I need help! I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone. But "Rooting stat Unknown"
Well now I know that I made a big mistake. I guess that sony made a hard brick in my phone. I am not sure if i will be able to unlock my bootloader again and I need information about it. I lost my DRM Keys and I can't take pictures, so It's driving me crazy.
Can I use a back up of DRM Keys from another locked Z3+?

You can't use drm keys from another phone. Plus you need root to backup your keys. And you cannot root z3+ without unlocking the bootloader first. Ive unlocked my bootloader. I have zero issues. Everything works great. What exactly did you do?

Not is my case. I rooted and later I touched "My xperia protection" and the phone didn't respond any more. Later I understood that it was a big mistake. I had to restore my phone with sony companion and now I don't have unlocked my phone and I can't root it , again. And also I lost all my DRM keys, so my camera is a disaster. I'm not sure about if I could restore the original state of the phone, locked but with the posiblity of unlocked again. My rooting status is Unknown.

Why not get the key? It won't make any difference if you get the key or you unlock the BL without the key. Once you unlock the BL you will lose the DRM keys and BE2. Sony will be able to tell you unlocked the BL even if they don't have a record of you obtaining the unlock key.
Should've also posted this in the Q&A thread.

i see, so no way of leaving no traces that we have unlocked the bootloader before? i thought that they won't be able to know it if we didn't obtain the key from them
my main concern is the warranty, especially i've extended my warranty for an extra 2 years
p.s. can the mod please move it to the Q&A thread please? thanks

There's no way to hide it. Even if you manage to unlock the bootloader without the keys not having the DRM keys and BE2 is the proof that the BL was unlocked. Relocking it won't get the DRM keys back, they are gone for good.

Don't worry... They will not check for missing/present DRM keys, etc. So long as you flash to a stock ROM before sending it in, they will not even bother checking for unlocked bootloader.

can someone please confirm the above statement for me?
the only reason i haven't unlocked my BL is the fear from voiding my warranty in case of something goes bad... (SOD etc.)

You should read this
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
They say, unlocking may void your warranty.
So their is a chance you can unlock without voiding it.
Just make sure you read there terms carefully before unlocking

You cannot be 100% sure about that. They MAY still check for DRM keys.

Yes but there's always a chance of voiding it. A chance that if the OP wants to take.
thanks guys for the feedback, will take it into consideration of the risk involved before i unlock my bootloader

o.k, so it's not a 100% safe I see.
is there any method (maybe in the future) of unlocking BL without loosing those keys?
afaik, since those keys are software-based and not hard-coded such as IMEI, perhaps there is a way to back them up to PC/SDCARD and 'regenerate' them once the unlocking process has finished?
I don't care of doing some research myself and share my conclusions here, can someone please provide a method of listing those DRM keys as a start point? I mean, SONY must has a way of regenerate those keys on unlocked BL devices if they want to, right?

At this stage no one has found a way to get the DRM keys back. Sony could get the keys back but they won't fix the device under warranty. My guess is that it's embedded in the BL somehow. And unlocking it somehow the keys are deleted. It could be specific keys as well (not 100% sure) for each device.

When you meant they wont fix the device under warantee.. That be after the DRM keys are redone and took as the repair is final. Or when sending it in for DRM recovery is also chargeable?
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41763438 Backup TA partition and unlock bootloader. If you want DRM keys back, restore TA. This will also relock bootloader. It will appear as if bootloader was never unlocked.

Is there a way to root the Z1 Compact without losing what you do when you unlock the bootloader?

The Compact roll out a week ago, at the moment there is no way to have Root or anything, the developers are working on it so stay tuned on XDA.

Not really true though, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620794
But since there's no older firmware for the Compact you won't be able to backup the TA.
Since that thread was even posted before the launch of the compact, I thought it might be worth asking since alot can happen in a week....

I said there is no root ans still no root yet, that is just Recovery and will be a Root soon for Unlocked Bootlader but at the moment there is nothing for Locked Bootlader.
You have to wait.

Unlocking bootlader
Sorry for being a complete noon when it comes to rooting and bootloader and backups... and what not.
What exactly is at stake here? Just got my Z1 Compact today and learning from my previous devices, N7 and LG G2 (and mistakes) i kind of wanted to unlock the bootloader as soon as possible. Now i am reading all this about TA backup and loosing DRM , and feel both lost and concerned.
Should I bother with the unlock or rather wait until developers has gotten a bit further on this? Planning to use this device as a second phone for rough weather's and hopefully won't fill it up with to much DRM protected stuff (guessing that DRM is mainly for stuff bought through Sony?) so maybe I will be fine doing it later.
Any advice or suggestions are very welcome.
Cheers.

If you Unlock Bootlader you will lost your Warranty and DRM keys and like on Z1 you should lost X-Reality, Bionz Processing and Bravia engine. Losing this features will not compromise the working of your phone but DRM key definetly will compromise the warranty and if you lose them you will cannot Relock Bootloader anymore. Unlock Bootloader is needed if you want flash custom kernels like DooMlord kernel with recovery. So is recommended to Root first your phone and then Backup your TA and DRM keys so in the case you will want go back to Stock or go via Warranty you have just to Flash Stock FTF and then Relock Bootloader. But like I already said, there is no root for locked bootloader at the moment, and this is what OP was asking but he was just challenge me with Root for Unlocked Bootladers.

