MX Player not working with MM? - X Style (Pure) Themes and Apps

Just updated to MM, and found that when I clicked a video file (.avi or .mp4) from a networked drive (via ES Explorer), the google video player is launched even though I have MX player installed. There is no option to open it with MX Player. On LP, it used to launch MX Player. Any recommendations?

Could be an issue with es explorer. Everything I've tried opening with root explorer has given me the option of what to use.
Something else to try. The default app may be set to the video player. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling mx player to see if that'll trigger the picker.

Just clear the default on your Google video player.

I will add that I had to turn hardware+ mode off on mx player. With it on I was getting a lot of speaker popping and crackling even if I wasn't over the max volume.

Are you using the released version or the latest beta? I believe the beta has some specific M fixes.

Dlna /upnp setup help?

I am trying to play video over the network. I have done this on my phone but I just cannot get it working on the TouchPad.
My problem is that whatever client I use, skifta, bubbleupnp, upnplay, they all use the stock android video player. I have installed several other video players such as mobo, vlc, and mx. Unfortunately I cannot get any of the Dona/upnp apps to use them. This wasn't an issue on gingerbread on my phone, but on the TouchPad I just cannot get it to use anything but the default player.
I have tried default app manager and cleared any defaults of any type that were set, set the defaults the way I wanted, etc, but it is like the apps simply do not see that any video player but the default exists.
EDIT: I AM NOT ASKING ABOUT HD VIDEO SUPPORT AND I UNDERSTAND SOME VIDEO PLAYERS MAY NOT WORK BUT SOME SHOULD. I AM NOT ASKING ABOUT HD VIDEO SUPPORT!!
the issue *again*, in a nutshell: I cannot CHANGE the default video player. There is no entry in Settings->Apps to "clear defaults" on, and it never prompts me for which video player to use even after installing new ones. Thus, I cannot use any 3rd party video player since IT NEVER PROMPTS ME FOR WHICH ONE TO USE.
Any advice or help?

HD video doesn't work yet in any of the ICS versions on the Touchpad. You can always boot into webOS to watch videos until they get in working in CM9. Otherwise you'd have the use the ACMEUnistaller to remove CM9 and re-install CM7.

Umm, I believe you are missing the point.... I'm not asking about HD video...
as I understand it, there ARE media players that will play video in cm9... it just won't let me *select* any of them...
Not only that, but WebOS does NOT support DLNA or UPNP which is what I'm trying to use. There is ONE app in the HP web store for it, but it 1) doesn't support most video formats, and 2) won't even recognize my UPNP/DLNA server which works perfectly fine with my phone, and is visible to cm9 also.

Your phone is NOT running an alpha version of ICS. NOBODY is at the point of "fixing" specific issues with individual apps in CM9. Have you even tried using CM7?
BTW, the DLNA players you mention all use their own "media player" to render content. None of them "connect" to other video players or music players in Android. If you can't "play" your "stuff" using BubbleUPnP in CM9 it IS most likely because of the HD video problem. I just tried Bubble in CM7 and it works fine using "Local Renderer". Which is the ONLY renderer available.

Actually, no, at least some of them will use an external media player and simply start the stream.
Whatever, obviously no help here.
I use es file explorer and when I click the video it buffers in Mx video player I think. Anything less than 1500 kbps plays fine for me.

My problem is that at some point I accidentally set the built-in player to default. So I have to open mx-player manually and play files that way. This obviously does not work when you're using a UPNP app to pass a video stream to the player. Unfortunately, it's passing to the built-in player.
It looks like either ICS, or AOKP one has an "issue" with the fact that there's no place to change this default once set. I've gone through EVERY SINGLE APP listed in the application manager and cleared defaults, and it is still not prompting for a new default media player.
Looks like the only solution for this is a reset, which is a lot of overkill...
Try deleting the internal video player or freezing it with titanium backup and then it might ask you again which video player to use.

I would do so if I knew which app it was hiding under. There's no app called "Media Player" or "Video Player"... It has the same icon as the gallery, so I'm wondering if it's hiding in there...

If you open /Settings/Applications/Running Services and all you see is the app itself and the Android UPnP service, and no video player, it is because, like I said to begin with, the app is doing its own rendering and NOT using any "default video player". You can try anything you like and it isn't going to work until you un-install ICS and install a GingerBread based version of Android. Bubble works fine in CM7 without using any external video player.

However, UPNPlay does NOT have an internal video player. Pretty sure Bubble doesn't, but I know for a *fact* UPNPlay doesn't. Again, if I open the files directly _they do play_. The issue is NOT that video files won't play - it is that the default video player cannot seem to be changed.

And I "know for a fact" that Bubble DOES have an "internal video player". And if UPNPlay doesn't have one, then the one it is using will show under /Settings/Applications/Running Services. If there is no video player running then the "FACT" is that you are wrong and it DOES have its own in Android. It may be a different thing in Windows, but that isn't relevant to this discussion. The simple reason that the "default video player" can't be changed is that there is no such animal. You can't change what doesn't exist.
edit: I just checked the settings for UPNPlay and it has settings for third party *Audio* players but NOT for third party video. I guess some people's "facts" are different from others.

Best Video Player for Huawei X6 & FBO variants ??

