IF YOU FOLLOW MY STEPS BELOW, YOU WILL MAY LOSE YOUR WARRANTY, KNOX WILL DISPLAY 0x1! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGED DEVICE!
BEFORE STARTING, make sure you have your sistem backup, if somethink goes wrong.
PLEASE, follow the instructions step-by-stop to make sure you succeed!
Now, let's get started:
1. Make sure you have USB Debugging enabled on your phone. You can easily enable it by going into --> Settings, scroll down, till you see "About phone" --> Scroll down till you see "create number". Tap it 7 times and you will enable developer settings. Now go back, scroll down again, and next to "About phone" you will see "Developer Options". Click on them. Make sure they are enabled by looking at top right corner and clicking white dot. Now go down till you see "USB Debugging" Press on it and click "OK" Check if it's enabled, then your phone is prepared.
2. Go ahead and download Odin3 latest (most recent) version into your computer. (Just google "Download Odin" or "Download Odin3".
3. Create a folder on your desktop and name it whatever you wish.
4. Download CF-Autoroot-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.tar.md5 by clicking here and put it into the folder you just created, or just download it and put it into the folder. This is autoroot. It will root your device.
5. Download TWRP Custom Recovery by clicking here and put it into the folder you just created, or just download it and put it into the folder. This is Custom Recovery, it's the best one yet for SM-G901F. (Thank you once again Tkkg1994 for letting us use it and have it on our S5's)
6. Make sure your phone has at least 60% of battery remaining.
7. Power off the phone while holding power button and pressing "Power off" and "OK" and wait for it to turn off.
8. Get the phone into Download mode by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power + Home buttons at once. Wait for yellow think pop up with some text. Then press Volume UP to get into Download mode.
9. Plug your phone into PC with USB cabble. Then Open Odin. If it's not installed, just install it. Then wait for odin to recognise your phone (where it says ID:COM) that little box should turn into blue color. Go to options, make sure that ONLY autoreboot and F. Reset Time are market. Then, next to AP, mark it, and then click it. Select CF-Auto-Root-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.tar.md5 and click "open". Wait for it to load up.
9.1 Hit the start button and watch the magic happen. You can take a look at your phone and see that blue think is charging up fast. Just let him do his thing. After the autoroot is applied, the phone will reboot itself. Remember that only first reboot after flashing somethink new will take longer. Stay calm and chill. Btw you can close odin for now.
10. Enter the pin code if the phone asks it, then turn on wifi. SuperSU message should pop up telling to install SuperSU. Do it (You need Wi-Fi). When the SuperSU is installed, your device should be rooted. (Don't freak out if SuperSU message didn't pop up, you can allways install it from Google Play store). You can go to google play store, download root checker, open it, click on "check root" or something similar, it will ask root acess, accept it. Then it's probably going to show that this device is properly rooted. Gratz! If not, you managed to screw up somewhere :crying:
Now, it's time for Custom recovery. It's much more better than standart recovery, and it will probably be needed in future.
Sooo, step 11. Get your phone into download mode once again (Power off, then Volume down+Power+Home) and then Volume up.
11.1 Connect your phone into your computer with USB cabble.
11.2 Open Odin/Odin3. Again, wait for it to recognise your phone, then click on "options", again, make sure that only Autoreboot and F. Reset Time are market. Then, next to AP, mark it, and then click it. Select g901f-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1130).tar and press "open". Wait for it to load up.
11.3 Hit the start button and once again, watch the magic happen.
12. After succesfully flashing custom recovery, your phone should reboot by itself.
Guess what folks? This is it! You should have your SM-G901F G4+ rooted and have a custom recovery applied! CONGRATULATIONS to you! If you liked the guide, please hit "Thanks" button, it helps a lot And you can also rate this Threat! If you need any help, just post your question down here in the comment section.
Just a thing: I don't suggest installing Cyanogens (CM) Custom ROM. I've had so much trouble with CM 12, with removing it, fixing my phone and fixing google apps untill I totaly reseted it. However you are free to do what you want. If you found better ROM that's working for you and may work for others, be sure to share it right here in the comment section!
Edit: I found out that this guy @Tkkg1994 posted a good guide about how to install a ROM for this device! I tested it myself and it works perfectly! Currently testing other features, but It's the best one yet for SM-G901F G4+ kccat6/kccat6xx, you can check out the guide by clicking here!