[Q] Unlocking?

I'm trying to figure out exactly what you lose when you unlock Z3(C).
So far I've discovered that:
- Sony has a webpage that allows you to unlock your device
- Unlocking your device will void your warranty
- Unlocking is the only known way to get root (at least right now)
- Unlocking your device will kill the "TA partition" that contains DRM keys
- Loss of the aforementioned DRM keys will cause some stuff to stop working
I found a huge thread on backing up TA partition for older xperia devices, but no good information RE: what exactly you lose if you wipe out the DRM keys by unlocking.
Do any of you know definitively: what the DRM keys are for and what you lose?
As an aside - it looks like backing up TA partition is only possible before you unlock bootloader and if you've rooted your phone (so probably not possible on Z3C until someone finds a working exploit to get root with a locked bootloader).
Thanks in advance for any insights.
I don't think there is a definitive place which says exactly what you lose by unlocking the boot loader but judging by what people having been saying after unlocking the Z3C and other Xperia phones on 4.4 it seems like the answer is nothing. Nothing is lost on the software side at all.
On the z1c I neglected to back up the TA partition. And apparently lost native mirror cast and some camera features when I rolled the device back to stock.
Back up your TA partition before unlocking BL... If not for the I'm tact features turn for your warranty!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
Those that have rushed into unlocking the BL without backing up the TA partition risk voiding warranty I'm afraid.

Problem is, you need root to use those backup tools... So we would need a temp root exploit to backup before unlocking. But from what I've read so far, it doesn't seem like you lose that much, if anything.
I am also curious about this as I need root access but would like to preserve the warranty. Somebody else has also started a thread with what breaks with unlocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2890936

Most important consideration is your warranty such if your happy to lost it then unlock your BL.

It's not that definitive that you will lose warranty. Sony says it may void your warranty. Known issues with the specific model or batch, or other hardware problems that could not be caused by flashing custom ROMs/kernels will most likely still be covered.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sony...oader-unlock-tool-voids-your-warranty_id32972
I myself have sent in my Xperia T twice since unlocking the bootloader and on both occassions it was covered by the warranty.
Mind you, I did relock the bootloader and flash a stock FTF before doing that.
Flashtool has a function to relock the bootloader
http://www.digitalinternals.com/mobile/keeping-warranty-intact-sony-xperia-unlocked-phones/264/
I don't know if this works on our phone already, maybe someone who has already unlocked would like to try?

[Q] Unlocking/Re-locking Bootloader

I used to own an Xperai Sola. Before unlocking the bootloader I didn't know that I had to backup the DRM keys so that I can get back the "Bravia Engine" and "Download music Info option for Walkman" after the bootloader was unlocked. The information that we can backup our DRM keys came 6 months after I unlocked my bootloader.
These are my questions:
On Moto G 2nd gen do we need to backup something similar like the DRM keys of Xperia Sola?
What function do we lose when we unlock the bootloader other than Warranty? Does OS/Android update still work?
Does re-locking bootloader takes the phone back to its previous unlocked state?

@vinaybaboo
@bhavin192
2. You can update phone after unlocking bl if you don't make changes to OS i.e. Xposed etc.
If you update even you have made changes to OS your phone will go into Bootloop
3. Yes Re locking and flashing stock firmware takes it to locked state
@NWKENT can answer this Questions more clearly
I´m also with similar doubts. I came from Samsung-way of unlocking bootloader.
Just to ensure if get it right, If I just put root on device, I still be able to update original rom from Motorola ?
It´s a pity we can change anything with xposed (in order to keep upgradable), bcos it´s small things we get used to, and we miss on stock roms...
Thanks,

I guess if you wipe data and unnistall xposed and then flash stock recovery, you will be able to flash via OTA. No need to unroot

1. No you don't need any DRM keys
2. U lose nothing rather than your warranty. Ota works if you don't install custom recovery and change the kernel
3. The new locked state is different than the OEM locked one

Falcon G, thanks a lot for replying.
If the new locked state is different than the OEM locked one, then if a user wants to unlock the phone a second time, does he follow the same method he used to unlock the first time?
So, once the phone has been unlocked it is not possible to lock the phone to back to its OEM locked state?

Intact DRM Keys?

Hey all,
I just bought a used Z3+ and was wondering if someone could look at the following screenshot and tell me if my DRM keys are 100% intact and my bootloader has never been unlocked. I'm having a hard time figuring it out because after the first three, all other screenshots I've found have more [Key Ok] [Active] things than mine does. but, they are also for other phones. I'm used to phones without DRM, so I want to make sure I've got everything as intended. Can anyone compare to their Z3+ who may have never unlocked it and see what they think?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
i am 100% sure your DRM key is working
Right now z3+ don't has ROOT without unlock Boot loader
That mean it can't backup TA partition and can't restore DRM key
So this phone NEVER unlock Boot loader.

Got unlocked bootloader without possible root (5.0.2 28.0.A.8.266 firmware E6533 (z3+ Dual)). Used flashtool before unlock and saved S1 Dump in Advanced menu. Is it possible to get DRM keys from S1 Dump and restore bootloader lock?
Or my DRM keys now lost... ?