Please recommend a video player + Version that we can play .mp4 with H264 codecs and .flv files on our FBO devices smoothly.

You where on to something here
Spent half the day installing uninstalling various players and their versions.
Mobo player lagged on .flv files
Rockplayer lagged on large .flv or couldnt use hardware encoding.
MX Player latest version kept giving me FC
then i read about MX Player v1.5 being stable and compatible for CM7 so i gave it a try... it works FLAWLESS!! and it even Hardware Encodes when it needs which none of the others did.
thx to those that recommended.

nope still cant play this one file i have, its a 1080p 140mb MP4 .flv music video... i mean it plays but is laggy as hell.
BUZZ player is good, but still not as good as the MX Player v1.5
thanks tho
I use a combo of bsplayer lite and mx player. Best of all, they're both free! Grab em, on the play store. install the arm v7 codecs if you're having trouble playing files.
I like to use MX player. easy to navigate to fast foward, to increase/decrease volume while driving. hehe
Have You Tried QQPlayer??
Guy's Have you tried "Dice player" it's also very good player
I still recommend you Mobo player.. Don't use "Mobo Player Pro"..
Go to settings and set it to default "Soft Decoding"..
I myself played many .flv files of more than 1GB data......
Because I love watching movies on our device...

I tried this yesterday, the latest pro version 2.04... omg every .flv file i tried to play the screen went crazy with different colors and i couldnt see the video.
edit.. this only happened while using the ICS Codename Rom, once i put MacDragon Rom back on the App played all files nicely. It even switched to HW encode
bs player is good player..it performs better than rockplayer.those formats which are not supported by the stock player ar played with softwaredecoding.thats why at higher resulutions those players can not give good performance.i've tried h.264 hd file it only gives 20 to 21fps..but the mp4 version gives 31fps..only reason is hardware decoding instade of s/d..by the way rockplayer can play any format..

Unsupported Audio Codec?

Anyone having issues playing movies where there's no sound? Every time I open a movie that's on my SDCard, I get an error message saying "Unsupported Audio Codec." However, the video plays fine.
Not sure if it's a Note 3 issue or not but when I had the Galaxy S4, the movies played fine.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Stock. I've never had a problem with the stock player but worst case scenario I can give MX a try.
Definitely seems to be a difference from the stock video player on the Note 2. My pirated mkv files with dolby 5.1 tracks indicate "unsupported audio codec" on my new Note 3 but played fine on my Note 2.
Fortunately, the files can still be served to my Sammy TV from the Note 3 and my surround receiver still gets the Dolby bits to decode.
Guess I'll use a different player for playing them on-device.

Was shocked to find that audio in regular Divx and mkv files don't even play on the Note 3, while they played fine on the Note 2. That was one of the most important features for me, god damnit.
The reason most, if not all, aftermarket players suck is they have BT audio lag. Only the stock apps have ever worked flawlessly for me. The video app on the Note 2 was fantastic.
---------- Post added at 04:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:44 PM ----------
Here's the problem:
Note 3: MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB/WB, FLAC, WAV, Vorbis
Note 2: MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB/WB, FLAC, WAV, MIDI, OGG, AC-3
See AC3 support in the Note 3? Neither do I. It's a very popular audio codec, and Samsung (or Qualcomm) decided we didn't need it. Even the Nexus 4 supports AC3. This is god damn infuriating.
---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:00 PM ----------
AT&T is even falsely advertising it with AC3 support: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/samsung/galaxy-note-3-jet-black.html.
Same problem here. Very disappointed. Coming from the N2, and the Optimus G pro, both stock players played all my files with no issues.
The N3 player seems very stripped. I also have Mx player, but that does not support DLNA, which is very important to me.

sucks that the onboard player is so stripped down compared to the N2.
I am also disappointed in the stock player's lack of support for ac3, but I've discovered it can still be used as a source server to play mkv files on my phone to my Samsung TV and surround sound receiver.
While the audio track cannot be rendered by the player on-device, the Dolby bits are correctly sent to and seen by the Samsung TV via the wireless connection to my phone and then passed to the receiver by the TV.
This was my primary use case for the player software on my N2, so I'm not as bummed by this loss as some others may be.
I feel sure that somewhere some Samsung engineer will read this post and add "Break Dolby pass-through" to the to-do list for the next N3 software update.

Work around for now...
Download mx player from play store. Open mx player and go to settings/ decoder and scroll to the bottom and download custom codec that is recommended. Use a file manager like root explorer and extract the custom codec. Then go back to mx player settings/ decoder scroll to the bottom and install the custom codec then set mx player to use s/w decoder (local) and s/w audio then start the movie over and there ya go. Took me a minute to figure out but at least I can watch my movies with sound again. Good luck

I've always used BS Player. Excellent for network drives and also you can offset the audio track, which is very useful for out of sync audio, which can sometimes happen with a Bluetooth headset or a bad rip
I didn't play too many movies but I don't remember even one that VLC wasn't able to play yet, so it's my player of choice. I know Samsung doesn't have AC3 sound codec included, so any player relying on internal codecs won't work with AC3, but VLC does. If you load the movie onto computer, you can find out what codecs it uses and maybe you can install those as separate package, but as I said IMO VLC is probably the best.
VLC is all you need. I use it on both my phone and computer. It plays everything you throw at it.
