NEED HELP PLEASE-Photos deleted! - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I had just gotten the Galaxy Note 5 on Friday night and thought I had set up Google Photos app but I guess it wasnt fully set up. I ended up accidentally deleting an entire album of pics that I took from a concert I was at with my Dad on Saturday night. I was editing photos through the gallery app and I somehow deleted the whole album and I am crushed as I lost the pictures with my Dad. (And i dont have drop box yet either).... i know there are programs such as recuva than can recover the pics but because of the new software that is in the Note 5, when I plug the phone into the computer, it doesnt recognize the phone as a removable disk and only gives me options as an mp3 player/camera (MTP & PTP) so programs such as recuva arent picking it up as a drive to recover since its not picking up as USB mass storage. Someone please advise on how I can get my computer to recognize the Note 5 as Mass Media or any other options without rooting. Thank you all so much in advance!

You cannot make it get recognized as a Mass Media. That feature has been removed from Android for more than a year now. Some OEMs used to support it but even they all have phased it out. If you are rooted with a custom recovery, try mounting in TWRP. I doubt it will work but you can give it a try.

[Q] "How do i connect the phone to the PC to transfer Music files?"

Hello,
truthfully if I wasnt locked into a contract for 18 months I'd throw this phone in the canal.
Out of the box it's complete and utter tripe nothing works on it, it lags between apps, bluetooth crashes phone, can't connect it to PC, couldnt update the software etc etc utter utter rubbish.
I finally updated the software to 2.2 via the 02 stores 'Tec Guru' yesterday. I thought 'great at least the phone will work now'. I was wrong.
It still is completely unrecognised from the PC, it just says 'connecting' when I run Kies and hangs there like it did before I updated to phone software.
I can appreciate if your tec savvy it may be an easy problem to sort but for the average person this phone is a complete joke, I hate it I really f***ing hate it.
Honestly how does anyone think this phone is good? all I want to do is put some music on it, I may as well learn how to do a full MOT on a 88 Ford Fiesta it would be easier then overcoming the non stop hurdles this damn stupid phone throws at you.
Samsung suck, this is the most bug ridden overpriced tablet of ****e I've ever seen.
I've tried everything to get this tab of crap working, it doesn't, it's a shower of crap. If anyone knows how I get a PC to recognise and connect to this turd of a phone I'll be your webs slave for an hour and write out your emails etc.
Arghhh pleasse help if you can
If its as you say taking it back under the sale of goods act.
Be polite to them and try not to swear at them .
Reads like you have a broken phone out of the box .
jje
you could have simply asked
"How do i connect the phone to the PC to transfer Music files?"
without the need for all that extra colorizing decor around it
first make sure the Drivers are installed
You'll need to either download Samsung KIES, or download Android SDK from Google
reboot the PC / MAC
then connect the phone to the PC or Mac, make sure it's connected directly to the computer and not through an USB HUB
once connected slide down the notification screen, and select the option to MOUNT USB
After that just drag and drop the files music you want to carry on the phone
An even easier alternative
just put the music into a microSD card
then put the microSD card into the phone
Thanks for advice, apologies for my venting earlier just had enough of all the problems this phone throws at me.
Right best I can do is connect the phone to the PC via mass storage, my PC does now recognise the phone after finding the USB drivers finally.
I have drag and dropped music into the download folder of the phone, I've disconnected from USB and the music is on the phone so that's good.
Is this best I can do considering Kies doesn't recognize the phone?
I have hundreds of seperate MP3's that I'd like to make into specific playlists on the phone. Would I be able to do this via mass storage considering Kies doesn't work?
Finally, can someone recommend me a video playing app that plays MKV files if possible? If that's not possible just the best video player app in your opinion as the standard one on the phone kinda sucks.
Thanks in advance for your assistance

[Q] Usb mass storage mode (CM7)

Hi,
I use my galaxy S 16Gb version as multimedia player on my car. for months I've been using cyanogenmod 7.1 rom without problems.
The problem is when I share mi internal card data as "usb mass storage", whole internal memory is shared (documents, images, files, etc...) and when I plug it on usb car audio, can't find music inside all android stuff.
¿Is ther any way to mount only selected folders where I've music to play in the car?
Thanks.
Regards,
Adrián.
Anyone knows any solution please?
Thanks.
My head unit goes straight back where it left off when I plug or unplg it. It took a minute to find it the first time now itbgoes right there.
Playing music from playlist of Galaxy S / S2 USB port of car Head Unit
hi,
I want to know if Galaxy S/S2 can be used to play music from phones playlist on the USB port on the head unit of cars.
I am interested in using galaxy S as any iPhone can be used on USB port / docking to play songs from the playlist. Dont wanna use the phone as a storage device and access folders to play music.
Have tried connecting a friend's Galaxy S2 on USB port but it could access only the folders on the memory. not able to find a way to play the playlist
Any information on this front would be helpful.
Can you guys not just simply navigate the folders with your music in it? My 6 year old deck does this, so I'm sure yours does to. And if you personally can't navigate folders, then... wow.
Yes folders can be navigated to get to the song but its not easy to do while driving.
Further whats the point buying an expensive device that cannot be user-friendly enough when u need it the most.
Playlists make things simple and if these cannot be accessed then its better to stick to pen drive instead or maybe iPhone that does the job pretty well (atleast this one for sure ;-) )
i am hopeful developers can come up with an easy way to take care of this.
if iPhone can why cant android !!!
Honestly, you're probably just doing some wrong. Set the default folder, move your music folder somewhere not 583 folders from the root drive, etc.
Or just use your iPhone if computers scare you.