Hi! I think in the title it should be "4G+" not "G4+" and thank you for your post!

Oh yeah thanks for correcting it! And no problem m8!

Hi thanks for this guide!
I have just one question. I'm on Android 5.0.2, can I use the same CF auto-root file you used?
On chainfire's website there is only an auto-root file for 4.4.4.

Hey, no problem dude! I have Android 5.0.2 too, I use it atm and it works 100% !

Hi KiprasLT, I tried to install and root my s5 g901F, using your method, but odin simply gives me a message that "all is succeeded, one failed". I've enabled usb debugging, my phone is simfree... I have installed android 5.0.2. Can you please tell me what em I doing wrong? I tried even twp recovery, and it's the same. I thought by rooting I will solve this "failed one" problem, but unfortunately, I didn't have any success.
Thanks in advance

I think I had the same problem, I just made a backup of my files and then I flashed default firmware (official post + download link + guide here) and then on top of it flash CWM Custom recovery, then the phone should reboot, and then you can try to flash the CF-Autoroot again. Please reply back to me if it worked/didn't work.
P.S. Make sure that your phone is Samsung Galaxy S5 G901F 4G+. If it isn't, please reply.

Hi KiprasLT, I already have downloaded the default android(G901FXXU1BOC4_G901FNEE1BOC4_NEE). I checked, my device is SM-G901F Lte+. I don't know if it's the same as 4g or there are some differences, that's why I wrote this message. Please tell me, if it's the
same, or it changes everything.
Wish you all the best

It's a little bit different from the 4G+, but I'm not sure if it changes anythink. You might have to google it yourself or find another guide, becouse I myself don't own the lte+ nor I have any experiance with it.

Hi again. Somehow, I rooted, and installed cw. When I tryed to install the system, it passed, but I've got a bootloop. So I restored the factory firmware. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Yeah I think the cw doesn't work for this phone model, so just stick whit what I've provided, it's working perfectly for me for about half a year and I'm not complaining. If you have any more questions, just reply to me.

I changed the DPI of my S5 Plus to 400 instead of the default 480. Some apps now appear in smaller boxes on the screen. For me the biggest problem is that the camera now has this problem.
In other threads people bring this up for the normal s5. The solution is to use Xposed to set custom Appsettings. But the problem is that Xposed doesn't work (yet) on the S5 plus! So is there any other way to fix the camera app?
Cheers!

How long should darky's rom take to apply?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm trying to install Darky's 9.5 and was following this guide: darky.ficeto[dot]com/community/index.php?threads/guide-installing-darkys-rom-on-2-2-2-2-1-i9000-i9000m-only.1041/ (replace [dot] with a ".")
After step 7, it's been on the "Installing update" screen in recovery mode for the past 25 minutes. Is this normal or did I screw up? What should I do?
Is it done yet??
You mean this bit...
7. Then using the volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select, do the following:
Select 'wipe data/factory reset', and then select 'Yes'. Important! This can take upto 2 minutes, so don't panic.
Select ‘Install zip from sdcard’.
Then select ‘choose zip from sdcard’.
Now navigate to the ROM zip, then select it.
Then choose ‘Yes’.
It can take a while, but usually it gets pass that screen, and gets too the boot bit. Can you give any more specific details, like what it says on your screen...
Btw have you triple checked that you didi everything it said?? You were on froyo before hand right?

