATT features like I was saying - the program allows you to filter by text used, even if in the middle of a package name, and that helped a few times tracking down some odd APKs
I read on Forbes that the S6 has 56 apps of bloatware on it, and I'm at 55 disabled apps, with a lot of TW / Samsung / ATT features still running, so most likely that was a list of what they could see from the app drawer or something....
Nothing from me. Just wanted to see if people actually tried it. If it worked then go thank the dev or programmer of that debloating app.

Silky - I have attached the apk file from Enewman17's SGS III 4.42 kitkat stock ROM. This is what makes "bookmarks" show up in the setup/google account/sync with all the other sync options. It goes in the system/apps folder not the priv-apps folder. Set permissions after copying to folder. It is a deodexed ROM, so I don't know if that matters or not for the odexed S6 ROM.
Have no idea if it would work on the S6 or not. Wonder if you might try it and see? It can also be found by googling the apk name.(but the version date is 2012). So I would try the attached first in the event it's a more recent version.
Thanks
(I know you know more about these things than me...don't mean to come off as an expert by any means)