Empty Playlists

Hey all,
I have looked through this forum and others looking for an answer to my predicament. This issue seems to only be affecting me, but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.
First, I am using the Thrill 4G with the stock ROM.
The SD Card is a PNY 32GB HC class 10.
I keep my music on my external SD Card. I would create multiple playlists. Connect my phone to my computer (I've tried 4 different ones). Add music. Eject the device, turn off USB Mode. At first it started with some of the songs not being in some of the playlists. Sometimes it would even leave just one song (the last one I added in one case). Now if I turn on USB Mode while connected to my computer and eject it and turn off USB Mode... all the playlists are empty.
I've used Power Amp (v1.4 and 2.0), the stock player, Amazons MP3 app and others.
I have done the Factory Data Reset a couple of times.
I have not done the reset with holding the 3D+volume down+whatever to reset it though.
The only other thing I haven't tried is to put the original 8GB card that came with the phone back in and see what happens, but I am pretty sure if I do that my playlists will be empty again when I put the 32gigger back in.
At this point I have work-arounds for getting music and data to my phone (cloud drive), but I am very afraid of connecting the phone to my computer and turning on USB Mode.
Any ideas would be helpful especialy if you have seen this kind of thing before.
Thanks!
I noticed one of my playlists got emptied as well. Just one of the bigger ones though (my luck...) because another one wasn't affected. I don't know what exactly I did to cause it to happen. That never happened to me on any other phone. I'm just using the stock music player.

Believe it or not, Ejecting the drive from my computer before unmounting is what has caused this issue for me. Ive found if I just unmount usb storage from the phone itself and then unplug it all is well. I know the phone warns to Eject via the computer properly first, but its caused me data loss almost everytime Ive done it.

So I took the plunge this morning and did as you suggested. The playlists are empty again, but PowerAmp did put the playlists in the file-based playlists area. So now they are all "artist.m3u8". The good news is that I don't have to recreate them all again. The bad news is the way PowerAmp handles playlists now in v2.0, I also have "artist 1.m3u8" "artist 2.m3u8". Back top good news again, I can live with this. Just gotta figure out the best way to deal with it.
Thanks.
How do you exactly create playlists on your computer? Have you tried some sync software on PC like songbird with MSC and Device addon + anything but stock player (Google Music works for me). I didn’t test that on Thrill 4G yet, but it works perfect on my SGS2
The ones I have now I created in PowerAmp (which now has it's own way of doing playlists in v2.0). I have tried WinAmp, Amazon, the stock player and a couple of others. It used to remove some or all of the songs, but now it just always removes all the songs.
Test: created ACDC playlist in Amazon, plugged phone into computer, usb mode on\off, unplug, no songs... Oops, Spoke too soon. After PA and the system finished it's scaning of the SD card, the songs were there, twice. Adding songs in from another artist that I did not have a playlist for previously shows all the songs in Amazon and now the stock player is showing this artist after it scanned. PowerAmp (of course) does not and now all the playlists that I had created before are populated in Amazon and the stock player. Crazy.
Songbird looks really nice, but no equalizer or pre-amp which is one reason I like PA so much.
Here it is a couple hours later and I haven't even posted this... Well, I give up. I beleive it was an issue with PowerAmp so I am using PlayerPro now. Very nice design. A few extra features. No problem with playlists (knock on wood). Has a 10 band equalizer. Just what the Dr. ordered.
I found a fix to the problem!
Download the disable service app from the playstore, go to Media Storage under System apps and disable the MediaScannerService.
This does, however prevent the device from scanning for new media, so if you want new songs to show up in your device, re-enable the MediaScannerService and reboot.
EDIT: It seems that this app disabled the Media Storage from running on boot. Startup manager fixed it.
this is in fact a good solution!

Recover photos

Does anyone know how to recover deleted photos off the internal storage? I tried 6 different types of recovery software on my windows pc. None of them can see the phone since we don't have a sdcard.

Bumping this because I'm in a similar situation. I accidentally wiped my photos / videos when I activated the phone (clicked through the screens too fast and didn't know it was being formatted!). I can't seem to get the phone to show up as a drive when connecting via USB (just a "mobile device" with an option to drill down into files), which means I can't use tools like Wondershare or R-studio.
Any advice?
Connect to a PC as USB Storage and use a file recovery program to search the phone from the desktop.

the problem is that this phone connects via MTP and not as USB mass storage, so while you can easily move files to/from the device it cannot be recognized as a drive by your computer.
I think I found an answer in this thread, but I haven't yet tried it. Fingers crossed!
I'm in the same position.. although I backed up photos from the DCIM folder, wifey had made folders which apparently save to media folder so I've lost them..
Like other users I have had the same problem.. the internal storage doesn't show up as a drive and therefore not recognised by the software..
Any other suggestions? Don't want to root the phone..

[Q] lost my videos

hello all
I just got back from holiday, I have Samsung galaxy camera gc100, I connected the camera to my pc using USB cable then opened the camera folder then went to DCIM folder then cut the camera folder from there and paste on my desktop (I always do it this way, never had problems) I disconnected the camera as usual. I went to the folder on my desktop and I only saw the photos which were less than 1gb (that's why the moving was very quick) but I did not see my videos at all. I looked in the camera and there was nothing no photos no videos..
I lost my videos somehow.. I tried android recovery software but it won’t recognise the camera as it uses MTP or PTP not mass storage.
Can you please help me to get my videos back?
today is Monday 25th of May first video was taken on 19th (hope that hepls)
Many thanks
I cannot recommend a software that can recover data. However I do know that the data is still there as long as you do not overwrite it. With that in mind, I would stop using your internal storage/sd card immediately.
there are some tools on playstore that i have used you should try looking on some also were the vid on the sd card??