Yes I was on Froyo, and I clicked install zip file and selected darkysrom. It then said installing update and was stuck on that for over 40 minutes until I held the power button and it restarted onto the stock froyo.
Just to confirm, we can use the Darkyrom tool from the market right? I noticed the configurator they were talking about isn't available anymore. I probably sound a noob, sorry
Noob! Don't worry about that, I still consider myself a noob...
You want the darkyrom tool by the ficeto
Atleast nothing else went wrong and your back to stock... Is there any particular reason you dont want the latest darky rom?
Anyway just read the process again and make sure you follow it to the letter. If you run into any problems then just come back here and we'll help you best we can.
This link is for 10.2RE and then 10.2EE ontop which is essentially the same thing but comes with all the apps preinstalled if you choose. You can also use the darkyrom tools to configure what you want before you flash. If you miss anything go to the last tab and install it from there. If you want the very latest stable, after flashing 10.2 RE (RE means through odin, EE means zip file flash through the phone) just flash from the link below (sig). The links have instructions in them.
Hi, I have searched the forum for the answer to this question but couldn't find anything definitive so please don't yell!
I am installing Darkyrom, but am a novice when it comes to Android Devices. I have a lot of experience working with Linux/Windows desktops and servers though so you don't have to speak too slowly.
The PIT portion of the Resurrection flash has taken around 15 minutes so far, when I previously flashed a new kernel (a lot smaller, I'll admit) it did not take this long. As the total file size is ~300 mb for this ROM I wouldn't have expected it to take this long, although repartitioning could potentially take a while I guess.
My question is - how long should I expect the PIT/repartition portion take? Has it fuxxd itself somehow?
Well If you have left it i guess over an hour now and it still hasn't completed then your going to have to start again.
Unplug it, this should only put you into soft brick which means you get a phone a triangle and a computer (or without the triangle) all linked by a line when you try turn on the phone.
Go back into download mode (vol down, home, power) and restart. Make sure all kies processes are not running...
Yeah it was definitely rooted. Disconnected and got the soft brick you mentioned.
Rebooted my computer and killed the kies process.
Went through it all again, worked fine this time, just finishing up now. Stumped as to what happened. I am using Odin 1.85 but I wouldn't have thought that would make a difference (walkthrough lists 1.3 but is rather dated so thought it was just a lack of updating).
Thanks for your help
EDIT: By rooted I mean broken sorry. Local slang.

[GT-P31xx] CF-Auto-Root

Check your device model ! Settings -> About device -> Model number. See the third post for exact supported model numbers. If your device is a totally different model, it will not work (may even brick) !
CF-Root is the root for "rooting beginners" and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root is meant to be used in combination with stock Samsung firmwares, and be the quickest and easiest way for your first root.
Donate
CF-Root has been available for many devices and has clocked over 8 million downloads. This is not even counting custom ROMs that already include it. Don't be a leech, buy me a beer (and use the "Thanks" button!). Imagine if every CF-Root user has donated me $1...
What's installed
- SuperSU binary and APK
- Stock recovery
Installation and usage
Flash the CF-Auto-Root package as PDA in ODIN (details on how to do that are in next post), and your device should reboot into a modified recovery (signified by a large red Android logo) and it will install SuperSU for you and restore the stock recovery, and reboot back into Android.
If you don't get to the red Android logo, boot into recovery manually ("adb reboot recovery", or boot while holding Power+VolUp+Home).
Using this root increases your flash counter. You should run Triangle Away (see below) after rooting to reset the counter. Note that if you want to run custom kernels or custom recoveries, your flash counter will be set to 1 at every boot. Either configure Triangle Away to reset the counter at every boot (Play version only) or only reset the counter when you need to go into warranty.
Did you see the red Android logo during rooting, but SuperSU does not appear? This may sometimes occur due to left-over files and settings, however, you can usually install SuperSU from Google Play at this stage and it'll just work.
Not included - Triangle Away
Triangle Away can be used to reset the flash counter after installing CF-Root. The flash counter keeps track of how many custom firmwares you have flashed, as this voids warranty. (No idea what this about ? Read up on it, you will want to use this !)
Not included - adbd Insecure
As this CF-Root does not include a custom kernel, adb shell does not have root access by default (you can still get it by typing su inside the shell), nor is adb remount supported, nor will adb push and adb pull work on system files. adbd Insecure can be used to remedy this situation. (No idea what this is about ? Don't worry about it !)

ODIN Installation (detailed)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached Odin3-vX.X.zip file
- Download and unzip the CF-Auto-Root-....zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar.md5 file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
- NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, hold VolUp+Power (for several seconds) to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.
New to Samsung? Unfamiliar with Odin? Think all the above is a hassle? Get used to it. It's very simple, and us Samsung folk use Odin (or Mobile ODIN ) for everything! It's so very very convenient once you get used to it. Notice the 30 second comment above? For experienced users, the entire process indeed takes only 30 seconds!
You may now optionally want to install and run Triangle Away to reset the flash counter.

