Nexus 6 MRA58N - Root Help Appreciated - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA forums,
I have recently been interested in the idea of rooting my Nexus 6, could anybody guide me through the steps or at least point me in the right direction. Please keep in mind that I have no previous experience in rooting devices.
Many thanks, rom889.

Hi mate,
First enable developer options and check usb debugging and allow oem unlocking
Go to bootloader and unlock the bootloader (fastboot oem unlock)
Then flash a custom recovery (TWRP) and a custom kernel right after that
Flash a superSU.zip (2.52) file in recovery.
After reboot install BusyBox from Play (for the apps that depend on it)
If you want to flash a custom rom anyway then you can flash it in the custom recovery right away and skip the flash kernel/superSU.zip/BusyBox steps.

keep the setting "OEM unlocking" in developer options enabled. If you do so "device protection" is disabled (which can lock you out from your google account for 72 hours)

And an added tip: unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device (locking it does that too), so make sure to keep a backup of anything you don't want to loose.

Thanks for the replies, I'll get onto this tomorrow. Much appreciated!

First nexus need

I know this is noob question and it may require a lot to answer it. I have always had at&t samsung devices this is my first nexus so rooting, bootloader unlock is new to me on this device. I was hoping someone could give me instruction list on what to do first, next, and so on for getting completely rooted, unlock bootloader, and recovery. If not i understand its a lot to ask. Thanks in advance
All the help you need is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2947452
Here's the order of what I did today:
1. Enable OEM Unlock in Developer Options
2. Unlock bootloader
3. Remove encryption
4. Root
5. Install TWRP

How to root nexus 6 with android N

I have lot of issues with android N(not complaining). I have tried to un enroll in beta program. But i am not getting any update notification(marshmallow update). I have tried to enroll and un enroll but i am not getting any update. I am trying to root the phone. But oem unlock option is greyed out. So i cant unlock bootloader. All possibilities are blocked. Please help me with any posibility.
Thank you!!!
greyed out on N, but always is disabled. just fastboot flash twrp recovery, then flash the latest supersu(v2.71 or newer) in twrp recovery. and thats all.
Strange. A greyed out "OEM unlock" is characteristic of Android N preview 2. Are you sure? Have you checked Settings/About phone? What version does it show?

NPC91K has a greyed out OEM Unlock in Dev Options. He is not making up stuff.
My bad - I misread the "un enroll" - strange syntax. My fault... But really no need for the comment that implies that I think he's lying...
But the unenrol OTA may take time - maybe the OP just hasn't waited long enough. I know that when I tried to unenrol I lost patience because it took so long and finally restored my last M TWRP backup.
why i have to make up for this. i just tried to get help.
edit: and as for the wait, its been a day since i un enrolled in beta program.

i just wanted to make sure, i didnt unlock the bootloader previously. is it not required to unlock bootloader before installing twrp and supersu.
thanks.
Praveen, I'm sorry for the confusion - it's my fault for misunderstanding your original post.
If you are already on Android N second preview and you just want to root the device, then you can install TWRP and root with SuperSU v2.71 - no need for an unlocked bootloader.

How to remove google account on Nexus 6 Nougat ?

I have a problem on my Nexus 6 with android 7
i can't flash downgrade other verison because can't unlock bootloader ,
i can't choise unlock OEM because it have google account ,
everybody can help me !
EDIT: My original comments were related to bypassing Factory Reset Protection, based upon the post's mention of not being able to OEM unlock because of the presence of a Google account. Taking a second reading of it, the situation may not be that cut-and-dried.
Unlocking the bootloader doesn't require a Google account to accomplish. All that matters is being able to get into Developer Options and then using fastboot commands in the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader I do believe can be done with the toggle grayed out in that position, but I believe you would need to sideload an Android 6.0.1 OTA to do it.
Check out this post and see if that helps you out.

FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)

Hello friends
if i want to flash recovery or relock the device it tells me "FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)".
Till the nougat update it wasn't a problem, it worked like described in every guide.
I think my drivers are ok, no errors in device manager and on Marshmallow everything worked fine.
The big problem is my home banking app detects the unlocked bootloader and stops working
so i need to either lock my device or root it.
Here are some data may they will help
At fastboot

Hi MHN.1515,
and thanks for your participation.
this is exactly what i did.
I went back to the stock image "Honor 5C stock ROM images (latest: B102) NEM-L51" from PaulOBrien on MoDaCo. (Thank you for providing the image at this place)
Then i flashed NEM-L51C432B130 from here. (Thanks to Druger too) In this process the bootloader got locked again.
From there i updated to Nougat again, the good things are my phone is locked so i can use my homebanking app
and in developer options i can turn the Unlocking bootloader switch to on or off as is want to root it again one day.
So i hope i described the process well so it can help people with the same problem.
Greetings
Max
Btw. next time i need a better backup strategy, or at least a backup strategy

How to unlock bootloader on Oneplus Nord N100

Hello everybody
I need to know if there is a method to unlock the bootloader for an Oneplus Nord N100 but the BE2015 model (Metro PCS by T-Mobile) because I have not found out how to do it in this Forums
My smartphone is running Android 11 by an update (version 11.0.9.BE82CF).
My goal is to unlock the bootloader in order to install TWRP for a future custon ROM
Thanks to everybody and excuse my English.
Happy 2023
If I understand correctly you have to have the phone for 180(?) days and then "OEM unlock" will be available in developer settings. Then you have to request en unlock token from T-Mobile. (I don't have an american phone, I'm not 100% on the method)
You can get an unstable TWRP for this phone, but it will have very limited functionality. And custom ROMs is basically a forgotten dream on this phone.
Basically what you can do is sideload Magisk through TWRP (you have to use adb sideload command) and some people have installed GSI ROMs.

Really I bought the phone already unlocked, it has the "OEM unlock" function in the "Developer options". Because I didn't buy the phone directly from T-Mobile it's impossible to request the unlock token, so better I continue using it normally until I can buy another phone (I didn't comment but I live in Cuba...)
Thanks anyway for your answer...

I think you might be able to load a European/Global ROM through MSM tools. Then you can use OEM unlock command without token. Rummage through the N100 forums here and you can find guides.

I already searched and the ROMs are for BE2011/BE2013 models and mine is BE2015. My fear is to brick the phone in the process because it has a modified ROM especially for T-Mobile, thanks anyway

If all you want to do is unlock the bootloader I think you can just do this.
** WARNING: YOUR DATA WILL BE WIPED **
1. enable developer options -> oem unlock
2. start adb
3. adb reboot fastboot
4 fastboot oem unlock
if step 4 fails then try
5. fastboot reboot fastboot
6. fastboot oem unlock
The phone will show a screen to confirm unlocking. YOUR DATA WILL BE WIPED.
7. fastboot reboot
The phone should reboot. Unfortunately It will display an annoying message warning the bootloader is unlocked for quite a while before it boots into system from now on.
BTW: I had problems with twrp 3.5 for Nord N100 floating around these forums. Latest is twrp 3.7 which I'm still suspicious of. All of my flashing using TWRP on the N100 has resulted in bricking.
My successful flashes have been with fastboot.
I use TWRP on another phone and it works like a dream.
Hi,
In step 3, do
adb reboot bootloader
This will reboot in the ancient fastboot, not fastbootd. This is in this mode that you can unlock the bootloader.
