You'll have to flash back to stock KK4 (without bootloaders) to restore it. Once on stock, make a backup of your efs folder. Get back up to Captivating and if you get the error again, simply replace your efs folder with your backed up one (with the right permissions) and reboot. Should be good from there.
P.S.: There are plenty of little guides explaining how to recovery from IMEI error/lost. Use the search next time
Thanks for answer, is it safe to modify EFS folder? in case of anything goes wrong how can i restore the original state?
P.S.: Is this a general issue regarding 4.2.2 for this device or a rom cooking error?
Thanks in advance!

It's not a general issue, it randomly happens and lucky for you, it's easily fixable.
Yes, it's safe to replace the efs folder. Know that without it, you won't have signal nor data so you don't wanna mess with it. Going back to stock will flash the correct one on your device (which will fix your IMEI problem) and if you get this issue again, you'll have a backup of the correct efs folder.
Great! Thanks again for your answer!

[need help] no imei after flashing custom rom [xt1805]

Hi, everyone.
I appreciate if anyone can help me restore my IMEI. I can't connect to network after flashing a custom rom. I've already flashed different versions of official firmware via fastboot, twrp flashable stock ROM, and reflashed modem and erased modemst1 and modemst2 to no avail. I've exhausted every possible option without having to send this to a service center.
Thanks and best regards,
Geb

Thanks for your kind intention. I've tried that method before to no avail. I installed all necessary drivers, and followed the steps faithfully. i was able to extract the qcn file, explore the contents of the EFS partition, modify the qcn file and edit it, but the dead end I ran into was the phone itself is write-protected when I send the qcn file back. Can you please share with me your backup of TWRP EFS partition? It's the only thing that can possibly save my phone. Thanks.

By the way, my IMEI is still intact when you use "mfastboot getvar all" command and in the "Barcode" in the bootloader menu. It's just that the IMEI = 0 when I dial *06#. I know it is in there somewhere. Perhaps you can share with me your EFS and Persist partition backup in TWRP?

A guy in Moto G5 Plus (potter) forums tried that, his IMEI is still zero, but he got back his signal. I will just try and see if it will work. I'm not a criminal to use someone's IMEI, I just don't want to give up on my phone just yet. Can you IM me a link of your EFS backup, perhaps?

Using someone else's imei has great potential to cause great problems for you and the person who gives it to you. Never give away your imei or use an imei from another device.

You could have probably got things to work with another persist, but when you used another efs, you really broke it. Buy another phone, and leave it alone this time.

N960F IMEI status NG help

Good day and apologies if I'm doing this incorrectly but I am a complete noob to posting in these forums. I have also tried suggestions on threads with similar issues but to no avail. Some back story to my problem. I purchased a brand new Note 9, have all the papers and proof of purchase. After 3 weeks I had my phone stolen but managed to recover it a few days later. Problem was that the IMEI had been altered. I attempted to restore phone back to original IMEI so I would be able to take out insurance in case of any other incidents. In my quest to do this I managed to completely reset the IMEI to 0s somehow (all I did was flash stock firmware via Odin)
Right now I am at a point where I managed to restore the IMEI using Chimera, phone is rooted with Magisk, I am on Android 10 with latest security patch. I've also somehow managed to get my phone to read a second sim card which really shouldn't be there as I have a single sim variant. Neither sim card slot works. *#0011# shows IMEI status NG and I am unable to pick up any network, nor can I search automatically or manually.
Ideally I would like my phone back to a single sim variant with my original IMEI intact but right now I am at a point where I will be satisfied with just a phone that works. Please help. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Mine turned to unknown. I'm not sure to fix this anymore. Is there a way you can provide me modemst1 or st2? or a Data dump? Thanks in advance.

You can pull it if you have root using root explorer. You can see it under dev > Block > Bootdevice > by-name > This is where you can see modemst1 and modemst2. If you can attach it here it would be great.

When you do a stock flash, use CSC, not Home CSC, so it will be a fresh stock that will be installed. Have you backed up your EFS prior doing all of this. Because me I have not. That is why I am problematic right now.

Unable to locate the modemst files anywhere. Closest to your path that I got was Dev>Block>By-Name>Boot(0 bytes, unable to open)
No EFS backup done and I have flashed the CSC file, still the same issue. I also wanted to try the method posted here https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-how-to-fix-check-drk-imei-issues-t3379516 but can't find a combination file with binary higher than U4.

Phone must be rooted
Twrp recovery installed (optional)
First backup EFS and modem via twrp (optional)
Open root explorer app
Go to EFS folder and Grant root permission
Delete folder imei and file "nv_data.bin.md5"
Then go to download mode
Flash latest full stock rom again
Do data factory reset & wipe cache from stock recovery
Reboot.
By doing this you will delete corrupted imei and nv data and you will get fresh imei and nv_data file with same numbers after flashing stock rom.
Dial *#0011# you will see imei certi PASS and sim will work perfectly
Working method permanently 100% I did this several times on many Samsung phones.
Please do not forget to backup EFS and modem if you have twrp recovery installed just incase.
Cheers

Chimeratool is not a temporary fix, it's a permanent fix. However, you have to pay for the credits to do that. Problem is their website is down for buying license.

I've purchased the 12 month Samsung licence out of desperation. It restores the IMEI but NG status remains. Patching cert fails.