Do you have a blue progress bar on screen below the Android ?
If it's full, just reboot the phone.
45 min, may have a problem? HELP!
Just reboot your phone. Pull the battery, hold power button, whichever works. Then see what happens.
DONT PANIC. Nothing bad has happened.

Not the tab, but ODIN had a bunch in the lower left. succeed 0/failure 0 and the last was please wait.
I think it's a driver problem as I did root something else a few weeks ago? But there was a SAMSUNG driver in device manager with no exclamations.
Was a driver problem in win7 64b. Rooted now and Ti backup works great. Thanks a bunch.

[RECOVERY][ROOT] Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini LTE (GT-I9195)

WARNING! ONLY USE THIS ON THE GT-I9195 MODEL!
Hello all S4 Mini owners!
I'm happy to finally release ClockworkMod recovery and an insecure kernel for the GT-I9195. With these two installed on your device, obtaining root is easy.
Attached to this post is the necessary files needed for this task. Download the following files:
Odin_v3.09.zip (if you don't have it already)
recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.1-serranoltexx.tar.zip
S4Mini_RootKit_v2.zip (contains SuperSU v1.89 and BusyBox v1.21.1) ONLY FOR STOCK ROM! NOT FOR CM OR OTHER AOSP BASED ROMS!
Extract recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.1-serranoltexx.tar.zip file to your computer.
The procedure is as:
Copy the " S4Mini_RootKit_v2.zip" to your device SD card.
Turn off the phone.
Press and hold home, volume down and power. Download screen should appear.
Connect USB cable, and press volume up.
Start Odin, uncheck "F. Reset Time", and then click AP button.
Select "recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.1-serranoltexx.tar.md5" file that you previously extracted, and press Start button. The phone will reboot when finished.
After the phone resets (it vibrates) IMMEDIATELY hold volume up and home buttons to boot into recovery mode.
Select the option to install the ZIP file you have previously copied to your device and begin flashing it.
After flashing using CWM, reboot into system and enjoy your rooted device.
Optional: Flash GT-I9195_Kernel_v1.zip (Only for Android 4.2.2, not KitKat) to use a custom stock kernel, which might fix battery drain for some.
Kernel changelog: https://github.com/arco/android_kernel_samsung_msm8930-common/commits/stock
If you get warnings about applications doing not permitted actions, delete the following files from system/app, or let SuperSU fix it for you.
KNOXAgent.apk
KNOXStore.apk
ContainerAgent.apk

Quick question before I root it, what do you mean by "insecure"? Certainly not shy, but as in unstable or as in unsafe?

Insecure is needed for rooting, not unsafe or unstable. As far as I know, it removes some security-thingies added by Samsung. For normal use, this shouldn't make a difference.
Correct me if I'm wrong please

An insecure kernel has disabled the root prevention checks that Samsung added. Other than that it's the same as stock kernel. Although in this kernel I also made two minor changes to allow apps to read the kernel log and the full logcat.

No, all your stuff will still be there.
Thanks for the effort! I'm building a similar package for the I9192 (the dual sim variant, a.k.a "serranods") and I was wondering if you made any serious changes to the kernel except the usual ramdisk rooting changes (ro.secure, adbd binary, su binary etc.)
I'm going to release an insecured kernel based on the dual sim stock kernel, but I'm probably going to reuse the recovery. I expect the two platforms to be very similar in terms of recovery support (drivers, libraries, recovery kernel, partition layout etc.) and I know you can't make any implicit or explicit claims that the recovery won't brick any another model or variant than the one you made the release for. However, I expect no issues whatsoever as the hardware is identical except the modem, so I'll let you guys know.
Cheers,
C.

