[GUIDE] How to install P990 O2x custom ROMs in SU660 O2x - THREAD FOR NEW MEMBERS

How to install P990 custom roms on SU660.
8/26/12 Edit: This guide is now cross-posted and maintained at the Optimus 2x SU660 Android Development section. I removed the duplicate info here since that required me to update both pages with every edits and additions to the guide. Kindly go there for the full version of the guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850967 I'm keeping this thread here for the SU660 users who are new to the XDA and do not have enough posts to ask questions in the dev section yet.
For the SU660 users out there, I hope my guide can help give you the opportunity to test more ROMs that many awesome developers are developing here at XDA. Feel free to ask here if you need help, and I'll be glad to do so if I can!
Thanks for your guide!
But my device has hard key (home key), and how can I use Harsh Kernel?
Hehe nice, I remember this guide from here.
I think you should cross-post it in the Optimus 2x SU660 Android Development section, I will then ask a mod to sticky it because it is something that's asked a lot and really usefull information! :good:

You can install and use the Harsh kernel but yes indeed, you will sacrifice the use of the home key.
So that means it requires you to have a ROM that supports soft key navigation.
That is how my ParanoidAndroid and Harsh Kernel combination is set up. I also have successfully used owain94's Domination #80 and Harsh Kernel combination in the past. After the first boot, be sure to go to settings to turn on the soft key navigations as the first thing to do and you'll be good to go.

Thanks tonyp for the great suggestion.
For those out there who do not have enough post over at the SU660 Dev section, feel free to write here.
FYI....
I updated the first post with a subsection that lists the p990 custom ROMs that have soft-key navigation, which would allow you to use p990 kernels on the su660 O2x phones.
If there are others that I'm not aware of that should be included, kindly reply and I'll be happy to update the post. Thanks!

Hi there and welcome to XDA.
Unfortunately that's not how this place works. XDA is about sharing and not about getting paid and making an income (see forum rule #8).
If you do not want to freely share your work according to our rules (also see under section #12 of the forum rules), XDA is unfortunately not the place for your project.
Despite this, I hope you'll be contributing to our community.
Best regards