I follow the first steps but I always get stuck at the beginning. I only get a screen with "downloading.... Do not turn off target!!" it does not matter what buttons I push. On top it says "odin mode" in red, some product info and then it says "Wrtie protection: Enable".
Any suggestions?
@charliebigpot: That's normal. When that screen appears, connect your device and start ODIN. Then, in ODIN, your device should be detected and you can start flashing. If you still need more info, please search the forum. In any event, you don't have a problem (yet)...
Cheers,
C.
Thank You for the hard work, it work perfectly for me.
I was able to restore my Angry Birds Stars wars Backup which is a life saver for me .
One little thing, I keep getting a notification that says :
"Device Information :
The device as detected an application attempting unpermitted actions. To protect your device, it is recommended you reboot."
So I hit reboot and it reboot in "recovery mode" instead of normal boot.
So I hit reboot in recovery mode and get back on the system, but the notification comes back a few minutes later.
Can somone help me fix that ?
Frem.
PS : The only actions I did after rooting is installing "supersuer" app, then using "ES file explorer" activate root access, to copy angry birds backup, then deactivate "ES file explorer" root access
dsixda's Android Kitchen files
THANKS MATE FOR GREAT JOB!
Now, if some1 can produce dsixda's Android Kitchen files for i9195, it would be awesome!

Delete KNOX apps (containing KNOX in their name), I think there are 3 of them, in system/apps, that would do it. You can use ES file explorer of course with root permissions

One last question a friend of mine told me that "rooting my phone" will stop it from getting the samsung "official updates".
Is that true ?
If it is true, is there a easy way around it like rooting it back ?
Thanks again for the hard work arco68.

not good....

I think I might have done it, this time. I installed RebelROM on my phone, as I was curious if it would be more battery friendly. I decided that it wasn't, and went to reboot into recovery to reinstall the nandroid I had made earlier in the afternoon. Oops. My only available recovery was CWM, not TWRP. No problem, I thought, I will just reinstall with CWM. Give me a chance to learn the new recovery, I thought. But, CWM wasn't seeing my external SD card, so I went back and forth to move the nandroid I had made to the internal SD, so CWM could see it. I also installed TWRP to the internal SD, as CWM was proving to be a pain. Unfortunately, TWRP wasn't able to access my internal SD, where the nandroid was now stored, so I tried to recover into an older nandroid. Now, though, the phone won't boot at all, past the screen that describes the phone as an Exhibit from T-Mobile. I can't boot back into recovery. I can't access the drives through the USB cord, either. Any suggestions? Skyukillparanormal has disappeared. Ironically, I'm up in his neck of the woods. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Pull the battery. After replacing, push down the power button and volume up at the same time. Hole them down for a few seconds. CWM should reappear. Either restore your recovery if it was CWM created or reflash the ROM.

Unfortunately, AD, CWM is not reappearing. I had been holding down the power and volume down keys to no avail. Now I know why. It seems, though, that the power/volume up combo has the same (lack of) effect. Am I screwed?

If that isn't working there are more serious problems. Try 2 or 3 times as it doesn't always work the first time. You can try ODIN but it's for advanced users. If you don't know how to use it probably not the best option. I hope you didn't brick your recovery because in that case that's the only option that will save you.

Well soon that will be the case but not yet! Anyway here the link to get ODIN: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2012979&d=1370213005
Instructions here:
2. With your phone powered off, go into the Download (or Odin) mode by pressing the volume down and power buttons. When the screen with the exclamation mark appears, select the volume up button. You should now be in download mode.
3. Connect your Galaxy Exhibit to your PC.
3. Open Odin Multi Downloader v4.43.exe on your PC.
4. click on the OPS-Button and navigate to the folder with the extracted files and select Ancora.ops file.
5. Select the options: One Package, Protect OPS. I did not touch the Auto Reboot, Reset Time options.
6.Click on the One Package-Button and select the md5 file in the extracted folder.
7. Click on the Start button. The flashing process took around 5 minutes for me, at which point the phone rebooted into recovery mode to finish the process. I selected reboot the system.

Thank you for the link, but I can already tell that there will be a problem with that solution, as well. I tried over and over to press the power volume down button. I never saw a screen with an exclamation point. I never see anything until I release both buttons, at which point it starts up normally, but like I said, freezes before the rom loads, or before loading any recovery. There seems to be no difference if I hold down the vol up or the vol down button.

Just like CWM, it can take a few tries. Yeah I know that gets old but sometimes it's taken me 4 or 5 attempts before I can get the phone into download mode. Don't give up until you're sure there is nothing to be done. It really just sounds like a soft brick to me.
Maybe if all else fails just say the hell with it, and if you can, get the Galaxy Light on HSN ($150). They'll let you pay in installments if you can't/don't want to pay all at once. You won't be able to root it just yet since it's new, but man maybe it's for the best. At least you will not be able to brick that phone! It has JB on it anyway.

Soft brick is what I was thinking, too.
Man, that Galaxy Light is perfect! I have been looking for exactly that phone for a while. When did it come out? And paying in installments makes it even better. Plus, I've now learned my lesson. When I do root that phone, I will be more careful about my flashaholic tendencies. If I get it, that is. We'll have to see.

Came out in just the past couple of months. The hardware is so much better than the Exhibit. Again keep in mind, there presently is no way to root it and there are no custom ROMs right now. Activity on XDA for this device has been pretty light, only downside to this phone and the main reason I passed on it.

I understand about there being no xda activity. That's a consideration. With 8 GB of internal storage _plus_ a removable SD card, though, I can't see bloatware being a problem for a bit. By then, the Slimroms guys will have gotten ahold of it and put together something, I am sure. Can I live with stock jb? Can I even pick this up? Hmmmmmm...... Food for thought.

You should be able to restore the nandroid. Since you have CWM working again, you can always do a full wipe & flash the ROM again if that doesn't work.

I got everything going to the point where I was to select the md5 file. There was no md5 file in the Odin folder I downloaded and extracted. Where should I look for the md5 file to restart the phone? It also seems that ODIN doesn't recognize that the phone is connected. The phone says it's in ODIN mode, but the program isn't showing any indication that the phone is connected. Thanks.

Wow, then that means you don't have the Samsung drivers installed. This is getting more complicated. You'll have to have the drivers installed for this device. Unfortunately it might be too late because after you get them installed to your PC, you have to connect your phone and it would have to be in a usable state for the drivers to finish installing if I remember correctly.
Anyay you can still try it, here's the drivers you need: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T679DBBTMB?
it sure is nice being able to reach out and having people give assistance. thanks guys.

Actually, all is not lost. The drivers have been located and installed and the phone is now detected. Exactly which boxes are checked on the ODIN panel? You had mentioned that you didn't touch two of them (Protect OPS and Reset Time, I believe), but those were already selected when the program started. Right now, all 4 options are selected. Is the CWM .tar file all you need for the One Package link, or is there something else?

That's what the community should be all about. If I need something I'd hope someone would do the same for me and usually they do.

edit-never mind. it's fine. it's doing its thing....
It says "pass" and the 5 min timer is done, but the phone has not rebooted. Is there something else I need to do? Auto-reboot is selected, but it doesn't seem to be booting. Thanks.

How to root Lenovo k3 note?

Hello,
Sorry if this question is asked before, I did search actually in the forum, but couldn't find anything clear.
I got a lenovo k3 note, but it has some annoying apps installed which may be infected.
Apps such:
I love wallpaper
Caller ID
Twitter
MaxxAudio
Clean Master
DU battery saver
Browser (it seems there are two installed)
probably more....
All these apps are installed in the system so they can not be uninstalled directly. so rooting is a must in this case I guess (i'm newbie in these things)
So the main question is how can this phone be rooted?
Thanks in advance.
Lenovo K3 Note
I am also facing same problem. Any help?
It is wired that I can not disable any pre-installed app. Is this an issue in Android 5.0? Can someone please help?
It is easy to root this wonderful smartphone :
1/ Go here and download the CWM recovery v6.0.5.1 : http://pan.baidu.com/s/1mguuByg
2/ Flash it with SPFlashTool. Important : you must to check the option "DA DL All with Checksum" otherwise it will not boot!
3/ root : reboot to CWM recovery and install the supersu update zip : https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
4/ Gapps: reboot to CWM recovery and install google gapps 5.0 minimal : http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-google-apps-minimal-edition-t2943330
Here where you can find the last official roms : http://www.vibeui.com/vibeui/rom?key=k3 note
After flashing an official rom, you have to redo all those steps.
I don't think the phone will be rooted in that way. I did red that before. I do have access to CWM, in Chinese language unfortunately, but the phone is not rooted.
I root it this way many times
The recovery I give you is in English and china, you must choose your language at the beginning.

Hi,
I rooted my Lenovo K3 Note just yesterday (received it on tuesday) and had the same problem (Twitter + User Experience with viruses [checked with ESET] ).
This topic helped me quite a lot, but I still had some trouble flashing the phone.
If it can help you, here is a link to what I did : chinasmartphonereview.com/lenovo-lemo-k3-note-recovery-google-service/
Since I had to tweak the process a bit, here is what I did :
Download MT6752 Flash Tool and MT6752 USB Driver (see link above)
Install USB Driver and reboot PC (just to be sure)
Unzip Flash tool and choose flash_tool.exe
Run Flash Tool, Option – Download – “DA DL All with Checksum” must be ticked on
Click Scatter-loading-Choose MT6752_Scatter (CWM recovery folder)
Tick the Recovery (if it's not already ticked)
Turn off Phone and Remove Battery, Remove SD-Card, SIM Card
Plug-in USB Cable to PC (USB Port) – Phone to PC
Press POWER for a couple of seconds
Choose Download and Click Download (Flash tool)
Reinsert Battery
If Unsuccessful (Red Bar) – repeat from step Turn off Phone and Remove Battery, Remove SD-Card, SIM Card
Once it was done, I installed SuperSU and an app to remove those troublesome viruses (for example : "Easy Uninstaller" on the play store).
Hope it helps...
Still, many thanks to dreambo

I had to try several times in order to successfully do it.
I don't know if it changes anything but, did you activate the "USB Debugging" ? I activated it on my last try...
My main problem was linked to the drivers : my computer had a hard time using the right ones (always checking Windows Update, had to disable it).
When it worked, I just pressed the power button, released it, inserted the battery and clicked "Download" in the next 5 sec. My computer used the right drivers, everything went smoothly (CMW installed in less than 5 sec with a big green symbol that I was REALLY happy to see).
If it doesn't trigger in the first 10sec, it failed : you can unplug your USB, shutdown your phone, remove the battery and repeat the process (press the power button, release it, plug the USB cable, insert battery, press Download).
Just keep an eye on your drivers to make sure Windows is using the ones you have installed...
Hope it helps...

Done.
Sorry for asking what has already been asked, but just to clarify (because I have followed the above steps),
Do I insert the battery after I press download, or after it's finished? Neither seems to work. I insert the battery after pressing download, and get the battery meter showing on the screen and some chinese writing. If I press the screen, the phone boots up?
Does quick/fast boot need to be turned off?
How do I tell the flash program which drivers to use?
If I'm waiting a few minutes after each try, is that long enough?
EDIT: Got it working on a different PC. Having the same issue as XPSrobs now. Can't install Superuser and root check is saying it's not rooted, however CWM is installed.
EDIT: re-read the post from dreambo on the first page:

It seems that you have not install the drivers (VCOM drivers, it is special drivers that works only with SPFlashTool).
The drivers is the step the more important and more difficult
The drivers enter in action only if, the phone is completely off and then we plug it to the USB port.
Some times we have to do exactly those steps :
0- install correctly the drivers, if not already done.
1- unplug the phone from USB
2- turn completely off the phone
3- extract the battery from the phone (for me and my lenovo k3 note this step is not necessary, no need also to extract SIM or SDCARD)
4- Press the download button in SPFlashTool
5- plug the phone to USB
6- place the battery in the phone.
Immediately after this last step, the phone is detected by SPFlashTool, even if it is turned off !
It must always works, if not it's a drivers issue! (there is many tutorials to install drivers for SPFlashTool)
not forget also to get the latest version off SPFlashTool, because the MT6752 is a recent SOC : see here http://mtk2000.ucoz.ru/load/soft/soft_mtk/sp_flash_tool/5-1-0-14
It does seem to have worked now, the program was doing stuff and I got a message with 'download succeeded' and a big green checkmark.
However, it still doesn't seem to be rooted, nor can I find a way to boot into recovery. I'm probably being a big blithering idiot, but I can't find any mistakes I made and I did all the described steps.
Any suggestions?
anyone try this guide? it looks much simpler
http://www.how-to-root.club/2015/04/lenovo-k3-note-7147.html
or someon try "RootGenius.exe" app ? it worked for me on coolpad f1 and on some other chinese phones.

I agree, it doesn't look very legit.
I'm still having no luck using the method on here. I think Dreambo is right, and that I may just have an issue with drivers, although I can't quite figure out what I'm missing.
